Genuinely one of the funniest things that I've ever seen you do Ike, is driving the Jeep down that dirt road yelling out the window! Great, funny stuff man!
I laughed so hard (yaw-yip-getouttahere-yaww) during Ike's ride down (yaw-yip-yip) the driveway to (getgoin-yaww-yipyip) make sure all the animals (yayayipyip-yo-yaw) were gone before testing the (yawwww-yip) murder mower. I can hardly type this without laughing!
I have a jdm 2.5 swapped Subaru impreza station wagon that has a lawnmower installed to the spare tire well in the trunk. Not that anyone asked, just thought I'd share. Its a junker with issues... but if for some reason you want an oddball like that, I'd say you can have it for free. Otherwise its just going to return to nature.
Nah, cleaning out the attic of a hoarder house in the middle of summer with no ventilation was a much stupider idea. That video still haunts me, lol. This was fun to watch though, thanks Ike!
Just need to angle the blade back about 40-44° and it should work much more effectively/efficiently without bending.. but it's not necessarily a bad idea, just needs a little adjustment.. you're the man Ike!!🤘🤙
I would suggest you make a mower out of a rear axle mounted with the yoke down and put a blade on it so it's just like a lawnmower, put a hitch on it from the shock mounts and a boom from your receiver to step it out to the side. No engine needed !
If the blade was on a pretty decent angle(like 45 degree sweep towards the back at outside,I think your idea may actually work decent. The grass needs to be able to roll off instead of just being straight and piling up. Same principal as angling a snowplow. Future experiment for science purposes?
the angled bade wouldnt need to be any stronger than what he currently has. the bending came from the flat impact and subsequent clogging up. if it were angled, it should shed any clogging, and have much less stress against it.
Not sure how accessible they are down south, but here in the Midwest a ground drive sickle bar mower behind your jeep would probably be pretty effective and cheap!
oh man, what a fun adventure! Gets the creative juices flowing. Iteration #2: "I Welded It Myself" build a small bushog to hang off the side of that bar, with the Drag Rail motor on it spinning a blade. (most any riding lawn mower lower deck would work). No PTO required. Iteration #3: put hydraulics on it to raise it, and extend/retract the bar. Iteration #4: turbocharge the Jeep
what you could do is get a push mower off of marketplace for cheap and weld/bolt it to the blade from this video and reinforce it. great video love the channel
at the beginning I was sure you would attach a lawn mower to the back of the jeep, and after watching the video, I think that if you had a lawn tractor motor on a frame mounted to the hitch you could probably use belts to run side mowers, maybe use mower decks from the tractor too but chop out the front so they could eat properly...just a thought
When I was young, riding in my parents car, I would imagine a blade sticking out cutting the grass in the ditch. I'm 58 now and have closure finally thanks to Isaac! Thanks.
So, I've done the math on that before... and depending on a little fudge for the actual mower blade diameter and what the governor is actually holding the engine rpm at, you need to be going 50-60mph to get the blade to be moving the same speed as a pushmower blade. I suspect that if you could maintain that speed you wouldn't have the clearing issue, but that could possibly be fixed by angling the blade forward or backward and it would be easy enough to deal with the blade height and angle problem (use a pin to set the height, like an adjustable height hitch, and let it pivot on the pin and then put an adjustable arm from the other side to the bumper to set the angle. A larger and longer vehicle, preferably WITHOUT a cloth top would be safer, maybe a pickup truck (that white chevy you passed a few times ;-) ), a longer vehicle should be more resistant to the torque load causing it to try to turn. Yes, I've put some thought into this, I've thought about trying it with my Cummins Dodge (MUCH heavier, should be MUCH less prone to trying to turn in from the load) but I didn't have a good place to test it. Honestly, find 2 old push mowers, add go-kart or minibike tires to them, mount them on a similar arm and then drag them through at about 15mph and you'll have better results and you should still get your mile run done in 4minutes.
I’ve got a redneck bush hog I made from an old axle and some rebar, it’s definitely more effective I need to make a video of it. This was definitely interesting to watch
🤣🤣🤣 you really made me laugh when you first drove up and down the road shouting,,,it was like you had something sharp stuck in your seat and when you went over bumps you were howling 🤣🤣
Looks like you could use about a 25 degree sweep on that blade to help the oncoming brush sweep the cling-ons off the blade. Otherwise, nice crazy design!
Seemed to work well enough. Maybe put a small Honda clone on the end of a belt driven brush blade setup. That way you can drive slowly around the obstacles. No need for a heavy guard of course
My thought even was using the rear diff from a car, use belt pulleys to change the ratio so you don't have to drive quickly to make the blades spin quickly.
as someone who grew up in a family that just made stuff to take care of a problem, theres a couple of simple options for you here. the first one is to just swing the blade back at about a 45 degree, so that instead of a straight chop, it sorta slices. and the angle would also shed the stuff that was hanging up and clogging the blade there. the second option is to build a simple sickle blade similar to what a tractor uses, but instead of a PTO, just drive the blade off of a little wheel that rolls along. more engineering there but ive seen many farmers over the years building stuff like that. 40 years in farm country high plains, you see some STUFF haha
I wonder if you could find one of those old push type lawn mowers or a couple of them and come up with some kind of arm with some way to make the blades rotate ? lol
With the warning in the begging, i half expected a set of actual lawn mowers to be attached to the trailer hitch. lol. but I absolutely love the "I have an idea, and we are gonna see if it works or not"
Look for an old Sears Suburban sickle bar attachment. I’m sure you can rig up a small engine to a towable platform. You could even use a stripped down old lawn tractor. Use a 12 volt linear actuator to tilt it up or out.
It worked better than I expected... actually after the beginning warning, part of me expected some kind of serious injury. Glad there wasn't any. Much Love Brother 🌎☯️🌏☯️🌍
Also Ike look up converting a truck differential to a ground driven mower you could build an off set hitch and pull behind your jeep. The faster you go the faster the blade turns.
From what I could see, it worked pretty good. Maby not a surgically clean job, but it did cut/uproot the undergrowth! So I give it an 8.5 out of a 10. It was also a lot quicker than running a mower down through there; and more entertaining to boot! 👍👍👍
Made for a great video, loved the stuffed animals being mowed over scene. Would it be possible for you, John and Charles to revisit the racing mower? Happy riding!
As you were building it I was thinking "This has got to be a joke. He's smarter than that!" Then, when you said how stupid it was, I was like, he gets it now. There's a reason that lawn tractors use multiple short spinning blades instead of one big one.
When you were coming back up the trail before you started cutting it almost felt like you had terrets the way you kept yelling, hilarious 🤣 keep up the great content brother!
I live in a area where they grow sugar cane, still find old manual cane cutter blades in old farm sheds (think grim reaper blade) They would be perfect, or use a sharpened flattened car spring, they make good blades but take forever to bevel to a cutting edge, but hold that edge well.
Not a failure! It is called an "experiment" From what was shown the concept can work. Better trussing, thicker blades or multiple ones like a man's shaving blade...OR try making a reciprocating blase like a hedge blade...and just drive slower....Again, not a failure for those who might have thought of doing the same.. you go Isaac! DVD:)
There's a bit of room for improvement 😂 but good starting point 👍🏻. Could do with making an extra long hedge cutter blade on a larger scale with an engine. And maybe hydraulic lifter or winch for the blade 🤔. But good watching 👍🏻
What about trying to mount sickle bar mower blades to the flat stock. That way blades can be replaced, they sharper so would cut easier and possibly won't make ya Jeep try to go sideways with not having to go as fast. Just a thought
Reminds me of the time my cousin,,, extended a blade from his lawnmower deck to mow under fencing no guards,,,he was a beer drinking Vietnam vet with many ideas.. Miss him.
I applaud your enthusiasm for trying, but wouldn't it be easier to ask John to borrow the Kubota and if he doesn't have a grass desk, rent one for the day?

It wasn't a completely stupid idea. It was along the lines of a bush hog blade. I would suggest angling the blade towards the back sharpening the blade more, putting a skid on the very end of it so that can ride against the ground so the blade isn't dragging right against the ground and put a pivot point with a system to where you can raise and lower the blade. Also have the blade up, start going and then drop the blade once you get up to a decent speed.
Ike, angle the blade back at a 45 degree angle. Not only will it allow the blade to slice through the weeds more efficiently but the weeds will likely not hang up on the blade. Not a stupid idea it just needs a little refinement.
Revision 2.0 idea: make a frame that can mount to the front of the jeep, on it's center line. Bolt to that one of the field bush hog decks powered by a heavy duty industrial electric motor running off a few car batteries. That way you can drive forward at a reasonable speed, and line up your cuts. The bush hog units are proven to work, and reliable.
Perhaps a 30 degree angle outward to let the blade free it self from harvest? :) Stupid idea? Perhaps. Funny? Yes! If no one tries something new, we all would still live in caves.
Just keep going. It’s engineering itself . Once the blade “settles in” to an angle or curve, make a new, thicker one that matches it. I don’t think it’s gonna cut thin stuff very well but it looks like it might clean up that tall, thick stuff ok. You may be able to slow down a little too.
I love how Ike says what a terrible idea this is.... then IMMEDIATELY goes right back to it haha
