Holy, the transition from slapping a bunch of paint around the model to the end result what quite astonishing. At first I thought you were messing around and then it started to blend and come together for the end result. Makes me think of Sergio Calvo who does something along those lines. Great work!

Usually, I sit back and watch videos about products with some skepticism but this video in particular was amazing! Do more videos like this! It's quite possibly my favourite thing you've done. Watching you talk us through and trying to reproduce the styles and palettes of other artists/painters would be brilliant.
Amazing looking model, very much inspiring me to decide to step out of my comfort zone of "mass production" style painting I have always been sitting myself in out of fear of not knowing what I am doing and and looking to buy the sets for my own Death Korps when they come. I always loved Blanches style and to see a relatively "safe" way to get into it is great as someone who cant buy 200 paints they never use. I would love to see you do a similar paint job on the other Death Korps models such as the engineers and artillery in this style too.
really love that colors that initially were confusing as additions became clear in their harmony as soon as you use them. Really shows how talented an artist Blanch is. Thanks Ninjon. Following your videos made me a better painter. Experimenting and having fun is the key. This rider comes straight out of a dust storm. I bet he could trigger a Geiger counter.
I just pre ordered both sets. Id love to see some painting tutoris from blanche or even AP staff (as long as they are teaching HIS techniques specific to using these paints) Im not really into what modern mini painters "call" Grimdark (models covered in oil/enamel washes, looking very dingy. With intentionally sloppy painting techniqie to give a build up of texture almost akin to how real canvas painters build up layers of paint to create visual effects etc..sometimes it looks great but often just too muddy for me.) I play grey knights and ultrasmurfs, both of which are proud clean imperial astartes that i want portrayed moreso how propoganda eould show them) However, these grimdark zorn pallete type paint selections are 100% up my alley. You dont have to make super dirty models for dark blues, greens, olive etc.. or the ruddy brown/ochres to stand out.
@@overlordmarkusThat would be great. Id love to see some techniques to use these on miniatures from JB. Im also curious about the free brush they included in the sets. The brush is labelled as "Dipits most magnificentest brush" (dipit is their red gobbo type goblin mascot). Wonder if its actually any decent. One of your best episodes in my opinion. Really enjoyed the freedom you used in using so many colors and watching such an artistic refinement process. I usually don’t invest in color sets, but this one seems really special. Blanchitsu!
Like many out there, I thought the whole "Blanchitsu" thing focused on cold, desaturated color schemes and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that was not the case. Then again, I'm not near the GW fanboy that some out there are, so it's to be expected that I didn't know that. That horsie looks great, Jon! Wet blending is another technique I've dabbled in that I'd like to improve at and yours is excellent, IMO.
In an interview, Rick priestly basically said, “when we were writing X book, I was ready to do away with crediting anyone specifically” (including himself,) but John stood firm and said, “do what you want with writers and designers, but the artists WILL be credited for their pieces.” Rick then decided to keep crediting everyone. So it was either John himself sticking to an industry standard at the time, or by sheer force of personality we know who did what back then. I imagine the people who GW employ with any force of personality today is more likely a lawyer than a creative. If they had a big talent matched with just as much personality, it would be nearly impossible to keep them contained in the corporate walls. Plus, look at the product. It’s very good and unless I’ve missed something, all very safe and controlled.
@@AP-hv9ll The sculptors were credited in the 2000s. Somewhere around 2010 or after they stopped doing so (so many famous sculptors left the company and founded their owns). And I don't understand why they do that, what is for them to lose
@@andresperedo1275 Honestly I can see the reason why, it's twofold, one the one hand it's to stop people from getting popular off the back of their work from GW and going and establishing their own brands, and the other is to make it harder for people being tracked down by the community when they make something that angry fans don't like. If you look at Duncan Rhodes, he managed to turn producing painting tutorials for GW's youtube channel into not only his own independent venture, but also came out with a personally branded paint range. GW don't want to lose talent by basically acting as a springboard for people to gain popularity and start producing their own brands that eat into GW's market share. The protection from fans one is a bit iffy, but nowadays when everyone has a social media and is easy to find, and people get genuinely riled up over mini designs changing, it's understandable.
I am not really sure what to say... except that this looks bonkers good! Absolutely amazing! I can't wrap my head around the way you used those colours but the result is mind blowing 🤯 This is quite far from the models I usually admire, but I actually think this might be the coolest paintjob I have ever seen 👌 I am painting armies on not models, so I am not sure I will need all of these paints, but some of them will definately find their way onto my painting desk 👍
Wow, stunning result. What a wonderful confluence of mini, paint, inspiration and artist! Also you provide extremely clear insight into your creative process, which is a tough thing to do. Great video, I'm subscribing for sure.
Every time I try and pull something like this paint scheme i end up messing it up and not getting the result I really wanted. Love your videos, they always make me push myself... can't wait to get my hands on these paints and push my skills to beyond a noob painter.
This was easily the most inspiring hobby video I have seen in years! Jon, it would be fun to see another one using these paints where you revisit painting grimdark with these colors, and what you think should be added to this set that also matches the color scheme. (Enamels, Oils and texture?)
Hey Jon - I found this style of painting very inspiring - thank you for sharing. I now want to try slapping on some colors onto my models, then working up the shadows and highlights to see what kind of cool artistic effects will emerge. I suck at color schemes - so that may be the only thing that stops me. Maybe I should just be brave.
I've seen several videos using this new set of paints. Jon, yours really shows how fantastic these paints are! Great job. Can't wait to get my hands on these box sets.
It took me seeing these being used to actually paint a model to "get" the colour choices. This looks really, really good. Also, the grim rust bottle looks like a Sriracha bottle.
Excellent video. Ironically the main takeaway for me was the idea to view your minis in less-than-ideal lighting to see if you've successfully highlighted them. I was sitting in my hobby space with low-lights, so I picked up a few of my WIPs while the video was rolling and saw the areas that needed more highlights. In my ideal lighting, I had thought that they were already super punched up but clearly not!
That was such an amazing model! I can’t get over how awesome that paint job is. I’m sure that the set helped in terms of color selection, but your application of those colors is jaw-dropping.
The colors look as though they are based off the Zorn pallette. I used to paint portraits only with the Zorn pallette with the inclusion of Prussian blue.
It could use some leopard print or tiger stripes for a blanch mini but otherwise looks awesome :D I'm so glad John got his own paint set, its about damn time! now we just need a Miller pen or inks set...
I love how it came out and it was amazing how all the colors played so well together. The only part that didn't make much sense to me was the neck of the horse in the back as it came too warm compared with the rest, but that is just me. And as always, a really enjoyable video, thanks!!!

I can't wrap my head around the way you used those colours but the result is mind blowing 🤯 This is quite far from the models I usually admire, but I actually think this might be the coolest paintjob I have ever seen 👌
I am painting armies on not models, so I am not sure I will need all of these paints, but some of them will definately find their way onto my painting desk 👍
wow, what a nice paint job on this model! Great color scheme!
The miniature is absolutely nuts but the paint work it’s astonishing!!! Big inspiration 💪💪
Those colors are really fantastic! And we'll painted model too🎉🎉
Wow, stunning result.
Just wow. Really enjoyed this video and you have inspired me to change how I paint. Thank you
Hey Jon - I found this style of painting very inspiring - thank you for sharing.
Hey there Ninjon! I love the way you painted this kriegsman, keep up the good work I love watching your videos while I paint after a long day!
That's a spectacular piece ! I really love it and I will do my best to paint something in this manner.
Wow, Jon - that looks fantastic! You're skill is improving with each and every model - kudos.
Amazing result!!! Really impressed and surprised by the mix of colors used!!! I need to try that on my next figure!!!
Gawd how good would a fully themed and painted army look on the tabletop. Like a Blanche painting in 3D. Well done Ninjon, one of your best!
Honestly one of the best models you've painted. Stellar effort and the best video that shows what these paint sets can produce.
You rock!!! This paint job is another level!!! 😍
absolutely beautiful work, a fine tribute to blanche while the end result is still clearly ninjon.
kudos!
Been watching for years - definitely my favourite paint scheme! Well done sir!
I've never wanted to use army painter but these have blown me away they look absolutly amazing and I can't wait to buy them
I have been exclusively using army paints since the fanatic range. Minus a few colors, I think it's easily the best paint on the market right now.
Man it was YOUR take on this painting set I was waiting for to pull the trigger 🎉
One of the best paint jobs I've seen on your channel. Amazing work!
Great looking paints, amazing paint job! But of course, expect nothing less! 🤘🏼🔥🔥🤘🏼
Thanks for the great demo and review of these sets. I am looking forward to playing around with these!
It’s sorta weird that I enjoyed the “ad” part of this so much 😂 the terrain prints look amazing! Oh and the folding terrain is genius.
Yeah, was surprised to see these paint sets come out but happy to see them. Lucky you on the new DKK models..
Great to see a review using the product as intended and explaining it as you go. Excellent
Wow, very nice! You used a painting style I can't remember the name of, that I think is really neat.
It took me seeing these being used to actually paint a model to "get" the colour choices. This looks really, really good.
Also, the grim rust bottle looks like a Sriracha bottle.
Jon that is reaaaaaally special. You made it yours and honored the inspiration!
Love this paint job. Now I want to start a new army and buy more paints… just what I need 😂
That was great. Kind of wild seeing how messy that first batch of painting is, but how it all works so well.
Love the way you mixed and match the paints, love this stil .. can't do it myself I get to hung up.
This range is stunning.....well my wallet is ready.... and crying...well done @TheArmyPainter and very well painted @Ninjon 😂😂😂😂
It could use some leopard print or tiger stripes for a blanch mini but otherwise looks awesome :D
I'm so glad John got his own paint set, its about damn time!
now we just need a Miller pen or inks set...
Hey ninjon I’m about to build my first painting/airbrush area could you go over what your favorite things to use for airbrush like you did 2 years ago
Been excited about these sets. Nice to see a review that truly demonstrates what they can achieve!
I love how it came out and it was amazing how all the colors played so well together. The only part that didn't make much sense to me was the neck of the horse in the back as it came too warm compared with the rest, but that is just me. And as always, a really enjoyable video, thanks!!!
Easily one of my favorite pieces you've painted. Amazing.
what a awesome piece. my socks are literally in a outer space right now.
great video.
That came out really really nice!! The enjoyment came through in the art.
Holy cow, Jon. Just... wow. You have completely changed the way I think about color.
