Why I haven't seen this comment earlier? Same here!
I think it goes down mostly to music. While there are few peacful or epic tracks, most of them are somewhat ominous. Heck, the music used at the start of Piotions class was later used in Chamber of Secrets (both game and the level)!.

Loved this. I've always quite enjoyed the linear aspect of this game, I really liked seeing how different parts of the castle connected up to each other as you played through different levels. Plus it was nice knowing that in every section you always had the tools to find every secret, it was just a matter of exploration. I'm not sure what the modding scene for this game is like, but I'd love to see something that links up all the level geometry together.

I fondly remember playing this game on my dad's shitty laptop which could barely run the game at all... but it ran and I was happy! This was the height of the Harry Potter craze back in 2001/early 2002 when the first movie came out and Harry Potter merchandise was literally everywhere. But it was a more than solid game and did a really good job at capturing the atmosphere of the books and movies.

I was in 1st grade when the movie and game came out. It was a magical time of my life. I'm glad they didn't rely solely on the movie but took inspiration from the book as well and made the game more special in its own right, not just another video game adaptation.

First game I ever played, and one I still remember and come back to. My favourite part now are the levels where you're sneakign opast Filch, which is weird cause I used to find them terrifying (I was about 8 at the time).
Also, I still think this game did Quidditch the best (out of the main series entires - never played the world cup game) because of the free-flight - I hate how every other game locks you to following the Snitch, unlike here where you actually have to chase it down yourself.
I do wish there'd been some form of free exploration like you get in the later games, cause there's no real sense of progression when every area has to be designed for the spells you have when you reach them - the closest it gets is the Venomous Tentacula being something you can only avoid on the way to Herbology before learning Incendio.

I remember the baslik use to do some kinda yoga dance to dodge the attacks just to annoys us even more 😂. i always did think it was wierd that every port of the game was different but i kind of like that in a way? it's a different experience for everyone, but the PS1 and PC ports at least have similar dialogues and stuff, which made my experience watching someone play the PS1 version strange because some of the lines were the same but different in context 😂 like the troll chase. In the PS1 version that's after the sneaking down the forbidden corridor bit, and Hermione is IN the bathroom and fine when you reach her, but the PC version where Ron SAYS she's locked in the bathroom but you get chased by the troll, run to the bathroom, lock it in, and then you realise you've locked Hermione in 😂

One thing I like about this game is that, by not having the proper open world hub, they nailed the idea of ever changing Hogwarts. Like Dumbledore said at the beginning: there are secrets that can be reached at certain point of the game, because later they won't be accessible but also changed into something else.
Nowadays, in more polished game, it would be done using PC's internal clock and, if the game is connected to the Internet, time limited events... Actually, Hogwarts Legacy could do just that.

I still remember being in PC World with my mum when I was very young, buying my first ever PC “because it was blue” and getting this game with it.
I spent a lot of time in the later years playing with the engine cheats finding secret areas and messing with the world. “harrydebugmodeon” or “harrysuperjump” I can still remember.

I always loved the first three Harry Potter games for PC.. I play them to this day at least 2 times a year.
I like that those three games get a bit more attention lately.. I also still hope for remakes :(
What I must admit: I'm from Austria, so I played the games in german language.. I did lately also try them in english and tbh.. The Voices just don't fit for some characters.. The german voices are so much better and fit very well.. Best example in this game for me is Filch for some reason.
Anyway.. Nice video, hope you'll do even more about Harry Potter.

Great review Phil! Believe it or not this is my favourite Harry Potter game next to Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets for the PS1! I think it’s mainly for it’s nostalgia this was the first Harry Potter game I ever played including the first three for the PC and including chamber of secrets for the PS1! Hey this game isn’t perfect it does have glitches and flaws with its gameplay but the graphics for the Hogwarts design and the imagination and the colours and the designs is magnificent and mind blowing especially the masterful soundtrack/music and for it’s first game it does incredibly well it’s a lot of fun! Far from perfect would I say it’s one of the best? Yes and no but it’s a childhood game of mind that I hold dearly to my heart!

when i was a a kid i always thought there is some secret locactio from where fred and georde come, and you can access it if you try hard enough somehow, and i alwas though theres like a huge secret net of shortcuts, pathways to secret hogwarts locations etc, which is hilarious consdering the small scale of a game.

Yesterday I started playing this one for the first time in years, after playing CoS recently.
    1. While in CoS WASD + mouse controls work perfectly, here are a nightmare. I need to use old method of arrow keys + Ctrl and Alt. Good thing this one doesn't require that much of a quick reacting.
    2. If I could made reboot of this came, I would just merge most of the levels together into one big map, which part you are gradualy unlocking and can come back later. Like, imagine coming back to Sprout's garden after learning Incedio and being able to finally beat local tentaculas. Or being able to practice flying again in-game and beating your recordand gain more points

For those three, windows 10 no longer supports the CD key checking feature, so the game never runs as it can't get past that. What you need is an exe file that bypasses the cd checking feature. Check in the description, I posted a link to a website that helps with the first two games, or alternatively go to oldgamesdownload as they have what you need.

The Filch stealth quest was my most favorite part of the game. Sad that you can collect only up to just under 700 beans through the course of the game (without the use of cheats and buying any wizard cards). After the mentioned quest is done, there're no more beans for the rest of the game 😔

a chest in the forbidden corridor
and another chest in that part where you have to jump on platforms to reach quirrel?
I think they still have a few beans in it
(Before that room where you have to flipendo some blocks)
