    Thank you for the three ways! My cousin has alopecia and is using a headband to hide her hair loss in the front. She asked if I could make her some and I found your video!! Thanks so much for all the tips. I even went to a thrift store and found a cool knit swimsuit coverup to use.

    I have a Verve as well, that I have only used for mostly mask making. I finally started making bowl cozies, pillow cases, and microwave potato bags and i'm looking for a new project. Just started headbands but wasn't sure which stitch. Glad to see I guessed right! Thanks for the video!

    Twice my fabric got stuck in the machine. It doesn't move. And I am using a recycled t-shirt. What am I doing wrong?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  Год назад +5

      Some machines will pull knit fabric into the feed dogs when starting. Try starting the seam on a regular scrap piece of cotton fabric then scoot the knit right next to it and continue sewing. You can also start sewing about a 1/2 inch from the edge and then backstitch. Make sure you are using a ball point needle for the knit fabric as well.

    liked this video very much. you mentioned that a jersey needle needs to be used or a universal needle. I have always heard to use a ball point needle when working with knits/stretchy materials as universal needles will make holes and should only be used for cotton fabrics. I am confused. would you please reply. thanking you in advance.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, correct. Some knits are fine with a universal needle. I find the more cotton the knit fabric has the more likely it will create a hole with a universal needle. I always test the needle on a scrap piece of fabric first. I hope that was helpful.

    Hello!! Would it be ok to use a serger for the first headband? Specially at the end when you fold the two ends onto each other? Or will it be too much fabric for the serger?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  Год назад +1

      Hi Jenn, You could try it, but it is a lot of bulk for your machine. Another reason to use a regular machine is that you won't have the serger stitch chain to hide.

    What if the fabric does not stretch that much how many inches will minus from my head circumference

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  2 года назад

      I would only focus on using fabric that IS stretchy enough, or you may not be able to get it on your head.

    Just want to clarify, you cut two pieces of pink fabric but only used one to make the headband, correct?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  2 года назад

      Hi Angelina Yes, you are correct. You only use one of those strips. The fabric was doubled so I ended up with two cut out. That is a little confusing. Sorry about that.

    Hmmm, just looked at head measurement guide and it does not make sense to me. Toddler and teen are same size but 3-10 year olds are bigger. I know we are supposed to use as a guide, not a set rule but my 7 year old grandaughter is 22 inches, a big adult. Hmmmm
    That said, as I have told you before I just love your videos and use them all the time, thank you.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  3 года назад

      Thanks for reaching out and thank you for catching that typo. I have fixed those measurements. Here is the link for the correct chart. drive.google.com/file/d/1wINK4mqF8gBRXMlKwjxSFDNfgpY6bk0C/view?usp=sharing
      When you measured your granddaughter's head, did you place the tape measure where she would be wearing a headband? Thad does seem pretty large for a 7-year-old. I am 22 inches and I think my head is on the larger side.
      Let me know if you have any further questions. Getting ready to upload the topknot and bow headband tutorial. Enjoy your day, Jan
