  • Darren George runs the RUclips channel Gro Bonsai, where he restores and maintains bonsai trees. He shows us how he restores an overgrown bonsai tree. This includes removing unnecessary branches to create space in the design, using wire to reposition the branches for health and design purposes, cleaning the rotting deadwood, and trimming the tree to the desired shape.

    I suppose the "before" and "after" appearance of the tree is a matter of taste. I'm not sure which I like more. Actually, I don't really see a big difference. They both looked "messy" to me.

      @aoibhealfae Год назад +13

      The tree in "After" still need to grow further to regain its shape. It's treated and healing. Much like the day you get out of hospital.

      This video only shows the initial steps taken to restore the tree, it will be many years before it is anywhere near “finished”

      It's a really long process. It's not fully recovered yet.

    That bonsai tree looks like it’s really taken care of. The leaves are groomed to their utmost capacity.

    After watching this, I am sure that those Bonsais are not happy plants.
    It is not allowed to grow, confined in a mini container and just looks sad to me. Any natural growth or change is removed. Strange world

      I agree. It's kinda like the "foot binding" they used to do to Chinese women.

      That's the secret, over stressed plant. He didn't show it, but with the bigger shear he probably had cut about 2 third of the roots
      At 49 seconds

      It’s a plant. It’s a complex machine . Nothing more

    • @Ass_of_Amalek
      @Ass_of_Amalek Год назад +3

      yes, it is in effect a tortured plant. however plants have no nervous system to produce complex sentience, though plants have been shown to respond to stress (like producing chemicals to repell insects, or gaseous chemicals that effectively warn other plants of the species of a threat worth reaponding to, such as speeding up ripening of fruit). also plants naturally grow in very often non-ideal environments. just look at all the stuff growing out of cracks in pavement and concrete. that's roughly equivalent to the growing conditions of bonsai trees.

    Don't use the fertilizer! I killed two 10 year old trees by accident. And I actually felt a bit bad.

    • @TheMightyYak
      @TheMightyYak Год назад

      You have to fertilise bonsai, they are kept in small pots - usually in an inorganic soil which has almost no nutrients.
