*INNER WORK ESSENTIALS - TEACHING INTENTIONS & STATEMENT OF DIRECTION*
    1) Provide the student with an informed and representative overview of multiple complementary therapeutic modalities to support their self-healing process; with special encouragement placed upon the auto-therapeutic application of holistic healing modalities for particular problems at particular stages in their journey.
    2) Nourish the intellectual and spiritual maturation of the student by familiarising them with the most exciting, challenging and credible concepts in developmental psychology, consciousness studies and transpersonal metaphysics; with central emphasis being placed upon comparative analysis of multiple complex theories.
    3) Encourage an empowered and more authentic sense of individual self-expression as a combined outcome of the two previous intentions, plus the application of holistic lifestyle principles, self-educational practises, and foundational healthy habits.
*EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES (what you'll get from these videos)*
*On completion of this series, the student should expect to be:*
    1) Auto-therapeutic. The student will feel generally competent in their ability to select and self-administer the most suitable therapeutic modality on a full-spectrum basis: ranging from the somatic resolution of central childhood wounds to the everyday self-regulation of symptomatic stress responses such as anxiety and addiction.
    2) Closer towards baseline integral consciousness (Wilber). Through their combined efforts of rigorous self-inquiry and critical engagement with recommended reading material, the student will have significantly developed their intellectual and spiritual maturity to a noticeable degree, in likely correlation with their depth of engagement.
    3) Holistically Empowered. The student will enjoy a meaningful expansion of their physical, emotional, sexual, and creative expression as a result of their healing and expansion work. In short, they will be healthier, happier and feel more complete.
    4) Self-educational. The student will have felt organically inspired to move beyond free video content and create a self-structured learning arc which takes maximum advantage of at least several dozen inner working books mentioned within the course. The student will consequently enjoy lifelong learning habits including: critical research skills, long-term focus, and the ability to know when to stop studying.

I was raised in a matriarchal house where my Mother wore the pants so to speak. She was the screaming, violent, abusive one that beat us regularly. My Father was a relative wimp but also stubborn and self absorbed. When I go inside, I hear my Mothers female voice saying those "toxic" masculine things; you are useless, inferior, stupid, etc. I also chose (bossy) partners who were ultimately abusive and mimicked her behavior. Funny that they all used the feminist argument to maintain the gaslighting. Now that I am doing the work I'm not sure what I understand as masculine or feminine. Thank you Jordan I am working systematically through your material and gaining a huge amount of benefit.

I also have that tendency of rigidly holding my position sometimes. I feel it stems from fear of being wrong. Thanks for sharing this nuanced and integral perspective; it's what we required for healing. 🙏

Nuanced and integral would be my indie band name, for sure hahah
More seriously, yeah - integrating ‘certainty’ without becoming rigid is a lifelong awareness. Thank you for sharing as always.

Sometimes I feel like we're babies that cry the loudest when the air is coming into our lungs for the first time, at the moment of birth. We just need to acclimate. Much like the pendulum idea, right? At the moment, there's too much exaggeration in the reactions as the zeitgeist is being seen as an evil force to swallow us, instead of just something we need to move past, an old way of being that's become unfruitful and has diminishing values.
Like you said, the lazy language, it's killing us quite literally. This is something I've always kept on repeating to my students, especially teenagers who tend to become very aggressive when they need to name and communicate their discomforts but don't know how. We better learn how to outgrow it before we become a schizophrenic collective body. Sadly our maladaptive behaviors are very close to that.
I, for one, have learned the hard way to reframe my relationship with the masculine principle. Still ongoing. I have been encountering the various "spectrums of masculinity" and every time I find something in them to reflect a piece of me inside I do the best I can to dissect, learn from it. I'm thankful I didn't need to keep repeating much of the worst feminine-masculine dynamics, just enough... D :

I try not to put myself in opposition towards too many ideas or beliefs... but I am ABSOLUTELY with you on TEAM ANTI-LAZY-LANGUAGE!
We will keep getting better, and you're right there's a lot of reframing and reflection required. It's always great to hear that these ideas mean so much to you too, Fran.

@@jordanthornton Great! When are we gonna have t-shirts made? ><
My cousin keeps telling me that I destroyed her life the moment I made it clear to her that "see", "look" and "view" (roughly translated from Portuguese) are completely different things. lol
Language nuances change everything, no doubt. There's a disgustingly huge amount of studies that show in what ways the words we learn shape the way we view and interpret reality. Cancelation hype is there as proof of concept, 1984 made real. I dream of the day we'll normalize talking about it. : )

I'm not a feminist or a fan of toxic feminity for a simple reason: it seems to me that “fixing” the injustice starts with diagnosing the “root causes” that created the symptom in the first place. Most of the time, we are busy dealing with the manifestation and forget about the underlying; hence, making the result partial and reversible.
Like all prejudices, stigmas, and new “needs” created throughout humankind’s history, they are fueled by the twisted narratives around them:
    * The Agricultural Revolution: We are masters of the world; thus, have the right to exploit everything Gaia has to offer, including animals.
    * Racism: “Theologians argued that Africans descend from Ham, son of Noah, saddled by his father with a curse that his offspring would be slaves. Biologists argued that blacks are less intelligent than whites and their moral sense less developed. Doctors alleged that blacks live in filth and spread diseases - in other words, they are a source of pollution. These myths struck a chord in American culture, and in Western culture generally. They continued to exert their influence long after the conditions that created slavery had disappeared.” ~ Yuval Noah Harari.
    * Homophobia: In Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, homosexuality has been considered sinful - at least for the conservative groups.
    * Politics: “Most top predators of the planet are majestic creatures. Millions of years of domination have filled them with self-confidence. Sapiens by contrast is more like a banana-republic dictator. Having so recently been one of the underdogs of the savannah, we are full of fears and anxieties over our position, which makes us doubly cruel and dangerous. Many historical calamities, from deadly wars to ecological catastrophes, have resulted from this over-hasty jump.” ~ Yuval Noah Harari.
When we are fueled by fear, formal power and delusional control are the easiest coping mecanisms, I suppose. That’s how politics were born, in all likelihood!
Anyway, the last thing I want to be is a “party pooper”, but I can only speak the truth, unapologetically, no matter what! And today I’m saying to all of women and men in this fabulous community:
What if we could look into the mirror and honestly diagnose what created our patriarcal world? What if all the inherently good folks could pay the price of their freedom - rewiring their subconscious program - and become principled human beings. Thus, we wouldn’t have to fight a single day?
The good news is that this phenomenal channel creator is the living proof it's possible; painful and anything but straightforward but possible. The not that good news is that I use the word "toxic" very frequently to describe what I believe are antagonistic and destructive personalities...🙈

I just wonder…don’t you think that if we take a position of wanting to know how this imbalance came about we will ultimately find ourselves all the way back at the beginning of life? It’s a process of dividing and recombining, but why? There are so many things about human biology that make no sense to me. Why is childbirth painful and sometimes fatal? We get the big brain in a large cranium explanation, but other female animals suffer similarly. Dogs and cats don’t have overly large craniums to worry about and birth is no picnic for them either. When so much of what we experience as female/male imbalance is the result of such biological imperatives, I find myself asking why? Why does so much of life on Earth come in two types? What was the evolutionary impulse that made that necessary? Surely we could still combine the DNA of two individuals if they were both representatives of a being that came in only one type? I don’t get it. And this isn’t an appeal to some sort of Creator meme, but rather to biology, to science itself. It’s easy enough to see what happened, but why?
      Okay, now I’m just babbling…

I think that "traditional" gender expectations are so limiting on many levels. In my opinion, we should roll up our sleeves, learn who we really are, abandon all gender roll training, and encourage every individual to explore their own development outside of Masculine/Feminine predispositions. For healing purposes, however, the pain that men have caused must be addressed. It is not a blaming game, just fact. Gender expectations were created most likely to perpetuate an oppressive power dynamic amongst emotionally limited beings. We can do better now. We have the potential to transcend limiting traditions like gender rolls. Masculine/feminine is also a lazy language.

    • @jordanthornton
      @jordanthornton  2 года назад +6

I see what you’re saying and agree that certain forms of superficial gender expectations are outdated and ridiculous - but I have to respectfully disagree with your main point. There are pronounced differences between men and women in many areas of internal and external experience, and I believe that greater collaboration & harmony would exist between us as we learn to honour and maximise our biological programming & energetic makeups.
There is of course a whole world of nuances within this conversation - impossible to cover it all in a comment response, but I hope you feel my intentions and see them as unitive rather than divisive 🌲

@@jordanthornton I was so excited when I found this channel, because like you I have reserched so many of these books trying to connect what ringed true while staying sceptical, and I was curious how someone else would filter all the information.. Your content is awesome in that, but the rigidity in which you apply feminine and masculine principles to actual women and men is clouding your findings for me. These are just concepts. There is no nuance when you say we should maximize our gender expressions. Everyone's individuated self would be of different taste and shade on the spectrum. It's not just this video, but others, where you depict women like flow driven undiscerning creatures, who make real life decisions based on tarot youtube videos and think they are all reincarnated Cleopatras. You may very well have an image of some unhealthy woman you know in your mind, don't let yourself be biased this way.

    • @jordanthornton
      @jordanthornton  2 года назад +2

@@johana_m People who have researched highly like yourself can move beyond definitive categories in a way that doesn’t disregard the foundational binaries, but it’s also important to highlight the ‘basics’ which lack the nuance you’re after.
I throughly enjoy working with a variety of men and women on their expression, but these private conversations naturally look very different from public RUclips videos which go out to a wide audience. I can’t assume baselines or rapidly move beyond them in a single video because it’s often hard to follow or confusing.
You get feedback of being mixed and muddy. I wish it were different, but you can appreciate how hard this communication challenge might be.
      Wishing you well, Johana.

No such thing as toxic masculinity plenty of gay men show their emotions to suggest toxic masculinity exist is to erase gay men as well if your a Jungian you would know of male feelers and male intuitive feelers
