  • We all love knit fabrics but have you been scared to sew with them?? Then today is your day! Never fear! Just learn a few tricks...
I'll share all the ins and outs of knit fabrics, and you'll be sewing in no time...on a standard sewing machine. Yep. That's right! You don't need a serger here. SEWING MACHINE recommendations:
My current sewing machine is a Baby Lock BRILLIANT. If you're looking to buy a good entry level machine, I also love the other machines in the series called JOY, ZEAL, and JUBILANT. You can purchase and read some reviews on this site:

This was an excellent lesson! I just bought my first sewing machine today (kind of an impulse buy, if we're being honest) and I wanted to make my own workout headbands. The zig-zag stitch tip was super helpful because I bought spandexy fabric to work with. Thanks again from a new fan!

This is the answer I have been looking for to help my young granddaughter to grow out her bangs. We try to clip the up but they are all lose by the end of the day. I think a cute stretchy headband will be a big help. I am also trying to add some elastic to a swimsuit for her mom and really appreciate your teaching about sewing stretchy fabric!

Thanks so much for making this video! My daughter purchased a cute head band from a skate shop and loves it like crazy. She paid a little too much for it in my opinion. So I took her to the swap meet where they sell surplus fabric from LA's fashion district for only $2 a yard. We were looking for videos and the head bands you make are just like the one she purchased but with a larger bow for a "Rosie the Riviter" look. She's now well on her way to making her own head bands.

Hi, I have been having a fun time sewing scrunchies from remnants and cut up old clothes, to sell at small town FM. Then I saw a cool wide head band on someone and she took it off and showed me (about 10 x6 in tube or 20in before tubed) but for so long I could not vision how you made it into a tube. Just brain cells wouldn't go there. So, I googled "sewing tubular head bands" and found you and the "second inside out half way thing," and I know it's silly sounding, but what a victory! I'm so happy. Mystery solved, and I will make more of these wide bands that really hide sparse hair and roots, and so forth. Great for this windy place too. Thank you thank you! Twojays/Montana

Thanks so much for the advice. I may have to either wing it or buy a zigzag attachment. The lady that owned it was Mennonite so the only attachments she had were for quilting, embroidery and to sew frills. And a buttonhole maker which is the only one I was familiar with.
