Alex Murdaugh Trial: Gunshot Residue All Over Blue Jacket, Forensic Examiner Testifies

- The forensic examiner who swabbed evidence in the Alex Murdaugh case took the stand Tuesday and testified about her findings. Megan Fletcher stated a blue jacket, the same jacket the defense challenged Monday, had “significant” gunshot residue particles all over it.

AM brought that jacket to his parents house according to the caretaker. I think her testimony was outstanding and it proved to me he did it.
The housekeeper was truly a brave woman. This lady had given her trust and kindness to the family. It will take her time to come to terms with all she has been through. God bless her.
So a man who hunts having a rain jacket during a late spring rainy afternoon proves he murdered someone?
If I'm just running from my car to the house my rain jacket would likely be covering me like an umbrella instead of on me and thus balled up under my arm as I enter the house. That coupled with the fact I often forget my jackets at work, church and friends leaves me with enough reasonable doubt to expel the jacket as any evidence of crime.
@@yurmabeechaudits3522 but if you ask someone to lie about how long you were at the house in the night of the murders so you can have an alibi- that screams guilt. And that’s what she testified to also.
@@yurmabeechaudits3522 the residue inside the rain jacket made the prosecutor think guns were carried inside that jacket. That's why it's important and was tested for residue.

So strange this prosecuting attorney has his bare hands all over these prices of evidence
It’s not strange, they’ve already been tested. But as a precaution, he should still be wearing gloves.
The evidence is done in terms of testing. Once it hits trial all trace and forensic evidence has been gathered and after that the chain of custody gets too big it can no longer be used for testing. This is nothing abnormal and is common. Haven't you seen other trials of prosecutors holding up murder weapons or even a perfect example is the glove they had OJ put on ("if it does not fit you must acquit")

Why didn't the attorney just ask: "Did you find gunshot residue on the jacket--and, if so, where." Cut to the chase. Instead, we're in the weeds for 30 minutes--explaining each of the 25 sections of the jacket, "and then we turned the jacket inside out, and then we checked the inside pocket, and then the left outside of hood" and blah, blah blah for 30 minutes.
That's how it is - Very boring and excessive amount of detail
That would be all well and good if the GSR meant anything. You can get it just by handling a gun. They have a house that has guns all over it. The only good GSR evidence is if you had no other reason to have GSR besides the murders. In this case it irrelevant and a waste of time anyway. You get GSR residue on you as soon as you pick up any gun. People that carry constantly have it on them.

It has already been tested so it no longer is going to be tested for anything. They still should be wearing gloves.
Ik..yesterday the lady said there are chemicals on it and they should wear gloves 🤣
Fingerprints are much more difficult to obtain than folks realize. They have to be on a SMOOTH surface AND have the oils intact to get. A jacket isn’t a smooth surface as it’s very porous. 😔
Why would it matter at this point? I’m sure they won’t be doing any more testing on it.
The case isn't closed, the evidence could be reexamined at a later date in case of a mistrial, appeal, etc. Not sure why people think it's not relevant anymore. Of course it's bizarre an article from a gun shooting family was subject to extra non routine testing for gun residue and there's no evidence it was involved in the commission of a crime. Surely the prosecution would be happy to invalidate any further testing.
Why did he keep the raincoat yet he got rid of everything else?
I bet his stuff is buried with his father!!
He forecasted rain is my guess
I think he was going to plant the evidence
Because he’s an arrogant narcissist and quite frankly, not very intelligent.
What evidence do you have, or have heard in court that he got rid of anything? Innocent until proven guilty.
He REALLY thought he was going to get away with this. It is amazing but he really did. There's no telling what this guy has gotten away with throughout his life. I don't think it has fully hit him that he is going to die in prison.
Your first killing is not gonna be your wife and son, he had practice
What a tangled web he weaved!
He deserves to Rot in prison. He deserves the death penalty 💯
There’s only one thing that could point to him not doing it and that’s how bad he planned it but he did do it
So, a loose raincoat in the possession of a family that owns, and apparently shoots, many guns, frequently, has GSR on it! Imagine that!
I'm interested to hear how they date the GSR to ensure it was from the night in question; also; how they determined it was from the shells/cartridges expended that night.
Ballistic guy said different manufacturers have different residue “fingerprints” so it is possible to tell which shells left the gsr
But why was this particular item hidden up at his parent's attic? If it was of no use anymore at his home he or someone would have thrown it out not go and hide it. He is/was mega "rich" but maybe just on paper he could afford many brand new raincoats/ponchos but this 1 was hidden up in an attic. Hmmmm
The date it was transferred is not the issue here. The problem is that this is the item he brought to his mother’s house after the night of the murders that he was not wearing in the interview. Surely as a raincoat, this gsr would not be present it would’ve been washed away.

My guess is that he is aware that this is the most direct and damning evidence n also the evidence likely to sway his "supporters". It's got to be hard to envision this is the last thing Paul and Maggie seen before going home to the Lord.
Hopefully, they had given their hearts to Jesus and were saved. 2 Corinthians 6:2: “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

-I think he probably planned on killing his family and then himself but he couldn’t end his own life (similar to the the roadside incident). She did that on her own, he didn't tell her to. She's a professional at handling evidence and so she did it. @@skylerfelix7609 GSR has a lifespan, it doesn't just stay on clothes forever. dont know if youve ever shot guns before but i wouldnt do it w my clothes inside out either. jacket was found in the attic of his moms house which he was at the night of the murders.
He could have had something wrapped in the jacket 🤔
Is she just verbally testifying this without showing any sort of physical tests and their conclusions?
This is a waist of time , of course their is going to be gunshot residue they are hunters , If there had been blood from Paul or Maggie that would be a game changer . Any number of people could have used that coat while hunting , Waist of time !!!
waste* Courtesy of the spelling police 😉
Can someone answer this for me? Wouldn't there be blood splatter too?
Ballistic expert said there was in the kennel.
The prosecutor lied and sad there was high velocity blood splatter on Alex but it was proven that was not true and it was just another lie from the prosecutor.
Can someone explain to me the importance of this blue rain jacket? This is the first I've heard of it.
Why does the lawyer need to repeatedly ask the same question? Makes him either sound like he needs lessons in listening or completely dense. She must have had to describe the pattern to lift residue from the poncho 5 times. I admire her tolerence.
I’m a huge fan of “The Behavior Panel” (check it out on RUclips if you’re interested in body language!) When they bring the box out he doesn’t blink for over 30 seconds. When they bring the jacket out his blink rate skyrockets. Watch him start gnawing on that gum starting at 11 minutes 45 seconds. I’m not sayin, I’m just sayin…
Where’s the evidence that it’s his jacket? Oh, that’s right there isn’t any evidence that it belongs to him. only that lame witness that said he had a blue tarp, but it may have been that jacket because they were the same color🤡
Why taking so long this case?
Does that mean the gunshot residue can be from any time he wore it to go shooting? Or can they tell if it is fresh?
Naw it will remain on clothing for a long time even if you wash it in some cases.
What’s it laying on? What’s underneath it? Is that a ruler? It took two of you? Well golly, who gives a sh**
Yeah man this prosecution is not doing well at all. They go on and on. I imagine the jury is ripping their hair out.
