    I enjoyed seeing the stock certificate history. From one hoarder to another: The real value of the building is the space. Give the stock certificates to a museum, frame a few for yourself if you really want to keep a few. Give the doors away to someone that will use them. Give most of that stuff away to someone that will use it, so it does not feel like you are throwing it away. Yes, it all has some value but not very much. Remember, the real value is the space you need for the future and that is most important. Stuff is a burden. Get it gone and it will relieve your mind.

    Love seeing the life and times of Ike. People can collect a lot of stuff during their lifetime. I am stuck with several generations of stuff and I have donated, sold, or just tossed about 3/4 of it. Nobody wants silver anymore, unless it's got history, and finding that person that wants it will be difficult. I saw an entire room full of silver be bought for pennies just to empty out the room. The new owner smelted it for the silver and other metals.

  • @stevenhovinga6584
    @stevenhovinga6584 4 месяца назад +1

    I agree, yeah its old stuff and to most ppl its just junk. But it is fascinating looking through it and thinking what it was like back in the days when it was important to the owners. I think it would be cool to take some of the silver items and clean them up to see just how awesome they were in their prime. Its great that you want to preserve these bits of history and hopefully if you don't have a use for them. You can get them to people that will appreciate them. Very cool video... I'd be up to exploring other boxes as you make your way through the sea of stuff... ✌

    Pods for storage outside the door load everything that your friend left you into that pod container for a month while you organize and build more shelving inside your building. That's the way I did it. It worked out really good. Just an idea. Thanks for the video. Do not throw anything away.

    You have no idea how excited I got when I saw the share certs and you said you'd open some of the boxes... right up my street! Looks like all the silver in the boxes was silver plate/EPNS but I loved the bowl in the second box all the same... but I wouldn't want to be polishing it all the time. Now I'm off to see if I can track down some history of those names on the Lumber share certs, that should keep me out of mischief this evening...

    A PT boat is a Patrol Torpedo boat. Others with a standing position might be a motor launch or even a landing craft.
    The silver, if it's got a hallmark it's best, 925 is Stirling and EPNS is electro plated nickel silver. If things have made in China they're priceless usually quite literally 😂
    But as you say there's history there and there's people/collectors out there that would love to have it.
    Could you sell the doors to a reclamation yard?

    Isaac, A "PT" Boat was a Navy acronym for a "Pursuit Torpedo" boat. These were wooden hulled boats with very large Packard engines built for high speed attacks on enemy ships and recon work. Small numbers of them would attack enemy ships at high speed and launch torpedoes from deck mounted launchers at enemy ships. They were too fast for a battle ship to catch and pretty effective. They also had machine guns for defense against air attacks and enemy small arms fire. The Germans and the Japanese had their own versions of these boats too but neither sides were nearly as fast as ours. Our PT's would run about 40 knots which for the day was quite impressive. John F. Kennedy served on one during WW2. The famous PT 109.

Even one box at a time. When someone passes away. There is a new life started. Someone may be very interested in some of these items. If it can make someone happy. Sell it to them. Good luck. Huge job.

    Very interesting, adventurous scavenger hunt! Thanx !
    Do some research, there's some real value there !! Take good pictures of each item, do some googling in your off time. OR, find some nice librarian, hire her to do your research? Or find a good assessor, but that will cost too. Those doors can have value too, if not for remodel, then for art, folks are turning them into wall picture frames, & decorations... Just takes time, but there IS VALUE ! You understand online auctions, just takes good pictures & a little research, you might be very surprised (& some of what you showed, someone has already done that!). Good luck !

    John L. Roper is a fairly famous post-Civil War lumber tycoon of NC. Canceled stock shares aren't typically worth very much (companies typically issued thousands of them), but they are still very cool. You might want to contact a gentleman named Bill Barber, who wrote a book on John L. Roper. He lives somewhere in NC.

    The John L. Roper Lumber Company was only one of the many lumber mills that operated during that era but led the way in building railroads, organizing the lumberman from the three states into the North Carolina Pine Association, and rebranding what had been considered an inferior product into lumber that dominated the market as "North Carolina Pine."

    Isaac, I once saw a program where a person found some old shares in a book. The company was no longer in business but was bought up by another company, and another. The shares were still good !! and because the shares had split (doubled) many times, they were worth MUCH more that stated. Maybe you should check into finding someone who could check and see if those are worth anything. You are the legal owner of those shares ! Maybe Isaac, maybe!
