Im a parkour firefighter that does a lot of cross training as my routine, and the extra rope guard helps with durability a lot when jumping from buildings, climbing ropes and ladders.
Thank you for mentioning the frontsquat on the metcon 9. Can’t wait to try it on. I’m 100% frontsquat only and other dedicated weightlifting shoes such as romaleos or adidas adipower which their heels are too high. Metcon 9 added a bit of the elevation of the heel which is perfectly enough frontsquat. I got it for a sweet deal of $80.
what about the DU's? metcon 7 was really hurting my feet and had huge workload on my calves. wods like 5 rft with 80-100 du's and lets some heavy cleans was/ are a nightmare actually
The only time I've had issues with my feet during DUs was not shoe related, but foot strength related. Not saying that's yours, but haven't seen enough rampant feedback during my search to see this as an issue. But everyone has different preferences for footwear.
@@WesJH thank you for the answer. I needed to be more specific actually. It was the heel that hurts so much. Because it is too rigid. never had that issue with metcon 4 and 5. Days with DU I am using Nobulls or Nanos.
Excuse me, what do you think about another training shoes, for gym, cardio and active walk, like adidas dropset, under armour jet 23, Nike KD TREY 5x and air max impact 3,4 ? Because, I must order one of them, please help… And I very long thinking, can I use for this gloves basketball shoes (have lift in gym)?
it’s not about “who’s doing so many rope climbs?” it’s more about having a shoe that is excellent for when you do have to do rope climbs. too many times I’ve seen people not being able to do rope climbs because the shoes their wearing suck and slip on the rope. I really appreciate nike for adding the rope climb feature, unlike reebok which just adds the words “rope pro” to the side of the shoe and thinks that’s enough.
Now that’s an interesting perspective, but my experience has been rope climbs are more about technique than footwear. I’ve done them barefoot, as well as with every shoe on the market as I’ve reviewed them. I can’t imagine any shoe having less texture than my bare feet.
The beefy rope guard is a marketing gimmick. You do a ropeclimb in a ordinary trainer and it’s get ruined. Then you go and buy the sturdiest shoe you can find.
This color way is not bad I picked it up myself but personally I think this is the absolute ugliest metcon to date. Like really ugly. Absolutely no need for the excessive rope gaurd. But to each is there own thanks for the video
@@WesJH I’m sayin!! Doesn’t make sense. I personally liked the 8 other than what you mentioned almost none had a full swoosh design without that odd pattern. If they took the swoosh from the 9 and threw it on the 8 I personally think it could have been a fantastic metcon aesthetic wise
100% agree about the Metcon 8 statements. I’m waiting for my 9s to be delivered. Awesome review, I’m even more excited now!
Let me know what you think!

I’ve used Metcon 4,5,7 and now 9. The 9 is my fav for sure.

Front squat only!? You're a mad lad.
As always another fantastic video. Thank you Wes!
Excellent review, very focused
Excellent video. For running what is the best shoe, Nano x2 or Metcon 9? I have metcon 7 and it is very bad for running.
Thank you so much.
Great video!

Those closeup shots were really nice
I am waiting for mine, but I wonder if its ok if I ordered mens shoes in my size. Is there a major differences in mens and womens shoes?
The mens are a little bit wider In the toe box

Wes ive been rocking Reebok Nano 9s since late 2019. Is it time to upgrade to the metcon 9?
That's a tough one. I was a big fan of the Nano 9s and even the Xs. I'm enjoying the 9s though.

why not run in a pair of running shoes? Metcons are for lifting and cross-fit.
For workouts with a running component.

Idk why Nike can’t leverage their design teams from other areas and make it look incredible

That rope guard is completely out of place aesthetically wise.
Terrible to run in.
Metcon 9 is terrible for running. They are built for lifting
Running is relative to their purpose of metabolic conditioning workouts, which includes running.
