The Indians won 111 games that year so the Yanks weren't even close. The Yanks struggled against Boston and Washington in 54 (both with sub.500 records) going 26-18 while Cleveland demolished them going 38-6. Very much a transitional year in Yankee history, the five consecutive World Series victories snapped, and even though the team would win 9 out of the next 10 American League pennants they were no longer as dominant in World Series play going 4-5 in the fall contest.
