Tbh these kind of "normal" cars are missing in modern racing games. Imagine Forza Horizon with a lineup of normal cars alongside all the generic hypercars? The car variety would be immense.

Ps2 spoke louder right. Gran Turismo 6 has over 1200 Cars (and literally all of the GT4 included together). So the GT6 has the Best Car Line Up. But as the boring Rule of the People says, it's only worth it if it's Ps2. It cannot be Ps3 and Ps4 the winners.

That is, 434 distinct individual cars that are not just re-skins of the same car, or the same car with a slight difference (1.5-litre instead of 1.3-litre)". So GT6 does have 1200 cars, but lot of these cars are reskins on the same model. RX-5 have 35 cars, RX-7 34 cars, not to mention the Nissan GT-R.

My favorite thing is how it has different trim levels of the same car, like sl55, sl600 etc. The used car market always felt so real bc of that. Still one of my all favorite games to come back to and play years later
Forza horizon 5 didn’t even come close
The thing I love about GT games is that they also let you drive a bunch of normal everyday cars, and not just supercars. They also have a huge list of not so famous or even unkown JDM cars. Like what other game lets you drive an Alto works, or a Yaris, or a Wagon R?
The soundtrack is permanently baked into my brain......
What amazes me is, some of the concepts cars we see in 2004, turn in reality years later, like Audi Q7, R8 (who looks completly finished on the 04 concept), A5. Or most incredible, the concept from 2003 Honda "HSC", have similar lines to the NSX they launch in 2015 (12 years).
The Pontiac Solstice concept also became a real car
I was thinking about this yesterday while playing gran turismo 7 and driving the new NSX, and how Acura back in the days in granturismo used to have a cool futuristic looking Acura.

it really makes you appreciate the time, effort, and coordination required to model each and every single one of these cars so accurately, especially before 3d modeling became as easy as it is today. And then not only to make sure the cars were optimized enough for the hardware at the time, but to also make them behave and feel how they should. Not to mention they also had to make an entire fully fledged game on top of all that.

Man I really wish that the later GT games had more of these grocery getters like this game did. Racing a Citroën Xsara or Mercedes-Benz A160 is just as fun as, if not more fun, than racing a touring car or a Le Mans car.

@@themostwanted5531 They didn't feel like showroom/museum any longer, which was the biggest identity Gran Turismo had made throughout the history. Although, Gran Turismo 6 still acceptable at least for me.

Ciao Edward, dunque purtroppo per sbloccare le auto su Gran Turismo 4 é necessario per forza di cose giocare alla modalità Gran Turismo Mode. Con la mod. Arcade non si può in alcun modo sbloccare i veicoli :(
Gt4 sempre stupendo. L'unico GT che ho mai giocato. Da quello che ho visto GT sport non supera la magnificenza del quarto. Dal trailer per il 7 sembra che stiano tornando alle origini e a GT4. Spero che riportino la colonna sonora di GT4, le soundtrack jazzistiche sono veramente il paradiso per le orecchie.

Gt4 é il GOAT dei giochi di macchine, ora che si puó giocare con le texture aggiornate su PC in 4k non ha nulla da invidiare ad altri giochi ahaha
Gran Turismo 4 ha in assoluto la carriera più bella di tutte, però mi duole dirlo ma nessuno ancora oggi è mai riuscito a battere il roaster d'auto di Gran Turismo 2
@@SoundOfNika il problema con un gioco del genere è otrimizzare risorse tra grafica, fisica e infine modelli e memoria e soprattutto licenze. Se gran turismo avesse auto inventate potrebbe avere un parco auto infinito, ma quando devi pagare licenze (tutte le auto presenti sono licenze che Polyphony paga alle case costruttrici) il budget è limitato purtroppo...
@@mrsaxophone4765 Ma sì non do colpe ai giochi in sé, è che il parco d'auto di GT2 ha così tanti capolavori storici che è impossibile eguagliarlo, almeno per me. GT4 ci è andato piuttosto vicino ma dalla sua ha anche la carriera più bella di tutte, per questo è tutt'ora il capitolo preferito di tantissimi fan della saga (me compreso)

Excellent variety of vehicles, like always. I love how in arcade mode, whenever you collect a car for your garage, it immediately becomes available in arcade mode so you can race it without any career mode restrictions, I wish all the racing games back then and today did this concept thoroughly.

0:40 Lotus. The reason the Carlton doesnt look anything like the other Lotus cars is because its a Vauxhall modified by Lotus. Having its engine and weight reworked to the point where it became so beloved with hit and run criminals in the UK because the polices MG Metros where way outclassed. The british gouvernment even tryed to ban the car.
0:45 Jaguar Jeremy Clarkson once said: "The sort of person who would go away for a weekend, with his wife in a hotel, somewhere, romantic place and spent the entire night flirting outragously with a waitress and its okay cuz hes got a JAAAAAG"
1:05 Mini as seen here are actually the semi sucessfull reboot after BMW bought the rights to produce them. They are retro styled "compact" cars nowerdays. The Austin Mini was actually kind of an experiment on "whats the smallest car 4 adults could semi comfortably sit in" it was a smash hit in rally sports beeting the competitin simply by being a light FWD box. Dare I say its the poineer of the modern compact car.
1:17 Aston Martin got thier grill design stolen by Ford in the time that Ford owned them. Im not making this up, go ahead and compare modern Ford grills and the classic AM grill.
1:28 Bentley actually have thier roots in motorsports. Even back in the early days of the car they had the strategy of just throwing a really big f-off engine into a heavy chassie and calling it race car. Aka Bentley 8-litre
1:33 Landrover where once known for all aluminium bodys. Thiey are known nowerdays for horrendous reliabilty.
1:48 Opel/Vauxhalls Astra Super Touring car has nothing in common with the road going Opel/Vauxhall Astra G. Not even engine or drive type. The normal Astra of that time had Inline 4s and where FWD the touring car had some GM V8 and was RWD. Also Vauxhall and Opel are almost the same. (Thanks GM for inventing more makes then gen-z invents genders.)
2:15 The Speed 12 was initially planned to compete at LeMans, but couldnt compete due to rule changes. Its the british interpretation of a widowmaker like the Viper. Well TVR in general was good at making widowmakers.
2:20 Triumph is a motorcycle company that is famous for thier inline 3s. They also made a slow sports car back in the 70s and named it after a fighter plane.

3:03 Renaults are actually the pioneers of the modern tank layout. A turret that rotates and a hull underneath. Renault is also not afraid to spice things up now and then, with the current generation twingo being of MR layout as a modern every day compact car. As much as I like to clown on the french, thats lit.

9:32 Seats Cupra trim level has by now spun off into its own brand manufacturing rebaged and bumpered VWs in matte gray with copper rims aswell as a performance oriented tune.

This is brilliant. Although I know quite a few of these, some of it is new to me.
A few facts I'd like to point out though:
1) AC isn't a British version of Shelby, the Cobra was an American version of an AC (which released cars like the AC Ace, and AC Aceca before the AC/Shelby Cobra was released). If I'm not mistaken, The story is that Carol Shelby saw an AC race car, and he fell in love with the design. He called them and asked if they could build a body to fit a Shelby V8, thus the Shelby Cobra was born.
2) BMW started out as an airplane engine manufacturer, but a lesser known fact is that their first car (1928 Dixi) was made a few years after their first bike (1923 R 32). So yes, BMW was actually a bike manufacturer before they became a car manufacturer. Also, the logo isn't actually a plane propeller, but it's a piece of the Bavarian flag that had to be altered due to the laws against using flags as logos.
3) Auto Union was the merger between the manufacturers. The four rings of Auto Union's logo were to represent the DKW, Horch, Wanderer and Audi (which had a different logo). After struggling through WW2, they were eventually bought by Volkswagen, who dropped the "Auto Union" name and rebranded the company as "Audi" (this time, with Auto Union's logo). Until a few months ago, I believed Auto Union joined forces with the others to form Audi, but it was actually Audi that joined forces to form Auto Union (which finally made the name make sense).
4) Really interesting fact here, Alfa Romeo's red comes from the early days of racing, where each manufacturer was given a colour based on their country of origin. The colours were red (Italy), blue (France), pale green (UK), white/silver (Germany), white and red (Japan), white with blue stripes, or blue with white stripes (US). A lot of historic manufacturers like Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, MV Agusta, Ducati, Alpine, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Lotus, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Honda, Ford and many more still use these colours for their bikes and cars. It's even more heavily used in racing vehicles.
5) Although Cizeta is not well known, the Cizeta-Moroder actually had 2 big names in it. The car was designed by Marcelo Gandini, the guy who designed the Lancia Stratos, Renault 5 Turbo, Bugatti EB110, Alfa Romeo Montreal, and a long stint at Lamborghini where he designed numerous models including the Countach, Miura, and Diablo.
The other big name is the namesake of the car itself, Giorgio Moroder. He is an accomplished, award winning producer that made some of the 80s biggest hits, including Berlin's "Take my breath away", Irene Cara's "Flashdance", Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff", and most notably the entire soundtrack for Scarface.
gt4 was the game with the best graphics in PS2...still playable in 2022
I would argue the best graphics of the generation.
Thats why i wouldnt understand the dumb criticism to the PS2 about being so weak, blurry and therefore the games looking bad or some teorical games veing impossible in this platform. With a good team and enough optimization its all possible.

When i was a kid,i got a used PS2,and it came with this game,sadly i didnt play it,and 2 days later my younger brother scratched the DVD,and i never got to play it,honestly,as a racing fan,having 700+ cars in a PS2 game would be my dream,today i prefer playing forza Horizon,but Gran Turismo 4 seems a great game,maybe i get to play it someday
If you have a decent PC you can use PCSX2 to play GT4.

This is the definition of a racing paradise. Every kind of car you can think of is here, including the “original Vision GT” car never-to-exist-the Nike 2022. Best racer ever, period.
I'm disappointed by the number of cars in Gran Turismo 7. I wish if GT7 could just bring so many quality contents in terms of race, city, rally tracks, cars, etc.
Yes, Gran Turismo 4 was indeed a fun and great game but i wanted to move up from 4 to 5 and 6 via PS3 real hardware or emulation *if they speed up the process*
1- Cars in the newer games requires more time to create and let’s not forget the Cockpit, where back in GT4 it wasn’t necessary all the time to make.
2- With online multiplayer and bugs coming with each update, it’s a priority for them to keep the game running well as it should.
3- Partnership with FiA. They don’t care about the nostalgia and the variety of Cars in the game. They wanna make money through professional events with the game. Which it doesn’t give a lot of liberty for PD to do whatever they want.
It's the same thing when Gran Turismo advances from one generation to another generation, at the time Gran Turismo 3 came out, people were disappointed by the lack of cars compared to its predecessor, but it's a new console, new game engine, and More beautiful graphics, but sometimes the lack of content didn't keep people from enjoying the game to its fullest, gt4 is a lot like 3, but with more cars and even more refined handling, what separates it is their production values, and I think 3 had an awesome presentation and soundtrack.
