I really dug the Spinal tap joke haha. Im really interested to see how the new Testament and Hatebreed will sound. My faves already are Overkill, Cannibal Corpse, Kreator, and Rush

If I did a top 10 right now, it might look something like this (yes, I have actually heard all of these): 10) Sutekh Hexen - Larvae 9) Borknagar - Urd 8) Ihsahn - Eremita 7) Horseback - Half Blood 6) Panopticon - Kentucky 5) Hail Spirit Noir - Pneuma 4) Pinkish Black - Pinkish Black 3) Locrian/Mammifer - Bless Them Who Curse You 2) Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I 1) Anathema - Weather Systems

Although I'm largely sticking to progressive metal, there are several releases I quite enjoyed from this year so far: All Too Human - Juggernaut Anathema - Weather Systems Colobar - Behind the Veil of Oblivion Teramaze - AnhedoniA Tetrafusion - Horizons Hemina - Synthetic also counts somewhat on a 2012 list, as it's been released worldwide only then. A little disappointed with Circus Maximus - Nine right now. Colobar's label is seeking promotion, and I'm happy to land you a deal! :)
Best of 2012 so far; 1) Lamb of God - Resolution 2) Overkill - The Electric Age 3) Kreator - Phantom Antichrist 4) Cannibal Corpse - Torture 5) Shadows Fall - Fire From The Sky Really anticipating Testamen - The Dark Roots of Earth
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Pinata T.R.A.M. - Lingua Franca Akphaezya - Anthology IV: The Tragedy of Nerak Spawn of Possession - Incurso Trepalium - H.N.P. Miroist - The Pledge (EP) Be'lakor - Of Breath and Bone Hour Of Penance - Sedition
By the way, I just heard Storm Corrosion, and fuck it, my list has to be updated now: 05. Hour Of Penance - Sedition 04. Storm Corrosion - Storm Corrosion 03. Marduk - Serpent Sermon 02. Paradise Lost - Tragic Idol 01. Ahab - The Giant
A nice eclectic selection; pleasantly surprised to find some death metal and thrash in there amongst progressive/doom/mood selections. I would have a different list, of course, and Nile's At The Gates of Sethu would be on it. The musicianship alone would make it a qualifier, let alone the concept (not only of the band, which remarkably they've been able to maintain for over two decades, but the album itself). There is a speed, brutality, compositional ability that puts them miles ahead. Bliss!
this year has been amazing for metal all around, especially for my 2 favorite subgenres: death and thrash. if i had to choose a top 5 (yes this is solely based on my taste in subgenres) 5. Nile - At The Gate Of Sethu (yeah ik Nile is a love-it-or-hate-it band in the metal community but fuck you guys i love it) 4. Overkill - The Electric Age 3. Cannibal Corpse - Torture 2. Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme 1. Kreator - Phantom Antichrist i wouldnt be surprised if Testament gets in there later though
Best of the year so far for me = Cattle Decapitation - Monolith of Inhumanity, absolute stonking release. 2012 has been a great year so far after what I would call a disappointing 2011. Other Stormers - LOG - Resolution, Napalm Death - Utilitarian, Six Feet Under - Undead, Job for a Cowboy - Demonocracy and Goatwhore - Blood for the Master, among others. Dying Fetus and Nile will certainly be in my top 10 come December.
The General Strike by Anti-Flag, Born Villain by Marilyn Manson, Rize of the Fenix by Tenacious D, Clockwork Angels by Rush, Blunderbuss by Jack White, Electric Sea by Buckethead, haven't heard any more :D
Hey coverkiller i highly recommend you check out the new angel witch record as above so below. it is such a great album angel witch sounded just as great now as they did in the 80s. I highly recommend you check out this album its fantastic.
i always check out what you got to say about new albums and love it. but the doom/black metal that u over score over the others eh. but thats just my personal opinion. keep doing what u do bro love the time u spend on this shit. keep it coming
Lamb of God managed one of their best albums ever and may in fact be my favorite. Definitely their heaviest. And Cannibal Corpse's Torture got me into Death Metal all together. I dunno, maybe I just like the big name brands in death metal.
Just because a song is silly and not meant to be taken seriously, it doesn't mean it has to suck. Listen to Devin Townsend. A lot of his songs are weird and silly, but they're still great songs with actual musicianship put into writing them.
1) Kreator's phantom antichrist, 2) Merrow's Retrospecial, 3) Allegaeon's Formshifter ... and a band that I love that is totally not heavy metal and hasn't been released is the darkness' hot cakes...
I am loving Ne Obliviscaris, they are from Melbourne, Australia, where I live. But c'mon CKN, you really should have waited for Gojira's new release before doing this vid.
check out primal rock rebellion, it has Adrian Smith from iron maiden, they released their debut a few months ago, its kinda like a modern version of Angel dust by Faith no more.
"I'm not talking about POP, I stuck strictly to metal"...something tells me he might of read my comment on the Justin Bieber video :P Sorry CKN, didn't mean no disrespect. Just my opinion. And yes you should be given a metal because you kick ass!!! Also, I don't really agree with Adrenaline Mob being THAT bad. It's not that good but it is still enjoyable :) Russell Allen's vocals are freaking amazing, that alone helps it. Russell Allen is probably the greatest vocalist alive today.
I didn't mean weird in silly in the same way Hevy Devy does it. It's like, you wouldn't review Schindler's List on the same level as the Smurfs . The point of them is entirely different. And also it's kinda a given CK is gonna hate Emmure, etc he's a proper metalhead kinda guy from what I can tell, of course he's not gonna like it it's almost pointless for him to even bring them up!
hey buddy whatever happened to lamb of god being on this list? whenever it first came out you was wired as hell and going crazy about how great it was..but now you don't even mention wtf? lol...also you forgot to mention the new three days grace album as well as stone sour..
I never understand why you review Attack Attack and Emmure, it's obviously not made for serious music fans, it's fun music not to be taken seriously, it's not for your standard metalhead.
some fantastic lists here! excited to see some video responses with your reasons!

01. Ahab - The Giant
First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar is one of my favorite.. It's a folk pop release though so I wouldn't expect too many people to like it.
A nice eclectic selection; pleasantly surprised to find some death metal and thrash in there amongst progressive/doom/mood selections.
I would have a different list, of course, and Nile's At The Gates of Sethu would be on it.

Wondering what you would think about Carach Angren's "Where the corpses sink forever"
living things was good too

Have you listened to the new Adamantine, Carach Angren or Hour of Penance?
Oh and i definitely recommend Baptized in Filth by Impending Doom
Which Burzum albums are worth checking out? Which ones are more atmospheric and ambient?

Anhedonia by Teramaze is a brilliant album. One of my favourites

"I'm not talking about POP, I stuck strictly to metal"...something tells me he might of read my comment on the Justin Bieber video :P Sorry CKN, didn't mean no disrespect. Just my opinion.
