I am almost 50 and feel a longing for going back to school. there is nothing like a teacher that imparts with skill a true life passion. It is mesmerizing and humbling at the same time. You are also very lucky to have a professor of such caliber. I am impressed. UofT is still a great school. Best of luck Tina!
Just know there are average Joes like me (typical American from NC) that would absolutely love to swap places with you to be in this man's lecture(s). Enjoy semester and take advantage of learning from this man!
I've been to university lectures for 7 years. Never seen a single instance that the students would applaud the lecturer in the end of the class. This just shows how exceptional this guy is.
The way he can just glide into subtopics so easily and then bring you back to the main one is just so amazing, it's like listening to his actual thought process when he speaks.
This is exactly why I am so engaged in his lectures and interviews. Is thought process is an open book. He doesn’t assume to know anything really but he orally walks you through his internal rational for both (or many) sides of whatever he is considering. To me it’s like verbal poetry and, at times, just as moving.
It's exactly how I see his lectures. Another funny characteristic about his thinking process is that as I listen to him speak, he often leads me to think about something before he talks about it. Also, while I'm thinking about it I always wonder if he will address it, and he always does a moment later!
2 years ago, I stumbled upon this wonderful man. I was in a dark, self-hating place in my life. Now, I've completed my first year of college and made the deans list! I wholeheartedly give Dr. Peterson full credit for helping me when I couldn't help myself! Thank you for essentially saving my life....
You were a good strong guy from the begining, thats why you needed just a little dose of inspiration. Bad people do not change eventhough inspiration is in front of them. Give yourself the credit. (Thats what JP would say to you believe me)
The entire movie is all about stereotypes that make no sense. The lions are 'kings' namely the FEMALES have a female bond when a male comes and defeats another male, he gets to service the females who are actually a feminist cooperative. The male kills all the babies, get the females pregnant and so long as he can fight off other males, all is well. The females do nearly all the hunting and care while males goof off in between fighting each other. All the animals from top to bottom hate and fear lions. Lions are 'terrorists' and 'vandals' but the vultures and hyenas like the lions who leave a bloody mess which doesn't interest the lions so the others get a feast when the lions eat.
Emsnews Supkis Dr. Peterson is not analyzing the validity of the movie, or it's realism. He is using a Jungian approach in an attempt to explain tropes and archetypes in stories and mythologies.
I was feeling horribly depressed tonight, and I can't lie when I say that I was thinking some horrible thoughts and was tempted to fall back into some bad habits. I started listening to this video while messing with my guitar and I started to feel a lot better. Thank you, JP.
Isnt it wonderful how any one of his many lectures are efficacious in lifting one out of the many descents caused by everyday life? Hope you are still maintaining, friend.
I can safely say that I have learned more from Petersons free lectures in 2 months than I have from my degree so far in Psychological Science that I've been doing for 2 years.
BT Audio Productions - I believe you. When I first heard him talk, I immediately went to view his lectures. Takes a lot to impress me. But I consider it extremely fortunate that he was subjected to and attacked by “the thought police”. He stood his ground and we all now have the personal ability to learn from such a great thinker, a great debater and one who can most certainly make you think about one’s own life. Been a long time since someone like him has burst onto the scene.
Augass - Perhaps this is the only lecture you’ve heard by Dr. Peterson. Because if you have seen many, many of his lectures, you’d be quite aware of this man’s genius mind and his ability to unpack and dissect psychological subject matters and teach those complex issues.
alban gjilani in my experience, when people don’t understand something, they tend to write it off as gobbledigook and nonsense. But people seem to relate quite a bit to what Jordan is saying so i’m not so sure you’re right there. He also doesn’t have any shortage of haters, so i don’t see how you could say that he doing something wrong as a result of too many people liking him
Anyone else have this problem after listening to hours of Dr Peterson's lectures?....you're super ego doesn't sound like you anymore, it sounds like Dr Peterson.
I love the way Jordan takes these personality topics and applies it to things like the Lion King / Pinocchio. Other profs get trapped in the big words and ideas but they don't land like Jordan. He makes the idea relatable.
How many times have you seen a professor give a lecture and at the end of the lecture receive an applause from the class? This man truly is something special
I graduated in Biology and always detested psychology. Jordan is such a good teacher he makes me want to go back and change my major. Universities need more professors like this. Great teacher

Rajiv Malhotra on the "U-Turn" Theory: "Westerners appropriate Indic ideas through a process called the U-Turn. In its basic form the U-Turn Theory states that a member of the dominant Western culture first whole-heartedly learns the Indic tradition. He or she, for a variety of reasons, then repackages it and projects the knowledge gained from India from within his/her own culture. The next thing you know is that he/she claims these ideas were always an integral part of Western culture. Some, but not all, also start demonizing the source Indic traditions using a lot of pretexts, such as calling them "world negating" or accusing them of "human rights" abuses." "As an example, Malhotra examined on how Jung appropriated much from Indic thought - including key ideas of collective unconscious, archetypes, and synchronicity. Jung met Sanchi and visited the Ramakrishna Order in Calcutta, from the ideas of whom he built the ideas of the Collective Unconscious, but did the classical U-Turn from Indic thought and later claimed these thoughts as his own original ones. In all, Malhotra has done 50+ case studies of such U-Turns, and each has its own story as to why and how it was done. U-Turns have played an important role in shaping Western ideas, literature and popular culture; yet they are typically ignored in discussions on the history of ideas. The U-Turn Theory also explains that many Indians internalize the Western adaptations of Indian culture and re-import them into India: For instance, Tantric healing is more fashionable as "energy healing" or as reiki; yoga's return to India's Westernized middle class owes a lot to the West's adoption of it; and Western research on cognitive science and neuroscience includes yogis who are mere "subjects." In short: He never gave credit to where his "groundbreaking" findings came from.
Mister Peterson, if you ever get to read my comment, I just want to thank you for being such a bright light in this dark times of chaos. You and your lectures had opened my eyes to a reality I was reluctant to acknowledge. Thank you very much, you are inspiring a whole generation.
Like the Lion King, the majority of Disney animated classics used to be about heroic adventure and rebirth. But more recently, their messaging is far more chaotic and sometimes dangerous. Before I discovered Dr. Peterson, I felt a tinge of discomfort when I heard the lyrics to Frozened's "Let it go" sung by Elsa, especially the words, "Let the storm rage on! The cold never bothered me anyway." They just seemed so dangerous to me at the time though I didn't specifically know why. Now, with a little bit of knowledge shown to me by Dr Peterson, it's obvious how that song gave permission for lack of responsibility, unbridled rage, self destruction, and nihilism. Now of course, people will say that Love eventually triumphed in the end, though in a confusing none archetypal way, and that "Love saves all" was the lesson. However, considering how memorable Disney songs tend to be, I suspect most will remember Elsa's happy call to rage and nihilism first and remember "Love saves all" a distant second. Also no character in Frozened went through any sort of heroic rebirth journey (heck, even the harsh climb up the peak was parodied by some conveniently found stairs). Worst of all Elsa's rage was never really addressed. I believe the writers thought that Elsa accepting herself and learning to control her powers because of the love she felt for her sister could count as a rebirth. But that rebirth seemed unearned because of the lack of the heroic journey. There was no burning off of the wrong self to achieve the new self, in fact, Elsa reveled in her rage and freedom from responsibility and was presented the most beautifully on her descent into chaos. In fact, she never really ascended out of it. Instead of a heroic rebirth, she had a narcissistic nihilistic, "perfect the way you are" one. Thus, on the whole, the real message was less "Love saves all" or even "Let it go" to more like "You're perfect the way you are, you don't need to take on responsibility, and God help those that piss you off."
I have no idea what Peterson's objections to Frozen are, but he does sometimes describe order as a masculine characteristic, and chaos as feminine. And he often speaks of the necessity of both. Without some order, you can't get basic things done, and without some chaos, you can't move forward out of your comfort zone. This of course incenses Feminists, who hear chaos associated with feminine and can't hold off their rage long enough to hear the rest of the explanation, so they dismiss him as misogynist.
@@BrightBlueJim He said that the problem with Frozen is that it's purely ideological and not at all archetypal. There's no real life lessons to take from it except the specific ideology of the writers. Most Disney classics are old stories retold in a much more approachable and pleasing format, but the bottom line and underlying themes stay very much the same. There's always a lot of mystique, symbolism, parallels to draw with yourself, and things to take from it no matter who you are or where you're from. Frozen doesn't quite have that going for it.
Yup. No more "Be a man" from Mulan. It's all "Let it go" and it is feminist propaganda. See, at least in Mulan, the story was such that it didn't matter if you were a man or a woman, you could be courageous and heroic. That society considered men to be more courageous and heroic was not necessarily wrong, but it also happened to imply that women were only supposed to be beautiful and set in their ways. I mean, Mulan did have a tinge of ideology attached to it (and maybe it even was one of the first of Disney's animations to start pushing this sort of thing) but it was nowhere near the level of ideological propaganda compared to Frozen.
Watching Frozen I strongly felt the two sisters to be ONE. A near- schizophrenic person, that can not integrate her ice-cold type of rationality and her burning need for love and acceptance. - where is the video/podcast/text by JBP where he gives his take on Frozen?
Turning 65 and I am soooooo excited about listening to Petersons REALISTIC perspective....I still want to grow and know ho to live in a way that MATTERS! Getting closer to my end in this body makes me EXCITED for the rest of my life here and beyond!
I wholeheartedly thank Dr. Jordan Peterson for his online lectures. How precious wisdom is he giving for free!! Thank you Dr. Jordan Peterson. God bless you.
I just want to thank Jordan Peterson for teaching me to THINK logically and in a positive practical way. I quit drugs and cigarettes after listening to him and also started the Keto diet and started weight lifting 6 days a week and cardio twice a week. My life has improved dramatically since, Thank You Dr. Peterson.
I never went to university, I’m a tradesman, I now own my own business, but I would’ve gone to his classes. If I can learn something from just listening to him talk while I’m melting metal together then he’s a damn good teacher. I wish people wouldn’t mis categorize him so much.
A while back I made the statement that he is probably the most misunderstood person in the world. It’s like some people are looking for a reason to criticize instead of listening. They seem able to misunderstand even the smallest idea that he puts out. Strange to witness.
Unfortunately, most classes are lectured in such a boring way one would even begin to detest the subject they originally chose. JP is an exceptional lecturer. His main goal is to educate. It shows in everything he does
Prof Peterson has some great insight on the human mind. He is one of the few people I know that has explained what post traumatic stress is about, understanding what triggers it goes along way into resolving the problem. Its amazing how much he has got out of this simple story. It just shows how his mind thinks. Prof Peterson is one of the few people I like to listen to as what he says isn't BS. If you can walk away from a talk and actually come away with knowledge then you know you've listened to someone who knows what their are talking about.
Sun or sunrise represents a beginning of consciousness or moving towards the higher state of consciousness. 16:13 Hierarchy - 1. The notion is is that at the top of the pyramid there's something that actually doesn't belong in the pyramid it's something that goes up above the pyramid and can see everything you're gonna be in a lot of pyramids in your life dominance hierarchies and different states and families and all of that and they'll arrange themselves into a hierarchy and there'll be something at the top and the top is the thing that can do well across hierarchies so it's not stuck in any one pyramid it and it's partly associated with vision and the ability to see a long long distance also to see what you don't want to see and to report that back to the king 2. Our eye and your capacity to pay attention especially to what you don't want to pay attention to is the thing that continually updates that model In The Freudian perspective Of the Psyche it's animalistic and full of of implicit drives sexual and aggressive in particular as far as Freud was concerned and that's because those two drives say unlike thirst or hunger are much more difficult to integrate into proper social being and tend to be excluded and left unconscious, we should integrate these three things to the ego 1.Agressiveness 2.Sexual Drives 3. Anxiety 19:22 -Top Of Hierarchy - 1. standing up straight and tall and that means that being high in serotonin because serotonin governs posterior flexion and you are dominant and near the top of hierarchies you tend to expand so that you look bigger than then you could if you shrunk down and so if you're low dominant person you wander around in low dominant postures so that you look small and weak and you don't pose a threat to anybody but if you're at the top you expand yourself so that you can command the space. 2. When You Integrate Your Dark Side In Your Personality You will look though and then you can express full range of emotions and be capable of kindness and also of cruelty. 21:50 Potential - 1.potential is partly what you could be if you interacted with the world in a manner that would gain you the most information right because you build yourself out of the information in the piagetian sense. 2.If you take yourself and you put yourself in a new environment new genes turn on in your nervous system they encode for new proteins and so you're full of biological Potential that won't be realized unless you move yourself around in the world in two different challenging circumstances and that'll turn on different circuits so it's not merely that you're incorporating information from the outside world in the constructivist sense it's that by exposing yourself to different environments you put different physiological demands on yourself all the way down to the genetic level and that manifests new elements of you. 3. If You want to be the king you need to Integrate the tradition and rescue your father from the underworld. 27:40 - ### 1. The way to full maturity is to find what you lost as a child and regain it . You have to regain your capacity once you're disciplined and you know how to do something you have to regain your capacity for play and sort of for wide-eyed wonder and that's maybe the childlike part of your spirit.and the reintegration of that childlike part with the adult grown-up part Revival the adult grown-up part and allows the child to manifest itself in a disciplined way in the world. 28:27 - You Should Be someone who's a master at playing a game and also who's also a master at improving how to play that game at the same time. 30:44 - the king always has an evil brother and also the hero always has an adversary and the reason for that is the king always has an evil brother and that means that the state always has a tyrannical element and the tyrannical element exists for two reasons 1. one is the state deteriorate of its own accord and that's an entropy observation what that means is that the state is a construction of the past right but the present isn't the same as the past and to the degree that the past is mismatched with the demands of the present then it's then it's then it's a tyrannical it's malfunctioning and so it's it's a continual problem with the state it's always two steps behind the environment and so then that means that the awareness of living people has to update the state. 33:12 - When a flood comes into your life, you might be destroyed because you might not have build your defenses strongly enough and may have a willful blindness and also might be cause of the harm in your life.Where the flood comes and you're surrounded by chaos and you'll look into it you'll think I knew this was coming I knew I wasn't paying attention I knew I hadn't sorted things out and the consequences of that will have cascaded and wiped you out and then you're in real trouble because not only did you get wiped out but you also know it's your fault and that is not a good thing that makes you bitter and resentful and murderous. 33:47- The Evil adversary of the state or the people are generally Hyper Intelligent rational the problem with irrationality with rationality is that it tends to fall in love with its own product and so then it comes up with a theory that makes that a totality and then it won't let go. [Evil Is A Thing/A person/a being that says I know all and there is no more to life then the things I know] Rationality seems more left hemisphere focused and the left hemisphere tends to impose structured order on the world and be updated by the right hemisphere and the right hemisphere generally updates it with negative information and with fantasy and so the left hemisphere will impose a coherent structure on the world which is really necessary for you live in it but the problem is there's a tension between coherence and completeness and that's partly why you need two hemispheres you need one to represent the world and you need one to keep track of the exceptions and to feed those slowly into the representational system so that it so that it can stay updated without collapsing into complete chaos. 36:14 Reason For Downfall - Reason that Osiris{Person/King or ruler] got overthrown by set was because he was willfully blind old senile[shaving the weakness or disease of the old age] and willfully blind same idea as the flood myth. 38:21 On moving to a new place - If you move into a new place that you will not be comfortable there until you've investigated potentially cleaned and repaired every single square inch of it the more attention you pay to it the more it'll become yours and that's far more than mere like material ownership which is also relevant but in order to feel comfortable somewhere and to dominate that place to be in meshed in that place you have to attend to it you have to shine light on every corner and you have to do that with yourself and with your relationships as well. 39:49 On Going To The Unexplored Territory - If you go outside what you know i.e unexplored territory] it will cause a fall because it'll damage your knowledge structures and you'll go down into chaos and that can really destroy but by the same token if you do it successfully then the new you that arises can be stronger and more complete than the previous you. 41:40 On Hero - The hero breaks a rule in the service of a higher good[has a judiciousness of rule breaking] but he's still breaking the rules and that's what puts them outside the boundary of the social establishment. 42:00 On Introduction Of Tyrannical Element Of The State - So as a child when you're being socialized you encounter the tyranny of the state and one of the best you can't yet there's no way around it. 42:13 On Happiness Discipline And Tyranny - Children are always running around having fun and they're really bubbly and and impulsive and joyous and playful and that causes a lot of trouble because positive emotion is very disruptive. They'll run around and break things they'll hurt themselves and they'll get into trouble. You're always saying calm down sit down behave don't do that and it's it's not because they're crying or angry it's because there's a day I'm happy and impulsive that no one can stand them and so and so that's a Tyranny it's like that the state puts pressure on you to regulate your emotions positive and negative and it crushes you it crushes the life out of you a lot of it and so you end up being adolescent and you're all mopey because the holes especially because you've been forced to sit down in school for like 17 years you're all sad and it's no wonder you know you've had the spirit taken out of you by the process of discipline. 44:47 Encountering The Female Anima - anima the Jungian anima and the anima is the feminine counterpart in the soul. The Anima got this supercilious[behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.] and judgmental and teasing look on her face and she's really trying to put him down and this is what the anima does the soul, she's the thing that teaches the exploratory hero that it's not everything it could be,it's part of the eternal tendency of women to make men self-conscious by their sexual selectivity.
@@wise_fool Yes I have on every lecture from lecture 3 to second last one maybe. The last one you should read 12 rules for life to understand it. If you want them I would be happy to help
He said he didn't like the way that the movie tried to underplay the importance of male roles in society or something. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know
When I found out I was pregnant, I spent a very long time integrating my own shadow. I find an endless well of patience when I remind myself how much harm I can do to my son. And honestly, I owe that to Jordan for introducing me to psychologist like Jung.
I love all great speeches being provided to us to open our minds by this best psychiatrist Jordan Peterson. I feel his speeches are most beautiful addition to educated people all around the world
Dr. Peterson's assessment of films like the Lion King is far more refreshing and intellectually useful with respect to understanding human nature than what you'd typically find from what a postmodernist "scholar" might say about the film. The postmodernists would likely look at the whole thing as some sort of oppression narrative related to sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc... inserting abstruse and incomprehensible buzzwords and rhetoric throughout their narrow and myopic "analysis".
And then they praise garbage like Frozen, and adore nuclear waste like Maleficent. It’s a good thing he didn’t see that latter in theaters, or he might have burned the place down.
Indeed. I'm rather into vampire literature and gothic literature generally (primarily the original classics though of the late 18th - early 20th century. Dracula for instance has been destroyed in critical literature from feminist, gender, sexuality and psychoanalytical readings - which completely miss and redefine the point of good vs evil in the novel. They more or less ignore the religious iconography and narrative, even though it is the dominant theme - and one I think is more intended by Stoker than any other weird pet theories that have been invented. They don't take it seriously because it doesn't fit secular thinking. For example, by making it a story of patriarchal oppression of women/sexuality etc - thus romanticising the vampire as a symbol of liberation. I would really love to get an analysis of Dracula by Peterson as I think he'd give a much, much more honest and accurate reading. And I think he would make interesting points about human nature, psyche and religion in the novel.
Professor Peterson... thank you so much for choosing to put up these lectures. Because of you, I've taken a more enthusiastic interest in psychology... and I never would have read The Gulag Archipelago if you didn't speak about it. Please keep putting up more content. You have my support until the end.
I had been meaning to read Gulag Archipelago for a long time, Peterson's list finally pushed me to read it. Glad I did, a wonderful read. I think very few could read through that book and call themselves a devout Marxist at the end.
this is interesting. Giving birth in Portuguese is "Dar a luz", which roughly means giving light. Makes me realize that Latin based languages are full of symbolism.
The Lion King, watched it about 30 times when my daughter was little. Now, I watch it with my grandchildren. The best enjoyable teaching tool there is. My beloved Dr. Peterson, grateful for all you do for humanity. Psst, I am binge watchng your conferences....again. 😁
Just complete my BS in Psychology, in second half of life. Am proud to say the hard work culminated to graduating Summa Cum Laude. While the college was conservative, enduring the teachings from liberal texts was appalling. Its like the field of psychology was hijacked by SJW and PC. I'm going for my Masters in Art Therapy/Counseling with a cautious spirit, due to the liberal state of affairs. However, now I have Dr. Peterson's teachings as a guiding light and mindful compass. Am so grateful for these Videos, for these will keep me "sane" in what may be treading on tumultuous waters.
I'm curious what teachings in the textbooks you found most problematic. I've definitely seen some things in texts that I've shaken my head at, but I haven't thought about them politically.
What a beautiful way in which to explain to your students that you know the square root of just about nothing and that you have a got a hell of a shock coming your way when you have to step out into the real world. This is not a lecture, its an enlightenment.
I have rejected the idea of privilege up until this very moment. The students who got to experience these amazing lectures are and more power to them!!
Your lecture is exactly what I have put in to Action, in doing so it has has empowered me positively not negatively and destroyed any preconception perceptions that I had before now, and it has re birthed my spirit.
Thank you, Professor Peterson, for your insight and all your work. Your heart is in it, and I deeply respect that. I have learned so much from your lectures and interviews. Thank you.
The difference between punching a clock and participating in great work: an applause. You do great work, and people appreciate it. Truly, what you get out is what you put in: if you punch a clock, so do they.
I’m so blessed to have discovered this man! My God bless you and your family DR Peterson. Thank you for all your work and having the courage of being true 🙏🏽
This is why the Original Star Wars trilogy was great and the sequels are rubbish. The latter have absolutely NO attention to mythology and archetypes. (I'd love for Jordan to do a lecture about Star Wars btw)
Jonathan Vickers he was actually asked what he thought of all the new Star Wars movies after giving a lecture in Iceland. I highly recommend it if you haven’t watched it. He isn’t impressed with those prequels. They’re just more of the same as the original.
Dr. Peterson has profoundly changed my life for the better. He is absolutely amazing, and I relish his books and lectures. They are both extremely informative and full of truth. He has helped me tremendously in overcoming Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Thank you Dr. Peterson!
Since my encounter with Dr Peterson and Maps of meaning, I see archetypes everywhere. I could feel them before but now it's more conscious. Recently I had a conversation about Crime and punishment with my 20 yr old cousin and essentially he started the subject; I could not believe it!
+mark boggs No, the top dude of all the dudes in this hierarchy. I see these lectures going thru the roof: going outside, goin to Europe, to the sea ( deep sea fishin!), Holy Land, Joe's Bar & Grill, Art gallery, museums, Let's go sailing!---Everywhere . . . Maybe to the Women's Study dept. I'd like to see what one looks like. Meet 'em. Convert them to our side! OUCH !
Richard Elliott II, M Czerna. I continue to maintain that Jordan needs to grow a moustache in the shape of a lobster which is slightly wider than Nietzsche's. I'm confident this moustache is the one missing piece which will cause Jordan's complete ascension into full illumination.
I CANNOT believe Dr. Peterson's lectures are available to me here and for free!!! I must be dreaming. I paid for far less qualified instructors to teach me at a University. Feeling bitter/sweet about this.
I took Psych and gained a BS and MA and 6th year.....I never had a professor like this. I've learned more in the last month (since discovery of JP) than I have in years. He integrates things so I can gain access to what I know unconsciously . It's exciting!
edwardschlosser1 I’ve gotta a psychology degree and I agree with you. But I believe it is due to the way psychology is taught. The focus so much on things things that you have already learned through experience. We spoke very little on Piaget and we never even touched Jung or Freud, that got my knickers in a bunch. If it were taught the way that Dr. Peterson does it, where you have to wrestle with concepts in your head, it would be far more difficult and worthwhile.
Dr. Peterson, YOU are one of those pictures you mention in which no amount of words can explain. PLEASE keep up the passion and drive, as it is making a difference!!!! I only hope you expand your lecture circuit to my neck of the woods...Tampa Bay, Fla.
I am realizing that my intellect is capable of ecstatic experiences. Jordan Peterson is the kind of teacher that comes along way too rarely and leaves a trail even if you never enter his classroom.
I really don’t know if there is anybody else on earth so well-versed in so well spoken on these concepts. Any lecture by Peterson is so dense and that I don’t think you’d grasp everything in 30 listens. Additionally, I’ve heard criticism of Peterson that he says a lot without saying anything, but I think what’s really going on here is that he’s speaking about unconscious things (which can only exist on a substrate), and therefore not easily conceptualized or articulated in a single term or phrase. You always have to create a complex of ideas and link them together. Just as with any vehicle of knowledge, the understanding can’t happen in his words alone, it has to be integrated into the system in order for the connections to be made.
mark boggs +mark boggs Does anyone else anticipate Professor Peterson being a point in which will be focused upon as we continue the debate of "the future of speech on western(or at least North American) college campuses"? And if the Professor Peterson does continue this fight will there be an army of thinkers to back him? I like to think so...
git user53. It looks like Canada is either ahead from the SJW perspective or behind from the illumination perspective worldwide. Bill C16 HAS passed. What the Hell??? Canada? WTF are you doing??? I talk to LGBT people in the UK and they simply do not believe that it's true or possible. It's AMAZING. WORDS which must be said??? Really??? ... RE Jordan... The "story" tells that usually one man stands against evil. I think it's because it only takes one spark of truth to start a fire. ... Yes. There is an army behind Dr Peterson. It's not just an army of pseudo intellectuals such as myself posting pointless comments on youtube either. Real people will not stand for having their rights taken and many of them have guns. Jordan is averting a war... A lot of people died for those rights. They will not be given back. If they put Jordan in prison he will not eat. If he does that Bill C16 will fail because the public will be forced to understand the real issues. Jordan knows this. "They" know this. It's going to be very, very interesting...
I've watched this lecture countless times now, and each time I seem to extract more wisdom from it. His narrations of Disney Classics are perhaps the most accessible of his content.
What great ideas and insight. and what a great teacher Prof. Peterson is. As a teacher myself, this enthusiasm and flow is what really captures the students' imaginations and makes them realise that the ideas you are presenting are worth listening to. It's really hard to achieve and takes a lot of experience
Watching this lecture after having seen the new CG version of this story with my 3 youngsters today. I waited to see it before listening to Peterson's analysis. Brilliant.
When I was in college we didn't have any professors who were anywhere near the level of Jordan Peterson. I'm so glad I have the opportunity to watch his classes. Thanks.
Every winter I go into a Peterson hole where I watch nothing but his lectures.. and each time I learn something new.. even rewatching this.. the man has an incredible ability to see patterns and piece things together on a meaningful level.. not to mention the guy has great general knowledge of everything.
man I can't wait for part 2! this was so interesting. I never really thought so much about the symbolism in the Lion King before... but wow is it a brilliant movie.
so much knowledge and he is giving it to his students , lucky ones to be in his classroom, but he is also giving it to us RUclipsrs ...honestly I flip listening to Dr Peterson and second reading the comments makes me feel good, so many grateful people ! definitely Dr Peterson is making this world a better place by making us more concious and fully aware of the meaning of life.
I felt ike I discovered gold when I come across this man. If you listen and act, your on a journey to something truly special. It's never about the destination its about enjoying the journey. Love and blessings to all. I hope you are enjoying your journey.
The comparison between "choppy eye moments and smoother motion tracking" blew my mind. Didnt realize until he mentioned that, now i cant unsee the choppy movement of my eyesight. (49:10)
Just LOVE your lectures, wish you were one of my professors when I was in college. Analyzing a Disney movie for the deeper archetypal meaning is just brilliant and entertaining! Thank-you so much for sharing your knowledge, you are such a gift!
another thing I noticed in Scars intro: we also see him try to devour Zazu (the eye of the king). Perhaps we can see this as the dark hyper-rational part of our personality to purposely make us blind and destructive?
I think you're spot on. He said in another lecture that totalitarian rationality thinks that its knowledge is complete, therefore it 'has no need' to pay attention since it already knows everything about everything
Yes, I think it's our shadow self's attempt to blind us so we are unable to see the repercussions of our self destruction, acted on by parts of us that we therefore, inspite of desire, are incapable of actually seeing it's part of us, not outside forces wrecking our lives and relationships.
Dr. Peterson is like a father to me, that one i didn't have. I do love his lectures, his toughts and wisdom doesn't match with low degrees of consciousness and awareness. Fun fact for me is when he says: roughly Speaking, that's a power statement🔥🧠.
Professor, this is gold. Thank you so much for share with the world all your knowledge. I wish i could be in one of your lectures on day. Big hug from Brazil
I miss this version of Jordan Peterson. Not poisoned by politics, genuine and authentic. I just see a man that has been poked and provoked into another person. This stuff has ate him alive. I'm happy to see him still going. But definitely not the same anymore.
FEEL Sooo honored that I am one of the students sitting in this class!
Pay attention to that part where he explains why students take the university for granted.
I would give my left foot to be able to have a few sessions with Peterson...also nice to see someone else from NC.
Is it a Bachelor of Arts you are doing?
I've been to university lectures for 7 years. Never seen a single instance that the students would applaud the lecturer in the end of the class. This just shows how exceptional this guy is.

This is Gold.
Absolutely
yeah, knowledge has no monetary value, no matter what the government tries to tell you. It should be free, as it is thanks t Dr. Peterson.
I wish I could get adult child to listen to him and Jesse lee Peterson-not related!
I’d like to call it mental MMA mix martial arts and that’s why he kicks everybody’s butt
You are listening to his thought process. He will go down in history.
Peterson has said on more than one occasion that his lectures are an exposition of his thinking process as it occurs.
2 years ago, I stumbled upon this wonderful man. I was in a dark, self-hating place in my life. Now, I've completed my first year of college and made the deans list!
Further, lion 'kings' HATE their sons. They drive the sons away! They don't want to ever have them return. They keep the daughters.

I can safely say that I have learned more from Petersons free lectures in 2 months than I have from my degree so far in Psychological Science that I've been doing for 2 years.
Kinda describes what level of education we are at..
Augass - Or, are you just being political?

2:20 memories, dreams, and reflections by Carl Jung
Rajiv Malhotra on the "U-Turn" Theory:
"Westerners appropriate Indic ideas through a process called the U-Turn. Some, but not all, also start demonizing the source Indic traditions using a lot of pretexts, such as calling them "world negating" or accusing them of "human rights" abuses."
"As an example, Malhotra examined on how Jung appropriated much from Indic thought - including key ideas of collective unconscious, archetypes, and synchronicity. The U-Turn Theory also explains that many Indians internalize the Western adaptations of Indian culture and re-import them into India: For instance, Tantric healing is more fashionable as "energy healing" or as reiki; yoga's return to India's Westernized middle class owes a lot to the West's adoption of it; and Western research on cognitive science and neuroscience includes yogis who are mere "subjects."
In short: He never gave credit to where his "groundbreaking" findings came from.

16:13 Hierarchy -
1. The notion is is that at the top of the pyramid there's something that actually doesn't belong in the pyramid it's something that goes up above the pyramid
and can see everything
you're gonna be in a lot of pyramids in your life dominance hierarchies and different states and families and all of that and they'll arrange themselves into a hierarchy
and there'll be something at the top and the top is the thing that can do well across hierarchies so it's not stuck in any one pyramid it and it's partly associated with vision
and the ability to see a long long distance also to see what you don't want to see and to report that back to the king
2. Our eye and your capacity to pay attention especially to what you don't want to pay attention to is the thing that continually updates that model
In The Freudian perspective Of the Psyche it's animalistic and full of of implicit drives sexual and aggressive in particular as far as Freud was concerned and that's
because those two drives say unlike thirst or hunger are much more difficult to integrate into proper social being and tend to be excluded and left unconscious, we should integrate
these three things to the ego 1.Agressiveness 2.Sexual Drives 3. Anxiety
19:22 -Top Of Hierarchy -
1. standing up straight and tall and that means that being high in serotonin because serotonin governs posterior flexion and you are dominant and near the top of hierarchies
you tend to expand so that you look bigger than then you could if you shrunk down and so if you're low dominant person you wander around in low dominant postures so that you look
small and weak and you don't pose a threat to anybody but if you're at the top you expand yourself so that you can command the space.
2. When You Integrate Your Dark Side In Your Personality You will look though and then you can express full range of emotions and be capable of kindness and also of cruelty.
21:50 Potential -
1.potential is partly what you could be if you interacted with the world in a manner that would gain you the most information right because you build yourself out of the
information in the piagetian sense.
2.If you take yourself and you put yourself in a new environment new genes turn on in your nervous system they encode for new proteins and so you're full of biological
Potential that won't be realized unless you move yourself around in the world in two different challenging circumstances and that'll turn on different circuits
so it's not merely that you're incorporating information from the outside world in the constructivist sense it's that by exposing yourself to
different environments you put different physiological demands on yourself all the way down to the genetic level and that manifests new elements of you.
3. If You want to be the king you need to Integrate the tradition and rescue your father from the underworld.
27:40 -
### 1. The way to full maturity is to find what you lost as a child and regain it . You have to regain your capacity once you're disciplined and you know how to do
something you have to regain your capacity for play and sort of for wide-eyed wonder and that's maybe the childlike part of your spirit.and the
reintegration of that childlike part with the adult grown-up part Revival the adult grown-up part and allows the child to manifest itself in a
disciplined way in the world.

30:44 -
the king always has an evil brother and also the hero always has an adversary and the reason for that is the king always has an evil
brother and that means that the state always has a tyrannical element and the tyrannical element exists for two reasons
1. one is the state deteriorate of its own accord and that's an entropy observation what that means is that the state is a construction of the past right but the present isn't the same as
the past and to the degree that the past is mismatched with the demands of the present then it's then it's then it's a tyrannical it's malfunctioning and so
it's it's a continual problem with the state it's always two steps behind the environment and so then that means that the awareness of living people has to
update the state.
33:12 -
When a flood comes into your life, you might be destroyed because you might not have build your defenses strongly enough and may have a willful blindness and also might be cause of the
harm in your life.Where the flood comes and you're surrounded by chaos and you'll look into it you'll think I knew this was coming I knew I wasn't paying attention I knew I hadn't
sorted things out and the consequences of that will have cascaded and wiped you out and then you're in real trouble because not only did you get wiped out but you also know
it's your fault and that is not a good thing that makes you bitter and resentful and murderous.
33:47-
The Evil adversary of the state or the people are generally Hyper Intelligent rational
the problem with irrationality with rationality is that it tends to fall in love with its own product and so then it comes up with a theory that makes that a
totality and then it won't let go.
[Evil Is A Thing/A person/a being that says I know all and there is no more to life then the things I know]
Rationality seems more left hemisphere focused and the left hemisphere tends to impose structured order on the world and be updated by the right hemisphere and the right
hemisphere generally updates it with negative information and with fantasy and so the left hemisphere will impose a coherent structure on the world which is
really necessary for you live in it but the problem is there's a tension between coherence and completeness and that's partly why you need two hemispheres you
need one to represent the world and you need one to keep track of the exceptions and to feed those slowly into the representational system so that it so
that it can stay updated without collapsing into complete chaos.
36:14 Reason For Downfall -
Reason that Osiris{Person/King or ruler] got overthrown by set was because he was willfully blind old senile[shaving the weakness or disease of the old age] and willfully blind
same idea as the flood myth.
38:21 On moving to a new place -
If you move into a new place that you will not be comfortable there until you've investigated potentially cleaned and repaired every single square inch of it the
more attention you pay to it the more it'll become yours and that's far more than mere like material ownership which is also relevant but in order to feel comfortable
somewhere and to dominate that place to be in meshed in that place you have to attend to it you have to shine light on every corner and you have to do that with yourself
and with your relationships as well.
39:49 On Going To The Unexplored Territory -
If you go outside what you know i.e unexplored territory] it will cause a fall because it'll damage your knowledge structures and you'll go down into chaos and that can
really destroy but by the same token if you do it successfully then the new you that arises can be stronger and more complete than the previous you.
41:40 On Hero -
The hero breaks a rule in the service of a higher good[has a judiciousness of rule breaking] but he's still breaking the rules and that's what puts them outside
the boundary of the social establishment.
42:00 On Introduction Of Tyrannical Element Of The State -
So as a child when you're being socialized you encounter the tyranny of the state and one of the best you can't yet there's no way around it.
42:13 On Happiness Discipline And Tyranny -
Children are always running around having fun and they're really bubbly and and impulsive and joyous and playful and that causes a lot of trouble because
positive emotion is very disruptive. They'll run around and break things they'll hurt themselves and they'll get into trouble.
You're always saying calm down sit down behave don't do that and it's it's not because they're crying or angry it's because there's a day I'm happy and impulsive that no one can
stand them and so and so that's a Tyranny it's like that the state puts pressure on you to regulate your emotions positive and negative and it crushes you it crushes the life out
of you a lot of it and so you end up being adolescent and you're all mopey because the holes especially because you've been forced to sit down in school for like 17 years you're
all sad and it's no wonder you know you've had the spirit taken out of you by the process of discipline.
44:47 Encountering The Female Anima -
anima the Jungian anima and the anima is the feminine counterpart in the soul. The Anima got this supercilious[behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.]
and judgmental and teasing look on her face and she's really trying to put him down and this is what the anima does the soul, she's the thing that teaches the exploratory hero that
it's not everything it could be,it's part of the eternal tendency of women to make men self-conscious by their sexual selectivity.

You should check Zizek's Pervert Guide to Ideology it's a hilarious misconception
“Anal” y sis
Too bad our new generations of kids are watching Disney movies like Zootopia instead of lion king.

Because now, you are aware.
I'm curious what teachings in the textbooks you found most problematic. I've definitely seen some things in texts that I've shaken my head at, but I haven't thought about them politically.
How can so much knowledge fit into one guy! Raw intellect and wisdom!
i've never been so bummed that a lecture ended...
What a beautiful way in which to explain to your students that you know the square root of just about nothing and that you have a got a hell of a shock coming your way when you have to step out into the real world.
This is not a lecture, its an enlightenment.
Jordan Peterson makes me cry out of sheer happiness and a fulfillment of a need to be understood.
A wise old drunk guy once told me "Rules are there for the guidance of the wise, and obedience of the foolish."
1daveyp love this.
I was told something similar
“Rules are for fools and only fools obey the rules”
+evil- Scotsman
...Nope. Not similar at all.
He just quote Aristote : "I have gained this by philosophy: that I do without being commanded what others do only from fear of the law."
"wise old drunk". Hm.
Thank you for your incredible and generous contribution to the world, Dr. Peterson!!!
Every two seconds in this class my mind blows away
I have rejected the idea of privilege up until this very moment. The students who got to experience these amazing lectures are and more power to them!!
Your lecture is exactly what I have put in to Action, in doing so it has has empowered me positively not negatively and destroyed any preconception perceptions that I had before now, and it has re birthed my spirit.
The amount of valuable and fascinating info compacted in here is just incredible. Hes such a potent speaker
It's amazing how much insight he can give in less than an hour. It's just insane. So grateful I can watch this in my bedroom.
People were so interested and entertained in the lecture, that they literally applauded. That's amazing.
It’s one of my life’s most eternal desires, to attend his lecture some day. This was brilliant stuff
The sequels were not as bad as everyone says it is. If you dive deep into them, they were really good. Only the new trilogy by Disney is shit.
Agreed
@@Marcusaurelius913 I think you mean the prequels. The sequels are Disney's work
Dr. Peterson has profoundly changed my life for the better. He is absolutely amazing, and I relish his books and lectures. They are both extremely informative and full of truth. He has helped me tremendously in overcoming Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Thank you Dr. Peterson!
Professor is truly a blessing to the humanity.
Since my encounter with Dr Peterson and Maps of meaning, I see archetypes everywhere. I could feel them before but now it's more conscious. Recently I had a conversation about Crime and punishment with my 20 yr old cousin and essentially he started the subject; I could not believe it!
Peterson is that DUDE💯😤🅱️
The dude of dudes.
Must be psyched mark boggs :D
+ mark Oh hell yeah, I'm with ya, man. Let me sign somethin!
What an amazing lecture!! Brilliant. The amount of educational material within it is huge. Thanks for sharing Dr. Peterson.
I want to thank you for everything JBP! Your words of wisdom made me better myself and my life. I'm eternally in debt too you.
I CANNOT believe Dr. Peterson's lectures are available to me here and for free!!! I must be dreaming. I paid for far less qualified instructors to teach me at a University. Feeling bitter/sweet about this.
I'm 38 and going back to college. I think i found my new major.
I took Psych and gained a BS and MA and 6th year.....I never had a professor like this. I've learned more in the last month (since discovery of JP) than I have in years. He integrates things so I can gain access to what I know unconsciously . It's exciting!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_mindedness
edwardschlosser1 I’ve gotta a psychology degree and I agree with you.
Andree K I am 68 and going back to college. Study hard!
Discover the teacher inside of yourself.
Who comes 15 minutes late to a Peterson lecture? LOL
Someone who needs to clean their room.
Someone who needs to get their act together.
someone who needs to not lie
someone who needs value sleeping regularly more
Someone who needs to pursue what is meaningful, not what is expedient
A man who makes his living out of showing a room full of kids the Lion King and Pinocchio.... come on. Dude must be doing something right...
Oh Hell, Dude! You must be right!
mark boggs +mark boggs Does anyone else anticipate Professor Peterson being a point in which
will be focused upon as we continue the debate of "the future of speech
on western(or at least North American) college campuses"? And if the
Professor Peterson does continue this fight will there be an army of
thinkers to back him?
He learned how to monetize social justice warriors
Thats why I would pay the big bucks to go to University want a Coke?
I knew my favorite movie was good for a reason. This explains everything
"You see this lit place"
Lit, fam
I've watched this lecture countless times now, and each time I seem to extract more wisdom from it. His narrations of Disney Classics are perhaps the most accessible of his content.
It’s so packed with information like all of his work
What great ideas and insight. and what a great teacher Prof. Peterson is. As a teacher myself, this enthusiasm and flow is what really captures the students' imaginations and makes them realise that the ideas you are presenting are worth listening to. It's really hard to achieve and takes a lot of experience
This is amazing! you're so much better than my psych teacher. Thank you so much for sharing this for free!
The brilliance of this man is Out of this world! I have no other words but THANK YOU!!!
PETERSON I FUCKING LOVE YOU MAN
man I can't wait for part 2! this was so interesting. I never really thought so much about the symbolism in the Lion King before... but wow is it a brilliant movie.
Wow that flood bit caused by wilful ignorance really hit home for me.
The Lion King has always been my favorite movie. This explained a lot about myself and why I always loved it.
so much knowledge and he is giving it to his students , lucky ones to be in his classroom, but he is also giving it to us RUclipsrs ...honestly I flip listening to Dr Peterson and second reading the comments makes me feel good, so many grateful people ! definitely Dr Peterson is making this world a better place by making us more concious and fully aware of the meaning of life.
One day this clip will be in a museum as a reminder of what the world was like in the before times.
I would LOVE to see Jordan Peterson go over TwinPeaks in a similar way!
Jordan should start a film club
Excellent thank you. The quality of this years lectures is so good, So glad I donated, just look after yourself please mate!
I'm so glad this is all on youtube
I think it was just comedic
Yes, I think it's our shadow self's attempt to blind us so we are unable to see the repercussions of our self destruction, acted on by parts of us that we therefore, inspite of desire, are incapable of actually seeing it's part of us, not outside forces wrecking our lives and relationships.
Dr. Peterson is like a father to me, that one i didn't have. I do love his lectures, his toughts and wisdom doesn't match with low degrees of consciousness and awareness. Fun fact for me is when he says: roughly Speaking, that's a power statement🔥🧠.
I find Dr Peterson to be a brilliant thinker and communicator. I have learned so much from his lectures and recently his podcasts. Fascinating mind.
wow man you are the new spiritual leader of our time
No need to be racist
I desperately want to have a beer with this man, and discuss whatever comes to mind. I find it rare to get excited about potential conversation.
THIS MAN IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING 😍
Jordan Peterson words are wisdom pearls
God bless Jordan's mind. May his vessel continue to teach us the willing.
This is the first thing I've ever binged watched in my life. I can't stop!
scars green eyes represent envy
That is an excellent observation!
And perhaps greed?
Also sickness
@@FreeAmerica4Ever
Indeed. Hopefully I am not envious of Simba

Cain and Abel...
These are fabulous. So lucky to have him in this world and those available to us in this format
