LYRICZ:
hah hanging on
yeah just scraping
whatever you make gets taken
doing the best that you can to get by
days get longer
a choice there is no other
go along or go under cuz it's time
wheel ain't stopping
you're on and you're locked in
in the end you get one thing, nothing
pain gets stronger
life on your shoulder
go along or go under cuz it's time
it's time to get a real life
and get a 9 to 5 until the end
it's time forever on the edge
just working for your thread until the end
hah hanging on
ooh keep scraping
all of your time gets taken
doing the best that you can to get by
nothing other
never stop to wonder
go along or go under cuz it's time
blood's all sucked out
eyes been poked out
in the end you get one thing, nothing
pain gets stronger
life on your shoulder
go along or go under cuz it's time
*repeat pre-chorus and chorus
it's time
right where you're supposed to be
living somebody's dream until the end
it's time
right where you're supposed to be
thinking that you are free
until the end
*chorus
on and on and on
on and on
KNOWER is Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi
feat. Tim Lefebvre on bass, Alliz Espi and Vince Espi on stringz
Directed by Speven Stielberg
Genevieve's vocals are so beautiful here.
*always
Honestly if it wasn't for her. I could look the other way despite how groovy it is
Sometimes the RUclips algorithm recommends a 5 year old video of some random guy chatting shit about the wheels on his lawnmower, and sometimes it gives you pure molten gold like this.
And sometimes it can take 8 years to get to others. 4/2024
" year old video of some random guy chatting shit about the wheels on his lawnmower, " ==> That's the digital thread. I got here from Alex Ball.
@@timothydahlin5321 Me too!
This is the greatest pop song I've ever heard and I don't understand why these two haven't drowned in a veritable flood of Grammys.
See Butts Tits Money.
Because success/widespread popularity is largely down to luck, and gatekept by a consolidated music industry who choose what gets heard based mainly on whether they think they can make money off of you (and if you're willing to sign away your creative rights to them). Mass production is key to maximizing profits, so they pick a handful of acts to push and flood media with.
Talent is no guarantee of success in the music world, just like in most other pursuits in life.
What Istas says plus this being too intricate for the masses. You may perceive it as refreshing and innovative, most people just want unsurprising background noise, not something that makes them nervous or demands attention. I think Louis Cole is doing pretty well by now on his own though, there are plenty of folks buying directly from him on bandcamp.
@@IstasPumaNevada
So then, it distinctly is not down to luck, you say, eh?
@@IstasPumaNevada
Also, I agree with you. The masses - they mostly stare at Instagram behind the wheels of their respective automobiles, remaining still even once traffic lights have turned green.
If you look closely you can see they are featuring Tim Lefebvre on bass
@Beard Guy101 nah, I like the video. Maybe your opinions shit man.. maybe mine is... but I know you got no chill and you haven't made a music video, so most likely its you with the shit opinion
@Beard Guy101 wow, nice insane comment dude
@Beard Guy101 She probably is a taco bell slave. Musicians don't get paid anymore. Anyway she's gorgeous.
Remember folks, if your skin isn't pure white you look like a Taco Bell slave... thanks @Beard Guy101 for being a racist fuck and fucking it up for guys with beards everywhere.
@@wetbadger2174 She is! Looks, voice, presence.....
Proper observation sir.
This song really brings out Genevieve’s voice, and it’s truly amazing.
Genevieve is such a skilled vocalist! She is so ROCK SOLID through that modulation and with the harmonization arrangement it is scary!
She’s amazing. What a talented artist!!!
She's got MJ level skill with her voice.
I... Just want to EAT that bass sound.
Watch out because it's fuckin' thick
Just discovered Knower last month. Bass line still as illegal… aging like fine wine.
Same. Late to the party, but oh so pleased to have arrived
Late to the party as well... Just heard about them last week... And man... this is some really good music.
Me too why do I get so much shit music recommended to me but never anything good like this
I've worked "9-5" for almost 30 years and haven't produced anything as beautiful as this.
Modern Electro-Jazz-R&B-Funk-Pop gem. This is what great modern music is all about, luminous hip chord changes, inventive arrangements, gorgeous singing, catchy melodies, great playing. And very heart felt, sincere lyrics. Instant favorite.
Well said! They're so creative!
This should have bee a massive it. Knower is a criminally underrated outfit, same thing w/both Genevieve's and Louis' solo work.@@Larez121
The money teel! Just discovered these guys when i woke last night, this is my fourth vid I've seen of this ensemble and their groove keeps on demanding my attention!
This is the type of music I am frustrated I only just now heard about. This is the type of music I'm disappointed hasn't gotten more attention. This deserves more views
Couldn't have said it better
don't feel frustrated, just feel the funk!
agreed
Just imagine how the aliens that we become in 3,009 will feel ;)
Music this good is not for most people.
This band needs more recognition
haven't heard a song this good in a long time. it's funky, jazzy, harmonic, spacy with a drive, the progression is incredible, the bass pops with incredible runs, her backing vocals are excellent, great phrasing and supporting synths that accentuate the melody, catchy hook. blends progressive shoegazey-space rock with jazz with funk with synth electronica with some pop, wow! ! ! A+++
회사AUTO / Zaturn Valley yeah this song literally has everything. This band is insanely creative. Plus..Tim Lefebvre who is a fucking legend.
the spacy stuff with the violins and synth reminds me of Royksopp, thought you'd like to check them out
회사AUTO / Zaturn Valley And your review also gets an A+++. 😊
Accurate AF!!
I wouldn't be afraid to say it's the best song i've heard in the last 10 years.....
Knower have saved music.
Together they are one earth-shattering entity and it must be reflected grammatically. (has*)
I know right
this is fucking amazing
+beardyman It makes me so happy to see a dope musician digging other dope musicians. Love your stuff, btdubs!!
Word!
"It's time to get a real life, to get a 9 to 5 until the end..." Saddest Knower lyrics ever.
Keepin it real....
But is sung in victory. Knower seems to be saying here you told me to quit and now look how far I’ve come
i can't deal with how fucking great this song is.
+Zia Zaidi ....took the words right out of my gut!
same here.
There. Lefevbre is the perfect missing aroma in the (already) great recipe.
It's the kind of song that is so damn good it makes me depressed about how untalented i am
The bass player has it dialed in perfectly.
I want to know how Louis is capable of music production, visual production, playing drums and keyboard all within the same brain...
Similar to Jack Stratton of Vulfpeck, although Jack is basically running his own brand/label at the same time. And always seems so relaxed.
Some people choose the pattern that they are actually talent instead of going for money, social status or validation, those people are sparse and precious.
He can also sing
Alien DNA
He's great, and an excellent live performer. Saw them in Philly & they were all exceptional. While his kind of schtick is being purposely egotistical, there was a point where he just said "I'm going to play some drums" soloed for 5-10 min & everyone in the band was just looking at him like.. come on guy.. lol.
Saw them live for the first time two nights ago. I will never be the same. This song was performed, and it was every bit as good as this - better, as seeing musicianship at this level live isn't something often seen.
I think KNOWER is somehow making me enjoy life. I don't know if I've felt this before.
that voice is heavenly .
She’s incredibly artistic and talented
Is this bass line legal?
I'd build a monument to it, sculpting the marble by punches.
it is so black it was stolen
Not in most countries...
I will make it legal
If it ain't, I will *gladly* go to jail.
Such a happy fun summer song about being flat broke.
Louis & Genevieve, you HAVE real lives and real jobs: filling this world with artistic beauty and inspiration. This is a most noble of calling, worthy of a life's work. So please leave the 9 to 5 to all of us worker drones and I, for one, will gladly support you in any and all projects!
+Adam Pace well put
+Adam Pace 4pm-11pm for me but yeah, musicians like this deserve to spend the rest of their lives doing what they want with music. I hope one day I can do the same.
+Adam Pace couldn't have said it better
do they seriously not do this full time? ffs.
I think they mean it sarcastically, kind of a mocking tone saying that real life should in fact mean everything but 9 to 5 instead of the other way around.
Listened to this a lot while opening a recording studio at the age of 40. Gen knows what's up.
Best of luck!
Louis is rocking the Donald Fagan vibe on this one synthtaur and all
Loving this track so hard lately. Lefebvre is so effortlessly funky, it's inspirational.
Louis and Genevieve, I'm indoctrinating my two young daughters -- they've been singing Hanging On and Overtime randomly around the house. It's working! :-)
That's great
I just think that this is one of the most perfect songs that I've ever heard
it hits all the feel-good spots so masterfully
edit: dangit- no, not like that...
To say that this is fucking amazing is an understatement. They are so talented it's overwhelming.
Amen... and I’m not even religious
The bassist is sick!
Sorry to hear. Hopefully he'll get well soon.
Screw the Like button... where's the "You've blown me away and given me goosebumps all over"?
Evan Noway I know!
anthem of the modern world
the essence: beliefs still function even though nobody claims to have any faith in them
Love these chord progressions! This is art, ladies and gentlemen.
Jesse Grisham I just can't get enough of them!
Where to start? The composition is incredible. Love the melody, the funk section, the string lines, the modulation at 3:58 and the beautiful ending (who else writes great endings like that?). Vieves kills it. Fantastic vocal choir section at the end. Sick bass line with Tim Lefebvre. And of course the trash can drum guy! THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!
Agreed! very nice!!
Hey … are you related to Louis?
Is it Tim Lefebvre on bass? Didn't know that.
everytime you don't compromise, you make a part of someone's life bearable. thanks.
How can a song about the Sisyphean nature of life in the capitalist sausage-grinder be so uplifting? The lyrics are crushing yet the music holds no trace of cynicism. It's kind of heartbreakingly beautiful... An anthem for our current world...
I write like such a pretentious fuck. But seriously, amazing.
Ludwig, I quite agree.
ludwig van biteme well described
T_T
Very eloquently put, my friend! Totally agree with you.
lol, coming back to this vid after awhile and surprised I already commented the same thing I was just thinking in this thread d
The bassline is savage
Tim's bass playing is sooo tasty!
Holy shit, this is amazing. How have I not heard of KNOWER until now? WTF?
Look out at Louis Cole as well.
probably because like me, you've been watching Clowncore videos on repeat for a day or two. lol
Now you know(er).
This groove is insane. Just insane.
That moment when you find a band and then the band is in your life for ever more and before they weren't OH MY GOD THIS IS SO GOOD
those key changes mmmmmmm
brightener as much as I like this song, that’s when it loses me. Right when I’m starting to feel it.. too :/. I think Disney ruined key changes for me.
yeah, and her angelic voice.
You listen to Disney music? Well that's your own problem.
you edonist :)
cheesy af
the modulations in this songs are SO MIND BLOWING!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maemi No Yume I can't get enough of them!
I am besides myself, wondering why it took me almost seven months to get here. Truly poised against a backdrop beautifully decorated. Each sound has such a special place, and resides there without effort. The chord progression fills me more than any meal ever has. That groove constructed by the bass is the perfect rhythmic marriage, with no divorce in sight. Genevieve sits atop the ensemble uttering the words as a part of her creation. This song is a well packed gift to the human race. Thank you Knower!
Amen!!!!
It's amazing how many people hear exactly what I hear in KNOWER'S compositions. True originality, in a world seemingly void of same.
Ditto, except for the seven months, it took literally seven clicks 😅🤘
You just earned yourself a subscriber!
Two years later,.....
That bassline should be illegal! Oh my gawd. I keep coming back to it again and again. The whole song is a masterpiece!
The break down at the end is the best thing I've ever heard!
Who would flake on Genevieve Artadi?😮
Srsly love this song and how vulnerable shes willing to be to write it...
every pop and funk artist dreams of being like this beautiful and bad ass
KNOWER makes me feel like I'm not crazy. I am, but I at least I'm not alone. Love you guys. Never stop.
Smoothest modulations ever. It was like entering a new key of paradise. LOVED Gens vocals at the end.
If this was a tape i would have worn it through several times over by now. If it were a record I would have worn the grooves out. 1.2 million views is quite gratifying to see next to this modern classic, but honestly. Knower deserve more. Much more.
They are all so freaking good!! Louis Cole has a style like no other. The bass was perfect. And the lead singer's voice is amazing. Why aren't they mainstream yet! They deserve national recognition
Man... if I don't stop I'm going to carry this video to 1M views.
Looks like you did it!!
I've listened to this song multiple times every day for the last 3 months... And a bunch of the other knower songs
Wonderful - kind of a Level 42 vibe
With sort of Janet Jackson vocal style in the verses.
I love Level 42. I don't think they were ever THIS good.
This track has given me goosebumps since it came out, can't believe it's been 7 years already. Love you guys!
As much as i like the new stuff, I miss this version of Knower. Totally unique. The Life album was the full package. The best thing they’ve done. The 80s vibes are awesome.
Still can't get over how great this is
This song's been a piece of what's been motivating me lately to focus more on my creative skills instead of video games and TV all day. I hate work, i hate working for someone else's dream and this song is such a slap in the face with it's lyrics to get off my ass and try for something different. I just discovered this band a week ago and can confidently say they're in my top 10 all time.
This song goes absurdly, preposterously, downright illegally hard. It's literal perfection. Should have been number one in every country for at least five months upon release.
I could cry, this song is just so wonderful.
so hooked on Knower now!!!!! this stuff makes me so happy!
Fadeaway Radiate me too!
Same, I just thought he didn't want to check his bank account!?!
Such a great song, wicked bass. I've seen these guys in a small pub in San Francisco and chatted with them before the show; they and the show were awesome...!
Brill. Makes me think of Scritty Politty meets Jimmy Jam & Janet Jackson with a bit of George Duke. So all in all pretty much perfection.
Great preference :-).. Scritti 4 the 20's..
+Peter Pritchard Man, you hit it on the head referencing Scritti Politti...used to love that band too!
I'm definitely going to be playing more KNOWER. Awesome.
This song is pure perfection. And Knower doesn't stop there, the visuals that go with it are impossible to look away from. It's all very simple, but it's pure beauty.
where has this band been my whole life. OMG THIS GOES SO HARD
Literally can't stop listening to this. This song is amazing and Tim Lefebvre is a beast.
I don't even know if this is my favorite Knower song, but, for me, this one is BY FAR the catchiest. I haven't been able to get this song out of my head for at least 5 months, according to my RUclips comment history. I start thinking of this song or humming the chorus at least once a day.
Genevieve is an angel's voice.
EDIT: I just realized that I was wrong. Genevieve blinks one single solitary time at the start of the second line of the first verse. And it irks me so much. 😆😆😆
Original comment: The fact that the video is edited so that Genevieve never blinks her eyes makes it fit so well with the stressful topic of the requirements of a day job.
Wtf
@@RajorshiBhattacharyyaThank you for your input. Very enlightening.
I love it. It's like Scritti Politti meets Stereolab in a Manchester nightclub in 1986. Well done, you guys.
That ending sounds like Deerhoof and I'm loving it.
This is AMAZING! The way the band approached going up keys was NICE!
Musicianship, taste, great composition, great arrangement, great vocals, great video making...so much uncanny talent in here!!!😳👍👍👍
How the hell has this not exploded all over the place? I really like this! Way better than a lot of current chart stuff.
My face I when I realised my newest favourite song was released eight years ago 🤔
Same here
This band is sooooo underrated!!!
Yea he killing that bass. Awesome!!
It touch me like hell......I love it....
_"In the end you got one thing: Nothing"_
That's something proverbial right there.
I've listened to this song hundreds of times, and it's still as fresh as the very first time. Actually, it continues to improve with age. Lovin' Knower.
Dating myself here, but this has such a Scritti Politti vibe! I love it!
Musicality in the highest of tiers.Lyrics that resonate.Unparalleled visuals.Just a few out of countless ways to describe Knower. Can't contain my excitement for the new album.
+Lucas Phillips so much this. it may be a bit reductive of my own life right now, but this new album is all i need. i cant begin to quantify the joy it will stir in me
This is my new favourite song. Super funky and beautiful 😊
Snakey key change, awesome song, awesome group.......love it!!!
...them bass lines brothers and sisters!
I come here everyday, love this song.
Nice cover photo dude
First of all, Knower is incredible... 2nd that bass player is realty popping! !!! Wow
How Genevieve Artadi hits those high notes is beyond me.
This song is just pure joy😢
In two hours this upload turns three years old to the day and its still fresh like a new born bebe. What a beautiful thing!!!
Sadly... The talented authentic artist's are never pushed like they should be.
my face just melted off this was awesome
yes killahfam...same same
I can't get enough of this band. DAaaaammmm
Tim Lefebvre on bass, ! No shit! Great song.. sad lyrics tho! This song sticks in your head all day!!
No one even knows lol
Anyone remember Scritti Politi “Perfect Way”? Love this too!!! Pure bliss
Jeff Bridges with the funky bass, baby!
Masterful in many ways.
