- Today, I wanted to share a solution I found recently to clean up the look of the Can-Am Ryker's rusty wheel hubs. We take a look at an OEM part from Can-Am designed to cover the wheel hubs and ask the questions: why aren't they on every Ryker and what Ryker models ARE they on?

In my previous employment, I was the engineer that worked with BRP on these wheel hub bearings. They're actually just a pair of deep groove ball bearings as opposed to an all in one unit which are typical in cars. The surface corrosion was always a concern with these even in prototype, so I'm glad to see they actually made a cap for them as this was one of the solutions I proposed. Also just to add, my 2019 Ryker 900 didn't come with them.
Wow, that is pretty awesome. I'm sure some of that stuff is covered under an NDA, but if you can or would want to talk about certain stuff, might be an interesting interview/conversation for a video?

What's interesting is that the cap does not look like a retrofit. It readily locked into place with 2 tabs at the 180 degree mark, and those tabs clicked into place in hub holes that look like they serve no other purpose except to secure the caps that didn't come with your Ryker. Seems like a manufacturing goof up, as I 'm sure Can Am wasn't trying to save $4 per Ryker by omitting them. Customers should insist on a dealer bulletin, where dealers are instructed to inspect, clean, lube and mount missing caps for all bikes coming in for service.
Thanks for the video and info, just got mine today from our friends up north and installing them on my 2020 rally. When I first got it in April, my hubs rusted up and I talked to BRP customer service and engineering. They said they had not heard of this issue, thought the dealers should paint the hubs at assembly, and never mentioned these caps. So I did what you did, cleaned them up and painted them myself. Thanks again for the tip.
I cleaned off my rust with
Loctite Naval Jelly Rust Dissolver then protected it with WD40. Rust has not returned (completed 3 months ago.), but I still ordered it. :-) thanks for the find

Curious if any Ryker Rally 2020 came with these at all?
I have been applying wd-40 once a week to the inside and outside of the hubs since I got the ryker in January. No rust issues so far here in Northeast Florida. When I went to purchase a Ryker, many of the brand new models had the hub rust and they were on the showroom floor. I searched high and low for a rust free Ryker. Knowing about the rust issue before purchase definitely helped me stay in front of the problem.
Yeah down in Florida, it's hard to avoid the rust. Glad you got out ahead of it. Wish I had done the same.
@@3WK-ADV You can keep it nice once you clean them up by maintaining them frequently. A few mins of work once a week is better than hours of cleaning rust!
I saw that part several months back but since there was no picture I wasn't sure about it. So thank you for taking the mystery out of it. Will order today. I dont have a lot of rust but rust is also dependent on location. Thank you again😉
I have a 2021 Ryker and it did come with the inside hub covers.
Good to know, I live in the south and have a 2019 Ryker Rally. I don't have any rusting issues but I'll keep this in mind

Yeah, it's always been a sore spot for me, but I've had these caps on for more than a few weeks now and I no longer have to stare at them while I ride. Very pleased.
Just picked up a 2023 CanAm Ryker Sport. It came with the wheel hub bearing caps already installed.
My 2023 Ryker Sport had these installed, but I purchased the Sling Mods solid cover.
I have a 2019 Ralley purchased in January 2019. I have never heard of or seen these caps.
From what I'm seeing in the comments, seems like only the 900 and 600 have the wheel caps. Weird they would skip us Rally owners. Thanks for sharing!

Does this fit on the outside of the wheels? I purchased some that look like these for the insides of the front 2 wheels.
Like you and am sure like many others I had the same issue..The rust.. I've been cleaning off rust for years with "PB Blaster".the rust wipes right off and.leaves an oily residue which greatly reduces the rust from coming back..When my Ryker was delivered to me at the dealer I had noticed that my bike didn't have the caps while others had them.I inquired about them and they ordered me the caps which I got at no cost. As far as the "Holes" I used engine "freeze plugs" and inserted then one the hubs.
Nice good recommendation to Ryker buyers, push to get the dealer to include them. Such a low cost item, they most likely would as to not miss a sale, but good luck getting them for free after the sale.
What size did you got for the freeZe plugs?

Based on most of the recent comments, seems like they have started including these as standard. But it's always up to the dealer to make sure everything gets assembled correctly.
Would the rust still happen inside the hole?? The caps cover the rim of the hole but you would still have to clean it out inside since it is still open right??? I have look at video that people paint it with rust resistance black paint. Maybe the paint and caps combo would be a complete solution..
For the most part the inner wheel hub tube has stayed relatively rust free, only the outer most part closest to the rim had some rust build-up. After cleaning it up and putting a little lithium grease on, I've been going strong for more than a few weeks with very little rust coming back.
That being said, I'm sure adding a little paint into the mix would lower the maintenance required to keep the hubs nice and clean.

I have a 2019 900 rally purchased in Sydney Australia and have also never heard of or seen these caps but they are definitely now on my too get and too do list, just hope Adept have no probs mailing to Australia, thanks for sharing this top tip and thanks also for your other great vids.

I just got a 2022 CanAm Ryker 900 ACE and I had those hubs already installed. The omission of the hub maybe a dealership assembly issue.
Thanks again for the tip !!! They arrived yesterday and they look great. I used WD40 instead of lithium grease, but I’ll keep an eye on them. My bike is only 3 months old so my weren’t too rusty yet.

How long have you had your ryker before it started to rust ?
Man I had mine 3 months before the rust and never rode in rain
That will not stop the rusting; it will only hide it. The wheel hub should be upgraded to stainless steel under warranty.
Have you tried removing the caps and inspecting the previously rusted areas to ensure the rust issue isn't silently continuing underneath the caps? The only reason I ask is because these caps don't seem to be waterproofing the rusted areas underneath. Where there's water, there's bound to be rust.

Just got my 19 ace back from the dealer from the 12k service, brp had them paint the inner hubs. I’m gonna order these caps, it’s so unsightly
I covered mine with acf50 to stop the corrosion...away to buy the caps though...the UK dealers have them back in stock....my ryker rallye is 8months old and didn’t have these either

Hey my brother was installing some things on my ryker yesterday and noticed them already there. I got a 2021 ryker rally. Reason why he noticed them cause last year a buddy got a 2020ryker rally and he had to order them and mine just came with it

2022 Ryker (I have the 900 sport) comes with the caps. Do you still get the rust?
Adding the caps and treating it with some lithium grease from time to time has kept it in much better condition.

Personally, I ordered 2 of them, never noticed issues with the rear wheel hub.
My ryker a 2019 doesn't have the hub cover and I have the same problem with the dealership I got mine.

The caps themselves have been rock solid. Definitely recommend.
As far as rust, I checked back after about 3 weeks and it only has accumulated a small bit compared to normal, so I think the caps do really help. I plan to try some of the stuff suggested in the comments to dissolve the rust completely.

2019 Ryker rally here and no caps.. I did just call my local dealer and gave them the part # and they special ordered them for me. $9 after tax for the pair, so it saves me on shipping

3-Wheel Khalil I wouldnt say they are conpetent.. I didnt buy from them and I probably wouldn’t let them work on my ryker.. but I hope they can manage to order a part.. we will see.

Wd-40 makes one. There's one i use in the field thats a green can cv?. I can't remember all 3 enitials

It's not too heavy, definitely considerably lighter than a car rim and tire.

Not at all, if that's happening something might be wrong with your ABS system.
