    Great Video! Wish you would have went more into wiring but I figured it out! You cut the crappy switch close to the switch, take off the ends and splice both reds to the white wire, green to blue and black to black.

      Thanks man! My bad, I kept switching it and wasn’t sure how I wanted it so I didn’t film the second switch. I’m glad you figured it out.

    Oh man, great video! I’ve purchased this light bar about 2 years ago. Finally found a video that it’s really helpful on the electricity part! So ready to install it!

    Do you have a video of you splicing the wires to the switch?

  • @daviddaprato3741
    @daviddaprato3741 8 месяцев назад

    at about 15:40 into your video, to splice the wires, did you connect red to red, black to black, yellow to green? I can't quite tell. That should make the switch unlighted when off and then light up when you press it to turn the light bar on? That's the way I want it.

    Hey man what size light bar is that?

    Love the video thanks! What do you do with the extra wires at the top behind the light bar? Tie wraps?

    • @smitheys
      @smitheys  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much!! I tend to over explain sometimes but I always miss something. The wires on the top i zip tie in the corner and the excess will slide under the wind shield and not move. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Hows the wind noise after this install? Also hows the wind noise with your roof rack before this? Planning in getting a roof rack as well.

    • @smitheys
      @smitheys  Год назад +1

      To be completely honest with you, the wind noise is pretty mild. Didn’t really notice any change from the factory to the new rack. I think the key is the rubber wind seal to help with wind noise. If I’m not mistaken, I think the rack comes with a free seal. Not 100% sure, but thanks for watching!

    What was the wire configuration that you used? My backlight stays on constantly want to change it to where the backlight only comes on when the actual light bar is on itself.

      Wow, I’m completely late to your comment and I can’t even help. I used a multimeter to figure it out and I can’t recall and I got rid of my 4Runner back in April or I’d go out and look for you. You probably figured it out by now but sorry I couldn’t help. I honestly think it was just flipping two wires out of the three, middle and top, but I can’t say for 100% certainty. Sorry again.

    might be a dumb question but - can you go through the car wash??

    • @smitheys
      @smitheys  Год назад +1

      Not a dumb question at all, Zach! The connections were made for everyday wear and tear, so they’re completely waterproof.

    i'm a dummy with electricity so maybe i'm completely out of line on this. but isn't connecting the light DIRECTLY to the battery providing way too much energy to the light bar?

    • @smitheys
      @smitheys  2 года назад +2

      No Craig, that’s a pretty good observation and question. These light bars are made for 12V and the 4Runner battery only puts out 12V (well the 4Runner is 12V, some cars/trucks run on 24V). This light has protections too, like an inline fuse and relay. Also the switch connects the light bar to the battery. Once the switch is turned off, it breaks the circuit so no power gets to the light bar. Hope this helps and makes sense!

    The problem with these adding is that if you forget to push the button off it'll eat your battery.

      Then turn it off? The same is true with your headlights, dome lights, and anything you can turn on.
