- Gooday everyone. Join Aslan and I as we continue our journey down the Bridgewater canal, arriving at Preston Brook Tunnel.
For me, tunnels have always been something to approach with a little trepidation - luckily I had the foresight to fit Aslan with a new, brighter, LED tunnel-light bulb, which should ensure the journey goes without a hitch . . .
Later and having emerged from the southern end of Preston Brook Tunnel, I arrive onto the Trent & Mersey Canal and one of the shallowest locks on the canal network - no problem for an experienced, seasoned canal veteran, such as myself . . .
After such an eventful afternoon, I'm relieved to finally arrive at my mooring, overlooking the Dutton Valley and also the place where I filmed the intro' to my Middlewich Narrowboat Christmas Special.

Asking for prayers for our 33 year old daughter who has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Prayers are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.🙏💖🌼✝️
Sending healing thoughts, Tina. Best wishes.
Tina ,you are in my thoughts and in my heart. 💗🙏💗
Thank y'all so very very much for the prayers. They are very much appreciated. Have a blessed evening.
thoughts, prayers and healing on the way to you all
Sending prayers and healing thoughts to your daughter and all your family Tina. I will pop into the cathedral near where I live here in Klosterneuburg in Austria and light a candle and also ask my friend who is a monk there to include you all in their prayers. May your daughter have a full recovery and a long and happy life ahead of her.
35 seconds into the video and I can feel my blood pressure and heart rate drop. Relaxing to watch and a great joy.
I'd say that's mission accomplished, Dan?
@@CountryHouseGent most definitely. It’s like therapy in a video. Thank you 😊👍😊
My Bloodpressure was going up
95% of people would have edited out that fall. One more reason why I love this channel, you are truly authentic.
Really can't explain why exactly, but this is one of the few channels I'm subscribed to that I greedily watch as soon as I see a new post. Keep doing what you're doing, Kevin!
Awesome Loren, thank you. Reassuring to hear that. 😊
Me too, I always look forward to new episodes, it just makes the day tons better
Same here. It’s the only channel that makes you feel good!! 👍😜
Couldn't agree more... love the guitar/ singing make me smile.
And don't forget the cooking lessons. He can sure whip up those dinners.
So happy to have the reassuring chug of Aslan's faithful engine - and your narration style is right up my street! This made my day thanks! Carry on cruising!
I appreciate how you are so very candid, and share even your scary stuff with us all. It's a bond.
Thanks Jeanne. What you get is what you see. 🙂
Fantastic, and you will be one of the last folks standing with Foxes buying a farm, David Johns selling his boat, Minimal list bogged down refurbishing, etc.
Certainly looking that way. All very strange.
@@CountryHouseGent Well Robbie Cumming doing well. Bet he's there for the long haul. Watching his Canal Boat Diaries Season 3 which is blocked by BBC to the outside world...I'm in US...just have to find (with a little persistence) the right bootleg channel to see Robbie's.
@@teasip Just watched myself 👍👍
@@CountryHouseGent isn't it kevin?
Cheers Kevin! So good to have you back on the canals. Don't think you realize just what effect you and your videos have on your fans. It's a nice respite from our own realities. Just know when you're cruising along and you feel alone, you've got a group that's right there with you in heart and spirit. Your friends in Indiana.
The Hubners
Indeed Chris, I'm often told how the series and videos have helped in some way to get through all manner of moments in peoples lives. Quite, quite staggering acctually.
@@CountryHouseGent Kevin, I understand that you feel that way. Shouldn't come as a surprise though. You're a down to earth fellow that people can relate to. My family feel your a bit of a modern day Renaissance man. You've got a wonderful sense of humor, you're an excellent musician and a chef. Just keep being yourself.
I have to admit ... laughed throughout. Very funny. Your dry humour and slapstick is always appreciated.
I am very glad you are back making narrow boat videos. Thank you.
It's great to be back. Thanks, William.
It's good to see Kevin smiling again and some of those quirky . lol
I love your new redo of the older intro music. Always missed it when you changed it. It goes so well with Aslan & your narrow boat adventures. Thanks for sharing again with us, Kevin!
I appreciate how genuine you are and portray yourself just as your are...keeps me coming back to watch.
Thank you Beth. Yep, what you see is what you get. :D
Finally getting to cruise again, and we get to live vicariously through you, Kevin, with Aslan as our spirit animal. Don't ever stop that voodoo that you do!
The water fowl having a laugh at the beginning of the video told me something amusing was about to happen; and so it did. Good stuff.
I started watching this on Amazon prime, I was gutted when it finished and now I have just found this. I could watch it all day, I didn't even like boats, now I want one.
Awesome Craig, thank you. Pleased to hear you've picked up the boating 'bug'. It's contagious. 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent Thank you, it always made me laugh when you were told about bandit country, I know that area well as from Leeds. I think if I ever got a boat I would avoid that area. You went to some truly beautiful locations. Looking forward to watching more. Thanks mate.
Thanks Kevin. Nice to have you back. You give me hope as I’m always falling over.
Thank you, for the good natured laugh you gave me.
Nothing like a tripwire to wake you up in the morning 🤷♂️ .
Hearing that putt putt feels like coming home (or like meeting with an old friend). Thank you for all of your work and efforts. ❤️🇨🇦🇺🇸✝️
One thing Kev, we usually learn from our mistakes. Some very pleasant farmland and scenery, a lot of large houses, bits I've seen before, new stuff, facts and history, a lovely cruise. No broken bones. Thanks, and take care.
Thank you as always Phillip. Yes for me as well, the new travels and adventures don't start until I get to Kings Lock at Middlewich, and canals I haven't done before.
There’s nothing like the thump thump of Aslan to calm my nerves
I always enjoy the Eeyore mug shot 🙂
It’s the boat I love! But she wouldn’t be the same without you, lol. I’m still laughing about the light, 🤣
Lovely to hear that chugging sound again! It's just like no other!
Back in the saddle again. You are a nomad at heart. Mistakes do not make you an idiot. Mistakes make you human. Dust yourself off and move on. No pain no gain. Would like to see much more content just the same. Maintenance, cooking, shopping, riding your bicycle whatever. I think 90 minutes per upload would be watched by the true fan. Your the last river boat channel I subscribe to. Me thinks I'm not alone in this. Glad to catch you setting up your itinerary for the chopper, limo and hotel at video's ending. Been sand bagging your net worth all along. I knew it!
That i like about you and your videos, you always keep it real, and at times with some light entertainment to go with it as well.
On the canals again!!! Terrific first day! You are in the groove!!!
Or….’Much ado about Senior moments’ 😏Enjoyed that! 🤣
Definitely senior moments, Helen. Now I know what my father would complain about. 🙂
Let there be light! I’m glad you survived the power cut and thankfully didn’t fall in !
Fabulous, good to have you out and about again. Thanks for taking us along…looking forward to the next. Be well.
Really enjoyed your cruising videos and missed them during the past couple of years. So glad you've chosen to go back to cruising full-time and that you're able to now do it.
Love love love watching u. I live vicariously through u. Glad ur back
I can imagine the change of scenery is very welcome.
It sure is. Couldn't have remained stationary for ever.
It’s really pretty, how the canal sits above the farm land there. It’s really quite something when you look at pictures of “The breach” and think about what it took to build that back up with a lasting integrity. Those engineers and workers probably don’t get enough praise for that work.
Great video. Thanks for sharing Kevin. I'm glad that you included your "spill" at the lock. I'm glad that I'm not the only one out there that is clumsy. Smooth travels. I can't wait for the next episode!!
The solo* boaters best friend....the padded shirt......😂😂👍👍
Deceptively warm. Would be lost without it.
You’re back doing what we love to see.
Good video especially fall sequence and trick light sequence
Aslam’s engine and your song, yes we’re back on the canals 🌷👍😊
Thanks Laura. Yes, I thought the best way to say we're back, like old times, is the original theme tune.
@@CountryHouseGent I was also so glad to hear the original Travels By Narrowboat sound track.
So happy my favorite narrow boater is back on the canals. God speed good sir!
As soon as I hear Aslan’s engine and see your beautiful filming, my blood pressure drops and all is right. Thank you Kevin for being a glimmer of light in this chaotic world.
And a fine passage it was. . . . .Thank you for the ride!
You're very welcome Russel. Cheers,
Thanks for the lovely video Kevin and we all have brain farts now and then. We won't hold it against ya. 😊👍👋
You know that's real life, we learn as we go, thanks for sharing, travel well :)
Fumbling around looking for glasses is something I do too and 9 times out of 10 they’re on my noggin lolol.
🙄😅😅oh my word, first the light, and then flat on the floor.! I’m sorry I laughed out loud! Same thing happened to me 2 days before Christmas in the dark, hurricane force winds, my dogs last pee stop. Caught my foot under the fencing which was blowing up. Over I went, onto my brand new prosthetic knee, flat on my face. Smashed my teeth and nose. When I got inside, looked into the mirror I burst out laughing! Mud up to my hair, tufts of grass in my mouth. Lucky nothing hurt, just my pride!
Ouch and oh my god, that sounds horrendous Marion, and very painful. I hope you recovered quickly. Makes my muddy trousers look irrelevant. 😳
@@CountryHouseGent it wasn’t painful at the time, but there are a few aches now. The old bod isn’t a spring chicken anymore, funny that, the brain and heart are 30! 🙄🤣
Secondly if it had been on concrete like your fall, it would have been really a lot worse. So yes thank God I just got a mouthful of mud.
Kev, another great video.
Thanks TC.
So happy you are back out there with your great photography, good editing, and outstanding narration…life is good. Your Vlogs are a wonderful way to escape all the craziness in the world. Thank you for letting us share your day with you.
Thanks again Kevin, Another lovely vlog!👍💚
Kevin, great to see you out and about. Missed the canal videos. Glad you only got your trousers dirty. Not glad you fell, though made for good drama. Falling stuff we do everyday but not recorded. Take care, you get back in the swing of things. David n Pam
So glad to see you and Aslan chugging along. There is another Narrowboat channel I follow, but they up and decided to buy a small holding up in Scotland. They're still doing vlogs, but not on a narrowboat. So yours is now the only actual narrowboating channel I follow. And at the end of any given week I need the serenity of watching you and Aslan chug along though the countryside to help me refocus my soul to the really important things in life - being your own authentic self. Thank you for that, and keep up the good work.
Thank you Cecile. Yes, there does appear to now be a large 'gap' to fill with canal travel videos. I shall endeavour not to disappoint. 🙂
Even in the "errors" it could have been raining. And your boors are hansome.
I wish there was a 10 hour long recording of Aslan putting along, it's such a relaxing sound, I'd sleep like a baby every night listening to Aslan chugging down the canal
A one or two hour ASMR type video is on the cards.
Some of those narrowboats are so quiet, I miss that chugging sound.
I'd settle for 2hrs or even a bit less.
7 out of ten for style with the trip and laughed a little when the light came on
Great vlog , great vlogger . Luv the intro song . You're #1 . Hope you can continue with your cruising . I see where the Silver Fox Boys have sold out to become landlubbers and Cruising the Cut David is quitting and becoming a landlubber too . STAY SAFE & beware the slippey mud ..
Yes both announcements came as a complete suprise. Just be warned, I do have to go on land to buy groceries. :D
Oh Kevin, Kevin, Kevin what are you like, one of those days eh lol, great vlog😊👍
a great job with the video Kevin, thanks ,Be safe🙏⭐My Friend🐸
Thanks for sharing. Loved the phone call at the end. It’s great to see you on the canal. Cheers.
I found you, David and Shaun & Colin on Amazon, then after watchig every episode I could I found you, and more, on RUclips. I am following a bunch of you now, I have lost count. Young, older, single, couples, the one couple with a 6 month old baby, dogs and cats some of humans who have gone for unexpected swims…. What I am really enjoying is the diversity of each of you that I am following. It gives a great perspective about Narrowboating. Of course, the scenery is beautiful, the boat lifts and aqueducts a little more than impressive sometimes. I do think I would love it part of the time, but by the time I could downsize to such tight quarters, we definitely could not handle the frequent getting of water, and dumping of trash and toilets: and some of those canals look like fun, but also hard work sometimes. That being said, it is delightful to get to know and see what your lives are like, what you encounter, how you deal with that kind of life, and the UPS and DOWNS. I followed you on your camping and hiking treks, too. I am pleased to see you back on Aslan….and especially that you are meeting up with some of the others I follow. I know there are people who need and like to be alone…but sometimes even you looked too much alone when you needed someone.
compliments for choosing to show the challenging moments...
Hi Kevin 👋 just us2 saying hi 👋 thanks again for this video update 👍 den and sue 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🚌🚌🚌
Awesome Kevin just awesome, you are where you belong. Only certain breeds can do what you have and are doing. A Inspiration to us all.
Ha, breeds. I suppose it's in the genes?
@@CountryHouseGent i laughed at this one
Can't thank you enough! waiting for next episode with bated breath! Cheerio!
was a bit freaked out there for a bit! Your such a hoot..I believe it just comes natural.!.Awe bless you ! be safe!.. Nice to see you and nice to hear Aslan chugging along..Take care!..Happy cruising!...do love that Ah Oooga!!!!😄Lovely spot!
Another Great one as always and a Classic Ending, Thankyou.
So enjoyable! 😁
Thank you Kevin.
You're welcome Elvira, cheers.
howdy. Great cruising and the adventure of being out on the cut is fantastic. Cheers Keith
Wot a day ! WOT A DAY !
(,,)it happens ! But it's so reassuring that you came out of it unscathed (apart from your trousers) !
Tunnels and locks, I say, are a Boaters nightmare !
But so scary ! I was on the edge of my seat in case you bumped the tunnel wall !
Well after this it will be ALL downhill from here !
Oh didn't they tell you, since you last travelled these waters, the pounds now slope, doing away with the locks !
So plain sailing from here on in !
Looking forward to your new adventures on these Express waterways !
Stay safe !
Stu xx
And so we conclude with a Man genuinely happy with his lot.
Awesome thank you. It's been a long road but thinking I got there in the end. 😴
You are comical as can be. Love your videos,,!
Be careful.
Love to watch you cruising again! Can’t wait for next video
Oh so glad to have you back on the cut! Sorry bout the spill you took. Safe journeys and Cheers!
That was excellent! SO glad that you’re BACK! Great video!
👍👊😎
Grateful you are back cruising.
Just a tip. Take your exhaust and tall chimney down before entering a tunnel. You never know how low the roof will go and inside is no place to find out your cutter is not hitting the roof. (Especially when you forget to switch on your tunnel light.)
Good to see you back again.
The canals seem relatively devoid of fellow boaters cruising. Almost as if you have the entire canal system all to yourself Kevin. Looks absolutely ideal and idyllic.❣
It sure does feel that way though in the past week it's picked up a bit with this fabulous weather.
As they say, if good things lasted forever, would we appreciate how precious they are? Enjoy the silence and tranquility while it lasts. All the best to you.
I'm sorry I had a few good laughs, at your expense. You are a great sport!
I look forward to hearing about your doings at this location, it is so beautiful.
Enjoy 🙃
The chug of engine is back yeh! Eeyore mug at the ready. Welcome back to cruising. For me it's the voice with that hint of sarcasm. Obviously views, canal etc. Keep up the good work.
At least you found your glasses and they wasnt on your head like ive done before!!😁
Hi Kevin..
Just to say it was great to see you in the cut at Cholmondeston Lock..
Great work again and pls don’t stop as your work is a great help to many people..
Thanks again Lee…Black Pepper 👍🏻😎
Likewise Leeroy and cheers. Happy cruising,
Well that was quite enjoyable thank you Kevin! Be careful with those falls. My husband fell on the ice eight weeks ago and is still not healed, I fell a week after he did and I'm still having trouble using my right arm. It's no fun! But thankfully I get to watch you in your travels, and it's like a little vacation for me. I do so enjoy your vlogs!
Will do Allie but I know what you mean. I sprained my wrist about 9 months ago and it's still not 100%.
We really love your channel CHG!
Jody and Dave
Great fun being back on the water with you, despite your mishaps. Have to admit when you showed the fall I laughed like a child. Sorry Kevin, couldn’t help it. Hope it didn’t leave a bruise. Until next time…❣️
I must admit to having a giggle myself, several hours later looking at the video, Cathy. One slightly bruised knee but a bigger bruised pride. 😬
@@CountryHouseGent Awwww, sorry. It was muddy and slippery. Stay safe out there❣️
Very enjoyable video, the tunnel looked scary for me watching thanks for showing the incredible buildings along the way.
It’s funny, after my last comment about now watching just two channels I am now just down to you as David is selling his boat and leaving the canals and for me the most enjoyable aspect is the cruising. Keep up the great work Kevin!
Ay, that was an unexpected development Ian.
Same as Foxes, disappointing.
Ditto on the cruising!
Very nice to see…. Thanks for sharing!
This is exactly what love to watch, canal scenery and your adventures, thank you.
There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip. No harm done then. Another egg sighting episode. Well Done. Gpx
Haven't heard that phrase for a good while, Gram. Yes, absolutely.
Always good to watch
Glad to see you back on the cut
Watched on my tablet and on my tv tonight beautiful ride I like you show where you are going its like we are riding on the boat with you hi from Wishkah WA
Im very glad you did film your narrow boat travels, Ive been intrigued with the canals and boats there in England since catching a few glimpses of the canals on the old British tv show. (Last of the summer wine) then I discovered you.Now I dream of shucking it all here in Oklahoma , and do what your doing. well at least give it a year trial run, eh its a dream anyway, thanks for all the lovely videos!
Eeee😂😂😂a senior moment.
I think if it were me, my navigation may stop at the various pubs and restaurants enroute! Happy cruising Kevin. 👍😉👀
Well Barry, it would sure be a fun way... to run out of money. 😁
So glad you are back Kevin!! Hilarious!!
Pleased you enjoyed it, James.
thank you Kev. You are the best
This content is so good. Fills my heart with joy!
Great to hear that Jason, thank you.
Lovely video glad you weren’t hurt with the fall.
I actually got claustrophobic going thru the tunnel. Not sure I could have done that. Love the beautiful scenery.
Brilliant really enjoyed it👍
