Yes! Had me in stitches
I really want them to compare the weight of both vehicles by the end of this. Hi Truck has gotta be significantly heavier
And I'd say less capable off road because of it.
Seriously. Hi truck has got to be quite the pooch now with all that extra weight.
@@GasTank87 Seriously they could be 1000 pounds heavier by the time their done. The Bumpers the roof rack, the winch, the fancier lockers and associated equipment, and it's all heavy duty stuff so none of it was designed to be light weight.
@@s.willis8426 not just 1000lbs but a lot of it is up real high… the centre of gravity is getting worse.
That's why the folk with the most expensive stuff is mostly street queens
$90 lightbar user here - MUCH better to have spread than distance on trails
My set up on my suburban is a light bar on top of the vehicle and a light bar set inside of the bull bar in the front of the vehicle. I also have a light bar set into the rear bumper as well. Total cost a bit under $600.
When it comes to lights, this is one of those "middle ground is best" type things. Like, there is absolutely no need to spend 2k on a light bar, but spending the bare minimum is also not the greatest. Spend a few hundred on some quality lights and you'll be happy.
Yes like spend a few bucks on a pair or 2 of the old school style kc lights they put on the bumper and call it good. 2 on a roll bar aimed slightly out and 2 on the bumper more straight forward would be plenty and not break the bank.
Baja style racing would be the only time you'd need extremely far shinning lights when off roading. For what they are doing that massive roof light bar system is not necessary.
I spent $90US ($120 Australian) for the spotlights i have on my truck they are awesome, super bright really nice colour temperature aswell (more of a daylight white and not a blueish white) in my opinion i cant really see the point of spending 2K on a set of lights
I went from a set of those older KC to a cheaper light bar. Blew those KCs out of the water and it's still running 8 years later. So longevity isn't an issue either.
why not buy 2 cheap bars for $90 each? Blow the the $2k lights out of the water and use the other $1820 for more mods! Seems like they need "low guy", "high guy" and also a "smart guy".
Yeah , I feel like if they maybe spent like 200-300$ ( still a low budget ) there’s probably a light bar that can compete with kc . Feel like they should do that with every episode . Low truck gets garbage compared to high . When there is items still on a budget that could compete with the high truck purchases lol
The katana sound effect was spot on. James saying "whoaaa that's ugly" immediately killed me as well.
"Git trucked up and call your Mom" could be a top 10 rap hit! Possibly No.1!
Cheap lights are no worse and can be replaced multiple times at the cost.
I'd go with low truck on this one. You can add 2 more front HID lights for long throw beams and still be low budget
Really need to put Nolan on High team next season. I'm feeling his pain now and I can't even afford a project car 😥
he wanted to be on low team tho
Its about quality and reliability at the end of the day
We need a "get trucked" shirt!!
For another hundred bucks you could have had a really good spotlight mounted to low truck I'm not spending two grand on a set of lights because of the freaking logo
Exactly, also you do not need to see 500 meters infront of you when you offroad. Low trucks wide and smooth visibility is what you want when offroading.
dont get me wrong, high car's lights are a lot better but fuck off are they 2 grand better lmao, low car could've easily spent slightly more and gotten a very similar result
Exactly! In what universe is the more expensive light setup a better option?! A $2000 worth of friggin' lights can be justified ONLY if you are buying anti aircraft illumination!
The main downsight of Low lights is not the lower performance. It's the reliability. Those chinese led systems get hot af. Not only that can fail, but the water seal in the enclosure can fail anytime, leaving you with no lights when you need them the most.
With these kind of survival tools you are paying the reliability mainly, not just the punctual performance. But yeah, the difference is way too much. There must be a reliable choice in-between the two.
Pretty much what I did then bought the covers with the logos of eBay and bang no one can tell the dif
There's a 20-fold difference in price between the two. I wonder, is there a (let's say) $500 option that has a good combination price, performance, and looks?
That's the thing. The KCs were 20x more expensive but only offered 2x more lux in the tests. James kept mentioning that they are scientifically better lights but didn't really grapple with the fact that those same measurements demonstrated a much worse value proposition for high truck. I just really doubt that the modularity and look, which is totally subjective, can account for that kind of markup. I would guess that a $500 setup that more closely resembled the look and features of the KCs would eliminate them from consideration. If it could offer similar modularity and looks while at least maintaining similar lux to the lightbar, it's a slam dunk for low truck.
So next time a middle of road mods? Best option middle of price between two. $100 to close to $3000? $1500 would get you a lot.
I think you'd do way better getting 2000$ worth of 90$ lights 😁
@@jake2011rt Psssh, "scientifically better" they used a light meter, that's just one metric of measurement.
They mostly seemed to enjoy the looks of the KCs, which isn't very scientific.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen MPG ratings before and after the lights were installed on each truck, those things must cause hella drag and wind resistance and maybe measurable drops in fuel economy.
@@MrTheHillfolk That would be lulz, and also blinding.
High truck is getting crazy and low truck is becoming a metaphor for my whole life
A solid $250 light bar will do
The dark spot immediately in front of high truck would drive me nuts though despite the significantly better light
Same... Flood lights are better as area lights, row of spots will look like one, uneven lights with prominent shadows. I also would think that seeing more to the sides is way more useful than seeing twice as long... which you most likely won't be able to see since there is going to be very bright region close by. If you ask LD which solution should be used, they will say flood lights.
I got you cover bro ruclips.net/video/AGCqzDsZVzk/видео.html
Now they need better headlights!
@@vSparq I was going to say, that could have been at the spot where, to me, it looked like they were driving with headlights off just to see what their aftermarket lights alone were like... But I'd have to imagine that 2000 dollar lights are going to assume you have some gnarly headlights as well, since you're obviously not sparing any expense to illuminate the area around you...
Headlights are supposed to light up the immediate vicinity in front of you, up to a couple hundred feet. If they had some gnar headlights, then they may find that those KC lights were MUCH more usable, and the low trucks lightbar may not even make *any difference at all* when turned on, once you've got super bright headlights already lighting up that immediate area in front of you, which is where the lightbar really shined, pun intended. The only thing it may do at that point is illuminate some of the area in their peripherals a bit better than your headlights are designed to do, due to not wanting to blind other drivers..
And yes I'm talking with proper headlight housings for the type of lights they install, and beams angled properly down in front of the truck, as opposed to directly in oncoming traffic's effing eyes like EVERY TRUCK OWNER EVER does!
"These'r great! Hmm.. I tilt these sumbitches up a bit more n I cn see a helluva lot better in fronna me! N nobody else but me needsta see when Im the one drivin the truck! Manafachurers sure is stoopid fer not thinkina this one!"

I'd love if they made a "importance" list and decided where stuff fit in. So for instance if you only had $X,000 to upgrade your truck, what high parts are important enough for you to spend your money on and what low parts can you get by with. Because tbh low lights worked fine, and even though both James and Nolan went for high lights, I think this would be on the bottom of the list of importance
Isn't that exactly what this is, comparing high cost items to low cost items? Watch the series and decide what items that are pricey are worth spending your money on... and f everyone who tells you otherwise. It's your truck... or car, or whatever
I said this last week. I want a short follow up where Nolan and James have to agree where they spend the money on a truck. Nolan can be the wife and is the husband.
yeah like someone else said, they’re presenting the individual components, you decide how you prioritize the overall list... Of course, for any off road vehicle, tires and suspension are the foundation and should come first.
I think they do that at the end of the series
they did that in the last episode of the last series, i imagine they will do the same here
The light out of the KC's was more warm. I think that's what Nolan means by "more real"
Yeah daylight yellowish warmth vs the artificial blue light that a lot of white LEDs give off.
Actually the characteristic "blue" LED color is much closer to the temperature color range of daylight compared to the warm halogen glow. People just think halogen looks more natural because it is closer to the color of "artificial" light sources like fire and filament lights.
@@crisprapper daylight its actually around 5000K, white with a light blue hue
@@jpiccari Exactly.
The LED bars kelvin rating is like 6000k. The KC lights have a kelvin rating of 5000k which is closer to the suns kelvin rating. That's why OEM HIDs are 4300k. Closest to natural sun light. Warmer light color is much better especially in dusty and foggy conditions.

Low team gets this one for me. Only because they insisted so much on the "looks" of the KC to give it the win. I could do some searching and easily find some LEDs that have the same looks as the KC at a "Low Team" budget.
Also I think the Low foglights should have been near the middle so the light was a little more focused.
For real, like how about something half way, like KC style rack with LEDs at like 2-500 dollars or so. Low budget doesn't mean you have to go rock bottom choices

Editor did Nolan dirty with that slide whistle lol
A interesting, informative test on comparing both types. I have been running a LED bar for maybe 4 years, it gets a lot of use being in Australia. For the money I would go the cheaper bar, there is only a certain amount of light you need to see the road for safety. I would be tempted to add a second full length bar to the bull bar though, so $180 is still far short of the $2k.
These yanks don’t understand how real 4x4s are built, everything down under is better
Uhmm, these light bars are rated for 'off-road' use and arn't ment to be used on public daily use roads. Because they are like hi-beam and blind the oncoming driver which can cause a serious accident. City drivers who put these light bars it on their city suv's and such...just to use it in city because it ''looks cool'' are bunch of d.... (not trying to offence you, just saying)
I dont know in AU, but in EU if you have one mounted & even disconnected and go to car inspection, you will fail it, because these light bars are not for road use and will have to reapply for inspection again specially taking it down b4 the inspection. And if you'r unlucky to be invited in one of the 'car road-side inspections', then also police will fine you because of it and/or even remove your road legal sticker and stamp on temp. one so that you remove the bar and again need to go to inspection to get your car 'road legal' again.
@@LooNeYlv any (reasonable) person using such lights, if they even use them on the roads at all (many don't, including myself on all but the darkest nights on roads with no streetlights), turns them off when there is incoming traffic, basically using them like upgraded highbeams for when there is no one in front of you.
Also, thats horrible I would hate to live somewhere like that-
@@LooNeYlv in Australia, you are allowed up to 4 additional driving lights. They must be able to be turned off with their own switch, and they must turn off on low beam.
Living in Alaska I need quality lights. Winter is cold and harsh on lights, also the bumps on the road kill bars, I’ve destroyed multiple from road chatter. I’ve never had a rigid, Baja or my vision x bars fail.
For me, low team wins on this one. The 2000$ lights are only if you're really serious about off-roading at night. I've seen many 100 buck light setups being way more than adequate in situations where you can't see anything without them
I feel like KCs R&D department just cant keep up with all the LED tech coming out of China and Korea
I think thats a pretty fair assessment. I have a combination of dirt cheap and mildly cheap lights on my right. My light bar was about $500 and works perfectly fine for what I need it to do. The light pods I have were amazon specials and they work fine. My only complaint with the pods is the finish hasnt held up very well but my jeeps not a show rig so that doesnt bother me.

That most likely is because low trucks brackets were screwed directly to the body while hi trucks lights were mounted on a roof rack. The roof rack is going to more vibrations and flex to get to the lights. If the KC lights were mounted to the chassis, the stability should have been about the same.

Exept for if you participate at the Dakar ralley, the cheapo clearly winns in practicality only because the KC setup isn't 20 times better, it's not even 5 times better. And if you're just on a budget both in money and self esteem, just buy generic throwers and order some KC covers that fit.
That drone shot at 11:40 is amazing, you can see how bright the KCs are at a distance.
I love this series, but can we give Nolan hi-car next time?
This, I want so much
When daddy James says no, he means no.
Agreed!!
No.
No. Nolan still has his head on his shoulders. He’d be frugal with the money. James is going for top tier items.
Lux test was a game changer! Nice touch!
we have the low car lights on our forerunner, and teh two block lights on the back are at an uneven angle where one points down slightly "fuck you lights" as my dad put it. "someone sitting behind u with highs on? fuck you lights"
I think with the cheaper lights, you should've ordered 2 of the light bars, had one on the grille and one on the roof. Also, you could have just wired the spots and the bars into a different switch each. But for that amount of light, a 20x price increase seems a touch steep.
Up To Speed: Ford Australia when?
give it the beams!
Yall should throw on the Whelen RC spotlights
