I was trying this same race last weekend, actually. Yes, it's totally doable with the right car and setup, it's a shame most MR cars don't really like Trial Mountain and are rather unstable though. I used a S15 Nissan Silvia and it did rather well, another car which is pretty good (but I didn't manage to win due to a mistake) is the Honda S2000. Even if turbo cars seem to cope better with the different uphill sections, must be that extra torque they have.
Yeah, for MR's I think it depends on the frame rate, and the front camber and LSD settings. When I used the Beat on Trial Mountain a while back, I had to max out the LSD Initial and Accel along with applying 5.5 front camber, and the car still felt a bit on-edge. Which MR's did you try out? I can give one of them a shot and see how to get it stable enough. S2000 is great here yeah, accelerates out of corners really smoothly. I feel like knowing your car's power band and setting up the gears so it's always at the right RPM's helps a lot for those peaky high-RPM NA-tuned cars. After uploading, I found a video on RUclips of someone beating the Vector LM with a 250hp Spoon Civic. I tested it out for myself and it was about half a second faster per lap than this Impreza, despite it having little-to-no downforce. Ride height and gear setup, along with its extremely light weight, really help it go along.
@@TeaKanji I tried the Elise 190, which was the worse out of the bunch. However, the Lancia Stratos and ZZ-S were promising, they are fast. But they were rather unstable at the first section, which happens to be one of the few places where you can gain on the M12. They didn't like kerbs/bumps around that area, so I went with FR cars instead. I did see that video, there's also a video of someone using the RX-7 83' with a strong pace. Oh, yeah. I did try with a turbo Civic, but I didn't like it much. The car is pretty quick, though.
Ah, hehe, fair enough, I understand now why you were having trouble. All of the Elise's are really twitchy and unstable in this game; I feel like they parallel the Griffith's in GT1. Basically have to tune it GT1-style so it maintains stability in that opening section. High front camber and soft rear springs are key. Here's what I put together for the Elise 190, if you want a starting point to work off: springs: 4.5 / 2.5 ride height: 89 / 135 dampers (B + R): 1 / 5 camber: 6.0 / 1.5 toe: -0.20 / 0.20 stabilisers: 3 / 4 brakes: 18 / 12 gears: final gear to 5.500, then auto setup to 1, then final gear to 3.600, then set individual gears to 2.650, 2.080, 1.640, 1.288, 1.034 downforce: 0.47 / 0.76 (30 FPS) or 0.47 / 0.66 (60 FPS) LSD: 20, 5, 20 (30 FPS) or 12, 1, 12 (60 FPS) The car still isn't perfect, but I think pushing the LSD, front springs or front camber any further will just make the car understeer too much. It's really tricky to find the right balance because of how much skill it takes to drive this car. You have to be extremely decisive with your braking and turning, as the car will go haywire if you try to correct mid-corner.
@@TeaKanji Funny you say that, I loved the Griffith back then despite how difficult it was to drive. Then again, I'm far from the best driver, I'll give this setup a try once I got some time!
Hehe, I needed something that was at least 45 minutes long to put in the background, and the E-Radio loop immediately came to mind. One of my favourite childhood games. Thank you!
Damn, i remember this race, but back then, i was playing trough whole game with a friend, we had no idea its a glitch. We tought it meant to be like that, to test your skills. We beated it on 3rd try, used chevy corvette, super grip setup.
Hehe, yeah, as unintentional as it was, it's indeed a fantastic test of skills and probably one of my favourite races in the series because of it. That's impressive that you managed to beat it back in the day; usually to stand a chance you either need an overpowered car (eg. Concept Car) or a suspension setup that uses the ride height trick for the acceleration boost. Maybe I underestimated the classic Corvettes.
For the NTSC 1.1 sections at the start, I was using Silent's imperial-to-metric conversion codes, but it wouldn't work properly when I converted it for 1.0 so it's disabled during the actual race.
Sounds like you're playing on NTSC 1.1 or 1.2, the Vector LM was removed from this endurance in those versions. If you can track down a 1.0 version of the game, you should be able to use your original save file and race against the Vector LM.
Ah, I saw this video actually as I was doing research on what cars people used to win. You did well to hold off the Vector with the Mini Mark I for 13 laps, regardless of tactics ;)
@@TeaKanji needless to say i either too lazy or too stupid to make adjustments on cars, and i didn't know that tyre compounds doesn't affect tyre wear back then 😂 so i slap Racing super hard on it
Absolutely yeah, it's already been done by other people using the Civic Si '93, FTO GP Version R and Spoon Civic Type R. I expect the Primera's, Eclipse, 306 S16, Fiat Coupe and Astra to also be able to win with proper tuning.

@@vaginilator4987 Ah, very nicely done. There's a video of the Spoon Civic Type R beating it, but it's just one section of the replay I think. Someone had made a playlist compiling all victories over the M12 LM, you should be able to find it there.

I did it with Spoon Civic and Tom's T111 but 4wd Evos and Imprezzas are faster and easier to drive consistently
