I have to say Painting with others is the greatest. Its why I love having a wife who is also in the hobby. We've been busy of late so not much painting but last time we went to visit my parents this spring we both took a kill team project with us and some paint and worked on painting at nights after our son (4) was in bed while watching TV with my mom and dad. I got basically 75% of a Death Guard roster finished and then finished up the last 25% at home afterwords and my wife got maybe 40% of her blooded done but her paint scheme was much more complicated than mine is why that happened.
I've been enamored by Warhammer for a while now since I started playing the Total War: Warhammer games. I've finally asked for a Warhammer miniature kit for Christmas and have all of my starter supplies ready to go. Content like this has really helped me compartmentalize the seemingly daunting tasks of building and painting a miniature.
That's pretty impressive for the amount of models you had to tackle. I would love to see a follow up, maybe in a year or so, showing those little details being added, to really make this army pop.
At some point I plan on sitting down and really pushing some of these models. Especially some of the larger ones that really need that extra attention. Whenever that happens, I will definitely be filming the process :)

WoW impressive project ! Thank you buddy for sharing it ! Thus it’s satisfying to see real friends sharing time on a common project ! Thanks to Beau :)
Whenever I buy used minis off Ebay, and I do fairly regularly, the two biggest issues I run into are bad gluing and over-priming. I pretty much expect to have to take apart, (Unless it is hopelessly superglued or cemented) strip the paint, clean mold lines, and then reassemble and paint. The bane of my existence is the overuse of that GW plastic cement or having to chisel off layers of superglue. Then there's over-priming. LA's Totally Awesome works great on most paints, but has hit or miss affect on primers. And I'm talking to the point where it obscures detail and nothing short of 90% rubbing alcohol will dissolve it. I'm sure you also have your tough cases.
There have been quite a few tough cases on the channel. Sometimes you just get unlucky and have to put in the work to cut away glue and work extra hard to get most of the primer off. The sonic cleaner does help quite a bit, but for the really tough ones I usually end up painting them to match whatever damage the model has, to try and hide the worst of it. Battle damage goes a long way if there are things you can't actually fix. Otherwise I'll try and replace parts and convert the model to get around that stuff. You never know what will be under that paint, but I have to say that most of the models I have gotten on ebay have been on the better side of things, even with lots of paint covering everything.
That is a lot of models to knock out in the time so finding a time efficient approach is everything, but they do look very effective as well. Great job, thanks for sharing.
what you said about ‚room for growth‘ was exactly what i thought when i started my first army :) get them away from grey, but dont half ass it, just basecoat everything and go back later when you built better skills
an awesome tip i got for the glow on necrons or plasma guns, is a white oil wash. that way, the recesses are the lightest part, selling the glow. tjen airbrush contrast over it.
Even though I started making two Chaos kill teams (I was confused and got some normal CSM and Thousand Sons), the Indomitus release and the relative ease of painting them made them great to learn with, so they're my first army to get to a full 2000 points. They're so much fun, though the little arms and cables of a few of them are a pain to glue!
Amazing collection, love the variety! I just picked up my first Recruit Edition box recently (Ironically, not for the Necrons at all) and will definitely be expanding my own necron collection
I think people go in phases of what they consider "not pro" techniques, or "only for beginners". Drybrushing is amazing and can do so much work for army painting. Honestly anyone who says a technique is bad, or not as good as something else is just trying to gatekeep the hobby. Airbrushing goes through the same kinds of ups and downs, some people resort to calling it cheating, I think drybrushing is in the same kind of camp.
Dry brushing is actually a bit tricky to get right... Most people do it wrong (I would say at least 80%) and it makes the results very inconsistent. You have to balance the level of moisture and paint exactly right, which takes a lot of practice to learn.
@@ThatWildcardya know I've always considered techniques like that to be more realistic with its randomness. I've always found introducing a lil chaos into the paint job just adds that fuzz of realism that's hard to get otherwise.
This is the same scheme I chose when Necrons came out 21 years ago. My blue was less saturated and the bases where more reddish orange (probably Flesh Wash), but basically the same. Since sold them, but great memories remain.

First of all I love your videos and have been watching for a while now. I'd love to get a tutorial on how to test color schemes like you show in this video on your image program. Maybe if you have one you referenced to learn how that would be super helpful. or Making your own video would be great too. Thanks man. Keep up these awesome videos.
I've got an outline for a video started, nothing done as of yet, but sometime! The program is Photoshop, just turning down the opacity of the brush and going over a picture of a grey model with some color. It works pretty well :)
That's a cool scheme. While the effect isn't quite the same on the finished models, on the photoshop color test, the blue scheme reminded me a lot of the Spooky Space Kook from scooby-doo.
I just want you to know that I've shaken hands with Brann Dailor. Six years later, I still haven't washed that hand. Anyway, these are really great-looking Necrons. Once you started to add the metallic on top of the blue, it really started to come together and I'm very impressed with the result
Thanks!! I do love me some Mastodon! Brann comments on my videos from time to time, which totally blows my mind. But I've never met him, or any of the other guys, in person before. I agree, the "cleanup" drybrush step was the thing that made me feel at ease about the paint job, it really did the trick :)
Thanks! Yeah my wife is very supportive :) Of course, we plan these things out so it's not an issue, I don't just tell her I'll be working all night, communication is still important lol.
When I painted a necron models I went for a silver for the armour with pink for the energy and turquoise for any "clothing" that the necron had. I then put it on a astrogranite base that was shaded a dark blue with snow on top. it's interesting the see what other people have done with their necrons
The glow effect does look pretty great and I'm biased towards blue and the classic green too. That said and as I'm sure you know, it does seem pretty fast and dirty. Still successful, especially in such a short amount of time, but some of the heroes and vehicles could use another pass and that's a job for another day. Personally, I'd make all their symbology dark gold and add a layer of rust wash in the non-glowing joints to make it feel like they rose up out of the ground.
Not gonna lie here, dude but I am getting strong Scoody Doo vibes from this look! Like the "Space Kook" + "Ghost of Captain Kutler". Not that that is a bad thing, just find it funny =) Keep up the awesome work!

He likes the scheme so I’m glad about that. One thing though, was the Silent King missing? I saw his pedestal, but not him or his servants.
This video makes me wanna talk about my necrons. So I will. I imagined mine being interred on a tombworld that over the 1000s of years they were intombed became this lush tropical paradise, the issue? The tombs are now under water and so parts of the tomb got flooded. My thoughts was since the Necrons ran on a caste system the basic troops ended up getting flooded while the vehicles had a bit more defense and the overlords or higher had the most. When they awakened they climb up out of the salty ocean water and begin to rust, well the infantry anyways. So I painted them up as terminators at first then i added ruse like "oooooooh this will be fun" and and the rust itself is random too!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I'd be happy to tag you in a few pics to show off some of the completed ones on twitter. I am extremely proud of how one of the overlords came out.
They look great! Necrons were my first army and I miss them. Been a long time fan of both you and warhammer. Been wondering lately what Airbrush do you use. I really wanna learn how to use one
That first army feeling never really goes away! luckily I still have most of mine, some have been lost through the years, but still. I've been using the H&S Infinity CR+, specifically the Angel Giraldez model. But if you're looking to jump in and start learning then you would do well to look at a Badger Patriot 105. That's been a very nice brush for me for the last few years and I always recommend it to anyone who wants to start airbrushing.
I've got some kind of tutorial in the works, not sure when it will be done, but the program is Photoshop. Just bring in a picture of a grey mini and then create a color layer over the top to brush on whatever color you want. It definitely works really well for visualizing colors, even if it's not super close to the end result :)
Looks great! Did you consider using the Golden High Flow fluorescent green? Super quick, and it airbrushes well to give a great glow effect, especially under the right lighting.
I have mixed Vallejo Metal Color Duraluminium (or whichever one you like), with the Phtalo Blue Green Shade ink from Liquitex, instead of putting the ink over the metallic paint with great results. That could have been more efficient in this case as well.
Hey, can anyone explain to me what program is being used at 8:40, and how I might be able to do what he's doing? I think that would be useful for me to help decide my colour schemes. Thanks in advance.
Soooo, looking at your background I was wondering if those walls are chalkboard painted walls. If they are, cool, if not I'd think it would be fun if you did that. Especially if you would then let your kids draw on them. It would liven up the background and make them feel like a part of your videos/channel/hobby.
That would be cool, but they aren't specifically painted with chalkboard paint, just a matte black. That would be fun though, and I do have several other walls that need paint!
Great video and love the paint scheme, I haven't painted necrons in a while, I need to add some to my to do stash, question though how is it your still using a paper towel to wick off paint for your dry brushing? I had thought youd be using a texture palette. Also how is the finger, I see your using it but still with a plaster, that just a protective measure?
Thanks! The new Necron models are super cheap these days and definitely worth picking up. Really fun to paint too! The old paper towel for the drybrush still works for me, no need for a texture palette. I've also heard that having one of those can actually make your drybrushing go bad. The paint builds up over time on the surfaces of the palette and you end up getting dust and particles from old work into your drybrush without realizing it. That logic makes enough sense for me not to make one of my own. The finger is much better, thank you for asking! But, still not fully healed. The bandage is honestly there to cover it up for the camera lol, and to protect it to a certain extent, but it would be bad to show in a video so It will stay covered up until it's finally good to go. Painting is much better though, I can at least use the tip of my finger to steady the brush!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues great to hear about the finger, no need to take unnecessary chances, and the texture palette you have to prime it before use, I picked up one cheap off Ebay but find myself using it and paper towel out of habit lol. Definitely looking at some necrons for the display cabinet, did an Indomitus necron overlord few months ago, that was fun. Take care and cant wait for your next rescue.
I just discovered this channel today and have been watching a lot of videos. This was at least a year ago from the time of me posting this. Has he even followed up with that extra detail work on these since then?
First off, welcome to the hobby! Things can be overwhelming when you start painting, and I know that fear of messing up very well. Luckily there are some amazing resources out there to help. I highly recommend watching this video from my friend Brent over at Goobertown, he put together one of the best beginner painting guides out there. ruclips.net/video/v-BlVYFxfRA/видео.html Second, and it's a bit shameless, check out the Paint Bravely the Podcast, it might have some good nuggets in there that will help :) www.youtube.com/@paintbravelythepodcast I hope those things help! Just keep trying new things and remember that it's just paint. You can always strip it off and try again!
This was a big one for sure! The airbrush was great. No need for breaks really. Each section was maybe at most 90 minutes of work. So it never got too hot or started to have any issues. I did need to clean the brush probably every 15 minutes, just from the amount of paint that was going through it, but the H&S brushes are super easy to clean out, so it was never too big of an issue. The metallic paint gave me the most trouble, but the high flow paint and inks weren't too bad.
I haven't added it all up yet, but I think it's something like 3K points worth. I need to check because I'd like to get a game in soon, so I'm gonna add it up real soon!
I recently got into warhammer and painting some of my models. Theyre turning out OK, as someone with very little starting skill can say is ok, and im gonna keep painting and trying new things. But i am not good at visualizing colors. At around the 9 minute mark i see you filling color into a picture of the model and im curious what the software youre using is called to i can use it as well?
Welcome to the hobby!!! Don't worry about how your minis look right now, just have fun with the process and keep learning, you'll get the hang of it quicker than you think. The program I was using was Photoshop. I just bring in a picture of grey mini off of google and brush colors over the top. Pretty handy for visualizing how colors can go together on a model, not perfect, but it does the job.
Curious if there is a chance to rescue Noise Marines for not an army, but a small choir and consort of various instruments, such as 1 with a Vuvuzela, a flute, guitar, drums, an Organ, and maybe some Dj equipment?
I didn't treat the sand I use, but I did let it sit outside for a few weeks to make sure it dried out. If you intend to use it right away it would be a good idea to bake it, you never know what kind of bugs are in that kind of sand! It's great stuff though, I've been using the same Tupperware bucket for almost 5 years now and I've barely made a dent in it!
Thanks! I can't remember if I said it or not lol, either way, it took probably 20ish hours to finish with help. My buddy Beau was there for a couple of days, only one of them was full, and we knocked it out. Definitely something you could do with some friends on a weekend!
About how many points is that army?? I am about to do the Necron battle patrol, now you have me thinking about that transparent blue. I really like that look.
You could also have gone with a sky/earth scheme with blue from the top and (a desaturated version of) the color of the earth from below. Would have broken up the uniformity of the metallic.
Welcome to the hobby! I was using photoshop to paint in the colors. A very helpful thing to do if you need to test out some colors, albeit not exactly the same as the final outcome, but seeing the overall look is helpful.
Hello Casey, I would like to ask what solvent do you use with your ultrasonic cleaner? I'm still tootbrushing my secondhand minis after an isopropyl alcohol bath, but this week i've decided that i will buy an ultrasonic cleaner. Though I'm not sure what solvent need to fill it up, some web pages claimes with destilled water, some with a mixture of 50% vinegar+50% water+few drops of washing liquid. Now my head is in full chaos, and i would like to ask a professional before i make something stupid. (many sources claimed do not use IPA for ultrasonic cleaner) Can you help me out with an advice? Thanks so much!
Awesome! Welcome to the ultrasonic club :) I use a concentrated degreaser called LA's Totally Awesome. It works really well and is very inexpensive to get in the US. Anything similar will work pretty well too. Purple power, simple green, any kind of concentrated degreaser, but LA's has been the best for me. Just pour it right into the cleaner and drop in some minis! I definitely don't recommend iso in the sonic cleaner, one spark and you've got a tank full of very flammable liquid just sitting right there. Better safe than sorry Hope that helps!!
Only in the sense that some of these boxes were suuuper old and needed to be let out! Probably 1/4 of the whole army was sort of painted, and several models needed repairs, so that was the backbone of the project, although I could have shown it more. The building and trying to finish the army became a bigger focus though. mostly because of how much of it there was to do.

Ok I'd like to see a tutorial on what software/how you colored that mock up. Convenient!
I've got some kind of tutorial in the works, not sure when it will be done, but the program is Photoshop. Just bring in a picture of a grey mini and then create a color layer over the top to brush on whatever color you want. It definitely works really well for visualizing colors, even if it's not super close to the end result :)
Very very sucessful paint job! goshdarn
Well done on 100k subs
Thanks!!! I can't believe we got there, it's hard to wrap my head around.
Looks great! Did you consider using the Golden High Flow fluorescent green? Super quick, and it airbrushes well to give a great glow effect, especially under the right lighting.
Congrats on 100K !! :D
Thank you so much 😀
I have that same inflames shirt was sick to see them play live in Webster hall last year
Nice! Yeah I picked mine up in Reno when they came through. Really good show!
I didn’t know necrons could look that cool! Where’s the Silent King? His throne appears to be empty at the end
Thanks! Yeah the king is taking a break...I didn't quite finish putting him and his retinue together lol.
I have mixed Vallejo Metal Color Duraluminium (or whichever one you like), with the Phtalo Blue Green Shade ink from Liquitex, instead of putting the ink over the metallic paint with great results. That could have been more efficient in this case as well.
That's a good call, and yeah it would have saved a ton of time lol, where were you last week when I needed that info!!!!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues 😂 next time you go for a similar scheme, you can give it a go!
Well done sirs. 😎👍
WOOHOO! Necron love!
Huge efforts!
This just tickles my nec-rolls
Great job man keep it,also where’s the silent king on his throne?
Love to see you do a dwarf army from Warhammer fantasy
I've got a ton of them waiting for paint. Someday :)
I just discovered this channel today and have been watching a lot of videos. This was at least a year ago from the time of me posting this. Has he even followed up with that extra detail work on these since then?
I love a good rescue
I wanted to ask, do you have a series to show how to paint for beginners? I'm hoping to start painting but I'm a bit worried of messing up
First off, welcome to the hobby! Things can be overwhelming when you start painting, and I know that fear of messing up very well. Luckily there are some amazing resources out there to help. I highly recommend watching this video from my friend Brent over at Goobertown, he put together one of the best beginner painting guides out there.

Second, and it's a bit shameless, check out the Paint Bravely the Podcast, it might have some good nuggets in there that will help :)
www.youtube.com/@paintbravelythepodcast
I hope those things help! Just keep trying new things and remember that it's just paint. You can always strip it off and try again!
Necron’s was my first army started in 07.
Great big project! Daamn
I starting my necron army yesterday
Perfect timing!
oh ja. i bought a 3000pkt army from a friend. + the imperium abo.@@eBayMiniatureRescues
Dale what a hero for sending this in!!
A true hobby hero indeed!
Hi what Basing color product did you use ?
In this video it was Light Rust from AK, from the pigment powder range. Sometimes I use Vallejo, they also make a nice orange.
Any idea how many points all that is?
I haven't added it all up yet, but I think it's something like 3K points worth. I need to check because I'd like to get a game in soon, so I'm gonna add it up real soon!
i have been looking for a skorpekh lord for months does anyone know a decently priced one also great video love seeing models being built up
I recently got into warhammer and painting some of my models.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues which photoshop app? There's a bunch
Which orange pigment powder did you use? Loving the orange.
I have a few that I like. Vallejo has a few rusty oranges that are great, but in this case I was using Light Rust from AK.
Curious if there is a chance to rescue Noise Marines for not an army, but a small choir and consort of various instruments, such as 1 with a Vuvuzela, a flute, guitar, drums, an Organ, and maybe some Dj equipment?
Never know! It all depends on what's out there hiding on ebay :)
So i have a random question, do you bake or treat your beach sand or use it as is?
I didn't treat the sand I use, but I did let it sit outside for a few weeks to make sure it dried out. If you intend to use it right away it would be a good idea to bake it, you never know what kind of bugs are in that kind of sand! It's great stuff though, I've been using the same Tupperware bucket for almost 5 years now and I've barely made a dent in it!
It's probably here somewhere, but what was the estimated start to finish time? Great video BTW. :)
I haven't even added it up yet. I need to because I want to use this army in a game pretty soon, but my guess is at least 3000 points worth.
You could also have gone with a sky/earth scheme with blue from the top and (a desaturated version of) the color of the earth from below. Would have broken up the uniformity of the metallic.
What computer program did you use in this video to pre-plan your color scheme? New to the hobby and that would be very helpful.
I'm asking the same. Commenting so I can see the answer as well.
Welcome to the hobby! I was using photoshop to paint in the colors. A very helpful thing to do if you need to test out some colors, albeit not exactly the same as the final outcome, but seeing the overall look is helpful.
@eBayMiniatureRescues well you're shopping a photo so obviously. Which photoshop app? There's like 30 on Microsoft store alone.
Szarekh is taking a break and letting his chair do some killing it seems
Yeah he has that auto drive turned on...he'll get picked up eventually lol
Inflames shirt? Yeah, we’re buddies now!
Better safe than sorry
Hope that helps!!
How did you find so many Necrons in bulk?
They were donated to the channel by an extremely kind subscriber!
is it really a "rescue" when the box is sealed? 😉
