    Thank you for the video; it was nice watching it. I just got two little blue guys, and one is growing oddly faster than the other. So, I think I will keep them separated to give the smaller the chance to put on some size. They sure are beautiful. It's a strange thing; I have never seen two fully grown Dempseys in the same tank.

    I would suggest treating all new Electric Blue Jack Dempsey from Pet Stores (Unknown Origins)with Clout and also treat for internal parasites Automatically. This will greatly increase your chances of getting your Electric Blue Jack Dempsey to live into adulthood (provided it has decent genetics). Also I would avoid live food, as it can cause a parasite problem unfortunately.

    I have a badass jack Dempsey that survive hurricane sandy and the massive ice storm that hit New Jersey a couple years back. He’s around 5-6 years old, but he has a horrific ick infection he has been battling the last month or so. Anyways, my story about my electric blue goes a little like this. I just recently bought a nice little electric blue and put him in my 30 gallon tank. He was super small, and really fast, so overall a really solid fish. Along with it in the tank we’re two jewels, another regular Dempsey and a baby pacu. They had all gotten along very well, too well in fact. While I go to feed them after I had arrived from school, and I see the Pacu with a little blue rock in his mouth. I think you all can discover everything that followed along from there. God damn pacu

    • @fishn4k969
      @fishn4k969  5 лет назад

      Hi, sorry to hear about your experience with the Pacu eating your EBJD. I've had people ask me about how I got mine to be compatible with different fish and I tell them the best way to go about it is to try and raise all fish together at the same size/age. Another thing that helps is making sure they're well feed so it hopefully curbs any unwanted natural aggression. I really hope your JD pulls through, Ick is tough. Best of luck & thanks for watching.

    Mannnn, that's insane. I have almost the identical fish veriaty setup as yours. Lol. I got one Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, two Blue Acaras, two Frontosas, 6 Rainbow fish and 1 Angel fish. So by looking at your tank I was like wow that's our tank. Lol. But I also have 5 Clown Loaches, 2 Geopheguses, 1 Bichir Eel, 1 Peacock Eel, 1 Rope fish, 2 Pictus catfish, 1 Butterfly fish, 2 Synodontis catfish, 1 Pleco and Raphael catfish. As you can tell I got a very diverse tank. And you're 100% correct that if you raise them together from their childhood they get along quite well with their tank mates. A lot of people said that my fish won't get along because those are too different from each other and eventually one will be attacking the other. But I had them together for more than a year now and knock on wood, so far so good. Everyone is happy and nobody is picking on anyone. Great educational video. And I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure your Blue Electric Jack Dempsey had a happy life.

    I think they have improperly been taken care regardless of the “typical life span or typical size” since they are sensitive they should be kept with only a few fish or of there own .i know water quality is key but so is there food and stress level.

    Hi! I watched your video many times to learn about ebjd... Great tips, there's no doubt. Please, give me your opinion. What's the best choice for my 55 gal tank: 01 EBJD living with 01 Frontosa and some dither fish like platy? Or a group of 04 EBJD with the platy? EBJD live fine with FRONTOSA? How was your experience about this?

    • @fishn4k969
      @fishn4k969  5 лет назад +2

      Hi, I appreciate the views and lets see about your questions, I would go with the EBJDs (but 3 instead of 4) and the dither fish. I think I would go with something a little more robust than platys, maybe a school of tiger barbs might be able to hold their own a little better. My frontosas did fine with Garrus but I think if I was to do it again I wouldn't mix them (due to PH preference of EBJD, the sweet spot is 7.4-7.5 IMO). Also the frontosas will eventually outgrow that 55gallon tank so plan for a bare minimum of a 125gallon if you'd like to have a small school of frontosas. Of course all of these are just my opinions, best of luck man, hope everything goes well.

    • @kizukigaia
      @kizukigaia 5 лет назад

      @@fishn4k969 I decided to keep only 01 EBJD with dither fish for now. Zero stress for him while growin up. Then, when adult, I'll think about another cichlid tankmate. This is the right choice, I guess. No stress while he is a baby. Thank you for the advices.

      EBJD hase been around since the 80's. A fish farmer in Argentina noticed the mutation coming from one of his breeders. They were never really abundant until the last 15 years. Breeders are still trying to increase the length of time they live through outcrossing.

    • @fishn4k969
      @fishn4k969  5 лет назад +1

      Hi, so I think it's best to have just one EBJD in the 55gallon community you have. I know that they can be especially territorial towards each other. I see videos of people that have multiple EBJDs in smaller tanks but very seldom do they ever reach a lifespan of longer than a year. I think I was successful because mine never had to stress or compete with another EBJD for tank dominance. So I would reccomend just 1 per tank. I wish you the best of luck & thanks for watching.

  • @Brummiemartin
    @Brummiemartin 3 года назад

    Dying young? I can never get EBJD's to survive more than 3-4 days in my aquarium that contains Severums, Angels, Acara and a catfish. The ones I can get hold of tend to be very young, and therefore much smaller than the those fish in the tank. Consequently they feel overawed and go into hiding. When "found" by another fish, they behave like prey, very skittish, which is like waiving a red rag to a bull to the other cichlids. So much as I'd like one in my tank, unless I get one that's a lot bigger than you get at a LFS, one that can look after itself, It's a no-go for me.
