First you clean the floor then you sand it. Because now youre sanding the dirt into the grain of the wood.
Anyway, i love the way it turned out, beautiful wooden floor like that, not to shiney and just lovely. Well done!!
And as always, love the editing, you are the master of RUclips on that.
thats a very good point actually, I never thought of that.i think I was lucky it came out great for a first time, thanks for enjoying the edit, I get a bit carried away at times😂😂
Only a Crobot knows the true meaning of struggle and pain, being on your ownsome Chris, you did well, I could nearly see your reflection beaming up from the floor! 15:29 😊
we are just used to struggling at this point 😂 exactly....lets hope I make Becca proud 😀
Love watching your progress. Cant wait to see Bex's reaction when she sees the lovely floor.. Well done Chris
Thanks for your trust, let's hope it drys as well 😂
Love watching you guys!! So so funny and love your shaking/buffing technique! Hilarious 😂😂😂 keep up the great work!!! 🤩👍🏻👏🏻
thanks so much for enjoying the channel 😀❤️
Expert Joiner here, Excellent job buffing, well done. Not had a good buffing since 81 behind the Bike Sheds at School, or what that a sneaky number 10 cig, Just nip out to Screwfix or where ever and buy a attachment for your Cordless Drill, it will always come in handy in the future. If Bex hadn't of been so selfish and gone on a Girly Holiday without finishing her jobs you could of shown off your work in all it's glory, selfish, selfish Bex!🙃
Thanks Dave, haha thats brilliant, I should have probably just got the pad for the drill really, exactly....how selfish of her haha....she missed out on my special buffing techniques
Well I think it looks brilliant Chris surely Beccs will be happy with it. 12 months since that floor was done, wow it only seems like a few months ago. LOL. We’re finally in our new home, moved in on the 13th, it’s so beautiful here and as soon as we get all these boxes unpacked we’ll be happy. Biggest news is our internet was connected today, yeahhhh. Another good laugh, thanks Chris and love to Beccs, take care guys, see you soon. 💕
I was proper happy with it Pauline, especially for a first go.time flies doesn't it but we got there in the end. oh woaw congratulations hope the transition goes extra smoothly for you , have a great week x
I bet you were happy it, looked great. Just absolutely love our new home lots is like the UK, very, very green, even got a river just down the street, maybe not quiet suitable for a narrowboat though. Wish we could add photos. Oh well.
It looks good to me. I think you did an excellent job. I think Becca will agree and will be proud of you. Your editing is great Chris, sound effects and all. You have great comedic sense. You need an agent!
😊🤗 Kathy
Thank you Kathy, who would have believed it...im actually learning 😂 Thanks so much for noticing....and dont tell Becca I have good comedic sense...it will only make things worse for her 😂😂
@@TheNomadicCrobot I won’t breathe a word. 😜
😂😂
Floor is absolutely gorgeous well done!
Thank you so much ❤️
Good for Bex! She's escaped for a bit from you know who! Sealing the floor, easy yes, for most people, but..... 😃 You say it worries you when you are left alone to do jobs? Mmm, it worries us too.... So it was with fear and trepidation I saw you preparing to carry out this job! Was there a disaster awaiting? Sharp intake of breath. Yeah, we all foresaw the buffing pad disaster 😁 But hey, to me the end result looks really good. Of course you could do it! Correct? I don't know, but that looks like a super floor to me!
I dont blame her...it must be hard at times. Im actually really chuffed wihh the way it came out, im sure there were some parts that could have been done a bit better, but not bad for a first time, Thank you
RE Flue: New installs of log burners need a double lined flue. Refitting an existing log burner doesnt need a double lined flue but they are recommended. Very costly to fit a double lined flue so would just go with a single. But dont quote me, its just what I saw on youtube last year.
Thanks so much for this. They are so expensive!! We are thinking we may need to stick with the single for now and possibly upgrade in the future when we have the funds. Thanks for sharing 😊
Shake well made me chuckle.
Looks great Chris and I look forward to the videos every Monday
good old crazy shake haha cheers Dave nice one 😀👍
Hi Chris, Your floor looks amazing. You have done a really good job. Becca will be so proud of you. Love the editing this week, wow you must have spent a lot of time doing it, and it shows, as it's a super classy edit. Love the visuals which you do so well, and of course the "Dramatic Music", I was in heaven!!!!! and the way you mixed it in with other music was just so perfect. Such a polished (pun intended) Vlog. Hope Becca had a nice Girly break. Take Care. Spoolbox.
Thank you, I think it came out really nice, Thanks for noticing again about the editing , so much work goes into them, maybe to much than is needed but I cant help myself, have a lovely week spoolbox
Nice job Chris, hope Becs let's you do the hatch when she finishes it
Fingers crossed its turned out right 😀
I’m so proud of you! I think you did a great job!!!
I might actually be learning 😂😂 thanks
Looks fantastic! You guys should be able to look around and feel mighty proud of all that you guys have accomplished!
It looks like it may be near winter when u are done& could finally set off. Will u do head of, or wait til Spring?
I am sure life in the Winter time is a lot easier in a Marina than out on the cut. Plus not sure if winter closures will affect your line of travel.
Maybe just some fun shorter excursions & then back into the Marina?
Looking forward to finding out, all thats left to do.
I cant wait though for you guys to have the warm water & heater sorted out. After having gone on the boat so long without, it prob will feel as if life has suddenly become quite luxurious.
Cant wait for ur next video! Hope Becks had a great lil vaca& u got to enjoy some time off as well.
Thank you I think it came out really nicely in the end. I really cant see us going this year, though the first few months of next year could maybe work, we are getting closer on that has been a huggggge job. I think we may just look to do small days out then save the big cruise of the entire network till next year. thanks for doing us
Fabulous job Chris. Shame Bex wouldn't let you do the entire floor. Good to see the hull space is dry. Best wishes as always, Deb
Thanks Deb, sorry I couldn't let it go about the hatch 😂😂 have a lovely week
Hi Chris floor looks great bex will love it for sure. Your chimney needs to be a double skinned one have a look on the Internet the boat safety inspector said it's because if you tripped and fell against it you would get a nasty burn also the legs of the stove have to be screwed to the hearth because if you were going along and had a bump it couldn't move hope this helps.😊😊
It’s a recommendation not mandatory. What if you trip and touch the stove? As for the legs, the stove must be “secure” so you can fix it to the hearth or to the wall.
yes the diagram does recommend it though it does now seam its not mandatory, so as long as we dont burn down I think were ok, because the insurance probably wouldn't pay. Yes it seams it being screwed down in massively important to pass, thanks so much for your insight
@@TheNomadicCrobot I’ll msg you a copy of the bss regs
@@TheNomadicCrobot hi Chris & bex glad you found the information helpful. There is a book with all the boat safety certificate standards I can't remember where we got it and some of it may be out of date 😂😂
Brilliant! Gorgeous floor. Lovely work❤.
Thank you so much 😀
The Bruce Lee approach to narrowboat DIY.....All the best, Tricia and Neil....
something like that 😂😂
Hi Team WW. Don't think it a legal requirement on existing installations. However, if there's an issue with creosote running back down the flue as it condenses on a cold chimney, causing tar build up, thereafter rotting the fire cement and rope seals, then it will be safer by default, from escape of gasses or chimney fire.
I believe insulated, will need less farting around with re sealing, sweeping and be less maintenance generally in the future.
I've had enough of the tar condensing, in my traditional flue and if I see this Winter out with it, it'll be getting changed next year. Still waiting to see you on the K and A on your CC adventures, I'm heading East from Bristol now, so will likely be up the Union, by the Spring! Best, Mike.
Thank you so much, so kind of you time and time again , we really appreciate the love
Good job Captain Chris!👍You have the whitest socks known to Man!
why thank you 😂😂
Awww grand Chris Bex will be so proud of you has we are tc now the oldies 🌟👍🤗
Thanks for joining us time and time again 😀
Ha, you're such a worrier. You're doing great. The lady will be well pleased
she was very happy with me 😊
An insulated flue increases the completeness of combustion so you actually get MORE heat into your boat for a given amount of fuel you use (& the exhaust fumes from rhe chimney are cleaner). 😊 (Dot)
Oh thats so interesting thanks for your Insight 😀
The floor looks great! Well done!
cheers Ian
Hi Chris great job on the floor looks great well done
thank you so much 😀
Yes clean the floor first then sand it , as grit and other stuff will mark the floor.
Well done Chris. You did a great job with those rollers. You can definitely do a video on buffing 😂. Bex should be chuffed with the results. Take care. Nick
Thanks Nick watch this space for a full on buffing tutorial 😂😂
Well done Chris that floor looks amazing you’ll defo be in Bex’ good books 🙌. Hope she has a lovely time away. Big hugs guys 🤗🤗🤗
Hi Estelle, I think I may be in good books 😂 thanks so much for tuning in , have a lovely week ❤️
think you did an excellent job there Chris, floor looks fantastic, and the bilges are dry so its a win win really.
yayyyy thats always a good sign, thanks so much for watching 😀
Just like straight away this channel never fails to deliver
❤
thank you so much ❤️👍
Totally agree 😊
It looks great mate, well done.
Thanks 😀
Hi Chris, What a great Vlog. Cheers my😂 narrowboater.😅xx🎉
Thanks for tuning in 😀
Nice one Chris you will be painting by numbers next 🤣🤣 ...no seriously you did a top job there have a Top week dude 🙂🎸🔧✌️
Thanks Lee....proper adult now haha
You really should get some buffing pads for your sander.
The floor's looking good anyway though!
it would have been much much easier , thank you 😀
One word...NUTTER! 🤣You're as mad as a hatter! Love it! 😂 Seriously though, the floor looks lovely and I'm sure it'll meet with Bex's approval! Take care! 😘🌻
Thanks I think it may be the hard wax fumes 😂😂 it came out great, well chuffed thanks so much for watching time and time again
I think! Chris - If I were Becka going away for a few days - I might INSIST on having You 'Sectioned' for the duration .... Just to be SAFE!! ... Good luck Frank (Some Mothers do ......... ) 😂😂
haha brilliant....thats not a bad shout at all 😂😂
I didn’t even have to drink wine 🍷 and bless me, I watched this video twice! 🤣😜😂
Oh woaw...that's progression Shoan.... I'm actually surprised how nice it looked, now just to Try and my hands on that hatch
All of those little black spots you keep pointing out, they will stick out like a soar thumb. Lol
dont say that 😂😂
Great work 😊
Fantastic editing 😊 always enjoy your vlogs 😂 keep them coming.
Good luck and stay safe 😊
thank you so much for joining us again 👍😀
Well done Chris 👏 👏👏 looks great 😊
Thanks so much 😀👍
Looks really good, and you have the protection.
Thank you yayyy
I thought 'buffing' in this case, meant polishing with a soft cloth? To get a nice shine? Could be wrong, tho .....
there are supposedly a few different techniques according to Bex, this one supposedly gives it more a satin/ matt look and works the oil into the floor were as the other way will make it shinny...thanks for your question 😀
Looking good Chris.
Thanks buddy now to just get the boat finally moving 😂😂
Looks good.
Thanks :)
Awww Chris you really do try! I’m very very very proud of you. But I can’t speak for Becky boop! ( just made that name up!) I’m sure she will be proud too ! Love you botty duo ! Xxx
thank you Mandy, I was proper chuffed with my floor, fingers crossed the boss will be proud have a lovely week take care xxx
Looks amazing. Well done 🤜🏻👍🏻🖖🏻
Thank you
The double skin flue is a Heatas recommendation, not a legal requirement. They claim they improve the performance of the stove and are safer because you can put your hand on it when it's running, why you would put your hand on a stove pipe I am not sure. I don't like them, they reduce radiant heat in the boat and cost way too much. Also they tend to be made out of very thin steel, when the inner liner rots out you can't see it and it can leak fumes into the boat. Stick with a heavy duty steel flue, just make a good job of clearance from the roof lining around the chimney collar, remember the chimney register?
thats interesting, yes the flu does get hot.i have a feeling we may stick with what we have and just make it mega safe thanks for all the tips 😀
Looks good well done 👍
thank you 😀
Either way looks really good. Nice job .
thanks Garyl 😀👍
I think you did a fab job of it.
Thank you 😊
Thanks
Thank you so much, this is so kind of you ❤️❤️
Should have put the buffing pads on to your socks and skated about for a while.
Should have nipped over to the pub and got well oiled yourself after all that hard work🙂
Yes that's what I was going to suggest!
haha brilliant idea, watch this space for the living room 😂
Looks good
Cheers :)
Hi Chris, the floor looks great, Becca will be pleased. What happened to the maverick I thought you said he was coming to sort out your log burner?
Yes hes coming up in the next weeks, and its getting very very cold so were gonna need that stove back in, thanks 😀👍
I'm certain you are better at DIY than me, at least you can cut in a straight line, which I can't! and like your boat, my house has developed a leak! I think from the shower, while I don't have a bilge, I do have a very wet sub floor :( plumber hopefully en-route to sort it, I hope, oh the joys a? I should have made a channel about my nightmare house, you both and I have been renovating at the same time ;)
hmmmm im not sure about that, have you seen my hatches?? 😂 woaw that would have made for great viewing...never to late to start 😂
I'm having my flue renewed and I thought it was double skin already but apparently not. He said keep it as single as you get more heat from stove. I already had a stainless steel grill that is attached to the flue as protection from people putting their hands on it. So I would suggest something like that for you
thats interesting, thats exactly what people have been telling us, thanks so much for your suggestion
Hi crobots .have a question for u . The jingle u have made for the deptech can I use it for my ringtone. Its amazing keep up the great work your doing. And hopefully see you on the cut next yr to x
Haha that's brilliant, absolutely if you know how to do it, thanks for thr support and hope you have had a great Christmas 🎄 😃❤
Did bex like the flooring all that hard work you did.
she did indeed...I was a very good boy 😀
Looks fine to me!! You don't want a glossy floor as that could cause someone to slip A over T! Dya know wot I mean???
Exactly, we didn't really want it Overy glossy. Bex would go flying 😂
180 grit is for finishing.
thanks Martin
Any chance we can have a hour or longer episode pleaseeeee❤
now that would be an awesome idea, cheers Simon for the support ❤️
@@TheNomadicCrobot ❤️❤️❤️
That floor and kitchen looks amazing so far. You've done so well for amateur boaters and DIY buffs. Just show what you can do if you love it. My flue is single skinned. 🫡🫵👍👍💪
yea think we may stick to the single...we need as much heat as we can get, cheers Will...at least I didnt ruin it 😂😂
'ere Chris, you're a musician, when yer gonna give us a tune. P S, no folky stuff. And where did you get your tats done.
well there's halloween on the way...Bex has been itching to do a halloween episode...dare I say whip the guitars out??? I went all over the country really for the tats, there's a great one in haverhill called legacy ink 😀
The BSS rules are confusing aren’t they; the word “should” is used way more than “must”. If the flue is insulated, it can be closer to flammable surfaces but how close probably depends on the model of stove.
this ie exactly it, maybe its all depending on how your boss inspector is. thanks for your insight Tim
Eton Socon's Karate kid 😆. Sorry couldn't resist!
What a compliment 😂
@9:22 I heard “my, Crow Fire Tubes” not “microfibre roller noises” lol
haha.... its nice to know I not the only one going mad 😂😂
Well done Chris floor looks great. I was A tad worried about the floor when you said you were doing it and Bex was away, especially when you poured the last lot of the wax on 😂
Good to see the Titan again i miss seeing that fella. ❤ im sure Bex will be proud of you this week 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yes I was worried too...imagine if it went wrong 😂 a whole episode of me sanding it off again I suppose. what a great excuse to whip mr Titan out...Bex is going to be welllll happy 😀
Should have used a 80 grit first, a 180 is for r
I know...someone forgot to give me the memo 😂😂😂
Buff my a*se, it looks better shiny haha I would put a final coat on & leave it shiny!
haha I actually quite like it sheny....and also makes it easier to slide around on 😂
Skid round the floor in your socks. Buffing will be done.
love this idea 😂😂
You doing the floors you say use honey sealing wax it gets better with age if you understand what I mean and all naturel to
Oh wow that sounds amazing!
Watching while drunk on non alcoholic alcohol lol
haha we recommend to drink doubles 😂😂
Or wrap tour feet up well with her best soft towel and slide uo and down the floor. Give her the good news first.....
now there's an amazing idea
Sorry to be truthful . you balls it up . Its meant to be glossy. Coat it let it dry repeat . buff it when completely dry . Use a microfibre cloth to buff not that abrasive pad you used . Unless you don't required a glossy floor.
yes we are going for a matt look, at times I did feel I may be doing it wrong but the idea is you work the oils into the wood without letting it fully dry, thanks for your comment
Okay, maybe it's me, but to get the gist of what you're doing, i can watch the vlog for 2 seconds, fast-forward for 10, repeatedly. You do you, however.
That's interesting
are you afraid that if you actually went boating your sponsors would leave?
Who are our sponsors?? Please tell us more 😀
I must apologise but it seems that all the canal travelling content has gone and I was hoping you would fill the void! Foxes Afloat seemed to make enough dosh to buy a house in the highlands and all the rest have been scared off the canals by hooligans? @@TheNomadicCrobot
Is it the duck food company?
We're over half way on the build now, we will get to the canals that's the plan absolutely, I'm sick of the marina 😂 as lovely as its is and saving are slowly running out ,but we will get there 😀
Unfortunately we don't have any sponsorship 😥
I think your comedy is wearing a bit thin, perhaps if you stop pouncing about and got on with a bit of work you might make a bit of progress aboard your static narrowboat.
Why did the chicken cross the road?
You might struggle to match the colour on the hatch you should of done it all same time 🕰️ excellent effort 🎉sir Chris notalot 🫡
owwww maybe I never thought of that, fingers crossed it works out
Thanks
Thank you so much John, so kind of you 😀❤️
Thanks
Thanks so much for this, time and time again. we really appreciate the support ❤️
