Well, at least with TES and Fallout, they cannot mess up the fact that those franchises have charm that's already been established.
Starfield is a new IP, which they had to come up with and create things that would make it appealing and they failed at making something unique.
But TES and Fallout already have so much identity, it'll be hard to mess up, which is why even a mediocre Fallout or TES game, is still a good game for a lot of people.

The elder scrolls series has always been one of my favorites, but I have no hope for elder scrolls 6, don't even care at this point.
Bethesda isn't what they used to be, it's sad to come to this realization but it is the truth. Fallout 4 for all it's flaws was still a great game, and with mods it's tons of fun. To me it will probably be the last good game they will ever make.

I would take 30 giant fully developed planets vs 1000 barren rocks. They went for quantity over quality and it really hurts the experience. By reducing the scale of generic planets and focusing on the actual settled systems that matter (UC, Freestar, and Crimson Dawn) more time could have been spent in creating unique locations worth exploring.

Here is another shit flavoured gummy to chew on: when I inevitably got pissed at the shitty performance, sick of the Spy Kids tier writing of the main quest, or bored visiting the digital petting zoo on the otherwise pointless planets, I went on a fucking rampage in New Atlantis. Unfortunately when I later tried returning to Jemison, my bounty was around 500,000. The game became soft-locked because I could not even hail the UC Security ship without getting fucking ass blasted by everyone in the airspace. I had no previous save to go back to - luckily I could kill off all but one ship with console commands, which is not even possible on Xbox - you'd have to restart the game. No money, no way to do jail time. The bounty system is completely broken. Can't even play an evil character, except as otherwise scripted for you.

I got the cherry on top for ya... ready for this??
On console (brand new SeriesX)clicking on a favorited weapon does not unequip it. Meaning if you ever equip a weapon, ever, you have to physically go to the save screen, go to your inventory, unequip the weapon, and back all the way out to use unarmed combat. Then click on whatever weapon you're using for distance, weaken, close the distance, then back into your inventory screen and repeat. Tens of times in every single battle you ever fight.
Holding x to put up your weapon doesn't help..if you click RT it pulls your weapon back out. Not your fists.
Clicking an empty slot in your favorites does nothing. Doesn't even take away your weapon, so that doesn't help either.
Meaning.... the bouncer and gangster backgrounds are absolutely worthless. Unarmed is worthless. There's no practical way to even use the very thing I bought the game for. To make myself. I do it in all Bethesda, specifically fallout, games.
My father was a boxer, I was a locksmith, and I'm an entertainer. So the talking shit, unarmed, thief is right in my wheelhouse... but for this game it's virtually impossible to do.
And don't even get me started on the persuade 'system' (using that term VERY loosely lol)
Thank you for seriously being the one voice of reason during this launch..I will never again doubt the existence of astroturfing during game launches. Holy shit the amount of fawning over this dumpster fire...
Anyway, cheers. Great vid. Keep em coming 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿

    This Game is soooo bad.
    I wish it wasn't...
No Vats - No Gore - No diving - borked Stealth - No Weapon/Armor Repairing(Durability System) - No Building your own Ship/Equipment from Material you Mined/Gathered - No real End-Game Goals - No Transmog - No making your own Contraband - NPCs not dropping what they wear - Can't open Doors, defuse Mines, use Items... when in Scan Mode - Can't control jump height. NPCs can do that. A Charge up Meter is really needed on some Moons, or you fly off like a Rocket - Boost Packs are not really suitable ever/meaning that you need different kinds of Boosters for different Situations but also you need Resistances against Korrosion, Air, Radiation, Bio, and somewhat level conforming Laser, EMP, Bullet Resistance = you need 12+ Boost Packs - Crafting and Building Copy Paste from FO4 but with worse placement control - Awful Controls overall. The game works on GamePad but you need your whole Keyboard if you choose to play on the Keyboard. Make ready to rebind 50 Keys and ignore Conflicts - Very few and lackluster Feats - You should start with level one on each Skill - Skills need to be way more "Exotic". ATM they are mostly "more DMG, can Craft, can buy, can fly - Item Feats are mostly useless and are Copy Paste from FO4 - Skill progression is mostly forgettable and unimaginative - EXP from discovering, Hacking, building, crafting is nearly not existent - Item Notifications gone after 1.5sec = can't check Stats = open Inventory - Carry Capacity sucks - You can't mark individual Items to look/track for - You can't undo all tracking Items - Inventory Menu sucks! StarUI Mod needed = modding mandatory or wasting hours unnecessarily - Can't use Cure Object in Affliction Screen. Again StarUI Mandatory - Not showing "Weather(Corrosion/Radiation...)" Conditions on Planet before landing- Map is awful - Quests send you to places you can't reach - Lifeless Planets are useless - Copy pasted Bases/Caves... no sign of prcedurally generated Locations - Often looking to Scan "Natural Wonder" that I already Scanned because it's not identifyable from the Picture - Planet Map shows 100% scanned even if it's not because of "Costal Area" - Escort Quests that have you travel 1000m+ for low reward - You can't ban Useless Items from Scanner - Rare/Legendary/Epic Items cause 2sec Game Freeze when Equiped and changing to Scanner or cyceling through Weapons - Space Combat at least unskilled at early Levels is pure Stats Game and often undoable because 3v1 - No feeling of actually flying through Space - You still get Stuck and can not jump when on angled Ground as in FO4/Skyrim/Oblivion... - NPC Money should be infinite or at least increased by 4x - Items you pick up/have in Inventory show the worth they have when you buy them from a Merchant, but they should show what they are worth to you, when you sell them - NPC standing on Pilot Seat so only 3rd Person Space Flight or piloting through gap between NPCs Legs - Enemies/Animals on Planet stacked in a Heap, so you think you will fight 3, but it ends up being 12 or more all stacked into one tiny Spot and into each other - Melee Combat as bad as it was in any other Bethesda Game (look what modders did to Skyrims Combat Animations) - Reloading gets Canceled by running and jumping - Typical Bethesda Bullet-Sponge Enemies - Typical run around/jump over Obsacles and slowly chip away their Health - In Ship flight you need to be able to make custom Presets for "Full Power Weapons, Grav Drive, Engines, Shields..." and bind them to F1-F4 or any other Key you choose - Needs City/Outpost/Other Listing on Star-Map to find the Locations + placement of own nameable Markers - Needs Button to stop Quests from coming in. I get 5 new Quests when running around doing one Quest. I don't know how I got the Quests. I don't know who the Quests are from. I have no connection to them. - NPCs need to stop talking over each other. It just can't be too complicated to program in that only one Voice can be played at once. - Finding Quests is a Nightmare. They need to be Structured much better. Time when Quest received/Location of Quest Giver/Nearby Quests/Location of Quest/Radiant Quest... - Still can't go from Sneak to normal Mode whilst doing any other action / meaning Stealth play feels Crap. Sneak to someone with a Melee Weapon, hit them 1 time, wait for Animation to finish, press "Crouch" Key, wait for your Character to stand up, and engage in Comabt. 1995... 19 F*cking 95!!! - I have been playing the Game for 60 hours now and am Level 30 and still I find the same Fire Axe I found on Level 4 over and over 21 DMG - When on the Map Screen, there has to be a Warning that you can not travel at this moment - I am SEETHING because I activated a Mission but the Game decided to not show me that Mission at all, but two other Missions I do not want to do - I decided to do one of the Missions to see what happens... I now have FOUR Map markers. WTF! And I am not allowed to activate even two Missions - Buy Back Disabled as soon as you leave Shopping Window - Can't pay the debt from Dream Home Perk - Game does not tell you what Skills do until you unlock the Line. That means that you can't work to a specific Skill and know its effect - I managed to lock up the Menu by opening and closing it in quick succession. - Can't move after Loading-Screen, but the NPCs can - Crafting is a F*ing JOKE! You dump Skill points and Materials into upgrading but then you look at something like "You can now add a +5 Resistances Mod to Your Jump Pack". And that one cost me 2 Skill Points btw. No mention of that beforhand! - No Planet Wiki showing me what Planet I have been on and what I found on that Planet (Alien Species, "Geysers", Flora...) - No Crafting of Weapons, Armor, Drugs, that are not already in the Game to find - No Enhancement of Weapon/Armor Mods (Stuff like increase chance to poison Enemy by+5%, by "infusing Weapon with 500 Material X, next 5% cost you 1000, next 5% cost you 2000, next 5% cost you 4000... something to make Mining Stuff on Planets useful)- No Melee Weapon Mods - No Melee Weapon Differences in behavior - Can we have 8k+ Planet Pictures for our "Space Journey"? - Just three Slots for Character Itemization (Not promising for what Variety Mods will be able to offer) - Timescale is F*ed when on some Planets. Wait 1 hour(time-unit) passes a VERY long time. Like wait "24 hours" = wait 2400 hours. WHO the F thought this was a good idea?! - Hold Key for every second Option, but sitting down "just works"

17:50 Bethesda has always used procedural generation in their games, so it's nothing new to them.
They've always used it to make landscape, before hand-crafting content on top of it. And that goes back as far as TES: Arena.
The difference with Starfield is that they used it too much and because of the scope of the game, the hand-crafted content (which is the largest amount they've ever done), paled in comparison to the procedural content.

Amazing video. And i agree in all aspects. The first 40 hours were ok, but the more you play the more you notice how basic the systems are in comparison to Skyrim and fallout 4. They pick and chose all the best systems of them and instead of improving upon them, they downgraded everysingle one of them. Lack of enemies variety, lack of armor and weapons, barebone/pointless Outpost/settlement system, no crafting of armor, ammo or weapons, terrible loot system, terrible and pointless exploration, boring/no evil companions, 1000 planets with the same 3 humanoids, 10 aliens and 10 building/exploration points and i couild go on and on listing all the underdeveloped / downgraded systems.
the Only new system in starfield is the ship building, because the rest is just assets from Skyrim and fallout 4.
Mods can only improve so much. For mods to work the game has to have a proper base to build upon. And starfield has none.
What have they done in 8 years of development ? I will never pre order TES VI after Starfield

I don't share the optimism around anticipating effective overhauls via modding. Modders are players first and they have to be passionate about the game they're making mods for. With how underwhelming this game is, will there be enough modders passionate enough to to really make a dent? (And this presupposes that Starfield's problems are shallow enough that modding can fix them. If on the other hand it's problems are deeper then modding is moot.)

Here's an interesting info: The game seems to behave like the AIDA RAM bandwidth test/benchmark. The testing done by Gamers Nexus in co-op with Buildzoid from Totally Hardcore Overclocking shows that the game LOVES high speed RAM.
The tests showed that CPUs that are clearly below other CPU models in real-world performance end up getting MORE fps suspiciously because they used RAM with higher MHz.
An example would be DDR5 4400 vs 5600.
5600 has 27% more fps in the game despite being paired to what should have been a lower performing CPU as opposed to the rig that had a better CPU but 4400MHz RAM.
    And the main point?
The value 4400 is 27% less than 5600. Totally not a coincidence IMO.
This pattern actually continued throughout the testing with RTX 4090's and 7900 XTX's scoring the same fps margin with the best CPU and the same RAM speed.
It's obvious that the results would change if the RAM had higher speed being the bottleneck from what was shown. It seems that they made this game only optimized for ultra-high speed RAM or something. Sorry, Todd, but we all can't just go out and buy 7000~8000MHz DDR5 RAM just to play your game.

cant confirm the bad performance. My system has a R7 5800X3D, a RX6700XT, 32 GB RAM and an old M.2 SATA SSD. With optimized settings and a fps cap at 60 I get stable 60 fps in 1440p in nearly every area. FSR and Dynamic res activated. Even in New Atlantis the game mostly holds 60 fps. I used the recommended settings from Hardware unboxed as a basis. I had some micro stutters, but this problem solved a regedit file I downloaded from Nexus. it's part of a mod called "Performance Tweaks - 20% more fps" or something like that. Download the mod manually and unpack the archive. There is a folder with "CPU" in the folder name, open it and you'll find the registry file. Run it and Starfield's CPU priority will be set to "high" by default. No other mod needed. it completely eliminated all microstutters I had.

I remember crapping all over Fallout 4 for years without even playing it. But looking at this game, Fallout 4 is Citizen Kane compared to Starfield. I don't even need to play it to see how boring it looks on the surface. I don't wanna waste my time exploring boring empty spaces and sitting in loading screen.

Finally, someone who talk about the performances. Most reviews in youtubes played by someone that already at the top PC performances so they have no issues for performances. So its again Bethesda skip the optimizations aspects as usual. They done horribly with skyrim that re-released 2 times with 5 years apart. Fallout 4 have issues especially in city. Now Starfield while its not having gamebreaking & crash galore. It's still perform horrendously lol, they even request us to used NASA PC and still have loading screen with SSD. Tbh I lost any expectations of TES 6. With how many things they skipped (since I know they can but chose not to since modders will do free labor to fill their empty huge husk world as usual. It worked since Morrowind and pop at Skyrim/FO4. So they will do more in the future) in Starfield, I doubt they will add amazing things in TES6 except more skipped things. It would be slapping starfield CK to Skyrim just with no killer bugs. You love space explorations? Play No Man Sky. You love space story driven RPG? Play Outer Worlds. You want bethesda FPS? FO4 can give better performance (since its older game and gunplay really similar and easily replicated by mods in nexus) and actual open world that benefited much with SSD or many hardwares that actually can run RDR2 Ultra with no issues but done badly in Starfield.

Great review! I’ve refused to play the game but couldn’t help myself but watch small clips endless players would upload, as well as a few review videos people have uploaded so far, some positive reviews but the majority negative. I decided I was definitely going to buy it only after at least a year from the release date. I do admit I believe you’re spot on in regards to how this game will be made amazing by modders, although I have to disagree with your statement that Skyrim was made great by modders,-I believe Skyrim was amazing and already a truly great game as a base game before modding was even a thing for it, it’s just that modding made the game immortal. Let’s hope this game is redeemed by the modding community in time!

Recycled graphics, bad optimization, repetitive generic enemies, lame generic quests, generic factions, dull dialogues, irritating companions, worthless and pointless 'exploration' (hope they invent horses in distant future, instead of walking).
Pretentious yet mediocre game artificially trying to be bigger and more realistic, but failing at both.

calling it now, mods wont fix the game.
mods cant fix what is fundamentally bad writing, and bad quest making.
maybe a large overhaul mod like Enderal etc where good writers make something from the ground up, merely using CK2 as a RPG toolkit. But this game will live in the shadow of older BGS titles. Even Fallout 4 was a weak title but there's some writing to be enjoyed there. Starfield is bland and uninspired. Mods will not fix this game.
The old adage 'Garbage in = Garbage out' comes to mind.
also now that it seems necessary to badge yourself with hours and playtime, I've finished the game and all the factions too and a bunch of minor quests, about 60/65 hours all in.

It runs better than Fallout 4, Skyrim, Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Jedi survivor, and countless other games at launch. Could it use better performance? Sure, but it is one of the best performing open world RPGs at launch I have played in the last couple of years. Nintendo titles have it beat, and some Sony exclusives but it runs at a stable 60fps like 95% of the time on PC and never crashes (for me, obviously i dont deny people have had it crash), which I simply cant say for so many other games. I think people wre iust excited because we always want it to be better but if every game launched in this state the past several years it would have been a godsend compared to the way they did release.

Yeah. The game made me leave a planet to talk to a guy on another planet. Only for that guy to immediately take my money and tell me to go to another planet. I went to a planet to talk to one guy?? Nah. It looks good but that topic about planet traveling hits the nail on the head. It's like skyrim but a loading screen between every person you talk to.

Honestly everyones critique and recommendations for how things would be better ie... Less planets more crafted content etc etc..... Wouldnt help.... That game is fundimentally a failure. The world and its lore story and characters and overall art direction are about as boring and generic as you could possibly get. The foundation itself isnt worth the time so nothing could save it imo. BGS is dying folks and it is heartbreaking especially for any hope of ES6 being good.
