  • In this lecture, I define personality from multiple angles, historical, constructivist, psychoanalytic, behavioral and neuropsychological. Personality is a way of looking at the world, and a characteristic mode of behaving. It's both stable and adaptively dynamic.

I'm 27, married with a 10 month old son, and live in Georgia.
I'd never be able to have this kind of exposure to this quality of education if you hadn't done this. You're one of the finest professors I've ever heard. World class and I'm watching a class for free.
    Thank you.

Hi Rare, I have encountered the concepts JBP uses in other forms, so, intellectually I have no need to get fully on the bandwagon with him, I learn and contribute more by comparing those ideas and allowing them to conflict, etc. Socially I am pretty fully on the bandwagon with him. *However*, more importantly, what I said is a joke from "The Life Of Brian", I would very much suggest it, I don't think anyone who has seen it could say its not a very important movie.

@@sdct27 It definitely is! Not just because of how learning will help you grow as a person and succeed in multiple aspects of your life, but because what you choose to do with your free time is priceless. It could be watching silly, pointless videos, hiking, art, whatever. I always tell everyone that their time is worth worlds more than being able to afford anything beyond the basic necessities, food, car, roof over your head. Everything else is all superficial and it will not be there in your last days, when all you have left is your memories. At the end of the day, living your life how you choose, so long as you aren't negatively impacting another's life, is the most important thing and should be valued above work. I encourage everyone to be a minimalist, unless they're making a killing doing what they love. It is far better to love what you do and have next to nothing than to hate what you do and have everything. Life is short, spend it how you want, doing what you want, wherever you want.

With you sharing your lectures online, you allow me to grow in a manner that would be impossible to achieve on my own. I've gotten your book and I can't find space to read it nowadays because I feel like I need to give it some more meaning rather than reading it on the bus but I WILL read it. I will read it and re read and then i will buy your next book. Because even those few chapters i managed to read during summer and the few lectures I've seen have already changed my view on life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Mr. Peterson. I hope you feel better and wish you and your family all the best. Lots of love from Poland ❤️

Jordan something about your lectures just helps solidify knowledge into real life. Sometimes in the day I'll find myself thinking something like "oh he's just low on agreeableness, nothing to worry about".
Sometimes I sit and think a lot about statistics, why people are all so different, what it would be like to live life through someone else's consciousness, brain structure, hormone and personality. Really helps me wake up. Great job.

I've also noticed I learn things differently in a sense. I make some connections very fast and others very slow. The ones I make slowly, I think, are because I need more in dept info and understanding a bit beyond the layed out concept or maybe digging into the basics of said concept to understand that layed out concept. While others around me don't need that. And the teachers are a little baffled by my basic questions sometimes and don't see where my block is or what _more_ they need to say to help me get it.
But I've come to embrace the way I in some aspects learn and think differently, I think if I embrace it and cater to it it'll become usefull. It's my way of metabolizing knowledge, so why surpress it? So far it's pushe me to be braver to ask seemingly stupid questions, be more precise in my questions and also understand how others think better, so I can get what I need out of them and their knowledge.

The amount of life changing stuff this guy says just in passing as "by the way" knowledge floors me no matter how many of his videos I watch.
The bit about how reading something repeatedly doesn't help much with memory recall and that how you do that is practice reading, closing the book, and then summarizing from memory. That's amazing and immediately useful knowledge. In fact the whole reason I'm writing this comment is for the sake of summarizing that point so that I can remember it later. Beautiful.

Zirkzank Xyphrolenmir The fact that you can't just study in your free time then sign up to a university for just assessment, shows a massive flaw in universities. Why do you need to attend their lectures and tutorials if you can do it on you own and learn from books or online? Because it's all about money, and they wouldn't make much if people had the choice to self study and be assessed at a predetermined date.

This platform reaches across so many different people types. And I'm extremely poor. I'd never get such an education. So thank you so much. I was already adept with my critical thinking ability. But I feel like I consider things much different now and think about them much deeper. Or sometimes think quickly and respond much better since I've learned so much about myself. I've had a very hard and complex life. I'm now a father and have a good job, house, wife, and I'm legitimately happy. Being able to learn about myself and understand people and how we work has been huge in my life, it's effected everything positively.

There is a whisper of all things true coming through your words and I feel whatever that is, wakes up in me; and I come home to myself. Thank you Dr. Peterson

If, I had a professor like Dr. Peterson in my life... I would never be late. Would have reached his every class at least 30 minutes earlier to grab the best seat, even if the world was falling apart on the other side.

You wouldn't. Otherwise you'd do that already right now for your current professor.

Wow, well, I have been watching many of Jordon's videos and podcasts in recent weeks, and, now I have 'attended this lecture' I feel enthused to attend the whole course, even if it is just from home, mostly in my armchair, and I'm way to old to be an actual 'student' !
This man is of outstanding intellect, insight and integrity. I feels like an honour to attend to his work.
