  • Are upgraded fog lights worth it? We find out by swapping out our stock 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat LED Fog lights for a set of Diode Dynamics Pro Fog Lights. Spoiler alert: these suckers are BRIGHT! Since an install video is no good without a before and after, we headed to the trail to get a side by side comparison. Which one comes out on top? Is it the Yellow Fog Pattern kit? Maybe the White Driving Pattern kit? The answer may surprise you. Or not. I don't know you. You might not be someone that's easily surprised.

    Those (white lights) aren't SAE fogs, but rather DD SAE Driving (auxilliary high beams) → (on 2nd viewing, I see that you labeled them right, only called them fogs). The actual SAE Fog (pros) are 80 degrees wide and make a remarkable difference to the side and out front. I've actually installed both the SAE Driving and SAE fog (DD SS3s Pros) on my truck, and they are phenomenal.
    That said, great video.

    • @SolaOutdoors
      @SolaOutdoors  3 года назад +4

      That's correct, I called them "fogs" due to the location of them being in the stock Ranger fog light location. They are in fact the driving beam pattern, which watching back I only really mentioned once or twice in the final edit. Sorry for the confusion!

      @@SolaOutdoors - no worries, it was a great video. Only because I've installed quite a few DD SS3s on my truck and my friends' truck did it immediately jump out. Fantastic job SHOWING the light output and the differences. So many "reviews" are more about unboxing, sniffing/licking the box, and installing the lights (and maybe pointing a camera at the lights to show how bright they are). It's a much more informative video to get real-world imagery comparing side by side. Thanks again and great job.

      god damnit these arent even the SAE fog lights

    • @RipReturns
      @RipReturns 3 года назад +3

      @@JRSLASH - DD SS3 SAE Fog are SAE compliant and do an excellent job of containing/aiming the light where you want it (as opposed to, for example, BD Squadron Wide Cornering). I run several pair of BD Squadrons in every offered pattern option, and all of them piss off on-coming traffic if aimed for my (maximum) benefit. The DD SS3 SAE Fogs are bright and usable without irritating oncoming traffic. The DD SS3 SAE Driving is essentially a supplemental highbeam, so they will irritate oncoming traffic (like OEM high beams) but are very effective, too.

      @@SolaOutdoors I’ve had the DD SS3 Max fogs on my in white on my F350 now for over a month and they’re fantastic. Throw is good, I currently have them angled up slightly to compensate for the poor halogens until I get those units replaced. Width is exceptional, really highlights your peripheral. Install was super easy, just unbolt metal plate over housing, unbolt stock light. Connect new light, bolt in, replace plate. Done. @@SolaOutdoors - would love to see comparison of DD SSC2 SAE Fog versus BD S2 Pros (wide cornering) ... for entirely selfish reasons: I've installed BD S2 Sports on wife's van just 14" off the ground (and they aren't bright enough); so naturally looking for "upgrade." My concern is the van - unlike truck - is much lower to the ground and good throw without blinding oncoming traffic is much more important.

      From our testing, this wasn't the case. Ours were originally sold as the amber/yellow fog lights and we had the white driving lens sent separately. As a note, the amber lenses are much closer to a yellow output than amber, so that is something to consider. The white output was close to a 6k color in our testing. The LEDs themselves natively output in white
