Great DIY hack. In addition to the loops to the tie out lines, I keep 2 MSR mini Groundhog stakes in the sack to make staking out the lean-to or plow point shelter even faster.

Hey Dan have you thought about making little bigger one I know the the purpose is to be very small and light but all the 7 foot shelters I have used in the rain I get wet not so much with 8 foot shelters and it would only be a little bit bigger 8x6 would be great what's was your thoughts and why you chose 7x5 thanks

As with everything, there are compromises .. compactness vs coverage.
I agree .. the extra foot-odd (8x8) would be a positive .. but then, some may consider this, for their own reasons, to be too 'big'.
I have a Särma 'Errako' 2.5m x 2.5m Tarp (manufactured by DD Tarps) .. a good quality tarp that serves me well. There are however, times that I think that it may have better to have got the 3x3m DD Tarp instead. However, not so much for the extra coverage and versatility (which would be nice), but rather for the extra 'tie-out' loops that the larger DD Tarp has.
Whatever one chooses, what is important is, is to learn to live within the item's capability.
I can relate to that, I'm 6'2". I use the Walmart 5×7 nylon tarps as an emergency shelter. I got wet a couple times. I started keeping a 3 mil garbage bag with the tarp. Pulled over my lower half. I can slide my core a little more to the center of the tarp. Not the best solution but its worked for me, and its cheap.(using stuff I already had)
Would buy one if it was a little larger, it’s too small for me the way it is….
At least 8 x 8…. It’s lightweight so 10 x 10 wouldn’t hurt….

Nice idea but instead of an overhand knot use a figure 8 on a bight, gives you an immediate loop but more importantly, it is much, much easier to untie if you decide to remove it (also doesn’t reduce line strength as much as an overhand.

I've always thought traditional kilts (not the man dresses but the long wool "blankets", like the ones that can wrap a man into a burrito.) Should have never went away, even though it's not for speed, but the versatility is outstanding. It can be a shelter/tarp, sleeping bag, backpack, folded into a cushion of sorts, used like a blind for hunting if it's warm, and of course a dress 🤣 and the real wool ones will keep you warm in the snow.
I've camped and hiked in a great kilt. I'd still want a sleeping mat and waterproof tarp since it always rains here.

Wish you would have SHOWN a "plow point?" tarp config set up. Heck, even a PIC of it.
This is easily found on YT. It's a great configuration to know. Quick and easy to do.

I have been subscribed to your channel for quite a while… In the past 30 days or so, I have “mysteriously” found myself unsubscribed. I can’t imagine why YT would have a problem with someone like yourself getting 10M sub’s… But I just thought that I would let you know. Keep up the good work. I spend many days a year in the woods, but I still try not to miss any of your videos.
Even emergency tarps should be square like 7x7 or so. Then the plow point configuration which is much more protecting will be better than a rectangular one. The extra grams is worth it 🙂
Plow point is THE way to go for superior protection using limited resources.
Gear prep is something that is overlooked, configure your gear that works for you👊
If the bag remained at the end of the tarp and that end of the tieout was at the bottom of the bag. Deployment would be tie off the bottom of the bag and pull the tarp out of the bag as you go to the next tie out point.

Where are your tie-down stakes, not shown? Within the stuff sack or do you cut portions of a tree limb in the field?
If I had that I would jungle knot the tie outs. Also add tie outs to the other corners so it can be put up higher and be a proper “fly”. Good for hotter regions as we all don’t live in North America. And make it square way more versatile

At the end of this presentation on how to stuff the tarp into the bag, why not give a very quick demo of how it is deployed? The string that is left out-is tied WHERE on the tree? With such a small tarp there must be an approximately ideal spot? And that line stored at the bottom of the bag? I assume that it is opposite to the line tied to the tree.
This demo only needs to be a minute or two long-if, indeed this tarp IS that quickly set up! 🌝

I suppose that's debatable. A tube tent can be deployed rather quickly, but so can a T6ZERO. It's a free market, buy what works best for you. Dan provides a ton of content that costs nothing to do and requires no purchase in advance. As far as his promoting his product, it's his channel, and he is a business. So if you don't find value in it, then I'm sure he would be crushed to lose a subscriber, but that's your choice.
