Painting without a booth is best to do in the morning as the bugs and wind are usually minimal.

This has been a very interesting series Gunny, the basecoat looked like it went on well and is very clean. I'm looking forward to your review on the compressor as I'm a Fred in a Shed DIY painter so I'm always looking for a better and quieter compressor, I've had mine nearly 3 years and again it let me down last week so I had to replace both head gaskets and all the fittings on the head as they keep leaking.

You ever sprayed boats mate? Like Gell coat and Xylene Epoxy Paints. It's hard man has loads of hazards and gets solvent entrapment etc if you don't get the thickness perfect.

Gun I bought the same pro lite. The 110 was slow compared to the t20 when I painted my dads ford ranger. Take care my friend

That PPG Deltron is not cheap. A gallon of Superwhite for my truck is 800 us. I just picked up a Prolite as my other one was a fake ebay one. This one is the real deal like the one you have.
I wonder if putting up one of those ultra violet bug zappers to help control a 'crash' landing?
They attract insects so no. I'm in Scotland I do boats now, if I'm doing homer spray jobs mid summer on cars/motorbikes/boats what I do is spray diluted deet spray about (sold here as midgey repellent in Army surplus stores) with a water spray bottle. Turn my extractor on for 10mins, push the project back in my garage then paint. If the midgeys are really bad what I do is wet out the garage floor slightly with a deet & water mix but I watch my humidity meter like a hawk till it flashes off and stabilises then I'm good to shoot paint. Just for comparison if I never used deet in the method I just told you then even maybe a Bonnet/hood sized project I would have maybe 15-25 insects in each coat. If I'm using my airflow and inlet fans I need to use a massive oversized Rhino "green growers" scrubber can to stop pollen and midgeys getting spat at the project at 100+mph

@@gordonclark7632 yeah mate that's why it's good to ask 👍 lots of people don't ask they claim their way is the best because they done it once as a DIY job. If someone knows the answer due to doing it as a job or whatever, then they won't chip in unless someone asks. See another natural way to keep insects off your freshly laid paint is just pick a day where there is a breeze and do it at a time you know the insects aren't as active. BTW I seen a big Scottish Bee land on my freshly done clear then fly off, it never even left a mark.. I spent about a half hour looking for the marks and there was none🤷♂️ no idea wtf that is all about as it was huge.

I have to respray my Ford Fiesta, i don't know why if i spray clear over solvent base i can see pigtails but, if i spray clear over well cured clear, it's perfect. Can someone help me?

Tack rags are overrated anyway. Last month I did 9 panels for a competing workshop where the the local (territorial) painter had hid all the tack rags claiming they had run out 🤓 I was forced to use my left hand and compressed air 🤬 After a nice little 5 minute blowing and swiping with bare hands I ended up with virtually spotless results, with mist+ 1 immediate wet coat of uhs clear mind you. With 9 panels in a single booth cycle I rarely achieve this even with a brand new tack rag 😎
Hey gunny, what gloves do you use? Most the retail disposable gloves seem to disintegrate in thinners.

How did the extraction fan work, did it clear the overspray well
The real test is when he sprays clear coat. When I spray base it is not as bad as clear coat
What hp compressor do you use as I’ve been told I need a 6hp which is huge and very expensive could I get away with a 3hp

Does wetting the floor help in preventing dust on paint?
Yes it does but can cause high humidity.
What are you spraying before wiping it down with the tack rag?
It's just a wax and grease remover. You can also use alcohol or methylated spirits or anything that dries without leaving a residue
