Is there evidence of that? For me, there are really only two reasons for this case: 1) what you said. Hes punishing his wife or 2) dude was having a major psychotic break. From the little I know about this, im guessing it’s going to be the second. He was talking about “chad knows what’s right” and thought a friend of his was in the CIA. I’m guessing he did have schizophrenia. He’ll be in state hospital for the rest of his life if that’s the case.

They don't need his confession. They have eyewitnesses from his wife and his stepdaughter. They arrived at the scene immediately after he had the gun laying next to him. They do not need his confession for anything.

That’s why he changed the plea. He stood no chance with a conventional plea. He clearly premeditated this and tried to create a pretext for the insanity plea.
He tormented them. One ran away and he chased him down and brought him back. Also hurting the mother for trying to protect them.

It is not becoming commonplace. It has always been part of the human condition. If anything there is a long term trend for decreasing crime rates.
This has always been going on. Especially with this certain demographic of people. You just never really know what’s really going on behind closed doors.

this one 16yr old kid killed his dad, mom, and two siblings (I think 6 and 12).
There was that mother that killed her 3 kids, people feel sorry for her saying she was depressed. She also asked for a lawyer.

I work with the brother of the wife, not that I have any inside info. I don't ask questions, I figure it is traumatic enough without having to discuss it with everyone. But with or without his statements to the police, the evidence is overwhelming.

I don't even really agree with the death penalty, but honestly, with the pain he caused and continues to cause the living victims, it seems too cruel to allow him to continue living.

Those babies ran for their lives…they experienced the fear as they tried to save themselves, the confusion-it’s their dad, the paralyzing terror if they saw their dad point the gun at them first, and the pain of being shot/dying. It’s agonizing just to think about how helpless they were.

Yes, but when asked for lawyer's names he gave names of people that weren't. That said, he was displaying signs of mental illness so at that point they should have called a forensic psychiatrist and have him assessed.

Does Jury Nullification fit in here at all? I know that for me, no matter the reason, he killed his children, and he’s guilty.
The jury would have to be aware of it, and no one is allowed to inform them of it, and they would all have to agree that he deserves to be free, even though he committed the crime, which is doubtful. The jury is not going to nullify in this case.
Maybe he doesn’t know he would still be locked up for life. Just in a mental hospital.
Jury nullification is when you refuse to convict.

Jury nullification is when the jury refuses to follow the law. It results in a mistrial. The only case I've ever found where jury nullification was a successful strategy was Dr. Henry Morgentaler. He convinced multiple juries to ignore the law until the prosecution gave up citing an inability to get a conviction.

Yes you're right. Doerman is freaking out about getting life in prison. He is so scared he already asked the first judge he saw to give him protection! This is why I don't want him getting the death penalty it's a easy way out for him. He'll get protection until the day they take his life. Although he'd rather get diagnosed with being insane so he never steps foot in a prison. If that fails he wants the death penalty!! Doerman is terrified of other prisoners he knows what's coming his way.

You mean like Chris Watts? Nothing will happen to either of them, they have protection and are babied by the prison gaurds because the state knows family will sue if they get so much as a scratch.
This is a fantasy I see often in Internet comment sections, but it just isn't true. Chris Watts and hundreds of thousands of other child killers are alive and well in prison. The other prisoners like Chris and call him the pastor.

I have to wonder is there ever a point when a defense lawyer just has to go home at the end of the day and puke their guts out because they are required by law to defend people like this? Or do they just get numb to it?
Sometimes, the goal is less about proving innocence and more about getting a lesser sentence. Still a rough gig though. I bet the money helps.
They have to do their job well to be sure there is no mistrial and the conviction will stick.

Remember that neighbours said all they ever heard was this guy screaming and yelling at his wife and kids. He was controlling and abusive and I assume he sensed her days of putting up with it were coming to an end so he did that to hurt her.
Was he ever evaluated? was he self medicating with alcohol or drugs? did he refuse taking meds for his delusions? lots of questions that need answered for other families in the same situations. Perfect case study...study of his brain.

@marcust123 no the detective said he asked for 2 people that were laywers but turned out neither of them were laywers.
also he said give a a day or 2 and I'll speak to a lawyer and get some answers didn't u hear that..

He was completely coherent and able to provide an accurate account of events upon arrival of police at the scene. That isn't consistent with him being in a state of psychosis or mania.
His wife and stepdaughter witnessed the entire thing. For him to claim he didn’t do it it ridiculous.
Him constantly changing his plea says he definitely knows what is wrong. You don't just land on not guilty by reason of insanity after pleading not guilty (as in saying he didn't kill them at all) I hope the jury uses common sense in their decision
When he was being cuffed, he was very aware of where the daughter had gone. He said, im not guna hurt no one.
Kinda looks more like he knew exactly what he was doing, so once it was done, there was no need to hurt anyone else.

He probably didn't want to pay child support and thought he would get off lightly for being mentally ill.
I hope he's been getting some 'jailhouse justice' while he's been incarcerated, but I doubt it, since one of the first things he requested was not to be housed in general population.
He wants to be protected, unlike how he treated his sons.
If he's on death row he'll have his own cell, bathroom, shower, and rec time. The other inmates won't even see him.
