Did you know I have a "Buy Me A Coffee" page buymeacoffee.com/countryhousegent Perfect for when you'd like to contribute to the channel, or simply want to buy me a coffee/pork pie/beer/lamb vindaloo (delete where applicable). Cheers,
It’s so odd watching you go past my house, my old school, the pub I drink in and the canal I’ve walked countless times with my dog. One of my mates lives in one of the blocks of flats you went past, my dad used to work at one of the factories you went past. So glad to see you back.
Many elements have kept me watching since the beginning , including your sense of humor. "If there weren't fish they'd be enjoying a rather boring hobby" killed me! Cheers
Pink Rosebay Willowherb, and the purple Buddleia are all along that stretch of canal. Just beautiful, except for the whole “invasive” aspect of the buddleia. I read that both of those plants, along with another pink one I can’t remember the name of were the first flowering plants to grow in the bomb sites in and around London. Butterflies just love the purple buddleia flowers too. It seems to thrive on “waste” ground and alongside railway lines. Nature is such a great decorator ❤
I found your videos during a very depressing time of my life. I found solace in watching these and it got me thru this terrible time. I am still here and getting along. Thank you! Keep going strong. You are helping a lot of us. Hope to meet you someday and say thank you.
Love the rural bits. Interested in the abandoned bit of the Oxford, will see if it's on old maps. It made sense to go to Coventry. M6 - previous life - disappearing in the mists of time... The graffiti is depressing. The amount of stuff people store on top of their boats you'd have thought that they would have designed in lockers or summat.
If you hadn't said, I would have sworn that poem was the work of Percy Bysshe Shelley. Lovely to have you back on the canals for our viewing pleasure Sir.
Yes, yes, yes ... no looking at ya dinner, and we go oooooh boating all over the world. Well a short stretch of the Coventry anyway, but thats just the Status Quo. 👍🤘🤘🤘😉
Enjoying the start to season ten Kevin. We passed Aslan snoozing peacefully, but apparently unoccupied near Hawkesbury Junction a few weeks ago. One of these days we'll get an opportunity for a catch-up. We really enjoyed our stay in Coventry Basin, hope you do too. It's always worth ignoring the naysayers and finding out for yourself. Looking forward to your Oxford adventures. Take care. Tony & Gill, Golden Girl (Fettlers Wharf).
Ah hello Tony and crew. Yes I was probably out in search of a supermarket and a decent latte. Agreed, Coventry Basin was an unexpected surprise. I'll keep an eye out for Golden Girl.
Kevin, we're a couple from the state of Nebraska who discovered your series during the initial pandemic shutdown in the Spring of 2020. We've been avid fans since. We like to think we're getting an inside look of England. We've yet to make it to your country, but it's definitely on our bucket list. Keep up the good work! Paul & Linda Rasmussen
Thank you so much for that, it's very much appreciated. Rewarding to hear the videos and series brought some comfort and enjoyment during a very difficult time and I can heartedly recommended a visit to old Blighty, and especially the canal network. 🙂
Great to see you again 😊 I love the canal poem. It reminded me of the pointy birds poem that Steve Martin told in one of his films 😅 pointy birds a pointy pointy, annoint my head , a nointy nointy 😂
My wife and I are bed-ridden due to a summer cold/flu. Your show on Amazon has been providing perfectly relaxing binge-watching material. Very well done. Also, I get the hint that God is trying to get your attention. Nothing bad, but from a place of grace and love.
Congratulations on Season 10! I love your opening song, which I know you wrote. And I love that you showed us exactly how you start Aslan up, gave us the Google Maps view, and your plan for the journey. I think you've got a good eye for scenery and color, and your sense of humor keeps me coming back. Looking forward to the season!
Stoke Heath Basin (Swan Lane) - seems an unlikely spot now, but back in the seventies this was home to Clubline Cruisers, a substantial fleet of hire boats, each named after a different playing card. The business has long since passed into history, but this was the origin of my narrowboating experiences. 🙂
I really enjoyed your video! Loved and appreciated the maps, nice! Looks like a great peaceful life enjoying the peaceful canals! And the your song was fun!😂
First thing I hear, horses whinnying, never saw them:( Then, your voice, starting Season 10, yay, lovely to have you and Aslan back in our lives, here in Juneau, Alaska! Your weather often mimics ours and love it when we get summer, again, in between the bouts of cloudy, rainy stretches! Looking forward to your dry sense of humor, your cooking, your videos full of interesting history of the canals. Virtual travel is so entertaining, thanks to you and Aslan! Good luck and good health for this next season, we’ll be watching!❤
It never fails to amaze me how old people like the same music I grew up with (love your t-shirts!)...... hey, wait a minute... 🤔 You know you're old when you hear your favorite songs playing in an elevator or over the PA system of your grocery store. 🤣
Greetings from Florida's Nature Coast! Always a good thing when a new season of Travels by Narrowboat premieres! But, there's a dark cloud on the horizon... I notice you're not wearing the blue shirt with sleeves rolled up to your elbows.😂 On to the Oxford Canal!
Hello Kevin, Fellow Gen Xer here from Nashville. A great first S10 episode! I sincerely thank you for providing such extremely rich content to all of us over the past six years! From sharing your experiences, humility, & personal growth while traveling down the most characterful canals in the world to offering advice on navigating life’s ups & downs with courage, dignity, & humor to proving how fulfilling & satisfying one can live by simplifying things, slowing down, & focusing on what’s really important around you. I mean, to those of us who think & feel…yes, Rush reference :)…your videos are soul food that hits on all cylinders & provides balance to allow one to have pleasant & inspiring thoughts. Of course, Aslan is cool, too :)! Have a great Season 10 journey & take care! Hats off to Country House Gent! Cheers!
Many thanks Mark, it's very heart warming to hear that the series is appreciated for what I hoped it would become - the life, personal growth, experiences and opinions of someone who became world-weary and decided to do their utmost to make a difference, as much as is possible. At the time I thought that 'difference' would be only to my life, not as transpired, to countless people around the world. Cheers, 🙂
I had a friend who lived in the flats near to Red Lane New Bridge 5A, and just up from Stoke Heath Basin. Last time I was staying there some years ago, the Canal froze over enough to skate on.
Greetings from southern Indiana. I have been enjoying your videos since season one when I stumbled across them on Amazon Prime. I always look forward to them.
The bridge that you passed under with the swan family painted on it was so pretty. I’m glad to see that it was still pristine and didn’t have graffiti painted on top of it.
Re the shopping trollies, there were two,,, aha must have been a breading pair set loose to establish a new colony,,, Have been following your posts for some time now, and look forward to each and every one,,, 😎😎
Hi, great to see you back. and on my local canal, Marston junction is a short walk for us. Although the last time we walked to Sutton Stop out with the cameras there was still ice in places. The Greyhound is one of the best pubs in the area. Look forward to the next bit of the journey.
Season 10 wow I've been watching you since season 1 when you first got the boat still looks good. Well good your least wearing your Rush t-shirt one of the best bands there's never been. Rush is one of my favorites and my all-time favorite is yes.
Good morning Kevin, what a state that canal was in! Numerous shopping trollies and one black bag of household waste. That was only in the water. Above it there were over hanging branches and towpath looked uncared for. Seems to me there are some very untidy, lazy people living around there. You were wise not to moor up in that area.
Excellent Kevin. I must say tho, I wanted to scowl a bit when I saw the “to be continued” come up on the screen. I was locked in to it for sure. 😂 For an industrial canal it still seems to have its scenery. Thank you brother!!!
My memories of the Coventry are….as 8ft dia heavy cable drum, a 8ft x 4ft carpet, a wheelbarrow, 2 dozen shopping trollies. I only did the Coventry once in 15 years of constantly cruising.
Yes, certainly a canal less travelled, not to mention a canal with less maintenance! The abundance of trash in the canal and the string of abandoned narrow boats can’t make for a very enjoyable journey 😮
Fascinating watching familiar local stuff through the CHG lens. We've only explored these parts since starting to watch your channel just over a year ago. I hope my forensic interest in your journey has not spooked you. I do cycle rides most afternoons anyway, but there were a few strategic routes, sightings of Aslan moored up and a couple of encounters with the skipper (second of which spooked me) before finally getting to witness you and her gently chugging along last Sunday - that was the aim - wow, made my week! Thanks for opening up a whole new world to us; places like Braunston - heavenly. Total respect for your solitary and self-sufficient life and you skill in sharing it with us lucky viewers. 😍
Greetings from Florida. Thank you for allowing us to live vicariously thru your travels. I am SO looking forward to Season 10. I can't wait to visit the towns, villages and hamlets with you.
So much has changed...There used to be a row of weavers cottages with massive north facing windows on the third floor (which was the workroom) so they had good light all year round. The Courtaulds factory (by Foleshill Road) whose 'effluent', besides being mainly water, contained enough chemicals that the water was crystal clear...so you could see the shopping trolleys you were going over! I can remember when The Greyhound had sawdust on the floor and wooden settles...then a brewery bought it and spoilt it! For info, if you look at most of the older bridges, you will see a 2 foot square panel in the parapet which has been bricked up. Originally, they had red wooden doors so the fire brigade could drop their hoses into the canal for water...a very common sight on the BCN too. Keep up the good work Kev!
I have spent my summer working 6 and 7 days a week because my Subaru broke down so I i took the money I saved during that time and bought a minivan that I will be converting to a camper. 😊 it will be a couple of years before I am able to live in it full time but I dont have to save for a van now. This is my 1st weekend off since the end of June so I have time to catch up on your videos. Happy trails! ❤
If I remember rightly port is left and green, starboard is right and red. And watercraft pass each other port to port and has nothing to do with us driving on land. Just a note.
A nice leisurely start to Season 10. Things are looking up! I spent part of your journey mentally designing a narrow boaters headgear that has a revolving blade to slice the trailing whisps of willow as you travel along. Happy S10 Mr Gent,
Very nicely done Kevin!! One of the best episodes!! You might be interested in knowing I watched this episode on a Quest 2 VR headset... I'm going to watch all the rest of them that way because it is almost 3D... Cheers from Tennessee, USA
Great to see you back on the “canal” again! You must let me know when your down at Devizes so we can wave you through… and possible help you and Aslan through the Calne locks!
Did you know I have a "Buy Me A Coffee" page buymeacoffee.com/countryhousegent Perfect for when you'd like to contribute to the channel, or simply want to buy me a coffee/pork pie/beer/lamb vindaloo (delete where applicable). Cheers,
Aslan’s engine is one of the most soothing sounds I have ever heard
Asmr black screen for all of these would be fantastic for bedtime. First time thru I watch, repeats are to just relax and ride along and drift off. ❤
You need to listen to a Gardner 5 pot.
This is one of the very few channels that I will NOT listen to at a faster speed
It’s so odd watching you go past my house, my old school, the pub I drink in and the canal I’ve walked countless times with my dog.

"A canal less traveled," and that has made all the difference. Truer words were never spoken. ;-)
You've alluded to my favorite poet, Robert Frost. Takes me happily back to growing up in New England. Leigh, now in Texas
Thanks for the gentle journey, Kevin. Looking forward to season 10. Leigh
My favorite narrowboater is back! And with my favorite show theme! Gotta say, tho, that graveyard was creeeepy. Cheers Kevin!
on the road again nice 1 bud thanks keep on trucking

YAY Kevin and Aslan are back!!!!!
I’m so glad to see your new season begin Mr. Gent. Thanks for sharing your travels with us.
🎉
Your poem was awesome! Reminding me of Victor's: "Sconio o Sconio, how I wish that you were mine, lying on a tea plate, covered in Margarine.. " 😁
nice to see you back on the water and MOST important, nice to see you keep wearing them T-Shirts!
Nice one, Kev! You've MFGA (Made Fridays Great Again)!

Hi Kevin hooray great to see you and ASLAN back on your travels and sharing them with us, been waiting for this since season 9 ended
I love the smell of diesel in the morning
Congratulations on Season 10! I love your opening song, which I know you wrote. Cheers for tuning in. 🙂 Yep, unfortunately the horse was hidden behind a large hedgerow.
Thank you for your poetry and recital thereof! Short but to the point!
Keep doing what you're doing and wear what you like Kevin...
Kevin I believe I sense an onward and upward surge going forward.
Good on ya.
Oh canal- Oh canal. 😊

Nicely done, especially the opener. Taking us through your startup routine set up my anticipation for what lays ahead in season 10!
Beautiful country-side! Feels very Britain.
Good to see season 10 underway, happy boating we look forward to your travels! (Feel free to throw in some cooking videos, always fun to watch).
I too used to visit the Jaguar factory at Browns lane. I think all production has now moved to Solihull. Land Rover factory.
Re the shopping trollies, there were two,,, aha must have been a breading pair set loose to establish a new colony,,,
Have been following your posts for some time now, and look forward to each and every one,,,
😎😎
I think you're right. Notice how they were feeding together in the water, preparing to mate no doubt.
How lovely. not surprised by all the shopping carts in the canal, they sell them at Aldi for only a pound! LOL. Great to have you back
😆 That's very true
Hi, great to see you back.
and on my local canal, Marston junction is a short walk for us. Although the last time we walked to Sutton Stop out with the cameras there was still ice in places. The Greyhound is one of the best pubs in the area. Look forward to the next bit of the journey.
Been looking forward to your return, I'm about to start my own adventure afloat. Stay safe and keep up the good work. Chug chug chug chug
Oh very brave heading up there ! The food is great at the greyhound x
Another great season 👏 my boat will be ready very soon moving onto the water can't wait
I’m glad you are back! I have been watching reruns during your break.
Ah Kevin and Aslan I love these videos. Keep on man!
John Cooper-Clarke will be quaking in his boots. We're heading back darn sarf - hope we'll meet again on our travels 👍
Cheers Guys. Are you permanently leaving that gorgeous mooring and garden of yours?
Yep, the lure of continuously cruisng and not knowing where we're going has taken over 🙄
Ha yes, tell me about it 😆 (until 9 months time and the lure of a mooring again).
Thanks!
Many thanks John, I appreciate that. 🙂
So happy you’re Back! I will watch again because there were friendly interruptions. It is Friday night where I live, 🤣
Wonderful to see you back and looking well 🌸
Another great canal video. Greetings from Jackson, TN USA
Season 10 wow I've been watching you since season 1 when you first got the boat still looks good. Well good your least wearing your Rush t-shirt one of the best bands there's never been. Rush is one of my favorites and my all-time favorite is yes.

Oh, that was great. Thank you, man. Pleasant, visual, and informative. I like hearing little stories and such about where you are. All good.
Fabulous thank you Art.
Excellent Kevin. I must say tho, I wanted to scowl a bit when I saw the “to be continued” come up on the screen. I was locked in to it for sure. 😂 For an industrial canal it still seems to have its scenery. Thank you brother!!!
😁 Keep them wanting more is my mantra. 🤗
I'm on a lake on the other side of the Pond, and I enjoyed your series. I had no idea Britain had so much navigable waterways.
Crazy yes. It's possible to reach most major cities in England by boat.
I’ve been looking forward to this for an age! Finally making your way down south to where I live….for ref I live not far from the Basingstoke Canal
good tosee you back Kevin and Aslanxx
So glad you are back. Love aslan’s engine
Hi Kev. Another great vlog and I loved the reference to JCC! Keep the faith, pal.!
Really enjoy your humour Kevin
Glad your back. Love the programmes. Take care.
Thanks for the ride, 😊 Kevin
Thanks! Been looking forward to Season 10.
Welcome back Kevin, great vlog as usual, not so much the poetry 👍😁
Your poetry is thought-provoking... I'm not going to tell you what my thoughts were, though... 😊 Love this video!!! Hugs from Tennessee ❤
🙂 You may be surprised that possibly my thoughts are the same as yours. 😁
Oooo I'm excited to watch after work! Thanks Kevin!
Still going strong 😂 great to see the you tube epic😊 times on my TV..
Greetings from Florida. Thank you for allowing us to live vicariously thru your travels. I am SO looking forward to Season 10. I can't wait to visit the towns, villages and hamlets with you.

Welcome back! Excited to start season 10 in US.
Been watching for several years…just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy your show. Thank you!
Glad to see you again good sr
Nice Pub the Greyhound. Last time I went. 👍🏼😎
Agreed, very original and authentic and a delicious Guinness, or three. 🙂
Enjoying the journey, also great journey on the Lancaster Canal. You won't get as good a meat pie down there, though. 😊
Cheers to season 10! It’s interesting that you guys drive on the left, but seem to usually pass on the right when on the canals.
If I remember rightly port is left and green, starboard is right and red. And watercraft pass each other port to port and has nothing to do with us driving on land. Just a note.

Yes Steve, that is very interesting. Wouldn't mind experiencing that for myself.
Great to see you back on the “canal” again! You must let me know when your down at Devizes so we can wave you through… and possible help you and Aslan through the Calne locks!
