HF has crappy duty cycle times for their electric winches, but then again, ALL electric winches have similar crappy duty cycles (at least compared to a hydraulic winch)... At least HF puts their crappy duty cycle rating in their manual instead of hiding it like some of the other electric winch manufacturers do...

I’ve been using Road shock lights for probably 5 years. I’ve torture tested and submerged the first light bar I got and I never had any issues. Out of all the vehicles I’ve put them on I’ve never had any issues. The biggest thing that sold me is when compared to big brand lights the big brand output was terrible and they fogged up in the first week of just normal driving and weather, the road shocks never fog even after being submerged. They are so many pros with the road shock brand I won’t buy anything else. Thanks for the great video.
I went with the Harbor Freight Road shock edge 6's on my gladiator bumper. Great build quality and the light output is fantastic. When I saw them on the race Jeep, I was looking every day on their website. Was the first person to snag a pair at my local HF. Thank you so much Ben, I absolutely love them!
My Mahindra roxor is running the original roadshocks 4 led square pods. 8 in total. 2 years of regular use. No issues. Cheap lights for a cheap bug out vehicle
@@RobertMcAlpine-cu6qxnot even close to the real cheap ones... you get what you pay for. I love all my Roadshock lights, they are great lights for a reasonable price
Man your explanation for the relay was very easy to understand. I’m thinking i’m gonna get these eventually since i can’t justify the bajadesign cost. Crazy how well they do for the cheap price
I've been running the regular road shock led cubes for over a year now and they're incredible. I have the spot lights on my a pillar and the floods on my bumper as extra fod lights. I put some Lumix yellow film on the flood lights to make them work better in inclimate conditions.
For that price, I'd personally rather go with Diode Dynamics. And considering that they offer different tiers of performance, I'd love to see a comparison between DD and the HF ones
I have used Harbor Freight LED cubes and small light bars. I also have the 12,000 Apex winch on their hitch mount. I did use a Warn 2" multi-mount front hitch on my 4Runner as they didn't have anything I could adapt to work. Not the highest quality stuff, but it works amazingly well.
great video, I wish you'd have shown as many shots without the yellow filter to check out the illumination better. Unfortunately, as of early March these are not listed on their website & they don't appear to be available until around April. Would like to see a side by side comparison of the white 4 led as well as the 6 led as far as night light up video to see pattern, distance. you could update with amperage draw for each. thanks for sharing these
With how road salt and decier in the winter, up here in eastern half of WA wrecks everything during winter driving, I won't spend top dollar for high end lights any more. My Rigid Dually lights are getting wrecked. Harbor Freight really need to offer (or include) a clear lens cover. I've been running clear lens covers on my Rigid Lights since I installed them in 2017, and the lens is in perfect condition because the cover protects them from road sand, etc in the winter.
I absolutely love you videos, as a jk owner I watch your videos and want and wish to do a v8 swap to get rid of the crappy 3.8, thank you for showing us what is capable of becoming an awesome Jeep! Also on the bucket list is the Barnes 4wd bumper that you have on the jku
Dude your timing is INCREDIBLE! I’m actually in the market for 2 lights to mount on my Arcus front bumper. I’m thinking these are going to work just fine😊😊😊
I love harbor freight, used them for several years, used their tools incorrectly and only ever had 2 tool failures ( because i used them incorrectly) hassle free warranty i was in and out in 5 minutes with new and updated tools. Also they run deals all the time, baught their biggest tool box for $500 and they gave me 2 years of their membership free.
I’ve had BD and DD and rigid. I have also been buying cheap knock offs lately. The majority of them either the knock offs were the same output of so close you couldn’t tell the difference unless you put them side by side. My main issue is the expensive lights offered no reliability compared to the knock offs. Actually my knock offs have outlasted almost every stupid expensive brand I have owned. I’m done buying the expensive stuff. They are ripping people off. Period.
I’ve had the same experience as you. My rigid and bd lights have only been as reliable or even less as the ebay specials. To my knowledge about the manufacturer of led lights and other products made in China, these lights are all built in the same warehouses in China. Only difference is the brand name ones get their name slapped on it, and the branded name company themselves may/ or may not go through them once they arrive in America at their corporate office, they may go through a quick inspection to pass a rough inspection test. China ones usually get no second inspection and so it’s hit or miss. But they all use the same cree diodes or simi/Phillips diodes used by the big brands. unless the brand is strictly “made in the USA” only products, if they come from China, they aren’t any different from the eBay specials, they actually are made by the same manufacturers in China. Not that eqch product is exact same quality as the eBay special, of course if the high end brand spends more on a light for the raw material and labor to make said light, it will usually be of better quality than the eBay equivalent. But we as consumers have no clue which light the brand actually spent more money on producing and which light they spent exactly the same as the eBay light and just charge 5x more cuss of their name slapped on it.
I’ve had knockoffs on my pre-runner for years. The light quality and reliability of the knock offs is so close to the namebrand stuff. It’s hard to justify paying for Baja designs or rigid.
@dailydr1ver935 baja designs used to be made here in california, they cleared house and moved the entire operation to Mexico. So I wouldn't trust them anymore honestly
Really nice video and review. I just found your channel and am happy to say that I was less than a minute into the video before pausing it to subscribe. Tomorrow I head to Harbor Freight to pick me up some lights. Thanks for turning me on to some great products. 👍
Great Review, the Roadshock lights do look great for such a good value. You can tell the Baja Design is brighter overall but not enough for me to justify the price difference. Although with your F250 setup, I think the two Roadshocks on the outside and 1 Baja Design in the middle would be the ultimate package for that truck. I do light how much side light you get from the Roadshocks. The 2 Roadshocks put out as much if not more side light than my 6 3" Pod lights in my Raptor Bumper. Thanks for the review, I think I will invest in a couple. Also the amber lens is a solid Yes from me. Love the amber light offroad and in foggy conditions.
I’ve had the roadshock cube lights in both front and rear bumper. After 2 northern Michigan winters they are still going strong but the powder coat has flaked off. I run 2 KC slim lights and a gravity pro light bar and those are top notch
I bought these for myself for Father’s Day, and am getting ready to install them. Your video talked about the wiring considerations and need for a relay for the low and high beams, but not the backlight. How did you wire that? I assume there is no need for the relay for the backlight because of the low amp draw, correct?
when compared to the 300+ for the BD lights it is very budget... My BD LP9 pros were $750 each... I still vouch that there is almost no comparison to them and have impressed many people with my pair of mini suns on the front of my truck. If I was going to run the risk of bashing these lights on the rocks or trees, i would definitely consider the cheaper option.
The lp6's on my Bronco did the same thing....delaminated. Wire the low beam to your aux switch, tap your high beam circuit on your oem high beam circuit. That way it will automatically kick into high beamwith your headlights going to high beam. It will require your aux switch to be on to work. It acts like a gatekeeper for the lights. On my truck it turns on the high beams automatically when needed.
I’ve been trying to figure out relays that would do this to where I would add a second one to have my low beans trigger 30 or a manual switch trigger 30 on the second relay. This would allow a manual override to turn it off all together or have it fixed to my lights. This video is amazing at explaining the relays. Please do a relay video alone for lights and title it as such because I bet that video would make views!
Got me thinking of getting these. Your relay set is going to burn out your switch to 30. That a high amp power source for the relay. You mean switch one and two is that coming from your relayed switches? Your lights should be brighter too if you source 30 to the battery with a fuse
Just want a good amber fog light for road use. Have a 40 mile one way drive to work through occasional fog, pretty rural highway for most of it. Vehicle already has mounting points with factory grille rack so no fabrication needed.
I picked up two of the 4 LED for my pillars and two 6 LED for the front bumper on my Gladiator. Used your second relay suggestion as the base of my setup except I wanted to keep aux 1 and 2 open for future use and the lights are too much for 3 and 4, so I used 3 and 4 as triggers Relay one: Battery power to 30 Aux 3 to 85 87 to 30 on relay 2 Relay 2: 30 powered by relay 1 85 connected to factory high beam 87a connected to low on pillar lights 87 connected to high on pillar lights Duplicate setup for bumper lights. Now to find a relay holder...
Thanks to your video i just bought 2. Going to mount them the same way. I really want a switch for my low beams and want high beams to be triggered by the high beams on my vehicle. I am nervous about hooking it up because even though they are "budget lights". 300 is a lot of money to throw away if i do it wrong
Do you have any tips for wiring a light like this that has 3 modes to a switch panel? Is there a way to make one button on my switch change through the modes? Thanks for the video, lots of good info!
I looked at brand name lights ONCE and said I didn't need them. A pair of 44W Chi combos do me just right for $15 apiece and a 120W 22" light bar @ $22. ;) And I love the 6500k color. Unless it's foggy (keep it low beam) and screw amber. YMMV
Harbor freight has been doing a great job calling out the name brands by making better stuff and a better price. I always go to HF first for anything. That being said, they also have their fair share of junk too still so of course research and look into the products before you buy.
Thanks for the video. I picked up the lights and a auxbeam switch. I’m using harness… to clarify it’s solid red and red with black stripe = low & white and white with black stripe = high?
I run a pair of the old road shocks with the gravel guards on my race car trailer for night loading my car they have worked well now for 10 years , wired to a togglr switch on my tool box , may swap em out for LED's , Good vid
Ok so if you put the HF light more on the edge of the bumper the side throw light would project a lot on the side of the vehicle and somewhat next to the door that would be very useful also can you wire this up as a DRL seems you could
I really don’t want something too tempting to steal off my truck. I’ve got a special pair of big HID Highlights for special occasions though that are easy enough to remove.
Probably worth noting that using pin 30 from a switch defeats the purpose of the relay. You may be throwing too much current through sw1. 30 should really come from a fused high current source.
Ooh! Those 4" look like a great substitute for the KC HiLites Flex Era 4s that I've been wanting, but for at about 1/4 the price. Thanks for the heads up that these are coming!
Would the 6" be too big for A-pillar lights on a JT? I just like way round lights look better. How's the reflection on the hood from the side shooters and the flood pattern?
Just curious how these would work on hood as ditch lights with the side lights? Would there be to much glare or would it shine in the windshield? Thanks
I was thinking of mounting the 6" spot/flood on the cowl. Would the flood light cause a problem reflecting on the hood? I see you have the 4" spot/flood mounted there. Any problem?
About 4 months back I ran into some fellas with Ridgid at an event, I thought I had met some really decent fellas that could offer up some solid advice on my selection of lighting, especially when spending a lot of $$$, when I reached out to them they wouldn’t respond, nor return calls. I love to network and rely on my customers being satisfied 100% of the time. Not 85%, Not 99%, but 100%, if they’re not I make it right! It’s the RIGHT thing to do. This is unacceptable behavior in ANY business, I for one answer calls usually by the second or third ring, otherwise my business wouldn’t survive in a very competitive environment. So, I have decided to move on. As a vet I’m also looking for the “Made in the USA” logo. Companies need to pay close attention more to customer service and response time. In the mean time, I’m still looking. #ridgid #bajadesign #kclights
Time will tell, I have found over the years that the cheaper led lights fade dramatically over time. But it definitely could be great in a low hour usage application 🤔
Great video. One question about the one relay setup, How many amps are going through switch "A-1? Switch two would work fine. one has all the load going through it? 30- 40 amp relay on a 5 amp switch as hot?
Slightly off the topic I’d like to talk to you about your winch. I know three years ago. You did a video on the Badlands which. I see it on your race Jeep, and was wondering if that was the winch you could afford on your budget or was that the winch you would’ve chose either way. Thank you. I’m getting ready to buy one.
I'm extremely interested in these RoadShock lights for the price point. But for the BajaDesign lights, why not send them in the BD and get the refurbished/replaced under warranty. I imagine it would cover the issues with the delamination or even the pitting you were talking about.
You had the badlands off road jack on earlier in the video…do you know if it has a mount to put in the back of a vehicle or would it also work with pro eagle mounts?

Do you think the 4" would look and fit better for an A-pillar setup versus the 6"?
Well I wouldn’t want any type of flood beam on the A pillar. Only pencil beams up there.
“Pretty simple” says the EM (Electrician Mate) 😂
You impressed her with those lights
The Baja Designs seem a little more of a green hue vs the HF… but that could be the go-Pro??
Always love the content, keep up the incredible work!! 👍
They do have a different hue of yellow for sure
Great video... I wish we could fast forward a year to see if they're still working. 😷
These would be really nice on the roof.
What is the name of the song you use in your video. Love the beat. It goes well with your video.
I was wondering how you would connect the backlight to come on with the jeep running lights?
If you angled the BD lights to concentrate the high beams then it would shift the angle of the side lights as well.
These have better side lighting no matter how you angle them.
I would use an old school floor high beam switch on them
I would really like to know if this could be interested with Baja designs light harness for the Harley and use there bracket as well for the fairing.
Baja has lifetime warranty and the best Customer service. That’s what you pay for. Try calling them
About 4 months back I ran into some fellas with Ridgid at an event, I thought I had met some really decent fellas that could offer up some solid advice on my selection of lighting, especially when spending a lot of $$$, when I reached out to them they wouldn’t respond, nor return calls.

Could you wire up 4 lights with 1 wires switch bundle you can buy from harbor freight?
HELL yeah those are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great video
Time will tell, I have found over the years that the cheaper led lights fade dramatically over time. But it definitely could be great in a low hour usage application 🤔
Can you have both lights on at the same time without burning them up? High and low range.
High turns on both the low and high
Awesome but for me light to the side is better!
Can i wire these directly to a switch pro without a relay? I was thinking of just high beams only
I've been running the roadshocks on my Bronco as ditch lights for 2 years and the cheaper ones on my XJ for 5 years. No complaints.
Great video. One question about the one relay setup, How many amps are going through switch "A-1? Switch two would work fine. one has all the load going through it? 30- 40 amp relay on a 5 amp switch as hot?
I’m thinking the same thing. All the load is going thru switch 1. Kinda defeats the purpose of using a relay to handle the load.
Yeah, it's a quick and easy email to BD. Definitely the best warranty dept I've worked with for Offroad lighting.
I will probably get these warrantied, but either way it was worth showing
Great video! Any thoughts on how the amber backlight compare on these HF lights compare to the BD? Always been a fan of how the BD's look as a DRL.
The backlight seems to pop really nice
You had the badlands off road jack on earlier in the video…do you know if it has a mount to put in the back of a vehicle or would it also work with pro eagle mounts?
It does not fit a Pro eagle mount, however there are a few mounts designed for the badland. Here’s an example, amzn.to/3XZ4sTV
Just curious how long the light will run on 100 ah 12v lithium battery?
They do good for the price, but there's quite abit of difference compared to the Morimoto pods.
