The Spyro Trilogy and Crash Trilogy were incredible remakes that were $40 when they came out. The fact that this is $70 just puts Sony's greed on full display...
@@tb1235 if you could charge $70 wouldn’t you? This is what all companies do-they charge the most they can. And ND can charge $70 for this. So why wouldn’t they? You would too if it was your product. Nobody charges far less than they have to.
@@Brian-ou9uz I absolutely would not because I'm not a money hungry corporate sleazeball. Just because a company can do something, it doesn't make it morally irreprehensible.
Quick turn around is literally one of the first things you do in first last of us. It’s not a gameplay element added from TLOU2. Just thought I’d mention that.
Yeah... I was thinking that.. but couldn't really remember... Yeah I remember now. Game forces u to do it when the army truck explodes. But it's timing was so hit or miss and the delay was too great... that it's pretty much impossible to do reactively or anywhere in the game other than a novelty.
@@Hydra360ci not only that but the animation to quick turn actually takes longer then turning around regularly. because it's literally just that animation, then it stops THEN you can move. Rather then moving in motion as you turn around.
Also the pause when you injure someone and they beg for their life isn't new as well. Very big error in his critique, still mentions good points though.
One of the main arguments I’ve seen made for not having dodge and prone is that part 1 was not designed with those mechanics in mind so they would have to go back and rework a bunch of level design to make it fit in. Kind of like what they would do if it was a remake.... oh wait, it is.
It's always hilarious to me when they mention that. Why the hell are you remaking a game if you're going to keep the gameplay completely the same? Even Demon's Souls added omnidirectional rolling and many other QoL features and that wasn't even remade by the same developer as the original game. TLOU1's gameplay was outdated when it came out and is still outdated in the remake.
The irony is not lost on me. It's just ND being lazy and trying to make excuses, because anyone with a brain knows that rebuilding a game from the ground up means there is nothing in the way to make new features not work.
This is it! You try telling people this and they just think you’re crazy. Why bother remaking something if you’re not going to improve the gameplay? If they had completely redesigned the levels and combat design it would’ve been well worth the asking price because then it’s actually a brand new game and not just the same game again with better graphics and very slight improvements. I mean for christ’s sake, look at Resident Evil 1 and 2 remake, look at Black Mesa. They’re more than just the same game all over again.
Why would the last of us feel like the exact same game as the last of us 2. Games were multiple people are playable people will complain that they feel exactly the same. When they feel different people will complain that it’s not the same
Joel’s daughters reflection in the screen door is actually in the ps3 version too, I was so blown away at the time that I played that actually stuck out for me. It’s a very low resolution reflection but still very cool for attempting at least.
The mirror in her room is not Ray traced, it's just a camera pointing out from the angle of the mirror, then it's rendered and applied as a texture to the mirror surface. This is the way reflections were done in games for a really long time.
@@MrRealityXDNot raytraced, and DEFINITELY not RTX lmao The OP here is correct. It's what we developers refer to as a "render-to-texture" reflection, and it does exactly as the name implies-- it renders the scene from the point of view of the mirror, and applies that realtime render to a texture (the texture of the mirror)
Here's a little life lesson, stories get rehashed all the time, even in movies. The original Star Wars is a rehash of a different story with similar character arcs.
I agree with everything you have said, you absolutely nailed it. If the price was $40 I could over look 99% of the lack of additions but at $70 forget it Sony.
That's why you should just play anything else in your backlog and pick it up when the price has dropped. That's what I do for like 90% of the games I get. I save loads of money in the grand scheme of things, and the number of games I have represent way more money than what I actually paid to get them.
People way underrated this remake because, having played the game twice already and now playing a third with this remake, I can tell you that it is significantly better than the OG and easily one of the most beautiful games I’ve played on PS5 so far. So much disrespect and cynicism in this video to the amount of work that really goes into something like this, I’ve been incredibly and continually impressed by it.
my dude got a code and still gave it a stern review. good job, luke. for me, no prone and dodging are the worst sins; those two changes alone would convince me to replay part 1, since they made part 2 so much better for me. EDIT: oh and you forgot to mention if the enemies scream out each other's names when they die. judging from the state of things, i'm guessing that they don't.
especially after they innovated lou2 with the revolutionary jump feature, i was getting mad inches with the hops. ill never feel the same playing any other tlou game if i cant bunny hop thru the game lol
The main reason they released this game is because naughty dog is going all in on the last of us. They want a bigger audience for the show and future projects so remaking the game just made sense. Theyre about to release the part 1 remake, the show plans on releasing next year, info on the huge last of us open world multiplayer game will release soon, and they already announced plans to eventually do a third game. They released this game bc naughty dog is allll in on the last of us and I'm all for it
@@puppy_crossing411 they talked in a recent interview that theyve already been working on a script for a third game, they said its not final but I imagine with how much last of us content naughty dog is shooting out there's no way they're not making a third game eventually
I appreciate that alot of work went into this but there is nothing that is going to change the fact that this is the same game. They didn't have to go through years of story boarding to write a new story, didn't need to pay Voice actors and write a script again, didn't have to desighn the areas from the ground up and didn't have to throw 5+years at it to make it happen Why is £70 (more than it cost a decade ago) justifiable for this product.
Exactly the truth here. Skilled developers just basically traced over a game which they had already created and made it look a bit better with removed multiplayer option and added accessibility features.
YES! Literally admitted to "Keeping everything the same" So much so they didn't even redo any of the mocap/acting. This game is just much more borderline a really nice remaster. It's not a Remake in my eyes. If more then 50% of the usual game development work was already done for you then wtf are we buying?
@@dh2266 I also wouldn’t be surprised if more things like assets and models were taken out of part 2. There is no way I am supporting this. Gaming is never only about graphics like Sony wants us to think.
So let me get this straight: Crash Bandicoot N'sane Trilogy / Spyro Reignited Trilogy - remakes of over 20 year old trilogies, with new voices and osts, bonus levels and improved gameplay - 40$ Final Fantasy 7 Remake / Resident Evil 2 Remake - a total reimagining of the original, over 20 year old games, with new gameplay, music and voices, making it a new experience without making original games obsolete - 60$ Mass Effect Legendary Edition - a whole trilogy, with all DLCs, better graphics, and improved gameplay - 60$ The Last of Us. Part 1 - new models + one DLC - 70$
What was Resident Evil 2 Remake really? A short game with a limited amount of small areas that you could play through with different characters, so it appeared the game had more content then it actually did. I really enjoyed the remake, but just by looking at the content and the amount of work the remake must have cost, 60 bucks is way overpriced compared to other 60 dollar games.
Not a loser it's just your opinion. What others think about and and what you think about it doesn't matter. If you have fun with something it's worth it
You’re not a loser, at all. I played this a bunch of times, and I gotta say the graphics in this version look so much better than the original PS4 version, but that’s just me. You don’t have to take my word for it.
Not a loser for liking one of the most beautiful remakes of all time. Although the $70 price tag is really steep and I can only recommend on sale, it clearly didn't take your enjoyment away because it's easily the definitive way to play this game.
There are a few inconsistencies in what he said about the bow and glass breaking: the bow reticle can be switched in the HUD settings and you can break glass in certain levels and areas - just depends on where you are.
To be honest, I’m impressed with how great everything looks. It’s my favorite game of all time and I would’ve loved to pay $10 for the ps5 upgrade. But to try to charge me $70 to play the game again is just a slap in the face. Improved graphics, enemy/buddy AI, and accessibility features are not worth more than the original game. Some of the people defending the $70 price tag talked shit about rockstar releasing gta5 for the 3rd time and I’ve found that fucking hilarious.
$70 is a lot of money I agree, but you can’t compare it to GTA V. That game’s “upgrade” was pretty much a port to PS5 or PS4 with the settings bumped up, although you do get ray tracing for the PS5. This game seems to be an actual remake with new models, reanimated scenes, remade textures, etc. Very different compared to the less impressive PS4 remaster. I’d say $45 should be the ideal price for this upgrade.
bout all game companies do that. all their trying to do is make money just some people try to defend certain ones because they are their "favorite". makes me laugh some will do that and people will be all 😡 then if their's does it they are oh it's ok lol
@@brandondunkin5816 Cause they barely did anything to the game. Naughty Dog rebuilt characters, levels (even if the levels are 1:1 to the original in terms of placement) etc.
FYI, the 'raytraced reflections' you showed was a basic planar reflection. It's an old technique that only works on flat surfaces, has to be manually set up, and it's basically rendering the whole scene 2ce per reflection so is used sparingly, but moreso in scripted linear games. Random puddles, cars, and smaller or more complex objects still have ssr artifacts or cubemap limitations, so RT definitely isn't a thing.
It’s not the first time I’ve heard people say the game is using ray tracing, I don’t know where that’s coming from. I think people just expect new games to have ray tracing.
@@ashleykettle343 nobody seems to know what it actually does. They often think 'oh, it doesn't make any difference other than tank performance' or 'this looks good so it must be raytraced'. The best way to understand raytracing is to understand what has been used in its place for years, and all the limitations devs have been working with. You'll then notice RT when the lighting doesn't have the errors you'd usually expect otherwise.
They use a dual layer solution with detailed cube maps with a screen space later over top of that. It's really convincing because the cube maps stay in place even when screen space is disrupted.
I've been playing through this game and Ellie still runs into the field of view of human enemies. What in the hell does this tell us about the so called AI improvement? This game isn't built from the ground up. Its actually a play on words.
I honestly agree. Statements like Naughty Dog claiming dodge or prone would break the game seem like good indicators to me that this "Rebuilt from the ground up" line is total BS.
Overall, I find the the graphics upgrade to be amazing, I love a lot of the changes they made in the facial expressions. Much like you Luke I am also upset they didn’t bring over dodge and prone over from tlou2. Now one thing I also liked was the weapons upgrade. I really loved that system from part 2 so much I nerd over it every time I played through it. I think it’s a system that needs to be implemented into most games. But I really liked how they utilized the tools and combined that with the same upgrade system they had in part 2. Best idea they had. If they are going to make a part 3. They need this this system.
Agreed completely on the weapon upgrade system, it's a total weapon porn :D Much like you I'd love to see this system implemented into more games. Perhaps not most, as it depends a lot on what kind of attachment you are allowed to form with the weapons you use in a given game, but in many it would be an improvement for sure. Imho it has similar vibes to the Resident Evil 2 Remake system where each attachment changed the look, the function and even inventory size of the weapon in question. This system is arguably even better though, it definitely deepens the relationship you have with your weapons.
Considering i was here from quite early, the fact that luke got a playstation review copy feels kinda like a huge milestone, hopefully he gets one for Ragnarök 😅
Why am I not surprised as if we consider this a remake, it's definitely one of the weaker ones in this modern age of remakes. Especially compared to titles such as the Resident Evil 2 remake, or Mafia Definitive Edition. Overhauled gameplay that's still true to the original. Rebuilt level/world design from a gameplay point of view. Etc.
Because you're comparing it to reimaginings. "A spine-chilling reimagining of a horror classic" Capcom's own description. When people ask for a remake, TLOU and Resident Evil (not 2/3) are what they are asking for. Not RE2/FF7.
@@macdaddymario A lot of people simply believe a remake and a 'reimagining' are the same thing... cuz often, many remakes go well beyond just updating the graphics and lighting systems. Theres also remasters and comprehensive remasters... and i'd say, this TLOU part 1 is a comprehensive remaster and a well done one too. But we stretch it a bit when we want to label it as a remake, as the only things that got upgrades were the graphics & accessibility options.
Oh I see it's "reimagining" now, not remake, and we're all pretending these words have any concrete objective definitions and not weasel bs made up 5 minutes ago.
@@macdaddymario Stop playing semantics, they are exactly the same word and you are acting as if it isn't. They literally titled Resident Evil 2 in Japan REmake2, Resident Evil 4 seems to be the "reimagining" because it will be changing the story and general atmosphere from the original which RE2 didn't. But besides that, compare this game to Mafia Remake which was $50 and changed much more than what this remaster has done.
I think they did a pretty amazing job, I just wish they added the Dodge mechanic. That's the only let down for me considering the $70 price tag. I still pre-ordered it and I'm really excited to play it. I think other than the Dodge mechanic, they made an extremely faithful remake. The other games you mentioned just seem like better remix because the original counterparts were older. I mean.. visually, this game is ahead of the other remakes you mentioned. It looks more visually impressive than Resident Evil 2 and Mafia. Those other games just had older Originals so it is a bigger leap
And that was the last time Luke received a review code from Sony... Great video, you were thorough and fair. I'm glad you held them to task on what should clarify as a 'remake' or a 'remaster', this game clearly being the latter. Shame that a few simple changes would slightly forgive the extortionate asking price. I'll gladly wait and buy a reduced copy.
I respect him for being honest though. He pretty much stayed objective for this whole review. This game feels like a super remaster rather than a remake. This game should of gotten significant gameplay mechanics and redesign levels and expansion of certain levels in order to warrant the “remake” title. Like Luke said, this game is just a cash grab.
@@javo10ful even without fundamental changes to the gameplay, the amount of effort that has gone into overhauling the visuals, cutscenes, sheer emotion on characters' face, aka the things that were the best parts of the original, tell me it's pretty unfair to call it a cash grab. I honestly believe game developers suffer the same issue as if you wrote out a research paper. You don’t notice the spots that obviously need improvements or think adding something extra is unnecessary but when having a second eye read your paper for the first time, they see what needs to be added in a necessary way and then everything just makes more sense and now your paper is more interesting and thrilling to read.
I'm honestly getting sick and fucking tired of companies just CONSTANTLY re-releasing games that came out TWO FUCKING CONSOLE GENERATIONS AGO to earn more money. Like... why not put those resources to helping to make a new game?
This was a good review of this! I watched scallops and I couldn’t believe he supported the $70 price tag. This actually cost more than the last of us part two! It’s not like they started from nothing… There’s no way they should be $70. It is a beautified remaster that we’ve all played at least a dozen times. This is a hard pass for me
It’s such a hard recommendation too when you consider part 2 is longer (like 30-50% longer), has better gameplay, better feedback from enemies (calling out to each other etc) and retails for 30ish, regularly on sale for 18..
Naughty Dog is just trying to reach a larger audience with this imo. It could be a good thing now but I’m very skeptical that that’s going to be a good thing in a few years. A lot of franchises that expand too much tend to drop in quality trying to make everyone happy. I really hope not.
@@carloszestyboy2901 This isn't even expansion. It's literally the same game for the third time lol it won't be bringing very many people in. We need to let devs know they need to stop rereleasing ten year old games or half assed bugfests.

It looks to me like Naughty Dog is in a similar place that companies like Bethesda and Rockstar are in right now: they became famous making incredible original single-player content, everyone fell in love with them, they began experimenting which often removes the widespread love, then proceed to make multiplayer content to maximize profits. The visuals do look very impressive in some parts, but the jump in quality isn't big enough to justify the price, if only it was an actual ground up remake and featured new improved mechanics it would potentially be worth the price of a new game...
Btw the quick turn around was in the original tlou. It even pops up a tutorial message for it in the beginning when you're trying to leave the zone to go find Robert but there's an explosion that makes them close off the gateway
I thought it was just graphic improvements so I’m quite happy that AI improvements are Alison included. I think I would be disappointed if they changed too much, I loved the original and wouldn’t want it too feel so different. Overall a prettier version of my favourite game is a win for me. Not that I would ever pay the full price for it but realistically that’s gonna shoot down so quick it doesn’t even really matter.
Honestly tho i feel like the combat feels much better. Still outdated a bit in some ways but it just feels more like, part 2 and part 1 combined a bit.
Tbh if they didn’t make the doctor look like the dude from TLOU2 I wouldn’t have cared. TLOU2 was the worst game I’ve ever played considering what it could have been. I agree with you a lot. This is one of my favorite games, and it looks phenomenal here on PS5. But I was extremely disappointed to find out that the gameplay was practically untouched, as it has aged (not as bad as others, but given this is a remake and not just a remaster it's disappointing this wasn't improved much). And to be honest, I wouldn't care if it were just visuals if it were at a lower price tag. But with a $70 asking price, it's absurd that the gameplay isn't modernized. Especially considering the PS4 remaster included the DLC as well, so this is a package with less content going for the price of a brand new AAA experience. It's absurd, and I hope it's not a sign of things to come with all the poor anti-consumer decisions Sony's been making lately. I was really on the fence about getting this, but given I've sunk 200 hours in the original and this is basically just visuals I'm definitely waiting for a sale if I get it at all.
Yep, I can definitely understand that. It's the same acting and such. Even though the game is fairly new to me (I'd recommend finding my own comment which will explain why, hopefully it's there in the comments, if not then I'd be happy to explain in the reply thread), but for me it's a bit more new. What I will say though just to give you some context, I'm a blind person and this is one of the few games I can play without help. Yes, that's how ridiculous this game is. They made it playable by the totally blind from start to finish and this includes Left Behind. So this is why I dropped the full asking price, as it's a first for me. I won't go into full detail in the repl thread unless you'd like some more info, ther's some that I've commented on already but I don't know if it's there, so please let me know.
"All the poor anti-consumer decisions Sony has been making lately" I haven't been keeping up on anything lately so could you elaborate on that? If you ask me Sony has been making that kind of decision since the Ps4 came out. Microsoft dropped the ball hard at the launch of both last gen consoles, and in my opinion Sony stopped trying because they didn't need to anymore. Stark difference between Ps3 era Sony and Ps4 era Sony, the former they were doing everything they could to beat Microsoft and were constantly giving out store credit and birthday gifts to long term customers. The latter, they didn't need to go to that effort anymore so they stopped. With Microsoft acknowledging they screwed up last gen and making massive strides to do better going forward, I was really hoping the competition would get Sony to start being more consumer friendly like in the Ps3 days again. So ya I'd love to hear what dumb shit they are pulling now.
Was the final enemy final blow 'execution' in the original? Seemed like that wasnt added until TLOU2 and i noticed several times the last enemy alive did the plead for mercy and you could slowly approach and kill or strike.
10:00 Probably not raytraced, but just a mirrored "regular" space in the map with a character model inside duplicating the movements. If halo 2 anniversary, or (to a lesser extent) mass effect 1 legendary edition, are remasters then this is too. Its a very good remaster, but remakes are new games that replicate the story or style of the original. A remaster is a visual overhaul, maybe with some gameplay changes, that's that's built on the foundations of the original.
"It almost wasn't the same game" - in reference to the Mafia game. That in turn makes it a reimagining and decidedly not a remake. Resident Evil on GameCube is a Remake. Resident Evil on PS3/4/PC/360/X1 is a remaster. Resident Evil 2/3 are reimaginings. As per Capcom's own definition. People need to stop assuming remake mean reimagining. When people ask for a remake, Resident Evil and TLOU are what they are asking for. It's just a shame that companies like to shit out RE2/3 and FF7 and call them the same.
@@macdaddymario You clearly don't know wtf you're talking about and clearly didn't even play the GC version of RE which added new cutscenes, new areas as well as several new game modes unlike TLOU Part I. So no, this shit ain't even a f-king remake even more so, it's not even on the same level as RE.
I see it, too. I find it's most prominent with Tess especially during her death cutscene compared to the original. I feel like these changes in their facial expressions, while technological marvels, hurts their established characters a bit.
I've been thinking the EXACT same thing and it kind of takes away the essence of what i originally liked about the game, but it still looks fine nonetheless
9:42 that is NOT a ray traced reflection, it is in fact a Render-to-texture reflection. Basically, where the mirror is positioned, there is a camera... And what that camera sees is then projected onto the reflective part of the mirror. Its an effect seen in many, many, many games and has been used for years. The original used them (the actual render in the mirror was a much lower resolution though), GTA 5 from 2013 used them, I'm pretty sure there are some older examples too
Everyone has basically reached the same conclusion: The LoUP1 is a great game that was remade too soon and is being sold for the wrong price. Hopefully Sony gets the memo.
Thank you for the review. You confirmed what I suspected. I guess I will wait years before touching this one or wait until it is on PS Plus. As some have said, I am very happy that you stay consistent with your other reviews and criticized the company/studio even if copy was provided. Kudos to you Sir
Quick turn is available on the original game, you're introduced to it on the beggining of the game when the fireflies make that car bomb attack when you're about to leave the city with Tess.
@@kevinjohnanand "Really good game" Keep lying to yourself. Graphical tech doesn't make the game, the narrative does and i've played plenty of stories in games to know that i knew WAY better stories than tlou2. But unfulfilled? No, like i said, i played way better games. And if there is one of the many things that i don't regret is to buy this tlou2 game because it makes players so miserable and we don't need a narrative that disrespects the fanbase (like it was the case in 2020). Guess ND's last good game will always be Uncharted 4.
They did try. The first time they made the game. They just re did what the first team tried really hard to do. This is the second time it's been "rebuilt from the ground up." Kinda defines not trying.
The graphics are not good enough to ask $70 for a remake either. This has pretty much the same graphics as TLOU2, which are great, but that was a PS4 game. This is supposed to be a full-priced PS5 game. Have you even seen what the PS5 is actually capable of? Because it's definitely much, much more than this.

It's just one of those things that isn't necessary. Yes, the added accessibility stuff is awesome, but as a whole it has no reason to exist beside a cash grab. Even if I personally didn't enjoy the game, technically it was practically flawless. It's kind of shameless.
It’s made only for folks like me who haven’t played longer than 20 min of the first one. But. That’s a rarity. I guess there are super fans out there but $70. Idk
@@jaysgameplays4261 if you're only qualification for a game being a cashgrab is that it costs money I think you need to reconsider your definition of cashgrab
Well, with TLOU2 it was painfully clear that Neil Druckman IS shameless: he got rid of the real talent at Naughty Dog so HE could get all the credit for the new game. The guy lacks the talent to come up with a new game, so a crash grab like this is the only thing he can come up with.
Appreciate this analysis. Resonates a lot with what I feel. My dad just got back into gaming, and he's going to see this advertised (after just finishing the original), and how am I supposed to sell him on it? It's tough. Makes me wonder if the new coming fans are really worth alienating the OGs. In business, that formula usually never works out in the end. You never want to punish your loyal customers for sticking through everything, you'll lose more than you gain.
Ultimately I think it all comes down to is the game worth $70 to you. For some people it will be and for some it won’t be. And I think they’re both fair opinions to have

If you own a ps5, wait for a price drop! Yeah it looks nicer in the graphics, animations (especially the gore from part 2 is a nice touch up) and other stuff like improved workbench and accessibility options. But overall it's the same game from 2013 with no multiplayer, same gameplay same level design, and they want to charge $70?
I don’t like that they’re charging $70. I’ve bought the game twice already, once on PS3 and once on PS4. I was planning on waiting for a sale, but seeing this footage really makes we want to play the game due to the improved graphics and gore. I’m going to have a hard time waiting as more footage comes out, I’m afraid…
Meanwhile The Witcher 3 gets a fully touched up Next-Gen upgrade for free... because they're releasing it as a patch and not a full game. Why would anybody support this?
@@nousername2942 I ended up buying the remake and have about 7 1/2 hours in it. It looks and feels much better than the PS4 remaster. With the top notch graphics and haptics, it’s very immersive and the gunplay feels much better. The gore and dismemberment system has also been ramped up significantly. For me, someone who hasn’t played the original all the way through in several years (though I did play a little of it about a year ago) this remake was worth it. I’m highly enjoying it, even at the $70 price.
Another thing that was missing from this “remake” was new and improved level design. Part of what made TLOU p2 fun (ignoring the story aspect) was being able to play sneaky and really having multiple options on how you wanted to attack. Of course this “remake” didn’t touch level design at all… most likely due to ND choosing not to introduce prone but I still feel like some of the more mild and boring areas could have been slightly redesigned for a “game build from the ground up”
I agree! I enjoyed part 2 the gameplay was way better. The combat in pt2 was super fun i felt that there was more enemies in groups and they were smarter which made the gameplay super fun and intense. You had many different ways to eliminate the enemies. In part 1 it’s just the same thing 5-6 enemies or something like that. I remember part 2 having like 10-14 enemies it’s intense, had to use different strategies which made it even challenging. They could’ve done something similar to this remake like change the levels designs, add more enemies in it, have other options to defeat them change the gameplay areas. But keep the story the same lol
To be perfectly honest, Sony should have borrowed a page from companies like CA, or Microsoft who gave an outright 40% or 50% discount to people who owned the original game. That would have solved the price issue and got them many more sales. It's simply asinine that they sell it just for 70$ for everyone regardless of whether you own any of the previous versions(original or remaster) already, which as you said is a huge barrier for people to buy this game on top of 1 or both of those previous versions.
I think it's interesting that there's a case being made that this was made for people who watch the live action series and get curious to play the source material. But it seems like quite a jump to watch a tv series and then go buy a ps5 to experience this game at its best. Especially given the stock issues.
After The Queen's Gambit was released on Netflix, sales for chess boards and pieces were high and I have seen people who loved the guitar sections in the sequel that they bought a guitar so it's not unexpected to assume this, even with the stock issues.
As someone who has played all versions of this game, I can safely say that this is THE definitive version of this game. It is totally worth the price tag in my book because the overhaul of the graphics are insane. I love this story so much so I had no problem picking it up. Also I wanted my girlfriend to experience the game since we started watching the show.
Target employee came in clutch, the store was charging $69.99 for it but he was like nah, thats crazy, he checked online and gave me the gamestop price which was just $50, dude may get fired for that😂
I think SkillUp made a really good point and comparison when it comes to the pricing of the game. Sure 70$ is a bit pricy on a first glamce but you you actually compare it to other entertainment products it's not that crazy anymore. Many movies for example have been re-released over the years in many formats. LoTR trilogy, I have it on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, Extended and now just recently bought the Extended 4K remastered collection. It's the same movies with "littlebit" better picture but I've spent hundreds in total to the movie sets. So why then would 70$ be too much for my GOAT game when hundreds of dollars were not too much for my favorite movie. It's really how you look at the value. Naughty Dog went above and beyond with this re-release actually building it in many ways again for the Ps5 and it looks better than ever. It is the definitive way to play this game now. So if it is your GOAT go buy it support it. If you don't want to spend that much. Then don't and wait for sale, that easy.
25:37 The arrow mechanics were absolute ass in the original as well. But they were refined in the sequel. But it looks by your footage the reticle is different than either of the two I mentioned. So where does it stand?
For people who have played this game multiple times on multiple systems with multiple purchases, it's hard to justify buying it again until drops to under $20.00.
I get you. I'd like to please, if you don't mind, offer up my own experience to you because the opening experience was very powerful for me. Picture the scene: the thing you need to know about me, is I'm totally blind. A friend of mine, who is blind, tells me hay I'll take some time out of work on Friday and watch you play the first scene. He got a review copy so he did a review himself on Aug 31. So I fire up my PS5, with the screen reader mode turned on, and my friend's like hay have you heard of share screen? No I haven't. So he explains how to do this. I go in, and then he joins me. The first thing that pops up on first boot, is no music, but the accessibility options and such. So we set all that up. I then click continue. I hear Sony's logo and then, suddenly I hear those iconic notes, and the words, spoken, "press any button". I... go quiet. I mean really, really quiet to the point where a few seconds later my friend says, "you ok dude?" and I... can't respond. I just... sigh. Because the music just hit. I've heard that for over a decade. Then we get into the game and I get the navigation assistance I'm used to from part 2's accessibility, but it's in the first game. To be honest, I'm kind of in awe. Because the story that I've heard so much about, for a decade, is at my own, real, fingertips. I'm experiencing it myself and my friend stayed and watched me on SharePlay for a bit. He found it interesting how I did things slightl differently to him, listening to more of the world building stuff. We laughed our heads off at some of the combat encounters as well as I caused utter chaos at a couple of points. After a while he left me to it once he knew I was comfortable with the features. Fast forward to yesterday and I'm at the point where I met bill. I showed my Dad the features as well and we got to watch the scene where we reach the capital building. I'm spreading my sessions about a bit, as whilst I c an paly without help and fully have done so already, I don't want the game to end too quickly for me I want to enjoy myself and the story beats. But it's such an emotional ride. To make matters even more interesting, these features extend to Left Behind as well. Not only that but you can even attempt stuff like Grounded if you so wish, they've got facilities to do that, with the challenge in tact I might add. So I may, just may eventually try that. Will I do permedeath? I... dunno. But I intend to do some different difficulties when I'm done on Very Light, which I'm using just to experience the story. I'm also trying out different things like seeing what happens if enemies can flank me and such, as I like to mess about a bit with the challenge. I don't know if I'll of course be able to tell if enemies are flanking me, I don't think there's a sound for that. But this project has me very excited. You know what else has me excited? God of War Ragnarok will have accessibility in November. I'm loving Last of Us but to be able to do a hole different genre or game that's more actiony, this has me really anticipating that one and I'm wondering what they're doing for the blind for it.
This version of the game is obviously made for hardcore gamers and for people who are new to the series. Especially for those that are coming from the show when it releases.
Game looks really good graphically, and I know there’s some actual changes here and there but I don’t see why they wouldn’t include all the gameplay features from part 2. Imagine if arkham asylum was fully redone graphically to the level of Arkham Knight but it still kept the same old combat.
@@Dlord1PlayStation yeah I just beat part 1 last night and I had forgotten how dif it is. Still not a full stealth game like lou2. But it's a lot more focused on mobility than I remember.

Hey i Luke, I believe the quick twirl around mechanic was already present in The Last Of Us 1.

Luke is not very good at being correct

If you have fun with something it's worth it
The game is gorgeous, but not worth $70 when it’s the exact same game beat for beat.

Yup, and those same reflections also existed on the PS3.
They never even claimed it had ray tracing so idk why he would even put that in the video

Ultimately I think it all comes down to is the game worth $70 to you. For some people it will be and for some it won’t be. And I think they’re both fair opinions to have
You can have your own opinion on whether it’s worth the 70 bucks or not. But the fact is that this is a 2013 game with a shiny new look and a few extra features…
@@cocob0l0 and we all still have the choice to buy it or not.
@@cocob0l0 so don’t buy it then. Anyone who buys it obviously is comfortable paying $70 for it. You don’t need to go out of your way convincing other people to not buy it. People can spend their money on whatever they want
@@Rob_M_8 You must have a hard time reading. I never once told anyone not to buy it. I’m just describing the game for what it is. A remaster of a 2013 game being sold at full price. If you think that’s acceptable for companies to sell then ok.

It honestly feels like this remake exists solely so they can put Part 1 in the title
Without even realizing it, you became my go to RUclipsr to watch reviews and game talk. Keep up the great work! I admire it.
I'll start buying 70$ games when I'm mad rich, I'm already mad so I'm half way there.
Seeing this game relived with this level of graphical fidelity gave me a satisfaction I simply cannot describe. Sorry if you didn't get enough "bang for your buck" but it's everything I ever wanted from it.

@@kptlt.phillipthomsen5973luke stephens has to make a leak video, a skeptical pre release video, an optimistic day before video, a skeptical review, and a this game did something incredible video.
They changed Ellie's face to fit her look in part 2. Kinda hate that.
Target employee came in clutch, the store was charging $69.99 for it but he was like nah, thats crazy, he checked online and gave me the gamestop price which was just $50, dude may get fired for that😂
he won't get fired it's just a price match
You are a professional consumer my good sir
25:37 The arrow mechanics were absolute ass in the original as well. But they were refined in the sequel. But it looks by your footage the reticle is different than either of the two I mentioned. So where does it stand?
For people who have played this game multiple times on multiple systems with multiple purchases, it's hard to justify buying it again until drops to under $20.00.
The feeling this game gave me during the opening sequence is insane. This always was my favorite game of all time and it still is
Bc of game design. Lou2 was a real stealth game with a nimble and agile hero. Lou1 was an uncharted style cover shooter where you play as an old guy.
@@h.i.mcdunnough9421 TLOU played nothing like Uncharted tbh. You'll notice the difference especially if you play their multiplayers.
@@Dlord1PlayStation yeah I just beat part 1 last night and I had forgotten how dif it is. Still not a full stealth game like lou2. But it's a lot more focused on mobility than I remember.
I still believe that this game should be aimed primarily at PC players. I know they said it will be released on PC but considering what they're doing with Uncharted 4, I doubt it will ever come out.
You crushed this video! Great work I truly enjoyed it
Thank you for being real and not being afraid of pissing off fans or developers. Totally agree this is just a remaster. Was expecting at least a gameplay overhaul in addition to the graphics. But no the gameplay is basically the same and after playing the fluid TLOU nr2 it feels even more clunky,
Because they know fanboys will still buy it, they're milking a dead game and charging even more for less content. Why would.they try when they know people will buy it anyway?
