I'm so glad you still post videos. So many orchid growers have abandoned their channels. Always grateful for your knowledge and experience!
Thanks so much ❤️
So glad your posting ~ love your channel
I’ve learned so much from watching you ~ you look amazing
Thank you ❤️
Nice recommendations
I am new to growing orchids. I love your channel. Learning a lot.
I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos :)))) This makes me happy
Always love your orchids give us lots of information like me just started growing orchids love watching your videos
I'm glad you like them. Thanks for watching ❣️
I love most are those compact orchids, they're space saver yet they're also incredibly beautiful❤️watching you here from Philippines🇵🇭
Thank you so much for watching ❤️
My wife would bring home Phalaenopsis orchids that they would throw out after the blooms die from her office. I would revive them and give them away now I have Cattalya Madness and 60 under led lights all started over 2 years ago my wife thinks in losing my mind
It always starts with a phal and before you know it, it's cattleyas, then something harder or more exotic. They reward us, and sometimes die so it's almost like a gamble right? When you see a bud or spike you get a dopamine hit 🤣 We have issues 😂
She'll start losing her mind once the blooms start coming in haha. People have no concept of why you are growing something for flowers until they see what it was all for.
An irresistible list! I brought home the Dendrobium Hamana Lake “Prism” from a visit to Florida last week (a dangerous state for orchid enthusiasts!). 😓 Compact Dendrobiums are so special!
Florida is indeed dangerous!! I looked up your Dendrobium, she's cute!! Any fragrance?
@@NicoleDeanna Yes, I believe so! I’ve yet to see blooms but I’m excited, lots of buds on this plant🤞
Where in Florida have you shopped for orchids? Thanks…I am just south of Ocala
Enjoyed watching . My favorites are cattleyas 🌼🌸🌺
Same here 😊
I just bought Miltoniopsis Edie Brown NYC, the flowers smell so good in the morning. I love it, I hope I can grow it.
You got this. Keep it hydrated and if you can during summer, try to not let it get very long periods of intense heat.
Just now seeing this. Love love love as I’m running out of room. First orchids after Phals: Oncidiums, which are easier than Phals for me, first complex, then summer, then Cattleyas, which I’m still working out for my growing space, next will be a compact Dendrobium kingianum. As always, love your vids! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! I think you'll enjoy the kingianum and it's so exciting you're expanding your collection to other types, you'll love the fragrance on the cattleyas :))
I recently got into orchids, and like you said have become rather obsessed with phals and Dendrobiums haha! I love my Phalaenopsis Mini Mark! It's very little right now, and seems to grow much slower than some other phals but should give a lovely show in a few years 🎉
It's so addictive! Happy growing ❤️❤️❤️
hey slim! looking good!❤
I'm with you. I started with phals and must have killed three. Then I switched to cattleyas; I find them much more rewarding. Not that phals aren't nice, but I really want an orchid to be fragrant. Could you do a video on fragrance? I like the more citrusy scents; some floral scents are too heavy. Your favorite fragrant orchids and a characterization of their scents would be interesting.
A video on fragrance is a good idea. I'm gonna give it some thought and see what I can put together here. I have a strong memory of some of my orchids being rosey or lemony and some I forget or don't know how to describe, but I can have fun with this, thanks for the idea!
@@NicoleDeanna when you do, can you mention any special care and time of year they bloom for you. I am learning a lot.
My favorite small orchids that I find easy to grow are Tolumia hybrids, Neofinetia and Oncidium twinkle. Also Renanthera Monachica blooms early on and stays small for a long time 😊
Those are nice ones! Thanks for sharing! :)
Beautiful orchids. Love the Neofinetias the most. The bean leaf give me the most trouble. Physon 20 is their new best friend. Put the Ascofinetia under a small grow light and it is taking off. Happy growing and hope your Neofinetias bloom.
Neofinetias are so lovely! Hope they all bloom this spring :))
Hi Nicole. I’ve been collecting the small to mini orchids because they don’t take up much space. I just got recently Cattleya Liliputana. She’s pretty tiny and adorable 🥰. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.🥰❤️🦋
I looked her up, she's beautiful! Appreciate you watching Shirley ❤️
Got a Vanda falcata that smells like Jasmin and a Oncidium twinkle that smells like Vanilla. They both started out small. In the beginning Vanda falcata was a mystery. I was having a hard time to understand it, but now it has grown huge. As for Oncidium twinkle, it was pretty easy, just need to keep up with the watering.
Those are nice ones!
I have a Twinkle. It kept trying to die, until I put it in a self-watering pot with a wick in a medium that is heavy on sphagnum. It is thriving.
Could you do an update on your grow room and the current collection?
Yes, I'll do an update this spring. I need to upgrade my camera, the lights give it a funky annoying shadow when I record in the room. Ty for watching!
@@NicoleDeanna Wonderful, I will look forward to the update! Thank you!
I'd add tolumnias and Twinkle oncidiums to the list. Winter bloomers for me in Chicago.
Those are nice additions! Tolumnias can be a little tricky at first, but they are very cute and stay nice and small
@@NicoleDeanna I am curious about the tolumias. Could you feature info on them in a future video. Could you also do a list of orchids that bloom more than once per year, please.
@@SS11660 unfortunately, I don't have any tolumnias that are still alive so I'm not the best for them. I'll need to try again. Check out my most recent video on my favorite orchids and I talk about vigorous orchids that bloom several times a year. Also check out my favorite compact orchids, where I talk about Richard Mueller hybrids that bloom often
@@NicoleDeanna thank you. I will check it out. Exactly what I am looking for.
Zygonisia hybrids might be another to consider. They seem to be more compact than zygos yet still can have that amazing strong fragrance and bloom for a decent length and frequently twice a year. And are not expensive.
Just to make clear for the Den Angel Baby Little Darling, are you saying it does not need a cool winter rest to bloom? I found it for sale at normans orchids and it lists it as a warmth tolerant nobile mini orchid. There seems to be so much conflicting Den rest info for Den orchids. Rest, no rest, cool, no cool just dry. I thought nobile types need cool and dry but for all I know dry and reduced day length can trigger blooming too. Plants so are adaptable.
Will need to try them out!
For the den angel Baby little darling it doesn't need a dry period to bloom, I'm not sure why but I went by Normans orchids care directions when I googled it, and it bloomed just fine. I haven't tried to make sense of it all, but lately I notice I get blooms as long as I don't fertilize during rest, the cold temps may not be needed 😂 it's so so confusing.
I would like to know where you buy your Blc pauwela spots.
I got it from Sunset Valley Orchids :)
If you can't find that one in particular, there are many Richard Mueller hybrids that will look similar that have other compact parents.
@@NicoleDeanna Thank you very much for the information. ☀️
I’m saving this video to review before I start serious shopping online! I especially love brassavolas and paphs now that I’ve learned enough to keep them alive and get them to bloom. I have some spider farmer lights and Barrina lights (on a different shelf).but limited room so smaller orchids are best. There are absolutely no orchids sold within 2 hours of me so I’ll be shopping online. Do you have any favorites online growers?
I love Sunset Valley Orchids, Hauserman Orchids and Carmela Orchids. Most of my collection is from these three nurseries ❤️
Thanks so much! This really helps!
It looks like your dendrobium angel baby is in semi hydro? My latouria types are doing well in it, but I have another miniature variety (cherry dance) that grew like crazy and keiked herself but would not bloom. I just changed her and the new keiki over to organic media yesterday. Hoping that coming close to dry before watering does the trick. 🙏
It is in semi sydro! I hope your Cherry Dance blooms!
I’ve been searching for a Bellina for months 😢
I got mine from Hausermann orchids. I hope you find one ❤️
I don't know what it is, but I can't keep a brassavola nodosa alive.
Try the Brassavola Little Stars then, it's a primary hybrid of the Nodosa so more forgiving. Also try to keep the media as airy as possible for the roots and give it plenty of bright light. Good luck!
I became smitten with slipper orchids. For some reason I haven’t had luck getting my Brassavola to bloom. 😢
Some folks say it's good to let the brassavolas harden off in the winter by letting it go 2 weeks without water. If you're lighting is good, I'd give that a go. Let me know if it works out!
Hello! Do you have your brasavola growing in leca with a reservoir?
Mine is strugling in bark 🥲
Hi! Mine is actually in bark and perlite. I hope yours pulls through.
