Starting with the headboard and footboard, in this series we show the step-by-step process for building an Amish Farmhouse style Platform Bed with Storage drawers. Also called a Captains Bed, this beautiful, heavy-duty bed is simple to make using inexpensive dimensional lumber that's readily available at your local home improvement center. The finished product is a solid, heirloom quality piece topped with the premium Sunset Luxe mattress from our friends at Helix Sleep. You won't find anything this affordable, or well built, in a furniture store.

Ah man I wish I would have known about this company 6 months ago!! I spent WAY too much on my extra firm mattress and I had to drive two hours round trip to pick it up! Dangit. Great video as always Jeremy! Another damn good reason to get that pocket hole jig :)

This is so cool and quite informative! If you haven't already filmed the base portion can you talk about how to go about it so that one side has a deeper set of drawers and the other side obviously has shorter drawers, if that makes sense?

Hello Jeremy, Guildbrook Farm! I have always known beds with underneath storage as a Captain's Bed...as if it were on a ship maximizing space usage, storage space on a ship. I bought one almost 20 years ago. Too big for here. Only one side, 2 small drawers, would be accessible here. That's why I was keen to see what you had in store and how you'd approach things. Just one thing, if you don't mind. I watched someone compare our 'pocket hole' jig to that more expensive unit. He had one valid point that I address when I'm using pocket holes now. The wood that remains from the tip of the drill and the end of the wood has to go somewhere and the likely avenue is into the joint we are making...potentially throwing things off or gaping even. I take a separate drill and run it through the pocket hole and out the end of the wood. Thanks for making an excellent video describing things! 👍👍👍 Looking forward to the follow-up! Thanks! Oh, I also did slip over to #HelixSleep website to do some window shopping! 😉👍

I love watching you put your furniture together. You've planned it so well that there's no waste of time, or your energy, and what you end up with looks so high end.
Thanks for sharing all of this with us :)

Nice bed! It looks almost identical to the bed my husband built for us last year .... just about the same style (we did not do drawers however but that could have come in handy) and just about the same color. Good job on your house as well.

Also loved the review of the mattress, we are about due for a new mattress. We purchased a thermo pedic foam mattress about 11 years ago, I will never go back to a full spring mattress. Ours is holding up good but not quite as firm as original condition, Helix might be a good option for us and probably much cheaper. We purchased just the mattress for about $ 2300 cdn

Beautiful work Jerimy, 👏 little concerned about all the dust in your basement, are you considering an outdoor shop build , if you do recommend a covered breezeway between two walls to roll your cutting tools outside to limit the need for 100% dust collection. The build would make for great content 👌

Lovely! What’s happening with the old cabin now you have a bar and new house? Could be a potential video series to dismantle it and find sustainable ways of disposing/reusing the materials.

How did you attach the top cap? It's the one thing you didn't show and it's confusing. Where are the pocket holes? Underneath going forward into the rear of the top rail? In the top rail going up into the top cap? On the sides going into the posts? If you only secure it to the rail, how do you prevent it from having an axis of rotation making it 'wobbly'?
