      Which mesmerises me because:
TL:DR GW's worst enemy is GW.
      Books are not available...
You can't recommend your favourite novel to someone because it's been sold out for what seems like forever😢
Compare that with the likes of something like Patrick Rufus, Stephen King, George R. Martin, Frank Herbert or J.K. Rowling and I assure you'll find what you're looking for. Albeit with the ugliest cover ever conceived
comparing ebooks to physical ones doesn't help either. It's like comparing apples to pears, they aren't everyone's taste more so with people trying to reduce screen time and working on habits and stuff
Black library prices don't feel right, and humble bundles won't include as many recommendations, they feel more like for people that go down the rabbit hole on their long list of fixations. I would now. So bundles end like poor man's choice sometimes or that commutes a lot or both

I do miss how the Necrons used to have that neon green translucent plastic for their weapons. I would see it all the time on the completed models in the hobby shop display case when I was a kid.
I spent a childhood too poor to get involved in the hobby, but on weekends my dad would take me to the local hobby shop to browse, mainly so he could look at the train kits and RC planes. I would spend all of that time in the Games Workshop area, studying all of the boxes. This was the late 90's, so I got to see some cool stuff. I never got to build or play, but I became pretty familiar with the product line. Occasionally I'd get a Warhammer novel or comic book.
Anyway, thanks for the Necron video. It obviously brought back some great memories, and as always you do an amazing job making the hobby look awesome.

Good stuff man. I’m currently in the same boat because I have these tyranid models from Leviathan that I just randomly decided to give a quick paint job to instead of getting rid of them. The “simple yet effective” method is exactly the push I need to get out of this backlog!

  • @Rolman3D
    @Rolman3D 2 месяца назад

I’m a Necrons 4th edition-7th edition player and I only just woke up from my great sleep of playing warhammer, I have completely fallen back in love with the game. Push fit was a game changer for me as I could paint each individual component of my models with confidence and minimal errors vs painting a pre assembled model that I couldn’t take apart. For a 1,000 point game I took a Doomstalker fully painted dissembled in its box for multiple days and then reassembled it when I needed to use it with no issues in under 5 minutes. The new models look so good. I converted all of my old warriors to new warriors using the spare gauss flayers and reapers that came with a sprue of warriors that I bought from eBay. I play the Mephrit dynasty and due to how little they were covered in the past, figuring out my paint scheme wasn’t so straight forward. Contrast paints are amazing in my opinion as I can now paint all of my Orange energy with far more confidence than before. I sold 1/2 of my old army for £400 then used that money to fully magnetise the bases or my minis and pickup for more minis

This had a lot of nice tips and I appreciate the message about being comforted with the knowledge that you can always go back and do more of the backlog. Its really hard in my opinion to balance the fact that this is a hobby meant for fun, where you should really only be doing things when you're enjoying them, with the natural desire to have built and painted armies. It can be challenging to know when to allow some models to stay unbuilt or unpainted when you really don't feel like putting work into them as opposed to building an excessive pile of shame.
    Nice video!

Fear has given way to excitement thanks to this video.

I got into Necrons in a different, but still related, way, in older days. I can remember when the Necron raiders appeared without much forewarning in White Dwarf as a new race a reimagining of the much older Chaos android. They gave a free metal Necron miniature with that issue, in a blister, which was great. That did the trick of course. I still love the old metal guys, even if they are quite different from the newer plastics, and even more Terminator-like. Also - nice, inspiring video, so thanks for getting me keen to dig them up again.

They have probably the easiest base color scheme out of any faction in the game, and it always looks good because most people who see a necrom can associate it with insert evil robot. My favorite necron scheme is the simple silver and red glow, but with overgrown vegitation for a newly awakening dynasty. The sky is the limit with necrons.

I usually prime them a major color, such as Mephiston Red for my World Eaters and then add a few accent colors, such as Runelord Brass for the staggering amount of trim on the minis and then something like Leadbelcher for their weapons and maybe some extra little details such as a Ultramarine helmet on the base, or the glow of the plasma on the gun.

Warhammer books use to do this to me..... ask Aaron Dembski Bowden about my Night Lords..... or Graham McNeil about my Iron Warriors. And don't get me started about Dan Abnett

Did you make those rocky terrain pieces in the final showcase yourself? Is there a video for how you did it if you did? I have 2K worth of Necrons from the Imperium Magazine subscription to build and paint myself. Awesome video.

My issue, aligned with this, is wanting to kitbash everything and so I end up with loads of random boxes of things left over and think to myself "well if I buy x, y and z I can convert those leftovers into something else!" and then when those are done I look at my spares and the cycle repeats...

Yeah, I just got the new Ordo Xenos box because it was all models I wanted to get at some point, and I have always wanted to do some kind of Inquisitorial retinue. They still don't have a lot of options, though, so list building has me leaning heavily on my old mostly firstborn space marines while trying to justify the WHY of not just running all the space marines that I can't even fit into a 2000 point list. Rule of cool, though, and Inquisitors are pretty cool. I just need to resist the urge to commit to buying any (more) Imperial guard in order to theme it like one of the Ciaphas Cain novels... the temptation is real.

If I'm splitting a box I'm asking around about it the week or two before preorder. Or even as soon as the box contents is made known. That way when we have the box in hand in the LGS we divide up the sprues right then. But this luxury comes from having a thriving local community. The only time I didn't do this was for Dark Vengeance because I didn't know that many people playing, and I got it a little bit after launch after its hype had faded.

Why I sold the Tyranid half of the Leviathan box the first chance I got to a FLGS last year. Space is getting tight already with the Space Marines I have, I can't handle a second army, let alone a horde one.
But boy did that World Eaters Christmas box last year and the new Blood Angels box tempt me something fierce.

I also think that things like the agents codex exist just to make imperial players splash into other imperial armies.
Play imperial guard? OK here's a few cool agents to add to your repertoire, just to supplement the guard army. A bit later you realize with just a few more models you can field 1k of Agents proper, so you get some grey knights/sisters/etc. You now have enough models in agents where you can likely fill a 1k army of other imperial forces with a combat patrol, especially if some of the agents units are also part of the new army (like SoB squad and immolator).
I had something similar happen to me with GSC, with my AM army I could (pre-codex) fill 1/4 of a barebones GSC list. From there it's an easy road to adding a model or unit here and there, and you got yourself a full range.

I honestly cant blame anyone who has started a Necron army during or after 9th ed without even really trying haha. Its one of the easiest armies to get on the board and has a very versatile range of mini's in terms of design and playability. Also helps, throughout 9th ed there were many accessible and cheap ways to get models for an army whether from box sets, magazines, and the second hand market. Its the army I started with in 8th ed and boy did I strike gold when 9th ed came lol. Im still coming off that high even in 10th ed with several box sets and individual sets still waiting to be unboxed and painted for my 10k point army.
