    This Free Online Guitar Lesson is La Grange with ZZ Top.
    ZZ Top and Billy Gibbons were huge influences on me. I discovered them when "Rio Grande Mud" came out and I was just starting to play guitar in 1970.
    I got to see them support that record at a concert in Albuquerque New Mexico. It was just the band and their Marshall stacks, which, if I remember correctly were renamed "Rio Grande" amps, and outfitted with steer horns.

    THIS guy is THE MAN! I played bass guitar, professionally, in Austin, for over twenty-five years. In my retirement, I've bought a guitar and drum set, and set up a front room recording studio, just for the fun of it. Nobody on You Tube comes close to Tim when it comes to showing you how to play the classic Rock and Roll/Blues guitar hits I grew up with and played bass guitar on, in my band. You can't do better than learn from this guy. My recorded version of La Grange has my friends saying, "Get out, that's not you. You lifted that off the original and then overlayed your own stuff." Nope! Thanks, Tim!

    My ears were wide open at the time this song was released in 1973. I remember the FM DJ out of Cleveland waxing rhapsodic about BG's playing. At that time I was only imagining I was playing guitar. Lots of air guitar and imagination is what I'm saying. It was a short two years later when I got my first Fender Musicmaster and amp combo for Christmas. I can still remember that smell of the warm tube amp mixed with pine needles!

    I used to play and was getting my picking and fretting down as well as hammer ons and pull offs. My speed was greater than my knowledge of notes and chords. This is a song I loved since it came out but I could never sound Billy's songs out. Now thirty five years after I had to quit playing I finally see his mind and can maybe start to play ZZ Top. Thank you for doing that for me. I love the way you teach.

    I grew a beard when I watched this

    • @peterpedersen1641
      @peterpedersen1641 3 года назад

      Funny, As you can see, I have a beard.. Back in 1984 I was building the North Dallas Tollway I am a contractor/guitar player. So the money is from Pouring Concrete 24/7. Back then it was 12 inch beard and a baseball hat. One day a white Caddac pulls up by where I was yelling at a bunch of my guys. I look over and it's the kind Reverend, Billy Gibbons. At that time, he didn't wear that cap he does now. A baseball hat, long beard, just like mine. Somebody says, Hey ZZ Top! I walked over and he says to me, "Hey Brother" Are we sons of different mothers?" We had a short conversation, but he was impressed with our building the elevated highway, etc. Then said, Go to the bar Poor Davids, which is near Dallas. Bring the guys. Well, he wasn't there, but the bar keep said, all your drinking is on The Reverend! So, that weekend, I figured out how to play a bunch of ZZ Top tunes. Pretty easy actually. So now, 30 some years later. Watching Tim show how to play it, blows me away. Back then, no internet, no video lessons, you had to put the record on, play a minute back and forth. Figure the fingering. Etc.. You know the drill if you are over 40.. LOL Rev Billy has so much talent that even when he was in his early 20s jamming around Texas, he was quickly known as the Top of the Top in Jammin Texas Blues playing. I also met Stevie and Jimmy Lee Vaugn at Poor Davids. Saw him many times there. Sold me on learning Texas Blues. Anyway, beards are good. I have had mine since I was 17 years old. Now 65, the wife loves it... Enjoy.

    One of the most idiosyncratic solos ever , to the point nobody, probably even Billy G. hasn't re-created the studio version the same since lol

    Thank you Tim. I have been playing it just like you show for years. Out of all the bands I saw covering this song. No one plays the intro part correct. Finally someone gets it.. Awesome playing.. Love your videos.. Keep up the great work my friend..

      Of course even Tim is using the wrong guitar - La Grange intro was 1955 stop tail Stratocaster!!!! (and he is obviously not playing the lead close to accurately) 🎸🎸🎸🎸

    I just bought Tim's teaching package, available through his website. It is extensive, inspirational, and his teaching style is accessible and natural. It's fucking brilliant. Tim Pierce literally rocks (in numerous styles) the shit out of online teaching courses. I've already cut my third finger open trying Hendrix style unison bends, but I love pulling those bends over this tune!

    I just stumbled across Mr. Pierce's video and I'm loving how without a doubt he could play it note for note but decided to add his own "flare" not showing off and destroying the song like allot tend to do. Classy Man, very well rounded and now I'm a subscriber..✌️

    One of the funnest songs to play live. I was in a band that played a gig back when I was like 20 in Morris, MN (or somewhere up there) in a venue that looked like that place in the Blues Brothers--fence in front off the stage and everything. They had us play play "Roadhouse Blues" like 5 times and I got so tired of playing it I just started the riff for "La Grange"...we ended up being demanded to play that more times also. Very weird gig. Love playing that song though.
