  • I had a couple tons of slate and stone left from building the porch steps so decided to lay down a front walk to the driveway.

    This summer has been brutal for many folks' lawns.....lack of rain, extremely HOT temperatures. Walkway is perfect. Just what was needed.....simple, beautiful, and recycling stone on hand.

    That lawn is coming along nicely! Knowing what that lawn looked like before you broke ground...man you've come a long way!!! We've been in a drought here and most of my lawn is brown. What grass I do have left went to seed! haha Thanks for the update brother! Walkway turned out 🤘🏻METAL🤘🏻

    The slates made a nice walkway.
    I didn't expect you would get any grass to grow in this heat. Looks good.

    Laying that stone is hard work. We did a whole courtyard after we built our home. Didn’t stand up straight for a week!

    You might need some top soil if you want to start on green grass. In Tennessee, UTK has an Ag. extension agent that covers several counties. Prior to covid a person could do a soil test for a fee and this will tell you how much lime and fertilizer you need. Acidity is first with lime. I'm not sure what miracle grow you spread, but it's not that easy. My wife put miracle grow on my shorts for years before the divorce.
    I would say you have hard pan acidic clay with no humus around the house and next spring you could turn it into green garden.

    Walkway looks awesome! Great job! That clay is tough to grow in... If you have a hardwood woodlot on the property, the accumulated, composted leaf litter is **gold** for amending clay. But it looks like you got some of the grass to come up. Good luck with it!

    It's been a minute, good to see you! Nice project. I need to make a walkway from the bottom of our steps to the barn, but I'd have to cut through big roots on two trees and one is already dead. If those are gone, I can do it. Give my best to Jaime, will you? ~Cynthia

    This is just a suggestion, Have you thought about watering at night or evening it better for your lawn, plus you get less evaporation

      It also allows mold to grow overnight which is no good. Best time is early morning.

    I’m in North Georgia and I have only seen 2 hummingbirds this year. I put feeders out every year and I usually fill my feeders about once a month. Has anyone else noticed this? I’m really concerned.

    • @Guildbrookfarm
      @Guildbrookfarm  Год назад +2

      I don’t know, I had to buy a 25lb bag of sugar to keep up with these psychos. I’m refilling two feeders every day. Maybe that’s why you aren’t seeing many? 🤷🏻‍♂️😂
