    This man’s way of turning anything into rusty metal is certainly something.

    • @LeBoomStudios
      @LeBoomStudios 4 года назад +8

      Don't know if he sees this, but here goes some constructive criticism:
      I think the metal parts look a little too uniform. Like, it all looks rusted in the same way. You'd expect them to be made of different metals that rust in different ways, also the structures that were already there would be more heavily rusted and deteriorated than what has been added over time.
      Other than that, great effing work, really love it.

    • @jbsamuel359

      Maybe it doesn't translate well on terrain, maybe it'll look a bit miss-matched. Good point though!

      @@LeBoomStudios I see your point and it has been a thoight at the back of my brain. If he was not so uniform in his rust washing or painted each structure a different base coat it woild look really amazing.
      Watch his Shanty Town build video, I think something in between this and that would look really good. Also, some of his builds include lighting, usually tea lights, but I think nearly all of his structures could really benefit from some mood lighting from some well placed LEDs.
      Don't get me wrong, his terrain are fricken' awesome and I don't think (or know) that I could do any better. I just think there is room for improvement, its very tiny, but it's there. 😃

    Please order through Eric's channel. I ordered chip board and did NOT order through his channel and got thin, flimsy chip board. Also when he says be careful with your cutting tools he really says something important. My carpet knife slipped when I was cutting and I almost gave myself an appendectomy! Just a poke, no blood but it hurt!. I've built 3 of his builds and also made my own battle mat. Love this channel! Go Eric! Hope you're enjoying being a Dad.

    If you want to have chipped metal, you can use toothpaste as a masking fluid. A thin layer can be laid down and allowed to dry, and then painted over. Dried toothpaste is very crumbly and an old toothbrush can be used to wipe it away without scratching off any extra paint.

    I would love to know how long a project like this actually takes you, for the sake of my sanity. I spend hours putting together some really basic barricades that look like they were made in a 9-year-old's art class at summer camp, but in 30 minutes I've watched you transform a cardboard tube, a plastic container, and a bunch of cardboard into a professional-level diorama.

    The salt chipping method is a tiny bit easier than you think and could have been used on this model. Instead of hairspray you use a tiny amount of water to make the salt stick and afterwards you just brush it off with a stiff brush. At least that is how other people on RUclips do it, I have not tried it myself. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

    Another great build! I think that my favorite detail is the wires, they look strung in exactly the sort of way someone would do in a real hideout, power lines from the common generator draped over beams and hung from the catwalks, the actual craftsmanship of your builds is always great but it's your eye for selling the realism with small details like that that really puts you out ahead of the pack. I like the use of colors on this way, I think having the worn down flaking remnants of bright paint showing through the rust and grime sells the decay of the setting. Great work!

    • @EricsHobbyWorkshop
      @EricsHobbyWorkshop  4 года назад +4

      Thanks man. The drooping wires definitely adds to the silhouette. One thing i always think about when crafting the underhive is there have to be things to go UNDER. This helps the built up hive feel. I also try to think about where pipes and wires are going logically to a certain extent. I’m glad if it looks right to you

    If you mixed that elmer's/white glue with paint to achieve the desired color, you could drizzle it/let it run down the side of a tank or pool it on the ground to make it look like a leak/spill, and the glue would really give it volume

    Just simply incredible! I think the painted tanks add a different kind of weathering to the model that gives it a realistic look to it. I always learn something new from your builds. Thanks for making this neat tutorial and sharing it.

    Hi Eric,
    I'm fairly new to your channel and I have to say that I love watching you bring these builds to life...
    With regards to the hairspray and salt method, you don't have to use water, just remove it the same way you do now, also, I hate the smell of hairspray so I use a small brush and the glue from a glue stick, it's not as strong as white glue etc and holds the salt in place while you add other layers over the top, then when your ready, just scrap away...
    Please keep these videos coming Sir...
    Keep safe and sell...
    John...

    Wow!!!! Amazing!!! I love the colors you added. It's still dystopian, but it really breaks up the subdued color scheme

    Love the video and build, one tip I'd add, don't use styrene rod for rivet's, grab a leather working tool for making small holes and punch a bunch of them from a sheet of styrene, you don't have to chase a bunch of flying ones and if you make the holes close enough you end up with pieces you can paint up as rusted metal.

    These necromunda builds would be great for the post apocalyptic shantuly towns and raider hide outs in Fallout too.

      @@EricsHobbyWorkshop Yuuup! Countless hours in the 80s building with Construx - Official construction material of GI Joe custom forts.
      Probably explains why I have a storage closet full of home made terrain as an adult lol.
      Nice work Mr.Eric - thats a bonafide hideout.

    What i would do is a tiny bit of drybrushing on the corrugated cardboard with different colours. This just adds some more character to them and is a pretty easy and simple way to add some paint chipping to them. And it would break up the shanty buildings

    Awesome as usual Eric! A bit of a long watch, but I love to see and hear the step by step thought process as you're creating these. It makes it nice to go back later and grab little ideas here and there for other projects too. This is such a cool and underappreciated form of art and it's really neat to see the artist at work. Solid job.

    Great terrain out of scraps and bits. I think a bit of rubble in the corners on the ground with some trash mixed in for color would look better. Also, some awnings out of tissue/toilet paper hanging for sun shades would really be an eye catcher to the overall piece.

    This build is just awesome mate. I loved the paint and chipping on the tanks, and all the little details. Can't wait to try out something like this in the future, not sure I'll be confident enough to 'just wing it' though haha. Thanks for the video Eric, they're always full of great information.
