    This is amazing. Would you consider selling a set of “prints” for the armature? I am going to build one this winter.

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  4 года назад +8

      Thanks! I don’t have any blueprints for the armature. The armature really just mimics the bone structure, so you only need to print out top, side, and maybe bottom views of the cranium, which you can easily find in a google image search. Good luck.

    Unbelievable :0
    How about slice it in half and add the internals along with the muscles and the skin for one side and then join it back together?
    This way you could see the internals through the holes in the other part that is skull only 😃
    Something like that came across my mind after watching this.
    Even in the smaller scale it would be awesome I think.

    Hi Mike, would be willing to share what type of wire you did use. I want to start a similar project and would like to have a good structural foundation. Thank you for sharing your amazing project! This turned out more then just good... simply amazing.

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  5 месяцев назад

      It's aluminum wire thick enough to hold its shape well. As long as you can bend it easily and it hold its shape, just about any wire will do.

    Thanks voor this upload, i made a skull with some of your technieks but i used polymer clay (airdrying)....looking good (90 cm long and 11 kilo for the upper halve of the skull).

    I love it!! I want to make one for my ball python enclosure but i was wondering can it be made with tin foil instead of wire?

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! Yes, you can use foil. My skull is almost 2 feet long and I wanted some sturdy wire as support to keep it from falling in on itself. But if foil can support what you're putting on it, use that instead.

    • @bbbuns3206
      @bbbuns3206 5 лет назад

      Im building it for my ball python enclosure. And i wish you showed how you made this step by step in a video instead of pictures of the progress.... How did you make the roof of the mouth and brain cavity? I want it to look as real as possible

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  5 лет назад

      Yeah, the video is more of an overview of the process. But, @0:15 you can see a wire running down the center to support the palate. Tape was used to bridge the palate from this wire to the maxillae, etc. Then, the area was strengthened with paper mache/clay. Same for the brain case (wire form, tape, clay), which you can see @0:16. What you really need to know is the form of the skull bones so that you can replicate. I have a digital model I built that you can see from any angle on SketchFab: skfb.ly/6HDCU

    Looks great, what material did you use over the shop towels?

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  4 года назад

      It's paper clay. There are recipes for it all over YT. It's cheap to make and very hard, but porous and not waterproof. That's why I covered it with that liquid resin stuff.

    • @mickyjaguar2282
      @mickyjaguar2282 5 месяцев назад

      @@MikeGleason Hi Mike and abselute work of art. WELL DONE 👏👏 I have a question. Does the fibre glass resin make the clay more secure? Less likely to break?

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  5 месяцев назад

      @@mickyjaguar2282 Yes, I think it does make it much more sturdy and prevents chipping or crumbling. I don't think it would survive a drop onto a hard surface, though - especially those teeth.

    Did you print of the image of skull piece by piece on A4?

  • @Trymie98
    @Trymie98 5 лет назад

    Quick question if I may. Because it’s resin, is it water proof? Also how strong is it? This may sound crazy, but if I did this could I accidentally bang it on a wall and it be ok?

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, I covered it in resin specifically to make it waterproof. The wire armature makes it really sturdy; it would easily survive accidental banging around, but it might chip pieces off.

      Did you use different types of papier mache?
      after finishing the structure, what kind of paper did you use? (The blue)

    • @MikeGleason
      @MikeGleason  4 года назад +1

      The type of paper really doesn't matter as long as it isn't too stiff. The blue stuff is something called shop towels; it's a type of paper towel used in workshops. Some people build up the form using aluminum foil and put paper mache over it to smooth it out. It's OK to experiment with different materials.

      I mostly build digital 3D models in the computer, so I just took some screen captures of a digital model I had already built. Check out SketchFab or similar sites to find a model and capture various views and print them out. I built this by hand because 3D printing is ridiculously expensive unless you only want something that is few inches long.
