I have a soft spot in my heart for these cars. My little brother passed away in 2013, he had an iroc in the early 2000s. It was far from stock and fast as hell. RIP Levi. I'm looking forward to the shenanigans on this car.
Ike, I had an 88 Monte Carlo SS with T Tops. The problem is the seals shrink and become brittle. If the seals on your tops aren't torn or raggedy take Vaseline or petroleum jelly (same thing) and run generous amounts around your seals and let it soak in and that will take care of your leaking T Tops. I've owned a few T Top General Motors vehicles and this little trick always worked1 Take Care and I hope you're doing well.
Third gens are a ton of fun. I have an 83 that i bought when i was 15. I still have it 19 years later. Im in the process of putting a t56 behind my 6.0 in place of a 4l65e.
And Bro Isaac, again I'm so sorry for you and your brothers loss of Dad man and definitely feel your pain of loss. Lost my Pops this past July and it isn't something that you easily get over, especially when we lose our loved ones and the wisdom they've always had for us growing up! God Bless and I hope everyone is doing as well as possible. Grief takes its toll, but we must keep moving forward with life as well, otherwise we'll be consumed by the Grief itself! And this isn't what our parents would want for us. Much Love man and God bless brother. ❤ 🙏
An absolute icon of an automobile!! Used to cruze in one when I was like 10-11yrs old with my best friend and his Aunt. Was metallic candy apple red, t-top car. It was so awesome when she'd take us out, made great memories.
Today was a hard day because my grandma passed away about a year ago, and this vid along with the one from CarsandCameras made my day along with the smile you made after finding out the black bike had led lights, and John said something like "That smile means he already likes it" also nice to know that Mechanics with things like OCD or ADHD/ADD doesn't really affect them which encourages me to build something bigger that just a Mega Motto 212 for when I'm old enough to work on a Drumroll please.............Dodge Charger 2008.
Watching Isaac's videos, and cars and cameras just put me in a good mood, been watching since 2015, I literally watched all of the videos on cars and cameras, as they came out since 2015, keep up the good work:)
Awesome find Ike! Little tip I learned from VGG: use 2-stroke fuel to help lube the cylinders at the first start in who-knows-how-long! Love your videos man I’d love to find a 3rd gen Camaro or that square body for cheap! We live and breathe this stuff man! Happy wrenchin’!
To get that wheel off, you'll have to spray the hub and lug bolts with kroil and let it soak, then hit the rim from the backside with a big dead blow hammer. Then clean the rim hub and axle with a wire wheel and remove the corrosion, then liberally coat the hub in anti seize. I did that with every wheel i did when i was a tech at a gm dealership and Goodyear
Little trick I came up with getting stuck wheels off. Offered to do brakes on my friends 2018 4Runner a few months ago and spent more than an hour trying to get one single wheel off, all 4 were SUPER stuck. I think they use hubcentric wheels and there was quite a bit of corrosion on the hubs once I did get wheels off. Anyway, I loosened all of the lug nuts about half way, jacked it up high as I could and put a 4x4 under the inside edge of the tire, dump the jack fast as possible. The tire landed on the 4x4 and instantly came unstuck. Might be a good trick in the future. Love the car, what a smokin' deal man!
Great video really enjoy watching you repairing your never ending conquest of budget priced cars I think if you live to be 206 you will have them all on the road running at the same time. Congratulations on getting another resurrected. Have so much respect for you how you tag all your videos at the end with the memory of your Dad, God bless him Bill in Fort Wayne Indiana
.Great find Issaac. Aluminum rims may look nice, but try to change a flat. When Dorf had the tire recall in the 90's,3 mechanics took turns with the big sledge hammer like you used.I finally grabbed a 4 Foot wrecking bar and pried between the rim and brakes. That's how we had to do over 100 trucks and cars.Aluminum rims weld themselves to steel hubs and brakes.
That I believe is actually a Z 28 with the TeaTop option I have the Z 28 hardtop. The Iroc’s was a different option. The Iroc’s should’ve had the tune port engine.
Great find! The 3rd Gens are by far the most popular Camaro/Firebird builds now, Atleast out here in the Southwest/West. I'm starting to see alot more of them show up at Cars and Coffees, Cruise-ins and Local car Shows
Hey Ike, You always have great videos! To help loosen up a stuck wheel, Try loosening the up the lug nuts a bit & just drive it around a little bit, snd that should break it loose! Worked for me!
I had an 85 base model flat black 383 stroker and at a car show for HotRod mag it got stolen It's never been seen again. I made a fiberglass hood scoop and fender flares to fit the massive G-50-15 Micky Thompson tires and it ran 9.30's every pass. Get sub-frame connectors or she will twist. I'm sure you will love it as I did mine.
I own a 91 firebird and 91 gta trans am, both third gen's as well. They are awesome and reliable cars and handle great I daily mine. Love it! My trans am sat for 20 years with a bad fuel pump before I got it, new fuel pump and fired up like it never sat
On the inside of the car behind the back seat, underneath the carpet there should be a rectangle shape on the sheet metal. If so, the fuel sending unit is right under it. Most people cut it out and go to the junkyard and cut another one out, just a bit bigger,so you can make a trap door for it. It beats dropping the rearend out to change out the intank fuel pump and sending unit. Good luck
Love your channel. Thank you for changing the music.whatever the old stuff was I had a hard time with. The camaro is awesome.that would be my dream find.
The complete autozone aisle of performance parts on this I love it 😂 spectre hose covers the air cleaner the edelbrock carb and the old duralast gold top battery feels nostalgic for me I worked at the zone for over a decade and recognized a lot of that stuff under the hood thanks for that bud love your videos keep em up brother!
Early Irocs could come with the carbed 305, TPI 305, or TPI350(and later a 305 TBI)...so the setup on this Iroc was probably originally a carbed 305. The drum brake rear is also kind of a hint it was the base Iroc. The Firebird counterpart Trans Am GTA only came with a TPI 305 or TPI 350, but the Formula could get a TBI 305, TPI 305, or TPI 350. All the TPI 350 equipped f-body cars also would come with a Borg Warner 9 bolt disc brake posi-trac rear end. For 700 bucks, you did good. The problem with the rims being stuck is common. The aluminum rims start to corrode and basically freeze up on the rotors/drums(well, actually part of the axle that pokes out of the drum center on the rear) at the center. Get a Harbor Freight port-a-power kit and some PB Blaster lube to get them freed up. Spray the centers and on the inside thru the spokes, and then set up the porta power from rim to rim and a little push at the rim(put a 2x4 board between the rims and the rams so to distribute the pressure and reduce the possibility of damaging the rims) and they should pop loose.
Grew up with one of these. Dad got it fully loaded. My Mom hated it (lol). I remember the new car smell being very distinct. And the hatch liked to either not close or open by itself randomly. But it was kinda fast so I thought it was cool as hell. Edit: side note: the T-tops leaked even when it was new.
When i was a teenager my mom bought a brand new 89' IROC with a 305 auto with a performance chip from GM and out ran all my friends with 5.0's. I have always wanted one since then.
Great video l think it might be a z28 it has drum brakes on the rear unless someone changed the differential and was a disc brakes rear differential at one time still a nice Camaro..... Cheers
I had a Z28 back in August and I paid 700 bucks. Turned around and flipped it and I came out good .My friend has a RS steel hood with scoops if you're interested .
i see some comments about throwing the Edelbrock carb away that is $400 new, NAW! you have already cleaned it up and later tune it with fresh gas. if it don't work out, sell the carb or donate it to Riley's Rebuilds. i have good luck with Edelbrock or Holley. i like the side pipes on your Camaro.
The suffix code will tell you the exact Info on the stock motor. Right behind the alternator on the flat tab where the water pump mounts up.should be some numbers ending with 3 letters like say CKB. Every motor we ever bought for our cars "Novas". That's the numbers we used. Tells the stock hp and all the goodies info. So we wouldn't end up buying a 140 hp 350 or weak 305.
I can tell that car had a TPI setup before someone switched it over to a carb setup. I just had mine switched over to a carb and now it's actually reliable and runs way better.
Yeah, since you have hood clearance the rpm intake works wonders when you add a 1”-2” spacer under that edelbrock style carburetor. It does sound healthy. That’s a good bang for buck deal you got,,,
A smokin' deal for sure. While 98% of all IROC cars had the IROC emblazoned all over them, there were at least a couple hundred "California Special" available only in white or black versions that were true IROC's with all the body work and louvered hood but only said IROC inside the car and on the rocker panels. I know this because my best friend's brother had one and he spent quite a bit of money on it after I blew his doors off at Carlsbad drag strip with my V6 Capri that ran 13's (fast in the 80's) for a daily driver. Kind of a shame this one lost the fuel injection a long the way.
Excellent video Issac :) my late Uncle Bill had 1985 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinette in Baby Blue with T Tops , 350 V8 4 barrel carb, true daul exhaust from manifold back , power steering . brakes , cruise control, tilt steering , Turbo 700SR 4speed Overdrive Automatic transmission , am/fm Cassette radio , power trunk , he bought new and in 1989 trade for I Roc Z RS model Chevrolet Camaro, in Red Cherry also Silver trim had everything like other 1985 car had but no T Tops a Sunroof power one , plus Security systems plus key fob to! But 305 High Output V8 in 2009 he got me restoration to took clutch fan of Water Pump pulley , put 2000 CHEVROLET Impala electric fans on plus 4 core from 1976 Chevrolet Impala car install it and new fully frame not Unibody types ! Then he want 350 heads on true daul exhaust also 390 rear end gears in plus had only 178.000 and in 2011 he past away also car sold to ! Saw in Vechiles junk yard bad accident it was in and not fixable! I heard happened in vechiles accident and not good ! Isaac I say got nice car for a good deal and paint shine up beautiful ride ! Also Issac check out see if that Chevrolet Camaro Z28 was made in St. Theresa , Quebec Canada 🇨🇦 plant be so cool if was made there !
I love my iRock Z. I wish I had one mine got flooded in 2011 and being on disability. It’s hard to get enough money to get another one and I loved it but once they got flooded being disabled, you couldn’t do all the work so I had to get rid of it. I didn’t want you, but I didn’t have the money to fix it.
Seeing Issac in working on the car with music similar to fallout 3s in combat music had me rolling laughing for a second 😂 I was yelling at my screen saying the carbs on fire😂😂 that's possibly a timing issue with it backfiring through the carb (too advanced) it could be the old fuel though. Stuck floats? Gotta love that ethanol 😂😂. Bring back leaded gas
This weather does suck for working on cars. I'm trying to swap my broken transmission and I never have time. When I do have time it's freezing or raining, or both.
Checking the vin and RPO codes (they should be under the lid of the center console, sometimes another copy is under the back seat) will give you more info, but there's a bunch of stuff that's a give away what is going on there. I'm guessing that the car started as an '87 Tuned Port injected Iroc. Possibly an L98 (350, does it have 5.7 badges on the rear bumper stripe?) or an LB9 (305). It has a bunch of one year only 87 parts on it, the most obvious is the accessory belt drive- it used that configuration from 82-87, but '87 only got the multi-rib alternator belt, the rest got a v-belt). You also have a similar vintage dual electric cooling fans, that most people wouldn't have swapped in after doing a carb swap because they had to add something to control it since the ECM is gone. It looks to be a decent carb swap, it does not look hacked up like most are, and the engine looks to be a pre-86 small block which could be anything. Unlike others have posted it isn't likely to have a posi, Iroc didn't always get a posi, and when it did in 87 it usually got the Aussi Borg warner 9 bolt rear with 3.27 gears, I believe I saw a 10 bolt cover so it's most likely a 3.23 open rear, of course, that's easy to swap so anything might be under the cover. The front and rear wheels have a different offset, fronts can go front or rear, but the rear will only fit the rear. The reason that you're having an issue getting the wheel off is that you appear to have the fairly rare aluminum rear drum brakes (they were common earlier years, Grand National guys will pay a pretty penny for those in usable condition) and with the steel axle hubs you get galvanic action which corrodes the wheels on- once you get them loose coat the hub surfaces and face of the drum with antisieze or grease so it doesn't happen again. Cast iron drum cars weren't as likely to have the problem because of the cast iron and because they came with a thin steel spacer to compensate for their thinner hub surfaces. To get the driver's side off take the center cap of the wheel off and spray the inside with penetrant or ATF, you can do the same for the drum face through the wheel spokes, let it sit for a day and then try the sledge hammer again, it will come off. Alternatively, a bottle jack with a board braced between the 2 rear wheels will pop it off, but be gentle not to bend the axle. FWIW, I've had a bunch of 3rd gens and currently have 2 87's (a TA an a Formula 350 sitting in the driveway). I could probably help with most of what you might need help with, whether information or parts.
Hey Ike ! Love your videos man, you are an incredible engineer/mechanic ... so thats the one in the yard all this time ! I had no idea it had such a shiny engine ! Hot Dang
I'm currently looking to buy a 2nd or 3rd gen 'maro, in the Netherlands, a car in similar shape with mods etc., will run you about 5 or 6 grand. Running, driving and inspected you're looking at around 15000, you got a steal bro!!!
I wish I could find a 3rd gen camaro, but I got denied access to the facebook marketplace due to meta changes. I'm hoping i can find one of these one day. It'll make a great project car!
Had an 86 Z28 t-top automatic I loved that car, dad sold it after I got a speeding ticket, ended up getting a 91 Beretta GT 3.1L and got a few more tickets😂
I have a soft spot in my heart for these cars. My little brother passed away in 2013, he had an iroc in the early 2000s. It was far from stock and fast as hell. RIP Levi. I'm looking forward to the shenanigans on this car.
I love Isaac's smile and jubilee the moment the engine runs and he knows his $700 was an awesome deal.
Always finding them online auction deals
Looks and sounds like someone put some money in that motor to that alone might be worth $700
Awesome until he learns that the front springs are a to get out and replace.
Heck the the hood, intake, carb and chrome stuff alone exceeds what he paid. I'm jealous!! @@isaakwilson2727
Man this was a steal for 700.00 dollars
For some reason I always liked the look of the 3 gen camaros . Keep up the great work Ike👍
Thanks for the like Ike it's a really nice car I like it 😀
Ike, I had an 88 Monte Carlo SS with T Tops. The problem is the seals shrink and become brittle. I watch these but cars and cameras not so much. It’s got to much go cart content. Which is kid content imo… it’s just not for me.
A 6k horsepower Kross kart is insane 🎉they have cac @Robrt32
Glad you like them!
I was thinking the same thing, you don't use much and Seafoam works as well.
I had a 1986 trans am man. I had so much trouble with mine, but I did enjoy my t tops in mine
Makes my heart happy to see John in the video not the other way around on cars and cameras lol you guys always make a good team
Chuck "The Mullet" Jenky should've gone nuts over this car!😂 Right up his alley!
To get that wheel off, you'll have to spray the hub and lug bolts with kroil and let it soak, then hit the rim from the backside with a big dead blow hammer. Thanks
Not bad for a running driving Z28 , can't wait for more on this.
I was hoping for a Cars and cameras Grand Prix lap time!
hell yeah bro love it when its running right that thing is going to be a fun ride . would love to see more of this car.
.Great find Issaac.

lol people yank that crap out in the 30+ years since it was new haha
@@Halliday7895 The Joe Dirt fiberglass hood and Cherry Bombs would've been my first clue. 😆
Dead wrong 🤣The IROC was available with the LG4, the L69, L03, LB9, and L98. The LG4 and L69 were carbed.
Great find! The 3rd Gens are by far the most popular Camaro/Firebird builds now, Atleast out here in the Southwest/West. I'm starting to see alot more of them show up at Cars and Coffees, Cruise-ins and Local car Shows
Was completely surprised about the sleeper Z . Great purchase
This Camaro looks like it would be right at home in a Mad Max movie.
$700 MAN! That's a GREAT DEAL!!! It's gonna be a smoker!! Tires I mean LOL.
Hey Ike,
You always have great videos!
To help loosen up a stuck wheel,
Try loosening the up the lug nuts a bit & just drive it around a little bit, snd that should break it loose!
Worked for me!
I had an 85 base model flat black 383 stroker and at a car show for HotRod mag it got stolen It's never been seen again. I had an 83 with Iroc rims from the junkyard. Man I wanted those t tops so bad back in the day. Great find!

I absolutely love the custom exhaust on that Camaro
It looks like a real iroc. The only way to tell for sure is to look up the rpo codes in the center console.
Love your channel. Thank you for changing the music.whatever the old stuff was I had a hard time with. The camaro is awesome.that would be my dream find.
My editing software sucks and only let me put certain songs on certain clips so we just got lucky on this one
I was shouting at the screen"carbs on fire" waiting for the leaves n stuff to catch🤣 😂👏🏻👍🏻🇮🇪
You killed it with this 700 car man. Very nice and worth 6 times that.
Wheels have different offset. Rear has to stay in the rear. My 82 Z28 had a factory fiberglass hood. My 91 Z28 had a steel hood from the factory.
Had a 92 bone stock with a 305 and the big wing on the back when I was 18,,loved that car
God bless you brother. You are amazing
You didn't go wrong with that one. Wow.
Do the Chevette!!!
Sounds like it has a decent bump stick in it, someone definitely put some love into the drivetrain
Nothing more 80s than a T-top car. Nice 3rd gen.

Knowing this is a vid and Isaac can't hear me, at 19:58 I got up to get my fire extinguisher. I need more coffee.

Nice beefy car Isaac....glad your feeling better...That camaro is a beast!
Super jealous! That was my first car back in 1999. Isaac! Those rims are wider in the back the front are a half inch thinner. I can’t remember
They were always red as I remember ,nice find
Great video l think it might be a z28 it has drum brakes on the rear unless someone changed the differential and was a disc brakes rear differential at one time still a nice Camaro..... Cheers
I have been patiently awaiting an explanation on your intentions for this fabulous 1990s Icon!
80s icon but I agree
The flame thrower is an easy $700 score!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I had a Z28 back in August and I paid 700 bucks. Turned around and flipped it and I came out good .My friend has a RS steel hood with scoops if you're interested .

Oh how i wanted one of those beauties in high school, had to settle for the next best things a 85 Corolla lol. Another great video thank you
you over looked the hose covers that only some 1 from the 80s would recognize my uncle had those on his t bird

Chuck Pre-approval 😂 I had a 3rd gen fb 84 well balanced car 👍👍☮️
THX IKE!! 🙏 Be safe and drive careless! 🤪. 👊✌️❤️🤙🤙🤙
That was interesting the way you got the old gas out
Best way to get that wheel off is to get a big ass pry bar and pry behind the wheel between the rim and the drum.
That's awesome. I swear you get so many great deals. You should take the Camaro and your fox body 5.0 mustang to the track and see what's faster.
Nice camaro that was what I bought my son for his 16th birthday one tough car
Yeah, since you have hood clearance the rpm intake works wonders when you add a 1”-2” spacer under that edelbrock style carburetor. It does sound healthy. That’s a good bang for buck deal you got,,,
700 bucks best auction buy in a while i'll bet.. that engine and trans totally worth it! I bet the rear just needs to be lubricated and it'll be fine.
A smokin' deal for sure. I think you got a great deal. Because I can't find one with door's axles trunk or anything for under five grand
Was waiting on this guy to open the garage door but I guess he like breathing in exhaust
Would you take 800 (; Awesome deal on the IROC You are the man Isaac .
I love T-Tops. Been trying to get my hands on a 83 T-Top Mustang.
Such a beautiful car @issac it'll be fine , its one of Dream cars im looking foward go seeing what your gonna do with it
This will be a fun cruiser for next years run what you brung!
I just picked up a 84 for 500 few weeks ago fresh rebuilt 305 needs finished up but runs good
Seeing Issac in working on the car with music similar to fallout 3s in combat music had me rolling laughing for a second 😂
I was yelling at my screen saying the carbs on fire😂😂 that's possibly a timing issue with it backfiring through the carb (too advanced) it could be the old fuel though. Stuck floats? Gotta love that ethanol 😂😂. Bring back leaded gas
This weather does suck for working on cars. I'm trying to swap my broken transmission and I never have time. When I do have time it's freezing or raining, or both.
Old school "Dune Buggy" steering wheel. Just missing the "Suicide Knob" to make it complete.😁
Cool IROC time for the Smoke wrench to get those wheels off
Checking the vin and RPO codes (they should be under the lid of the center console, sometimes another copy is under the back seat) will give you more info, but there's a bunch of stuff that's a give away what is going on there.
Very informative. Thanks
Isaac heck yeah you toss an thumper, camp and black widow exhaus it be cool
Ike you’ve got the coolest damn car collection.

$700 all day. She's a little rough, but lots of potential. Great deal! 😎
Good car for the price, Just wish we would see Ike work on the projects he has going. Old Impala with the 6, Mustang, the 57 and more
Sad to see those old Mulletmobiles go downhill with each sucessive owner. Maybe this one will return to its former glory!
