    I've made my own jewelry since I was a teen. One of my favorite stones is clear quartz. When I buy quartz beads I buy only clear quartz beads with polished holes. They cost extra but it's well worth it. The clarity is stunningly beautiful. Sometimes I string the beads with clear monofilament & it looks like the beads are floating in the air. Other times I'll string the beads with a color coated, braided wire. The color effect is really nice too. I frequently grow bored with my jewelry, take it apart & make new, different pieces. Never a dull moment!
    That huge clear quartz stone that you cut & faceted is simply magnificent. Kudos!

    I am a graduate gemmologist (yep, we use an extra ‘m’ in the UK) and have always been in awe of the ability of gem cutters to create such incredibly beautiful stones from rough crystals. I’m aware of how much thought and consideration goes into the process the get the most from the rough whilst ensuring the best outcome and it amazes me how talented you are. You are correct. Silicosis is no joke. Has similar effects to mesothelioma. Deathly disease.

    • @johnpienta4200
      @johnpienta4200 4 месяца назад

      2:18 there's enough dust there already to cover the working surface. Silicosis basically is like glass dust in your lungs. They go in, they never come back out and they create microscale trauma everywhere which leads to inflammation which both destroys lung tissue and can lead to cancer.
      Bacon is a carcinogen by extraordinarily weak epidemiological evidence from large scale population level reviews of people's diets, which are based on questionnaires where people estimate what they ate for an entire year. The mechanism is a lot of hand waving about nitrates and the WHO's recommendation was heavily influenced by "plant based diet" advocacy.
      Silicosis is extremely well established, irreversible, and an unquestionable occupational hazard. I've seen people in their 30s and 40s who need lung transplants because of it, from finishing artificial quartz countertops.
      Please take precautions. Nobody deserves that fate.

    The geometry on this stone is incredible and the view into the stone after polishing the first facet was so cool. I think it's easy to take for granted that a stone like this needs to be cut by someone. Someone like you needs to put in many, many hours of extremely precise work for it to look the way it does when it's finished. I imagine that if you try to cut or polish one of those facets and the angle is off by even one degree it's gonna cause big problems. Considering all that just makes the finished piece even more impressive. This is so cool!

    I hope this goes viral for you. You certainly put in the time; both in that stone in particular and building the skills that allowed you to cut it so beautifully. It was fun to see your problem solving when you hit an obstacle. I would have liked a little bit showing your use of the program to reconfigure the design for the crown. Maybe a little also to why you chose that particular shape/angles. Is it because of how quartz refracts light compared to other gemstones? Do you have to keep the angles within certain bounds to maximize the internal light reflection?

    No joke! The cutting of that stone must be more expensive than the stone itself. Plus, no one else would put in the effort. 5 hours for 1 side? Jesus! you're incredible!

    I'm currently listening to a fascinating podcast called Empire, and it's covering the Koh-i-Noor diamond at the moment so no doubt this is why your channel popped up in my feed. I'm glad it did, this was so brilliant to watch. I've never seen a stone cut before. Your work is incredibly beautiful. I wouldn't want to give it back :-)

Absolutely stunning.That will make an incredible addition to someone's collection.You said that you are self-taught;well,you taught yourself very,very well indeed! I'm so glad the opportunity to watch you work and see the end result,presented itself this evening!

    Certainly an epic task. I was a bit surprised by the jump in grits but obviously you didn’t have an issue. Polishing the pavilion culet first rather than the break facets was something new for me.

    Really really nice!!! Like others have commented - I am not sure why the RUclips algorithm recommended this (i.e. I don't remember watching any prev videos about gemology) but I'm so glad it was recommended. Watching you analyze, cut, and carefully grind/polish this large piece of quartz ...turning it into this beautiful stone was a pleasure to watch! Looking forward to checking out the other videos on your channel! Cheers!
