That was a great bargain Issac, the low price that you paid for the truck almost guaranteed to be worth it in parts alone. Very interesting video, I'll be watching for more on your Duece and a half fleet!
15:00 heater box, insulated sleeper cab. when driving and pulling a trailer load from one base to another, they do not stop to rest, they rotate driving crew's. same as how one guy can drive away solo for 60 hours without crashing tho they rotate drivers regardless of each being able to drive the whole path individually. only fuel up's, unless they have a fuel trailer as a second wheel with a trailer behind it, that has a quick connect fitting at the tail gate for power and fuel transfer 3k gallon.
It says SFOR on the side. It means Stabilisation Force. It might have been used in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Bosnian war. There was also IFOR (Implementation Force) both IFOR and SFOR were a NATO operation. I think it has a separate heater system in the back. Cool rig!
Excellent Video Issac :) nice got Duec 6×6 also fixing it up too and nice bought 2 them ! I remember them ones made Chevrolet in London Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 a farmer had one but made in dump truck his was 1945 year !
Those old deuce's will just about run on crude oil 😂. I had a neighbor with kne who would burn anything. Old gas, kerosene, diesel, bio diesel, etc. He'd just dump it in and go
@isaacitllbefine7231 It's hydro locked. Pull the injectors, then turn the engine with the fuel shut off. Fuel, water, or coolant will come out. Reconnect injectors and start it up.
That is awesome Welcome to the deuce and a 1/2 family. If you need new parts or any spare parts. Go to big Mike's motor pool. He'll have the windows and just about anything you need. M35A 2's and a 3's will fit each other's parts.
I think that was someone's bugout vehicle ... rope, shovel, cots, shooting targets, more. On the outside of the box is a cap with a screw on cover - that's likely an external A/C plugin, the disconnect and breaker box on the inside of the box is to provide power to the inside of the box. I think that front diff can be unlocked by pulling a hub off one front wheel - a friend of mine had an old military boom truck, that's how he unlocked it so he could drive it on the road without damaging the drive train. You need to check the rear diffs too - if front is locked, the rears are probably locked too. That's a great score.
Thats cool man. Ive seen a couple awesome campers made outta these. They both had to buy or build the back you already have it. Pretty cool tough choice to part it out or not. But it can suck up a ton o cash before you know it.
Dude it has s full on apartment on the back with fresh air generator and power with 20 amp breakers. You could live in it 😂 it's super cool you got a few hundred bucks in targets and cool cotts for camping in the truck, it could be a nice dry storage shed , or even a little hang out spot mancave
Another suggestion on RUclips go to tactical repair. He will show you how to fix the starter.Sometimes it just needs the connectors Cleaned Both inside and out I had the same problem with mine. And once I did that, it worked fine.
The engen is locked up from sitting probably pull the injectors and putt a little brake fluid in each cylinder to free it up get the engen turning over by hand first
just something about the old military vehicles , the history they tell, not to mention its probably worth $1075 in scrap :) would make an amazing offroad campervan :)
Nice score! Not sure, but those torsos look like ballistic gel molds. Kevin's buddy, Steve Meyers (This Week with Cars) has on like that he's using for camping. His business also rebuilds vehicles as campers. My sons buddy has 2 also, bit of work, big parts, but fun off road too... Good luck.
yep, i went back and looked...they torsos have the tabs to clamp them to whatever for when you pour (i guess you use a flat sheet of something-all the torsos Ive seen were just flat back. Although maybe if he separated them the inside one was a back? Anyways im glad i saw this comment, i was wondering what those were.
It wouold be great to see thehistory of it. FYI - The Stabilization Force (SFOR) was a NATO-led multinational peacekeeping force deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Bosnian War. SFOR was established in Security Council Resolution 1088 on 12 December 1996 and succeeded the Implementation Force (IFOR).
I don't know if you tried it yet because it wasn't shown in this video... You could try barring the engine over with a wrench. It might just be stuck and an easy way to figure that out is to bar the engine over.
Might be a 24 volt system, that would cause your issue. That diesel fuel should still be good, the wonderful thing about diesel fuel is that it doesn't go bad like gasoline. Check out a channel on You Tube called Diesel Creek, Matt went through a rig just like this and fixed a bunch of things. 🙂
making the same starter clunk sound the 3208 CAT i had was... need 100% new 6/0 wire "doubled up two power two ground" soldered copper ring end clamps brass battery clamps, oxidization cleaner for the battery posts and anti oxidization jell on the post clamps. using lead or aluminum clamps that can oxidize creates a lower contact aria that leeds to the clamps spot welding all the lead together including melting the posts off the batteries causing acid leaks that corrode the wire ends as seen. if the copper wire is burnt, the other one cranked it to long tho if all it has is one 6/0 power/ground, the starter might be fine tho the high 2200amp resistance in the burnt wire is the problem. jumper cables only clamp good enough to pass 300amp at the most, those starters can drag off 2000amp or so. two batteries work tho the wire connections need to be 100% clean "new" or the clamps spot weld and create liquid metal arc discharges even if clamped tight. group 65 batteries put out up to 1100cca and in 24 volt they will light a single 6/0 cable on fire in the process of cold starting a 8~12L diesel thats been sitting. the outer cap on the battery posts is made of very thin lead, so getting a battery post spoon to re-solder the posts is a tool list item "aluminum split battery post casting spoon". most car batteries are intentionally made to fail leeding to the post cracking and off gassing when wired to 24 volt... and a group 35 battery is ratted for 600cca so in 24 volt that again drops to 300amp because of the limitations of the inner cell structure and their electron capacity. group 65 batteries are not as expensive as they were 10 years ago. 2k-amp starter systems need 100% clean connections and wire. can also remove the diff carrier unit out of the front axle and install a flat plate if the center section is worn out from excessive low speed operation that ended in no oil being thrown up onto the top section. bolts that don't turn with less then 1500lbft going in them... have to slip the axle out 4 inches to pull the center section out the top. "torch the U-joints out into a blob, a 30-06 would also work to knock them out unless it is one of those CV joint units"
It's diesel Jim but not as we know it !😃That window between the cab and the rear would be the perfect place for a telly and that's one heck of a winch (20.000lbs?). Don't you go turning your back on the bus though she'll get upset😉 Fingers crossed for more coming soon....
@@robertarthurs328 I'm not sure the answer was necessary. He'd know whether there was any or not and to move on to injectors 🤦♂️ its fine though, a lot of people tend to chime in before they realize it's common sense
Starter isnt strong enough to turn over that locked up engine. Pull the injectors break it loose spin it over re install injectors and prime fuel delivery system. And if the engine sound has a lope ( faster slower faster) its down in compression on one or more cylinders
Too much of a pain to do. Multiple people on Steel Soldiers and other forums over the years have tried and given up. Not worth the hassle. Be better off looking for a running multi-fuel engine and dropping it in place.
I'm not sure, but I think they stenciled "SFOR" on the side of trucks that were part of the NATO "Stabilization Force" used in Bosnia and Herzegovina following the Bosnian War. Did that truck take a long trip to the other side of the globe & back??
The Stabilisation Force (SFOR) was a NATO-led multinational peacekeeping force deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Bosnian War. Although SFOR was led by NATO, several non-NATO countries contributed troops. It was replaced by EUFOR Althea in December 2004.
sounds like your fuel locked on that motor, these engines are bad about when they sit with the fuel lever left on they bleed past the injectors and flood the cylinders, but if you need an engine isaac i got a spare engine for one of these thats in a military crate
You basically got a couple hundred dollar truck. If you would go out and pay for the dueling tree and the several other targets you would be 4 or 500 dollars easily, most reputable places sell just the dueling tree for 300 or more. You definitely scored.
Id turn that into the coolest camper ever in a heartbeat!!!
Isaac talking to his brother is hilarious. Its like looking in a vocal mirror 😂😂

Even if you have to buy a few items to get it working... you got a hell of a deal!
If he would drive it with the permanent tag , he could get an even better deal .
Bud dont part this beauty. She deserves a chance to live again and that rear is open all sorts of possibilities Isaac 👍👍👍
Congratulations you scored another one of your dream finds. Amazing collection you have. Totally enjoyed the video thanks

Cool rig!
I was in SFOR 8 in Bosnia in late 2000 it’s cool to see those markings.
Thanks for sharing and taking us along.Awesome and taking content as always
Awesome. Love your projects and rigs, always fun
30:51 might wanna check if the engine is not stuck, before you spend on a starter.
Word! Turn it over at the crank and see
nice score Ike!

You seem more excited about the stuff in the back than the truck itself. I like that lol
Always good to have extra pieces and parts. Great video
@isaacitllbefine7231 It's hydro locked. Pull the injectors, then turn the engine with the fuel shut off. Fuel, water, or coolant will come out. Reconnect injectors and start it up.
Do you think that Isaac doesn't know what hydro locked means???? 🤔 Have you seen any of his videos? 😅
@@mrmurphy172 Didn't say that. No need to be rude.
I thought this was going to be a drive it home video
Take the box off put on farm make chicken coop. 😊😊
Looks like a new great camper/ cars and cameras bike and go kart transporter . Part out the other one 😄
I just started watching on what channel and what a way to start a dude.
That is awesome!!!-John
I’m turning 68 tomorrow and I’d love to see your 57 finished soon.
The exhaust blower in the cab could be a heater that blows hot air from the exhaust to heat the cab also nice score on all the military surplus 👍

Hey Isaac 👋 my good friend cool video
That is a comm vehicle. Used for setting up communication in the field.
Unless you use it for maintenance truck
Nice score Ike, I’d be geeking out on everything the back
Dang. Since I started working at caterpillar on days I have to wait till I get home to watch your videos 😢
Freaking awesome deal for sure! That thing would make an awesome little camper or something too cool man!

It seems like it May be hydro locked, with either fuel or water. Remove flow plugs and see if it will crank over
Friday! best day of the week!! Have a good weekend ike!
I like the style of your wall in the intro I'm ab to build and definitely doing something similar

That truck is awesome and in great shape for its age man, good score homie! Close to cranking isnt close to running bud! lol
That would be a sweet camper.
We Always took a "Shine to Ike", an All American Boy : Tinkering & Reviving! 😮😅😊
One heck of a motorhome in the making there, though I couldn't imagine the fuel bills on it versus the bus... :P
13:00....... Dueling tree 😉 you know, for you and your brother to speed shoot at... 🙂👍
Another good one 👍👍
Boyce Equipment in Ogden,Utah sells parts for these
Old school truck right there😮
Converting this truck here into a camper instead of your bus would be cool.
@Isaac the front and rear third members are the same and can be used in either, the ratio in them are 6.72-1

sounds like the solonoid is engaging the starter but thats it. my hunch is bad starter brushes
The engen is locked up from sitting probably pull the injectors and putt a little brake fluid in each cylinder to free it up get the engen turning over by hand first
If its a 24v starter youll have to hook up the batteries in series if not its only putting out 12v
That's what I was thinking
just something about the old military vehicles , the history they tell, not to mention its probably worth $1075 in scrap :) would make an amazing offroad campervan :)
The truck body would make a nice cabin in the woods. A small wood stove would warm it pretty good
Local glass shop can cut flat laminated glass for windshield no problem

Exhaust blower, could it be for making a smokescreen to hide something ?

Do a 24 hour catch clean cook in there. 😊or buy cook and eat.

That is the heater for when you're camping in the back end
Pull the glow plugs, if no glow plugs, pull injectors. Then try the starter. Could be water in the cylinders. Also could just be seized
No glow plugs

Itll start without the clutch pushed in
how do you get plates and insurance ??????????????????????
It's not a problem. Just like any other car
Bug out vehicle. That’s a backup alarm. You can use various voltages 12-36v. I worked on city buses in Dallas and use similar technology 24 and 12v.
Tell John deuce and a half is the load capacity in tons.😂
Aren't the brakes air over hydraulic? They may not work without air pressure.
It has a hydra vac for boost but the hydraulic should still keep it from going to the floor
Reach out to Low-Buck garage. He knows a lot about the old military equipment.
I'm working on one right now I bet you it's locked up
How can one not love a true deuce and a half - but now you have two, so that's a five right?

Regardless of power plant should still be an overlander lol. In my opinion anyways
