We should probably all unsubscribe if this is the severity of mistake we're going to be dealing with moving forward!! 🤬 (yeah I caught it, I tried to ignore it 😄 ).
I’ll buy these purely to acknowledge a company being willing to make a positive change they have been stubborn with in the past. Nike is at least partially responsible for a narrow toe box in athletic shoes. Props to them for doing this subtle, important change.
1. It's the successor to the Metcon 8, not the "predecessor" (0:05); and 2. Please don't say you're "gonna compare it to...other ones that are out there" (e.g., the MUCH better Reebok Nano X3), then not do so. (1:25).
I had the Metcon 3 and after the soles came off of the uppers and I got tired of trying to Shoe Goo them back together, I "upgraded" to the 7s. They're fine, but I prefer the 3s. They were lighter and less bulky and just felt more comfortable overall, while not being any less stable. Honestly, those Xeros you prefer look a lot like the early Metcons.
Coop taking a massive sniff test of his zeros had me rolling. What is it about guys that since we were boys we instinctively have to smell everything no matter how putrid. Will try on the nines next time I’m at the next time I’m at the Nike store. Thank you for the honest and entertaining reviews Coop.
I got a pair of Metcon 8s for £43 from the Nike Outlet Store which equates to roughly $54. It goes to show if you wait, you can grab yourself a bargain.
I got em on sale :) I usually wear barefoot shoes, like my favorite Merrell Vapor Glove 6's, but these Metcon 9's are pleasantly spacious in the toes! Not super spacious like a barefoot shoe, but way better than most other shoes.
I've got the Nano X3 shoes and I honestly think they're the best shoes I've ever worn, period. I wear them for pretty much everything, inside the gym and out.
I like the shoe reviews. I have the Metcon 7's which I love, and the reviews have been helpful as I probably won't need to upgrade for a bit. I would be interested in getting your take on the R.A.D one's as I have heard much about them but they have few reviews online.
Switching to barefoot shoes was a game-changer for me. They let my feet move naturally, which helped improve my posture and balance. Over time, I noticed my feet and legs getting stronger too. I wear Hykes Escapes, and they’re comfortable, minimalist, and durable. It’s like getting back to the way our feet are supposed to work. What do you think about barefoot shoes?
I genuinely miss the Nike Free Trainers they used to make. It had the flexibility of a barefoot shoe to a decent degree, the cushioning you see in the Nike Free Runs now, but the lateral support and stability of a trainer without an ultra hard heel. It was good for both training, running, and daily wear. Ever since they got rid of them, I ended switching straight to Vivobarefoots which are great but still miss that shoe for its versatility and comfort. It was probably ahead of its time and would fare far better today with the demand that’s present for barefoot styled training shoes.
I didn’t like going to the gym on my basketball shoes so bought these finding them at 85 euros. Nike runs really small these days so 28cm is a 11 not a 10 anymore these days. I have wide feet and the toebox is huge. Not too big but more than I’m accustomed to. They are comfortable and rather light and focused on toe bouncyness and heel stability. Only thing I miss is a larger higher arch on the insole.
Re lace lock: Can we just get a lace pocket on the tongue like some running shoes have? This seems like a quicker, sensible way to manage laces than needed to rely on a velcro closure.
Shoes are like iPhones. Constant updates, not always for the better. Keeping up with the joneses. Disposable. I doubt many people are actually wearing out their shoes except runners and hikers.
Coop - The Metcon 4's were the last Nike that fit my feet. They had the widest toe-box of any Metcon since. Luckily I bought two pair back in the day and still wear them. The 8's a total bust and very narrow. You're saying these are wider than the 4's? I'll have to buy a pair but am a little skeptical. Call me hopefull.
I have the 7s they are great for weight training, however I usually like to go on a spin bike after, the rear wide plastic heel catches and rubs. It's terrible in the wet too. That sounds like it's not a good shoe but it is, it's just not perfect as most claim.
Can you do a review on Steelflex Leg Curl and Leg extension machines? They are plate loaded and look like they fix a lot of the problems with plate loaded machines.
I've been powerlifting for years and had the metcon 7s and now the 8s, they have survived many heavy squats and deadlifts. my current pair is getting worn down and thinking about upgrading to the 9s, should I expect the same performance on these as my last 2 pairs or should I think about getting another pair of 8s.
the metcon 5's & 6's had removable hyper lift (heel) inserts that you could choose to put in your shoe if you wanted a larger heel lift, do the 9's still come with inserts as well?
didnt see a video about this, so i'll just ask. i am building a home gym and wondering, should i unload my barbell at the end of the session? or is it ok to just keep it loaded? cheap cap barbell and i am still under 100 lbs.
Would actually love to hear your thoughts on the Motus from Vivo. I know they’re pricy but seems like they’d be more stable than the other barefoot style shoes
I like the look but it doesn't sound like they fixed thr issue with using metcons they're good for lifting or quick movements but terrible at running even short distance or on a tread mill
The plastic heal on my Metcon 8 wore down in less than 8 months and I do NO cardio with them. Just wear them to the gym. Will not buy again and certainly wouldn't recommend.
I have every iteration of the Metcons and these are the worst ones yet. The heaviest shoe they’ve created, and has so much padding that they feel like they old man New Balances
I'm coming from a flat minimal unsupported shoe and wow these fit me well and seem like great lifting shoes. I like how they feel planted but not clunky, they're quite light, i like the very shallow angle like 4mm drop, but man these are ugly as hell.
I may have missed it, but are these good for heavier lifters? I’m 5’ 11” and my weight fluctuates pretty dramatically. Anywhere from 220-250. Would these hold up for someone that heavy? I struggle to find shoes that last more than a few months especially when I’m closer to that 250 weight.
You shouldn’t even be able to call a shoe a training shoe and definitely not a lifting show, if the front of the shoe forces your toes into a point. 👎🗑️
That heel is so bad. I tried a pair of the 7's on at a dicks sporting goods and just walking around in them felt bad. It felt like walking in weightlifting shoes which is not good imo
The Nike Metcon 9 is a joke. I bought one in Brazil, after less than 3 months it started to unravel the fabric on the top. It has no comfort or quality. Relatively expensive and breaks very easily, even when doing basic exercises at the gym, without exposing the sneakers to any stress.
Coop, the 8 is the predecessor to the 9, or the 9 is the successor to the 8 😊
I spotted that too.
Yep, that was a boo-boo.

Same. Love the nano line. It totally changed my shoe preference altogether and love the wide toe box

I have the 4s! High quality. I find them to be much more comfortable than my Metcon 9s
I have these shoes in a wicked neon orange. I typically hate Nike's but these are amazing.
I have the Metcon 3. Squeaky like crazy. Still use them though, haven’t upgraded them yet

I just ordered these for $120 on the Nike app. Not sure I would have pulled the trigger if I didn’t get the discount.

Design is 🔥 - though I just lift in my living room and don't use shoes
Can you do a review on Steelflex Leg Curl and Leg extension machines? They are plate loaded and look like they fix a lot of the problems with plate loaded machines.
Love my metcons. Absolutely can’t run or jump in them though. Don’t even like doing burpees in them. Definitely not jumping rope in them.

I lift in 40 dollar Amazon basic flat wide shoes with an added good insole.
I’ve worked out the last couple weeks in the Metcon9 and I just don’t like them as much as the 7/8. Just too stiff for me in the toe box
the metcon 5's & 6's had removable hyper lift (heel) inserts that you could choose to put in your shoe if you wanted a larger heel lift, do the 9's still come with inserts as well?
No, the hyper lift is now permanent i the sole of the sneaker
I think starting from 7, customers dont get extra heel like 6.
I just tried these on, they felt cheap as hell and have little to no shock absorption. I went with the let's go ruck rough runners.
Tried these and found them to be super hard, especially on the malleolus part, a real pity cause everything else was nice
Do you think these are good if i mostly lift but i do run a little when i have pe at school? And how is the grip to the shoes pls answer

I got them and returned them. I continuously tripped while walking with them.
Just got these for around 65 bucks on Nike today 😁
How's the squeaking? I like the metcons I have rn but the squeaking is probably the worst thing about mine
Remove the insoles, pour baby powder into the shoe, then insert the insoles back into your shoe. They will never squeak again.
