The only channel that is testing and using the number 1 selling 4wd in Oz that I know. Tired of all the 79s that are out of reach or the chopped 200s. Keeping it real as always - 4 wheeling oz
Try roam overlanding he is from south africa
Jose M he talks too much about things, drama queen
Not taking anything away from the Hilux, but it seems very similar to my 2020 Ranger. Wondering if anyone has compared the two?
Well if you're buying a new one of these it's still 60K. But I know what you mean. The number of Hilux's in Australia is more common. Plus other brand dual cab's new and second hand.
@@wanderingambience799 I beg to differ here. His content on his new(used) baaki is good. Never saw him whining...
I love how you are doing the stock tests to show how a normal truck is capable. I can't wait until you mod the truck and compare it again to see how much they help and hurt the performance. Great job so far.
Best 4x4 channel on RUclips I've found so far.
Agreed
My respect to the cameraman. Great work!
He has a channel, intents offroad
Hi Rony loving the hilux footage 👍
Awesome edit, Lancelin is such a great place, as a kid growing up, we had a squatters shack about 20 mins up the beach from the dunes, spent a lot of time fishing off the beach, cray fishing and riding motor bikes. Fast forward a few years and spent time windsurfing and camping, back in 95, got my 70 series short wheel base bogged to the side steps in wind blown sand out the back of the dunes. Spent the next 3 hours digging and dropping tyre pressures down to get out, back in a time of no mobile phones or max trax 😎, will always have a love of that place.
Was up in the dunes doing the exact same thing a few weekends back in my stock Lux.. couldn’t agree more. Great fun in a very capable stock rig. Great video mate.
Really cool videos! I'm currently waiting for my Hilux. I ordered an Extra Cab but otherwise exactly the same as yours. We have to wait until January for them to arrive here in Germany. So your videos keep me stoked for the truck every time. Keep em coming!
Great videography. Always like your videos and this series is really engaging, Ronny. Keep up the good work!
Ah the magic of a light 4x4! They always go much better before we add all our gear to them.
Great work RD, love that you’re doing this from start to finish and aim to keep it light!
Really loving this series of videos 👍👍
loving these reviews on the 2020 lux..looking forward to the next
I have eye balled this vehicle for my possible next, so totally loving this stock review b4 doing the only Mods required.
Cheers Ron
Ive ordered the same spec in the same colour. Looks good and im impressed with how good it is as stock
Can't say how much I appreciate this stock series! Also looking forward to seeing only minimal essential mods 🤟
Best review, this is what i need for the beach trips! Thanks mate!!
Great video Ronny. Got some good tips from that one. Looking forward to the mods coming up!
Another amazing Sunday thanks Ronny go the luxy
Beauty Ron, I glad you tested rear locker downhill. I've always wondered if there was a benefit to keep them locked downhill.
Great video mate! Visually gorgeous and that Hilux looks awesome in the sand.
Great channel, I’ve just bought the 2021 Fortuner so really helpful as same set up!
Great review Ronny. I know it's yours but it's a very thorough and informative review.
I'd be interested to see how it performs once it's got some gear on it.
Thanks for sharing! Looked like a great time. 👍
BEST RONNY KEEP IT UP BRO!
Great video. Would love a bit more info on what gear youre in at each point, high/low range and traction control on/off. Loving the hilux vids!!
Hey Ronny, you make great videos, I like them. I drive Hilux since 25 years, but in Germany we didn't have so nice dunes, but I have fun too. The Hilux is one of the best cars in the world, for real.
Great stuff mate. Very interested in seeing what mods you choose and how much difference it makes to capability. I’ve been modifying my 4x4s for over 15 years and have now circled back around to a minimalist approach.
Nice! Needed some content to watch while working lol! Greeting from USA👋🇺🇲
I love my Hilux. Just got back from the Flinders Rangers, got caught up in some heavy flash floods. Was no problem for the Hilux though, made it through those muddy gorges just fine.
Great video , fantastic pictures.
Love that it is a real world test/review with a stock vehicle. Very relevant to dual cab owners, many who are new 4wding ( me 😀)
Thank you , keep up the good work.
Looking forward to the trip.👍
Love your honest content. So many just promote products, we need to know the bad and the good
Congrats on the new Ute Ronnie. Have you any concerns about the DPF these 2.8’s have had? Does your one have the Toyota fix of a button to do the DPF clean cycle manually?
Great to see you testing the standard vehicle, can’t wait to see what you do with it.
I AM WAITING FOR THIS!
The Hilux seems pretty capable. Such a beautiful landscape too!
So far so good! Good presentation.
Loving the new content with the LUX! I got the 2.8 gd-6 in south africa and loving it. interested to see what front bar you going to put on Ronny:)))
As always excellent videos! Love the hilux! May i ask what made you select the auto gearbox? If im not mistaken on an older video you said that you prefer the manual gearbox.
Thanks for the great videos again!
the michelin LTX a/t 2 are surprisingly good off road
Loving this series, just a bought a px3 ranger wildtrak, hopefully you can show me what’s needed to hit some starter tracks and touring setups
Congrats on the ranger 🤟
Ronny Dahl would love to see some comparisons between your new hilux and a bi-turbo ranger. Having a 10 speed would be interesting off road
Nice work Ronny.
I was surprised there wasn’t a cautionary warning about “having fun on sand” as speed, change in moisture content and quick change in directions can lead to roll overs.
Lookin forward to a lot more weight in the truck.....and towing?
Plus, do you have a twin who bought the manual model?😄
Hey Ronny, could you do some sort of review on the stock lights? Toyota say they are Bi-Beam, do they perform as good or better than the outgoing model?
Good review -pleasantly surprised by the power and capability of this unit in stock format ,had a 2018 hilux SR5 and it was a good vehicle ;but, I wouldn't consider another one ,until i saw this video-thanks again
The motor and gear box is a different setup in the facelift
Great content! Is your choice of 15psi for sand driving an arbitrary one, can you provide some insight into this choice? Are there circumstances in which you would go lower?
You go lower when you get stuck and or the beach is soft asf. For instance on the weekend i got stuck at 15psi. Aired down to 10psi some maxxtrax and i was able to self recover. Ive even gone as low as 5psi before to get up a tall dune and off the beach before. Its amazing what difference to traction a few psi make.
Great stuff, loving the new taco! 👍👍
Lake Havasu, Az.
Far superior to a Tacoma is a Hilux
What is the best gear for a wide open flat beach with very fine dry soft sand? Not packed at all and eats trucks. I have a 100 series Land Cruiser. Suggest 4H locked center diff maybe 3rd gear? Or just put it in 4L second gear start? Thanks from Texas and love your videos!
Great video! Can tell you are having a blast with this truck! Question is..... when is Torbs getting one? ❤️🐞
Torbs is still looking for a Lada Niva 😂
I’m really enjoying this, it seems like this Hilux will give my 2014 Ranger Wildtrak a run for its money. Much love from the Philippines.
Ronny do you have any thoughts on the truck claws? I would be great to hear your opinion on them.
Watching these makes me wish I could take my '99 Silverado k2500 out for a weekend trip, but we just don't have any fun trails in southern Illinois, just some mud pits that are so busy they're really not any fun.
great episode Ronny, i have a Question. What os the better rust proofing, the electronic of the the traditional chemical ?
I’m not convinced about the electronic rust protection. I think general maintenance and cleaning is key and has worked well for my vehicles so far
Hey Ronny, interested in your thoughts on the tie down points on the front of the new lux; I understand that they are not rated for recovery, but I also wonder why Toyota have changed the way the tie downs are fixed to the chassis, on previous models they were bent and welded parallel to the chassis. On the new model they are fixed through the chassis via 4 drilled holes and welded at all points were the chassis meets the tiedown, they certainly look far beefier than the old models and steel gauge is very similar to that of a 4t shackle. I'm not going to use them as recovery points i just find it strange that Toyota would spend money beefing something up for no reason, thoughts would be appreciated
Ronny will my 2015 Prado be roughly the same on sand ?
What do you recon
My 4runner in sequential shift mode in the low range is also sharp and snappy. Been this way since new.
Wow nice ride!!!
Great vid!
How do you find that whining diff though?
Was it just picked up by the camera mic, or is it loud?
Cheers
That’s the transfer case in low range, a lot of modern cars have this apparently and I’ll find out soon as I’ve got an opportunity to drive some other new models next week 🤟
@@Ronny_Dahl cheers for the reply! Sounds great, and thanks for your vids
My 2011 patrol whines in low range to, think it's somewhat normal
I love that you are waiting to modify it to show us how capable it is stock, but personally I would add rock sliders early, it won't really change is performance and capability too much for stock testing, but would still be a safety measure just in case.
Amazing how good the cars are straight out of the box. For the average Joe, what you're doing in this is the most they would normally get done. Save the weight and only get the mods you really need for what you're planning on tackling.
Does it have an electronic throttle like the tacoma Ronny?
budget camping setup is hype, looking forward to the next video!
Hey great stuff you rekon you cld do a video on how to drive in different terains for beginers like me i have to x trails but 2 scared to take them off road but wld love to only if i knew what i need to do like stopping on sand mud how much to exelerate when not to stop or exelerate all these things wld be great info thanks keep up the good work and hope u make this vid please
Thanks Ron, would love to see how it would perform towing a 2.5 to 3 tonne caravan, and what the economy would be like.
gotta love Lancelin's RAZORBACK dune
Nice vid, should do a frame/chassis comparison between hilux and 79
Brilliant! 👌
Hey Ronny, how often would you use power mode when 4wding in the hilux?
Cheers
💯 on sand but not it the hills
We have the crawl control on the trd off road tacomas in the US and the auto braking feature sounds like your truck is breaking apart! It sounds scary lol
Can we get a 0-100 please. How does it hold up next to the ford and triton? Thanks
How do you guys go with communicating with other drivers not in your group. I get a bit stressed when going over a crest or on the single car tracks
My Prado performs and handles the same, bloody love it. You should have got rid of your gas guzzler ages ago!
You should load it to GVM with a water pod or something and perform the same tests. Bet you wouldn't be as game with the batman test, or be climbing those dunes as easily.
Food for thought before people bolt tons of stuff to their rigs
You think he won’t load it up eventually this is just testing what she can do standard
Fucking yes bro! Been waiting so long for a "budget" set up from you on a stock vehicle (getting a tacoma soon)! Upload it asap 😂😂🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Best truck ever!!
What brand of portable compressor do you have?
I've seen you basic 4x4 kit and...it looks super practical (for poor people like me) :).
Whould of like to see the difference between disabling the traction aids vs pulling the traction and stability fuses. Im still curious if the computer will intervene on side slopes. Rony if you ever wana come to dubai and see how we do it Desert Fellas will be happy to host you.
Great Vid, If you do another sand vid when you do the mods and more weight can you show the difference on a steep climb or really soft sand with traction control ON then completely OFF. (Hold TC button on for five seconds)
Off makes a massive difference in the sand, TC can bog you.
Good work rony, have you already installed diff breather kit
Nothing done yet apart from decals and tint
Great video as always, love the honesty in all your reviews, a pity you couldn't get on the beach. Looking forward to the budget Trip and the build videos
A personal question is it better than your 79 top video tiger 🐅
Finding this series extremely interesting. One thing I am wondering about is when you put the bullbars on what to do about the front sensors? My car, currently stock, has front parking sensors and lane following as well as some camera lens thingy. Is it possible to install a bullbar and not lose those capabilities?
Yes it is but there are some things you can’t do. I’ll cover these when I do install a bar to it.
For now on stage one the bull bar is not on that list yet
@@Ronny_Dahl Looking forward to it.
Excellent video - Yes I second (third) stock tires in mud please
I own the 2019 SR5 version and its still stock. The only thing I did was change the H/T tyres to the A/T tyres when I bought it because I feel the HT are very slippery around where I live on the roads. Plus I didnt like chrome rims haha.
Im curious to see what you do to yours, especially who you go to for your bullbar!
The bullbar is the big question. It’s the face of the vehicle
As a new model it will come with features like TPMS and lots airbags that dont feature in older trucks. It would be great to hear whether features like these should be modified or disabled for off roading. It would be a nice Q&A topic!
ken
Strange? This engine noise is different from the 2.8 version of Taiwan? Do you need to add urea to your car?
thnx Ronny gr8 test gogo hilux ...can wiat to see what it wil do with more load ,,and mut tyres :-)
Would be good to see coolant/air temps etc on a scan gauge or similar while it’s stock then again after fitting bull bar and other mods happen.
Is this the updated hilux with 150kw? As it was mentioned as the 2021 and the 2020.
How will be with the driver and 400 kg load?
Is it a 2020 or 2021 i see both coming up all the times when ever you have done a vid on it
Lancelin dunes are still firm underneath, try in December with load
Yeah first time I used the downhill assist in my vehicle I thought that I had broken it tbh.
The sound of the abs kicking in can be a bit of a shock when you aren't used to it. Works amazingly well and even though people carry on about "good" drivers not needing it I am yet to see a driver who is good enough to brake individual wheels if it is needed. Sort of showed with the downhill bit of this video imo.
It sounds like the Lux is working pretty hard at times tbh.
If I engage sand mode in mine it disables the T/C and holds the thing at peak torque/2300 rpm. With an eight speed gearbox and virtually seamless changes you hardly know that it is changing gears. Bit different to watching a manual being revved off its tits and then bogging down as they try to get the next gear up.
I love manual gearboxes but the way these things operate these days is very very impressive.
Sure as hell wouldn't enjoy the bill to repair one though.
Hi Ronny, Greetings from Dubai the United Arab Emirates where the outdoors are nothing but desert. The LC 200 has set the bar to be the best offroader in the desert. Can you please do some comparison tests with the Hilux and a LC 200 to find out which is the best ? I want to get my hands on a affordable and reliable desert runner. Thanks and love your channel.
Hi Ronny,
Have you given your 4wd a name ? Does anyone name there vechiles ?
5:34 Is that a good thing though? Isn't the fun of driving partly in being actively involved in the process?
Can you tell me the brand and model of the tire? Thank you
Wouldn’t be able to make a video of how to utilise an automatic correctly whilst 4 wheel driving ? I’ve only even had manual 4x4’s would love to know how to correctly use an automatic if off road situations. Cheers
Power mode not sports mode. Made for towing - under load the gear changes wouldn't be as violent.
Downhill assist you set the speed with the pedal, then press the assit button and you will progress down hill at that speed unless overridden 👍
Did you test the 2019....the engine before this one
Im torn between this and the triton. Which one is more capable? Any advice please. Thanks 🙏
Not even a question the hilux is better
Very jealous of what you can do outside Victoria. Besides us in Melbourne in lockdown, we can't drive on beaches (except very limited numbers through Portland 4wd club), yet we have some magnificent beaches only a few hours away. 90 Miile Beach an awesome place but no 4wds allowed.
Nice footage! For this type of terrain you should have bought the Ranger Raptor....
