    As someone who just started in the lapidary arts but doesn't have the cash for even the lowest model for faceting ($2.5k USD!) I wish we had more info on exactly how to set up a jam-peg or something like the handheld thing used in other areas (which I think evolved from the Edus?). Can't seem to find plans for them though.

    Thanks for the video. I visited Chantabury 20 years ago, saw people using these machines, but didn't have easy to make videos then.

    The jamb Ped bearing is made of Lignum vitae wood. I believe that the best comes either from South America or Central America. It's used to this day on ships for propeller bearings.

    hi Justine,
    love your work.
    can you tell me where to get this simple plastic wheel to use as index wheel? I can not find it anywhere, any idea where to look?

    Good night, beautiful work, how do I buy this equipment, Facet Hand Mast Faceting Gemstone Lapidary Tool 6,8,10,12 & 14 Facet Dop Sticks, I live in Brazil.

      I know where to buy in Thailand (somsit.com) but I think in Brazil there is a local source but I don't know who it is

    Interesting hisory, thanks for the vid. I've seen these on auction sites, but none seems to come with a 16-facet dop (like what would be on a SRB). Do JP dops come in 16, or do the cutters make-do with something else?

    • @JustinKPrim
      @JustinKPrim  3 года назад

      I think they mostly use 8 sided and cheat for the rest of the facets. Even for an SRB 16 indexes won’t cut the whole stone, you need 32 teeth. There are definitely not 32 tooth wheels in Thailand. In France they only use 4 side and 8 sided sticks but their mechanical sticks are much more sophisticated so their is a sort of indexing cheater in the stick to rotate the stone and still use the same 8 outside indexes. The Thai stick is not that complex. They just chest a lot and get very good at it.

      @@JustinKPrim Interesting - thank you. Have you seen the process performed? The Thai stick/wheel seems very simple/basic... cheating with one is, I guess, where the art & experience rule.

      @@jillbluerei4806 Yes I've cut one stone that way and its VERY challenging. There is a reason why it takes 6 years to get good on the Thai machines and I think mastering the cheating Is a big part of it. When I cut my stone the teacher kept having to fix my orientation because I couldn't understand how much to twist and turn as I went

    • @JustinKPrim
      @JustinKPrim  4 года назад +2

      @@pedrogallardo8434 for loose diamond you need some kind of oil to help it stick to the lap. I use either olive oil or sewing machine oil though people use all kinds of oil, even hand creme and wd40
