    Thx! Awesome video. Do you think four of these pods would fit behind the 5th Gen 4runner grill? (as a hidden lightbar) Thx again for the great vidoes!

    Nice build! Definitely a great way to mount those lights a little lower. I have a feeling that approach can be used for all sorts of rack mounting issues. Those brackets with the rubber feet that didn't extend long enough might be necessary to help support the array on bumpy roads. You might consider getting a longer bolt/thread material so that the rubber feet can make contact with the crossmember of your rack. How does this impact your electrical system? Do you still have enough power without the need for a second battery? Do you have a second battery? I don't remember. Thanks!

    They look gorgeous! It be great if they, DD, created a light bar option for the SS3 and SSC1 series as well. Plus if the wiring loom could be contained within a machined conduit; whose length can be specific to the number of Light Pods then that would be the icing on the cake. But those Amber lenses look like jewels.

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  Год назад +1

      Yeah that would be sweet to see. I've seen a few people with ssc1 and ss3 bars but they seem to just mount them all to a crossbar.

    Thanks for the info! Had the question about picking the backlight so I guess you pick the one you want and it'll stay that color until you change it. And to change it you have to turn the backlight on and off quickly then select your light color?

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  Год назад

      The DRL and actual light have their own positive wire coming out of the switch pros so two different switches. Then the ground is shared.

    Would 2 of these fit on your lopro bumper and clear the bull bar? I know lots of people run LP4's or 6s on theirs, but would love it if 2 SS5s could fit!

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  Год назад +1

      Yeah this is something that can be done. They will just be kind of close together and you would need some custom brackets. I think the ones they come with are too tall.

  • @hockeycrazynerd982

    What are your thoughts on light patterns? Looking at getting a set to put in my hybrid bumper. Between the combos and driving light pattern.

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  2 года назад +1

      Unless you have your mind set on something, I've heard you want the more concentrated lights higher up. I think that a wide pattern like fogs will diffuse too quickly on your roof. I would say go with combos if you need extra fog light right by your vehicle. But if you have a hybrid and plan to have fogs and a light bar then you could probably go with fogs, driving SS5s, and a spot 30" light bar. That would be a nice transition of light. It really all depends on the rest of your lighting setup! Hope that helps.

    • @hockeycrazynerd982
      @hockeycrazynerd982 2 года назад

      @@OverlandEngineer Currently rocking the ss3 yellow sport fogs, thinking about pulling the trigger on a light bar and ss5's with the sale, would you recommend a mix of yellow and white? Or go all yellow bellow and when I eventually get to a light bar up top I can go white up there.

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  2 года назад +1

      @@hockeycrazynerd982 Thats sweet. Totally personal preference. What color is your rig? I really like the white lenses personally on the black rigs. I also tend to prefer white light but amber is really nice for fog and snow. Unpopular opinion but super functional is having both because they mix and are easy on the eyes. I'd always recommend yellow fogs and LED low beams and then after that its just whatever you prefer! Because the pods in the hybrid bumper will be side by side, I bet having matching lenses would be clean. I guess if I was you I would do yellow fogs, yellow SS5s, white 30" light bar, and white roof rack light bar eventually.

    How'd you wire up the back light to your switch pro?

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  Год назад +1

      The backlight is just a positive wire, so the main lights and backlight share the same ground. I just put a ring terminal right on the backlight green wire and connected it to its own switchpro spot.

  • @Larki91

    Maybe it’s just the camera? For 7 lights up there it doesn’t seem that bright, and the pattern seems focused on 1 small spot

    • @OverlandEngineer
      @OverlandEngineer  2 года назад

      It is not really supposed to throw very wide with the lens I chose. The camera also probably does not do the brightness justice and its more about comparing it to the other lights I have than using my camera as the stand alone test. I could just crank specific settings when editing this video to make them look like the brightest lights on planet earth.
