In England an 80's car in that condition would be considered pretty good. I would personally go for a recommission of it and have an usable Iroc. Just do what is necessary to get it through the next year or two.
@@madrew2003 I always thought the IROC was the top-of-the-line, which meant the "big" engine under the hood. Too bad the 350 had no manual trans option, since it couldn't handle the power, so it was only available on the 305.
LSC, you need to get those wheel dollies for your shop. That way if a car won't move just jack it up and place it on them so you can slide the vehicle to where you want it to go.
I'm surprised you haven't secured a trailer with a winch. As many cars as you buy, it's about time. Glad the guy was cool enough to work with you on price. 1500 was a good deal for him.
If I lived within an hour drive of a u-haul place, I would probably not own a car trailer. A two day rental is cheaper than one tire, you don't need to repaint or replace deck boards, and you won't have a spouse complain about how it looks in the yard.
Its not worth a restoration. They were crap cars new. I had an 86 z28 and doors rusted out in less then a year and paint was peeling and electrical system what screwed. They had to buy it back under lemon law in just under a year.
@@rustbucketauto2328 1500 is great. Just fix the major stuff and blast the underbody for rust and get it treated and drive it till the wheels fall off. they have no real value they made a millon of those irocs.
@@papag5433 The 86 Z28 was not an IROC, it was a Z28, which means your car had very little upgrades from the crappy V6. An '86 Z28 was a bare-bones Camaro with a crappy 305 TBI engine which made nothing for horsepower. Did they make a million of those IROC's? Once again, you are wrong. 166,986 IROCS were made from 1985-1990. Being realistic, there is probably something like 20,000 real IROCs still left out there as most would be crushed by now.
I had the same thing happen to me when I was looking for another 3rd gen. The pictures and everything sounded great and when I got there, it was almost like a different car. This guy seemed really nice though so that helps. The guy I was dealing with who just completely changed his story after I drove 300 miles to go see it. I hope it works out! Not enough videos out there on these cars.
@@Youcallthesebagels_ meh I can get a really good paint job done for $2000. Then again I know a guy who has been painting cars professionally for 29 years. He re painted my Acura ITR just a few weeks ago. Just waiting on the warmer weather. Need the snow to melt and the first couple rainfalls of the season to happen so it can wash all the salt off the roads. I don't want to take any chances with this thing. I coated the entire underside with FluidFilm after we replaced all the mechanical/all new brake and fuel lines etc. It looks great now, identical to the one Speed Academy just got.
@@1ronco he doesn't look like the brightest bulb in the tree lol. Although he scored huge buying that unit for 900 bucks. $1500 for the car, likely get $1000 for the Honda Interceptor (1000cc?) I’d say either sell it to someone willing to do a full on restoration (the clean title and the story behind it may be an incentive) or part it out and even get some profit out off of it. It’s sad to see it go out this way but at least it’ll help others by keeping them on the road.
People who mislead buyers about the condition of a car to a guy traveling long distance to come buy a car are selfish pricks. The kind of work that car requires to be nice is not something that would ever make sense. It has to be a labor of love type thing
I love this car when I came out of high school in 87 A friend of my parents bought him a brand-new black and gold T top Have been in love with those for years
Dude you were meant to be on a tv show or RUclips all along! Your personality is sooo great and you’re such a nice guy and a peoples person. Keep up the AWESOME work my guy! You’re motivating a lot of ppl to get out and work on their cars and try to do some diy and I know you think you know you are, but you really probably don’t realize how many. Keep it up it man!
This was also my very first car! '86 IROC, black with t-tops and the 305 TPI. Got it when I turned 17, after saving for about a year. My parents matched whatever I could put down, and I think the car was $2500. Honestly it's a miracle I made it out of my teens alive. I'm really glad to see these cars getting attention again, I loved that thing.
I don't know if you read every comment however, I hope you keep these kind of projects going. I really enjoy seeing these older vehicles that have been abandoned restored as efficiently as possible.
He use to read and reply to a lot of the comments. Now days he is way to busy. I remember getting a reply to my comments when the channel was starting.
I've owned 6 Camaros over the years. My first was a '74 LT. It had a 350, 2 bbl and a turbo 350 auto. The next were a pair of '67s, an RS and a base model. Both needed work and I never got around to doing it. My first new Camaro was an '84 Z28, I ordered it new in '83. It had the 5.0 H.O., 5 speed, 4 wheel discs. The next was an '85 IROC Z, ordered in February 1985. It was a 5.0 TPI, auto, t-top, 4 wheel disc car. I bought an '87 5.7 TPI, 4 wheel disc car in '06 as a 2nd car.
The power trunk was a good idea from a engineering angle. The amount of air it caputures and pushes forward when slammed was hard on passengers. The soft touch allowed for slow depressure, no hurt ears.
Mine is still working great to this day but mine isn't stock I have a N/A 383 550hp planted in it with a 200 shot I'm close to 800hp but my camaro is a one owner full interior street car still
@@Guillotines_For_Globalists Classic vehicles do not have relief vents. Try gently closing a door on an air-cooled VW with door seals functioning as intended by the factory. It will not shut without nearly slamming the door shut.
The key is the RPO list. I bought an 88 IROC brand new. LB9, 5spd, G65, hardtop with 4 wheel disc brakes and the 16 inch wheels. There is a huge difference having a 3.45 posi rear.
My first car was an 86 IROC. I miss it dearly. To answer some things, I heard the electric pull down on the hatch was to keep people from slamming it which can cause the glass to break. The front and rear wheels have different offsets. Shame it's so rusty! ETA: I think you should do a mechanical restoration (the bare minimum), interior detail, do some sad burnouts with that weak drivetrain and sell it!
I had an '85 without the power pull down. If the doors were closed and windows up there was too much air pressure in the cabin when the hatch was closed, so it wouldn't latch half of the time without slamming it. The pull down was added to address this issue.
@@JDJD-mw9rr The 5.0 5spd IROCs were quick. I used to smoke 305/350 fbodies with my 5.0 mustang back then but somehow that gave me a run for my money. 85 TPI cars were quicker than the later ones as well.
@@Anthony-rv3hr My 86 was a 305 TPI. It never felt fast but I ate fox bodies for breakfast! I had a timing chain go bad and I first noticed when I lost a street race to a Taurus SHO (embarrassing). The next day the entire chain went. They used a nylon/aluminum cam gear on those 305s. The nylon was totally gone when I opened it up. Crossed my fingers that the pickup screen wouldn't get plugged up and went on with a new chain set.
As the owner of a Thirdgen I can tell you it's a love hate relationship with rust. Personally I'd love to have the car because mine is a t-top and I'm sick when it comes to buying rusty cars. Most people run from them but I don't. I know, I need help. I think it'd be cool to fix it up and go full resto-mod/street mod. No need to repair it back to stock. Weld in sheet metal patches, swap exterior panels, get your favorite playlist burned to CD or tape, and cruise in style. That car would look epically awesome sitting in a photo with mine. From classic rock to Vanilla Ice, we could grill out and do karaoke on RUclips live! Boom! Sounds like a plan. Call me! 🤣😂
A lot of what we could see on the sheet metal underneath was an underseal-like covering flaking off. There was a lot of rust for sure but I think there may yet be a useful thickness of steel left. We can always hope...
Have the underbody sandblasted first because then you know for sure how bad it truly is. Auto metal direct has a boatload of pannels for most cars. Especially those widely sold.
Not really, since a stand up guy wouldn't advertise a car as rust free and conveniently miss a huge rust hole in the door, rotten out fenders, and cancer also on the quarter panels. No way he missed all that. You'd have to be Ray Charles blind to not see it. I wouldn't have negotiated. It would have went something like this: "Thank you for your time, but as of now, I'm not interested sorry." and walked away.
@@TwentytenS4B8 Athough I agree with you. Maybe the seller wasn't a "car guy" just didn't know what the car was worth? Maybe thought what rust there was wasn't a big deal..? ... We're all looking at this as car guys knowing what is & isn't good Not everyone is that (car) savvy?
@@TwentytenS4B8 that's no where near rusted out. I've worked on 3rd gens 25+ yrs & have 8 currently. All running & has rust hear & there. Unless it's kept in a controlled environment they will rust. My friends 2020 ranger has rust & it's always washed
It's not THAT bad. I've saved far worse. I live in Western PA and on a quiet night you can hear the cars rust here. I have an '87 V6 T-top Camaro that was actually the exact car I had in high school that I accidentally found again a year and a half ago. It had a (rather poor) repaint at some point that I think may have slowed down the tin worm a bit. It has some floor issues like yours, but definitely salvageable. The tired (but will still smoke the right rear tire off) 2.8 leaks so much oil (also probably helped it from rusting more) that it leaves a smoke screen and a trail wherever it goes, so I'm about to swap it out for a 305 TPI (because it was cheap). SAVE THAT IROC! Such cool cars. Great video!
My first car was an 85 V6. I toasted the engine in a year and a half because I could have sworn I was a formula 1 driver. Funny story in that car. I raced a kid I knew down our local quarter mile spot who had a RS with a 305. I was sure I was gonna lose, but I didn't. Got him by a fender. We pulled over and he wanted to go again because "he had his headers shut off." There was clearly something wrong with that kid and that car.
I hope you read the comments, there are a bunch of awesome tips. Wheel dollies would be good, a couple of guys explained the latch and the wheel offsets. You should totally restore this car and take us through everything. I have seen Emelia Hartford completely rebuild cars. She put a Honda engine into a Prius. If she can do it, you of course could do it. Get some sheet metal and cut out the pieces to redo the floor and all the other areas. We will watch it. Do it DO IT Do it
Part it out and junk what's left. If you try to restore it you'll end up putting $20,000 in parts and paint plus many thousands of dollars of labor into it and end up with the nicest $15,000 1988 IROC Camaro in town. Live and learn.
I clicked this video seriously thinking it was an Iroc I've been after for 25 years lol. Same color and all. 1988 Camaro Iroc that was bought and went from the show room straight to "a place" and its been there since. Engine was pulled wrapped and put on a shelf, plastic from factory and stickers never removed and the car was used for clean car audio demo's (nothing butchered) in the same place for a good 8 years before going in climate controlled storage to sit. IT HAS 19 MILES ON IT! I can't wait to own it! Anyway good score!
Nice. I had an IROC 305 Tpi stick shift. The wheels say "front" and "rear" because they have different offsets. The only problem with buying an old 3rd gen now is parts availability. Yes, there's a ton of aftermarket reproduction parts, but there's still some stuff that's gonna be unobtanium.
Not really that hard, everything powertrain is available. About 60% of the interior is reproduced. Its not a 69 Camaro that you can build new from a catalog. There is alot of small companies that make parts for them, GM authorized reproduction for the major wear items are starting to show up. Now with the current supply chain issues some things take forever to get to you but that is true for all cars.
Yes and alot of the aftermarket reproduction parts are poor quality. I think fenders, doors and floor panels is available but not rocker panels or trunk panels.
I love your videos. Never use the rocker panels to lift a 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird. Use the frame instead. The front fenders lower mounting brackets are always smashed because people put the floor jack there. I see you did that in the video so take a look at those brackets.....I bet those are bent and smashed up to the floor I believe the complete floor and structure is the same on Camaro and Firebird. They went down the same assembly line when they where built. Save it if you can. These 80s classics are rare these days! I love my 88 Gta.
Had a tire shop lift on the fender mounts on my 89 once... Guy was fired on the spot. I never got it right until I took off the front clip for my LS swap and was able to fix it to my liking.
He should know this he’s owned a GTA in the past but hope he reads your comment before picking up another thirdgen. Imagine if this car actually was in great shape, and on the second day he owned it completely mangled the pinch welds :(
I didn't think much of Dave at first when I heard about the rust, till he started talking. What a nice guy . I can say he genuinely did not know the rust was there .
Love the video! I just picked up an 88 iroc convertible w/47k original miles. It had been sitting in a storage unit for about 5 years and I legit only paid $1k for it. I put in a new battery and drove it home. I didn't realize just how lucky I was until watching this video. Not an ounce of rust or dings whatsoever. Only thing wrong with it is a little bit of paint fade.
I would definitely restore this beats Alex , come on man you got this , you haven't done a full restoration series yet so why not this ,as you even got it for 1500$ are you kidding me and clean title !!!! mannn !!!! I'm all in for this thing these are so getting special as each day passes , I'm in mad love with these F-body Gm's super cool and unique !!! please Alex save this baby !!!! STAY SAFE , TC and God bless !!!!
From what I've seen, it's going to cost 8 to 9K to replace the rotted out floor pans. And another 2 to 3K just to get it mechanically sound with today's prices. Fuel tank will need dropped and cleaned and fuel pump replaced to get rid of varnish., All the brake lines are heavily rusted and would need to be replaced for safety sake., We don't know if the engine is any good or the transmission for that matter., All the brakes need done rotors, calipers, pads, hoses on the front, wheel cylinders, brake hardware and shoes on the back. And that's just to get it drivable safely. It's a good parts car and that's it.
I didn't think the rust was that bad tbh. Yes it's rusty. As the others have said. A resto only worth it if the end justifies the means. This iroc maybe too far gone. I'm not sure Alex would have the time to do a full on resto...
I lived in the States for 4 years. Imported my 97 RS Camaro back to Australia. Currently planning a full rebuild including V8 6 speed and IRS conversion. Wish I had your knowledge and experience to guide the build!
@@jimcatanzaro7808 Why do Americans worship guns? That’s a better question. From a tyrannical government perhaps? Well, the government is far better equipped than any American. So why the obsession?
That’s a far cry from driving the CL65 through several states in the freezing cold, with potential disaster looming at every mile marker, but it was fun to see an 80s IROC. I always dreamed of adding the IROC wheels and ground effects for my 87, but a blown head gasket that I never got around to led to it sitting outside in Wisconsin for too long, resulting in worse rust in all the same areas yours has on the exterior.
I have an 89 that's in great condition. Mine has T-tops, the tuned port 305, 5 speed manual transmission, & runs great. Mine is completely rust free. I went through my teenage years when these IROC's first came out, i fell in love with this bodystyle back in those days. I always wanted one. I found mine quite some time ago & it's not going anywhere!!
Living in the rust belt (Minnesota) gives you a slightly different perspective on the pervasiveness of the decay. It is in every single area of the vehicle. Rot is hard to overcome when it is this deep. Get it running and part it out. It would be hard to watch a ton of money get sunk into this particular example of an IROC.
After you got burned on the rusted out trans-am, I totally agree with you for not wanting to give more than $1500. You definitely need the rolling dollys. It would have made moving this car a lot easier.
I've been looking for videos showing people working on the original motor of these cars, and it seems like nowadays everyone just rips the engine out in favor of an LS. Watching a mechanical restoration would make me, and I'm assuming many others, incredibly happy!
The mid 80's IROC Z28 Camaro is by far my personal favorite car. Never got to own one but knew a few that did. I really like the body lines and the body style. Sure hope you can restore this one back to its formal glory without sinking too much into it. This one looks straight. However, the rusting is a huge issue.
I love those cars. My first car was a 87 trans am firebird 5 speed with t tops, in 2003 mind you. Besides running out of gas on the regular, and the t-tops leaving a pond in the back seat in the winter, some amazing memories. I always loved the irocs with its very similar body style
After the 1997 C43 AMG that you briefly owned, this is the second car you've featured that I also own. Except that my 87 Camaro irocZ has the 5.7 engine with T-tops. GM offered the power trunk option due to fear of the heavy weight of the glass rear hatch breaking upon closing.
When you first picked this up I thought you’d gotten a sweet deal -maybe needing at little work but nonetheless, a neat piece of classic car history. With that being said, you were right about offering a lower price than the owner was asking. I’m impressed you got the motor to break free, but when you dropped that oil filter my heart sank. You took a risk and your automotive sense was right on the money. Piecemeal is good and parting it out may be the kindest thing you could do for the old thing. This legend isn’t ever gonna run again, not in the shape it’s in now.
I would do a video or two on getting it running, test drive and then a series of videos on how to part out a car. You have the space to dismantle the care and store the parts in your space. Love your channel!
Saddened this car ended up being sooooooo cancerous!! I know you’ll assess it and make the right decision as to what to do with it, even as a parts car. Looking forward to seeing the series you create out of it!!
Had an 87 Iroc ttop 350 police auction drug runner car. So much fun back in the 90s. Great in a straight line. really fast. sucked in corners, spun with no warning several times. Still miss it. Was a great looking car. Good luck!!!
I have a 86 Trans Am that has been sitting for 5 years now. Was going to be my project car, but life changed. Wish I knew you were looking for a thirdgen, would have loved for you to take my car and build it up.
The power latch may have been a safety feature because of the size of the rear window. If you slam it hard it can create a lot of pressure. I had a car a while back that the front windows went down slightly because of the size of the boot lid. 👍👍
Born in 80, in 1987 a friends dad in my cul de sac was a Chevy salesman and for a little while had an IROC just like this one that I got to ride in. I thought this was such a cool color. He also drove a burgundy over tan for a while. I think that's my favorite, or black over silver. I also still have that police k-5 blazer
You should probably try to save this. You have the talent and it would be a cool video series. Third gens are becoming rare, and have always had great style! I agree with blasting the underside, see where you stand. Could always park it out behind your shop and use it for parts on a better bodied third gen. I have to say, I’ve looked forward to your vids weekly for a long time now, when I saw the iroc I got super excited. If you junk this one defn find another.
I would have killed for a restomod 3rd gen, but I'm happy to have a near-perfect 4th gen now. I'd really like to see a video on the differences from generation to generation, and for the salt to go away so I can bring mine out of hibernation.
PLEASE KEEP IT you haven’t tackled a full on restoration on the channel yet & I think it’d be a cool project to have on the side that you can work on little by little. Of course get everything else settled first lol
I love that factory color with the beige interior. I have the same, just from '85, originally with LG4+700R4, but swapped to 350TPI + T5 WC. The hard part is to get replacement for the interior plastic pieces, especially here in Hungary :) Can't wait to see this beauty running again :)

I know this video is a few months old, but you do not jack these cars up on the pinch welds. Use the torque boxes in the back and the front subframe along the trans tunnel. One of the main causes of rust and body damage is jacking on the pinch welds. You bend the fender mount, which bulges the fender and can possibly cause issues with the door. You can also break the seam open where the floor, toe board, and inner rocker connects allowing moisture to get in, rusting out the front corners of the floors. It is the most common area for rust on these cars, driver front corner where everyone improperly jacks.
New subscriber here. Kinda random, but I love that you separate all your videos into playlists and don't just randomly throw them about your channel. I for one appreciate that a ton. My second dream car of all time is a 3rd gen Camaro. My first dream car is a late 60s early 70s Chevelle SS.
19:24 Dude! I need that Interceptor. That's a bike from my youth. My cousin had the tariff-dodging 700cc version. I loved that colour scheme and the tan textured engine sidecovers.
I had a '90 IROC Z (the last year for the IROC trim) with the 5.7L (350CI). It was the first great car I ever owned. had it for 9 years. Traded it in for a new 4th Gen '99 Camaro SS. Good luck with your project.
Alex, you know there is no such thing as a rust free car from 1988 in the Midwest . It's hard enough to find one in the South. Evey guy in the 80's seemed to have had this type of car in NC. $1500 was a great deal if it runs , the engine is ok. Don't feel too bad.
This one definitely is going to be a money pit! I’m very curious about the condition of the motor, but when it is any good, I would sell the car with a little profit! Loved the video as always, Alex! 👍😀👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I graduated high school in 1990, I wanted of these so bad. I came back from the in 1993, and almost bought one similar to this one. It had 3 options, the 350, the t-tops, and the upgraded factory radio. I drove it and it rode like a tank. Wide turn radius, stiff suspension, and wasn’t as powerful as I thought it would be. It was good deal price wise- I just didn’t have fun driving it. Good luck with yours, I’m eager to see how it turns out.

It appears you didn't watch the video. The rust on the underside made this car junk. Alex isn't going the mess with that mess. It will never be drivable again unless the complete underside was replace.

245/50/16 stock tire size. Front and rear offset different. On GTA wheels it's easier to tell...the front 'lip' is deeper so it has a deeper dished look. Was done for turning clearance up front. 16mm offset if I recall and rear is 0mm offset.

I agree with many of the comments below. The old saying looks good from afar but it’s far from good is true. After you found a hole in the door and the rust in the quarters, you probably should have walked away. Did you buy this thing for yourself or did you buy it to flip? If you bought it to flip it, yeah you’ve got an uphill battle for the restoration/repairs. As I looked at the other cars you’ve got in your shop, it would not appear as though it’s going to be a tough job either way. Your shop has the space, the tools and the staff to put it together the way you want it.
I have that exact Chevy Matchbox car here in the UK. Got it when I was a kid probably circa 1987 too. Only got the box of cars down from the loft recently for my girls to play with. As for the car, I would part it out, but I'd like to see a video of getting the engine running and seeing if any of that vintage security stuff is still working.... And just as I type the above you say your gonna get the engine running. Excellent
about 8 years ago, I bough this exact same car, color, condition. that rear electric latch is stupid. BUT, when I started cleaning the carpets in the trunk, I removed them. and glued down to the floor was the BUILD SHEET! in amazing condition Used a heating gun to soften the glue and it came off like buttah!
The original reason for the power hatch pull down; the convex concave hatch window needed to be slammed and sometimes shattered. PPG eventually perfected the glass so it would not shatter. Thanks for the video, and confirmation on my purchase of a '91 17k mile GTA from Florida for $2800. Due to being sunbaked; replaced spoiler, leather. Whole car needs repaint, buy no rust period. Know the feeling, my heart sank for ya'. What will you sell the power hatch for, mine recently stopped working.
That car reminds me of a 1985 Camaro Iroc Z28 that I bought brand new in 1985. It was one of my dream cars. No problems with the car but it was stolen twice out of my jobs parking lot ! Later a County police officer ran a stop sign, boardsiding the car and totaling it.
Block chucks and back up the trailer, if you ever have a comealong failure lol. Once you get to blocks go to harbor freight and get a comalonge too finishing up the pull, on to trailer.....
"Push it! Pull it! Tow it to Golf Mill Ford!" Supposively this color on the Camaro is the same on the Firebird. Pontiac calls it "Flame Red Metallic" Fyi: coming from a GTA owner and fellow fbody enthusiast from what I know from the factory the GTAs with the 350/ttop combo was only available in 1989. I would part it out for sure. After having fun with it that is. We both know putting 12K into it will not be worth it in the long run.

In England an 80's car in that condition would be considered pretty good. I would personally go for a recommission of it and have an usable Iroc. Just do what is necessary to get it through the next year or two.

LSC, you need to get those wheel dollies for your shop. That way if a car won't move just jack it up and place it on them so you can slide the vehicle to where you want it to go.
Sometimes hitting the center of the wheel with a heavy hammer& a block of wood shocks the brakes loose.

I don't think he has a place to put a full time trailer right now.
If I lived within an hour drive of a u-haul place, I would probably not own a car trailer. A two day rental is cheaper than one tire, you don't need to repaint or replace deck boards, and you won't have a spouse complain about how it looks in the yard.

I’d say either sell it to someone willing to do a full on restoration (the clean title and the story behind it may be an incentive) or part it out and even get some profit out off of it.
I love the way the IROC Camaro looks, it just screams 80's/90'a and thats why I love it.

A 80's kid dream car!!!
Not only is it the midwest but its also a third gen, great combo if you love rust! Thankfully my 84 bird doesnt have any.
The power trunk was a good idea from a engineering angle. The amount of air it caputures and pushes forward when slammed was hard on passengers. The soft touch allowed for slow depressure, no hurt ears.
Um, crack open a window before slamming shut the ?trunk?

@@Chris_A_ This Camaro is from the 1980s unlike a Beetle from the 1960s.
Weirdly my 2008 Lexus has the same kind of electric pull down thing, and its an ordinary steel lid. No idea why they thought it was necessary.
I had a 86 IROC too. 5sp with the carbed 305 lol. All the 350s had the auto
K5 blazers/ GMC JIMMY'S are my all time favorite truck!! Had 2. Hope to get another one some day!!!
AMD has no parts for this car. Maybe a hood and a hood scoop. Need a bunch more than that for the resurection.
Classic industries is the go to on these cars. They have quarter panels for under $150
Dave is definitely a stand up guy.
Even though this Camaro has it's issues, it seems like a great project for the channel.

Funny story in that car. I raced a kid I knew down our local quarter mile spot who had a RS with a 305. I was sure I was gonna lose, but I didn't. Got him by a fender.
@@joakimsoderberg8046 I have 8 3rd gens & parts are available if you know where to go.
I love your videos. Never use the rocker panels to lift a 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird. Use the frame instead. The front fenders lower mounting brackets are always smashed because people put the floor jack there. I see you did that in the video so take a look at those brackets.....I bet those are bent and smashed up to the floor
I believe the complete floor and structure is the same on Camaro and Firebird. They went down the same assembly line when they where built.

To me it did not seem too bad underneath it obviously needs some work but it didn't seem to be rotten through
I agree needs to be a different color anyway.

The power latch may have been a safety feature because of the size of the rear window. If you slam it hard it can create a lot of pressure. I had a car a while back that the front windows went down slightly because of the size of the boot lid. 👍👍

What a score for Dave on that storage unit!👍🔥 I was really hoping to see more video on that Honda Interceptor! I think it might have been a 700/750?
Maybe a 500? They made 1000 too.
VRF700 F
I know even less about motorcycles than cars!
Dave
@@gs1100ed It's a 700/750. It's a VFR, probably 1986. The 500's were the older VF style.
@@Bill_Hartnett Thanks!
Yes was hoping for a close up of the bike....
A definite money pit. Just part it out!
Nobody cares about that engine but you! Gtfo here
I graduated high school in 1990, I wanted of these so bad.
I had a 71 RS split bumper, 350 z28 cam Holly 650 spread bore and,,, an 80 3.8 liter,,, at the same time,, you can imagine which a loved and which was a mom and pop got me to work and back,,,,, this was in the early 90's
Alex, this is small fries for you bro….you could run circles around this project….👍🏻💪🏻🇺🇸
It appears you didn't watch the video. The rust on the underside made this car junk. Alex isn't going the mess with that mess. It will never be drivable again unless the complete underside was replace.
In order to do a quality resto you first need good bones. This car doesn't even have the skeleton.
What a shame. Beautiful car, always loved that color. Definitely worth more than $1500 in parts.
Oh man I love these cars. Styling reminds me of 80's video games. Love all the different cars on this channel. V12 Mercedes - Iroc
BEAUTIFUL 😍 paint..
I Purchased an 87 Iroc last year 20th anniversary convertible for $700 same color but my paint is oxidized.
You can easily get back the $1500 by selling the nose and rad support fender interior wheels and so much more.. keep engine and trans if good and search for a good clean Roller.
I work for a Uhaul just a little advice for low sitting cars grab you some wood to put at the bottom of the ramps and under the front tires to keep it from rubbing the bumper.. just think it might be easier then the jack.. love the videos man and love this car. My dream car is a 1967 Shelby Gt 500..
I don't think you did all of that damage.
I think this has happened on other rentals.
Repeat after me: I will walk away from any 80's car that was abandoned.
I will walk away form any 80's car that was abandoned...
Are you going to give it a full engine rebuild? I would love to watch a video of you rebuilding it
Not this one. But eventually I'll do a full build
245/50/16 stock tire size. Front and rear offset different. On GTA wheels it's easier to tell...the front 'lip' is deeper so it has a deeper dished look. Was done for turning clearance up front. 16mm offset if I recall and rear is 0mm offset.
Cool ride. My father bought an 88 Iroc Z convertible back in 88. Still has it. Has around 14,000 original miles.
Would love to see a full restoration. Go for it👍🏽
Get it running (if the engine is good) drive it around and have fun then part out. Unless someone is willing to invest a lot of money on a frame off she's seen her day unfortunately. Thanks for sharing 👍
I agree
I’d let Dave defend me if I was on trial. His demeanour and personality screams “lawyer”
Hope someone puts money on your books so you can get commissary.
The $1500 bucks is more money than Dave makes in 3 months as a "lawyer"
Hey guy im from south africa qualified mechanin since 1999 and i love your videos im addicted. Recently let go from my job things not good in my country im about to forfeit payments on my 2007 ford ranger dont know what im gonna do for wheels but im gonna do my best to kerp following your channel you inspire me
i use to have a iroc rechipped it and it came alive way better then i thought it would had a lot of fun in that car black and gold did not even have a ding in it when i sold it drove it for 5 years and made good money off it . next i am building a 79 z28 rs t top have 90% of the parts for it with 2 extra z28's hard tops for parts . got a stroked 454 with a 02xx trans for it got everything for free so far even got new custom interior for it out of one of the hard tops . all i need is paint supplies and a few nick nacks for it also have a t-10 4 speed with new fly wheel and 12 inch clutch for the 454
Growing up my father had a 1989 Iroc-Z.... Absolutely love them!
So glad that every car person no matter their age will still buy matchbox and hotwheels. Also as an ML owner it was nice to see that getting some camera time again as well as doing some work as the MLs love to work hard.
"Push it! Pull it! Tow it to Golf Mill Ford!"
Supposively this color on the Camaro is the same on the Firebird. Pontiac calls it "Flame Red Metallic"
Fyi: coming from a GTA owner and fellow fbody enthusiast from what I know from the factory the GTAs with the 350/ttop combo was only available in 1989. You could of got the 350 in the Formula with ttops in all years, but not for the base Bird or Trans Am.
Great video btw!
Man That Third Gen Iroc-Z Brings Back Memories, Such A Cool Car For The Time, I So Remember Those Being Brand New, One Of My First Jobs At A Local Chevrolet Dealership, I Worked As A Lot Porter, Detail, Under Coating Guy, While Still In School, Back Then.. LoL
