- This is a summary of the life of my 2 Elecric Blue jack Dempseys, from when I first bought them, and had to drive 3 hours to get them, at one inch long until now approaching two years later, at 8 inches. All in my 55g Frashwater tank, with many other community fish, including over the years, Tetras, Barbs, Catfish, Plecos, Rainbowfish, and Sharks.
55g tank, Fluval 304 canister and Aquaclear 50 HOB with surface extractor. Fluval E series 200 heater.
This is the outcome when you have greater filteration than the tank ask for . Nice pair .👍
BEAUTIFUL PAIR BRO!
I will never own oscars, too common of fish, love these guys, they are split up now, one almost died and is now in a 90g and the stronger one is still in the 55g.
When I got mine they were small, if you raise them with other fish and multiple fish from babies (like less than 2") they would probably be ok, So whatever size the German Rams, get dempseys a lot smaller then the rams. And you will need a big tank, 55g + with good filtration, I run a Fluval 304 canister and Aquaclear 50.
Stunning ebjd pal very lucky to grow them both ive tried 15 times only ever managed 3.5inch before something causes them to die
Thanks for the information. My tank wouldn't be big enough though. It's only about a 40gl. I just have to watch yours instead
Thanks dude!
Such beautiful fish u got there. Loved it. How many species of fish you got in there!
Exquisite fish!!! Do u still have them alive??? 10x more beautiful than basic JD
Beautiful fish, but for the life of me I don’t understand why you would have two makes together. Their fighting is stressful on them, not to mention candidates for duck lips which can be fatal or severe bacterial infections. Perfect for breeding if you separate them and introduce two or more mature blue Jack Dempsey females. I hope you do the right thing for the health and safety of the fish.
Giant Betta
What's the growth rate for JD's?
I can't decide between one of these or an Oscar.
They look awesome! Love watching how the colors evolve. Thanks for sharing. Are those all live plants?
Brian Czup thanks for the comment, all the plants are fake in that 55g.
Lindos seus jack
They tend to kill or injure most community fish since they are very territorial. But each one has its personality so you could get lucky with a mild one :) Never know till you try it but I recommend not putting community fish in. Hey, its your tank man, try and see what happens.
so cool looks like a little oscar but grow way nicer in my oppin...
I have one that is about 1.5 inches in my 60 gallon community/ semi-aggressive tank and he is fine even with my rainbow sharks and my electric blue acara
A ron KnD thanks. You answered my question. I recently bought three small Jack Dempseys to add to my community tank. Imagine my surprise after watching this video and learning that they can grow as much as 8-inches 😳. Something the pet shop owner failed to inform me.
I'll wait a few months before telling my wife; I'll give them time to grow on her. 😂
Man i love your dampseys, tell me how big your tank is and how is their smaller tank mates still alive ?? Im thinking to get a pair of them but just wondering how they can live with tank mates as oscars, gouramis and showelnose ? Any ideas...
Nice fish! Thinking about getting one for my 55g full of tiger barbs.
Did your EBJD eat all your tiger barbs? I'm just wondering because I know my Tigers sleep really deep at night with or without the lights on and would really seem like easy prey.
Nice video! What pH you think is the best for EBJD ?
What a gorgeous fish. What size tank do you have them in?
So u had no problems with aggression with the blues?
beautiful pair of ebjd ,was wondering what you feed them ? just bought one and really trying to make sure they dont get any parasites. i herd blood worms are bad for them, so just wondering what did you use to feed them
Tom Scialpi honestly i think that all dependa on the breeder and how strong the fish comes out i got one last week exactly an inch and every day i feed him a pee with crushed up pellets until he gets little bigger i wont be giving any frozen bloodworms
Blue dempseys are inherently weak fish. Very prone to disease u less very clean water. No bloodworms at all. Mostly Hikari cochlid foods, sinking pellets, sinking cichlid excel, carnivore pellets, massivore delight. Plus large Tetra flakes, Tetra sinking pellets and i forget brand but sinking shrimp pellets.
Hi
It's tempting but I think they'd probably beat the crap out of my german rams
Get the jacks
i have one ebjd, but not that blue.. sometimes it's pale blue
how to enhance the color?
it's about 2" and i bought it less than $3
You should either split them up or sell one or both of them before one or both of them dies from fighting

I wanted oscars however common they are, but I got lemon oscars instead, I wanted some that weren't so common in that regard. But it's tricky, I want to raise up a EBJD an eventually introduce em. That or maybe some severums, but my 4 lil guys are pushing 7" + now, gonna have to buy more adult ones or get a separate tank an raise em up lol
How did u raised them?!?!? Mine is keep dying like not eating food... Etc

Hello, thanks for the comment. They are a very sensitive species, the blue gene is recessive and part of it is a weaker immune system fish that is more susceptible to disease. You need to have really clean water and take good care of them. I had 2 filters on my big tank to help with that, 1 wet/dry and one HOB. Their favorite food i found were Hikari Sinking Carnivorous pellets and as they get bigger Massivore Delight (same thing just bigger). Also I fed a large variety of foods daily, flake, shrimp, tablets, frozen etc, but never beef heart as they seemed to get sick faster with it.
Thanks! ☺️
where did you buy your electric blue jack dempseys
i wasn't aware that you could put jack dempseys with community fish and or semi aggressive do they eat any of your fish
Sometimes they will eat small fish like white clouds or smaller tetras if they fit in their mouth. I have Buenos Aries Tetras and they area really fast and rarely get killed by EBJD.
No, like I said that comment was on the wrong video!!! I breed EBJD and sell them for $20 to $30 each I would not pay $300 for one...
Still breeding ebjd? I may be needing 1 in the future
Anything special to keep them alive please tell
Wow that is crazy, I don't know how the comment....
"Damn... only if you knew what that fish is worth, You could have got at least $300 for it at that size!!!!"
Even got on this video... I put that comment on a video of a guy catching a big 7 pointer pleco in the wild in Brazil... I did put the one about beautiful fish on this video.. Crazy how that happened.
Wow grow protect quick don’t they ?what food do they eat?meat or veggie food?looking. At gettin few of these few weeks time?are they aggressive fish?wanna mix with African chiclids from the Uk
I would not put them with african cichlids. Africans need much different water parameters and also the blue dempsey is prone to disease as it has the weaker genes of a normal dempsey. They can get sick and die quickly if you do not keep good water quality.
I feed a lot of different foods daily, mostly Hikari branded cichlids pellets, sinking carnivore pellets, massivore delight, and then tetra large flakes, sinking pellets and shrimp pellets.
Wow... I recently purchased three for my community tank. The pet store owner had not informed me that they would grow as much as 8-inches in size 😳.
Concerned they'll out grow my 55 gallon community tank. What size tank do you recommend if I decide to keep them as they continue to grow?
Donald Johnson ive had them in 55g, they should do fine, just make sure they have plenty of room to swim around the tank edges, and they will likely max out about 10inch.
savageasflux great. Thanks for your reply.
@@djpseudoname2023 You should just sell them to me. I plan on trying to Breed them. My 110 is just waiting for the EBJD's. :)
Those are two males...FYI
Check out my electric blue Acara!
If they fight too much they'll get too stressed out their immune systems will get weak and they will get sick electric blue Jack Dempsey's are very temperamental fish and are super hard to get past two or three years old the worst part is they have a gene mutation which sometimes makes them die prematurely
U got those mad cheap 15.99 damn
DANKdaHERBALIST really? i bought one,it was 2" sold for $3
wanna buy more but the fish store dont have it now
Those were two males trying to kill each other.
WalthamVlOGs can tell me the different between male and female one?
Beautiful fish but you should really separate them, that is 2 males and one will end up getting hurt bad if not killed!! They can get stressed out and die just from fighting and running so much!!! the older they get the worse it will get!!!
Damn... only if you knew what that fish is worth, You could have got at least $300 for it at that size!!!!
Thanks for the comment. I am well aware what they are "worth", but thats irrelevant to keeping my hobby. They got separated, one into a new 90g, the other stayed in 55g tank. EBJD are inherently weak fish and die easily. These are both dead now. I have a new small one in the 90g.
Its cool its worth 300, but id never sell :) Would you pay 300? Maybe id start raising them....
+savageasflux I was thinking of buying two juveniles EBJD but I was told they are weak and die easily. Just like what you said. This is making me think twice now..
Should have got some females and breed them healthy boys
