Creating an 'Instant' Bonsai Tree

- In a world that demands an ever-increasing level of instant gratification, bonsai seem to provide an antidote. Time and the seasons can't be sped up, and so patience is learned.
An 'instant' bonsai seems to be somewhat of an oxymoron, but bonsai from untrained material can be created in a very short space of time. As rewarding as it is to invest years into a tree, there is still an undeniable satisfaction gleaned from an occasional faster transformation, but that is always just the beginning of the journey!
I’m truly grateful for the response to the videos I’ve uploaded so far, and I’m working as fast as I can to keep producing them. Thank you for the patience and support. I am of course limited by nature and the seasons (and a bit of perfectionism too) but rest assured there are plenty more on the way. If you'd like to help out please consider supporting my Patreon:

Question. In your opinion how much can you safely remove when doing this?
Also what book are you referencing
The upload rate of videos of your channel embodies the spirit of Bonsai. With a lot of patience you get the highest quality in the end.
Best comment of the century
Right? and have you noticed how they always drop when you need them the most
Quality over quantity
This man is authentic through and through.
That... Is so true.
This guy literally came out of nowhere and is delivering high quality, relaxing videos every time
i am thinking the same ...his video is so relaxing.
I wish he made more though. I like watching them at work 👀
@@EE_E38 completely agree. Not that he needs one a week but more would be great!
exactly
relaxing for you but super stressful for this tree, all these stages should be spread over several work sessions, stop believing that the trees are at your disposal.
This channel is so different than anything else on RUclips, please never change
The quality of his content is very inspiring. Even for my channel
This comment
@@BonsaiSociety Oh my, Mr. Easterbrook, that is quite the compliment coming from u sir.
I have just begun my voyage into Bonsai but I recognize your name.
The amount of thought and effort that goes into each one of your videos is phenomenal. Truly inspiring. I've started looking into bonsais due to this channel, thank you for the quality content.
It's a great compliment for any bonsai artist to be told someone started the art because of their journey
That’s great to hear, and thank you!
I also started because of this channel. Thank you
Try Herons bonsai a true master and no creepy background music.just an old man with massive wealth of tree knowledge truly peaceful
@@DavidJones-ty1ht the background music is a vibe i find it so weird that you think it sounds creepy xD
This channel is a fine example of quality not quantity.
Always a treat to watch the videos!
And I was surprised when I saw Nigel subscribed my channel
Likewise Nigel, I think yours were the first bonsai videos I started watching on RUclips!
He loves us all ❤️
i look in the comments of every bonsai video for Nigel! :)
@@mattiecreates Thanks!
15 minutes in another world. In an oasis full of bonsai!
As always very professional, BUT above all very emotional, with an incredible amount of feeling and an unbelievable sense for the tree and the moment.
THANKS!
Thanks for watching Holger. A little bonsai oasis… now there’s an idea! 😍
DK books are the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeest!!
Also, it always astonishes me how people can do things like this to a plant and the plant is like, "Ok cool," whereas I forget to water something ONCE and it's like "Ok I guess I'll just die then."
The fact that the juniper in the book still taken care of and distinguished as the book tree is amazing. Should be even more emotional for you to see it. Great video as always.
It is and it was! There are quite a few from the book still at Greenwood
IKR ? And its so big lol
What book is it?
Nothing makes a hobby more enjoyable than sharing it with the family's next generation. Seeing it through their eyes brings back the wonder and excitement we can lose over time. Through our ancestral development we were definitely intended to have and raise children. It makes everything in life brighter and better.
I always feel like you are cutting too much and then you show us a masterpiece at the end every time.
No talking, no distractions, soooo relaxing. Thank you for an excellent video as always
It’s really nice to see the Winter Soldier keep himself busy with such a zen hobby
Absolutely amazing that you managed to get a photo of the same bonsai from the book 35 years later. Unreal. Just diving into this rabbit hole and your content is amazing. I rarely comment but had to say thank you for your videos, I enjoy them so much.
What is the name of the book? Thanks
In every single one of your videos I escape from reality for a while, they are simply stunning and engaging, great work once again!
Thanks Luís, I think that's how I feel when working on them
The Journey is clear for this one - Greatness! Seeing you with Corin from Greenwood Bonsai makes perfect since. Two great channels that are very enjoyable.
I saw your first Video a couple of month ago and I got hooked to the whole theme of Bonsai.
Watched your Videos over and over again and yesterday i finished wiring my first own Tree. :)
Thanks for introducing me into this hobby. Your editing and Tree Shaping skills are wonderful. Keep up the good work!
This is wonderful to hear. May it be a source of peace and joy for you too!
@@BonsaiReleaf thanks!
I don’t know if it would fit with the spirit of your channel, but I would love to see an update on this bonsai to see how it has matured since you originally posted this video. Actually, it would be nice to see video updates on all the fun size you have featured on your general.
I feel that it is a MUST..I have created some beauties, but over time just did not hold up after makeover..
Lovely video! And really enjoyed seeing your little bonsai helper!
These videos are the best surprise! They're rare to come out, but so worth the wait!!
You are Art, the harmony, the production itself. Thank you
Thank you!
I need a lifetime of your videos, thank you.
Your videos are so aesthetically pleasing. I can actually feel how much thought and heart you put into them, the bonsais, and your life
Thanks Elizabeth!
Thank you for the excellent video! Absolutely love the close ups, quality, and the short pauses with explanations and teaching points. Please continue to show your thought process.....really helps understanding.
Thanks for the feedback, I will do 👍🏼
I would have liked to see the work on the pot, but gorgeous work as always ! Few channels are legitimate to launch merch after 4 videos. But you definitely are, I hope everything works out for you. Keep it up !
Thanks Johann. I probably won't repot until 2023 but will try to film it for an update
your videos made me understand the artistry in bonsai
I was just on your channel today wondering when you will be back 🙏
After watching your videos over and over again I can only say thank you. you transmit peace, tranquility and a quality that we are losing: patience. I'm already waiting for the next video to enjoy your work. Olé sensei! 👏
Not even done with this third video… please keep up the very hard work. These are THE BEST bonsai progression videos- before, during, and after
Thanks, will do!
I like to watch these videos, because there is not much talking. It’s very relaxing. I love his drawings and how knowledgeable he is about bonsais. But one of the things I enjoy the most is how he interacts with his little boy and how much patience he has answering all his questions and encouraging him to get involve. That is a lovely thing to see.
Nice to see a 'simple' first transformation. Great production as always :) do you plan to showcase some broadleaf Bonsai as well per chance?
Thanks Bonsaifly. I have many on the go but it’s usually a case of building rather than subtracting so they’re taking a bit longer. Much less suited to ‘instant’ bonsai!
@@BonsaiReleaf for sure! I‘d be curious as to how you approach broadleaf trees though - you’ve definitely proven you’re good at conifers, I can only imagine you have some interesting ideas for broadleaf trees too.
The pure quality of these videos is staggering
What a treat to see a new video from you my man. Your videos are as artistically put together as your craft, thanks so much for sharing
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
I love how these videos are tutorials in a way as well. I learn a lot.
I like that the video focusses on the details of the tree. Real and alive.
The videos, the bonsai trees, the editing, the presentation, the craftsmanship, everything is top notch in this channel. Loved these videos. 👌
I normally fast forward thru RUclips videos but this channel all the videos I watch from start to finish in awe. I love this channel. This and few Christian channels are what I have subscribed to. Keep making amazing contents. I wish I had an ounce of knowledge you have in creating these masterpieces. Lots of support from USA
I often find myself coming back to your videos, even though I have already watched them they are endlessly relaxing. One day, when I'm more settled, I want to help create a Bonsai of my own, a team effort between myself and the tree.
This is by far the best channel on RUclips. Im glad to see an other upload and i will wait patiently for the next one. This is an awesome journey! Greetings Luuk from the Netherlands.
Greetings Luuk, from a fellow Dutchman. Albeit only a 1/8 part 😆 I hope to visit someday!
Speechless… every minute waiting for a new video of yours is worthy. Thank you!
Watching an artman doing his work
Breathtaking as always!
My favorite parts on your videos is watching the stop motion modifications of the branches, etc. So cool!!
Saving this one for tonight right before I go to bed, awesome!!
Really great video.I’m assuming you have worked on lots of bonsai trees before RUclips it would be really cool if you did a tour type thing where you show your whole collection
It's hard to even walk between them in my tiny garden at the moment, but hopefully one day!
I’ve never really been interested by Bonsai trees but this video was satisfying and I ended up just watching all of it
Such a staggering transformation. UNBELIEVABLE!
Oh it's time!!
Awesome, now this is what we all need! This is good for the soul.
Didn’t mind waiting this long !
Your videos are always amazing! Thanks you
Whoa!! My heart was in my mouth the whole time.
I've always been terrified of handling my plants too much as I was sure I'd permanently traumatise the poor things.
I'm beginning to understand that once they're handled gently (and with love and intelligence), it's okay.
Thank you.🙂
Love the 'more doing' approach to bonsai and this is a wonderful example!
Thanks for uploading a video again. They are great. Greetings from Spain. 🍀👋🏻
The quality of your vids is outstanding... so pro! Not only was this a joy to watch, but it gave me the perfect look for a 'problem' chinese juniper I have... so thank you for that! 😁 AND you taught me something too... Top Notch buddy... top notch indeed 😁👍🏼
Glad to hear it Justin. I love the challenge of ‘problem’ trees - I have a few myself!
Love the time-lapse of the wiring and shaping of the smaller branches ... really lovely. Thank you.
Nicely presented. I like the way you use a few tools & that some are right out of anyone’s tool box and not special, expensive tools. Thanks.
I have bonsai tools but actually prefer normal garden shears and trimmers
It’s crazy how fast 15 minutes can pass by, I hope the next 6 months do too, so I can enjoy your next video 😄
Haha. I’ll try to make it much less!
@@BonsaiReleaf No pressure from anybody, at least I hope so. Take all the time in the world for those art pieces! Thank you for all the love and hours you put in!
Thank you for the gracious gift of your time and the journey afforded to us by observing your deliberate intention applied to the transformation of this juniper. It is only surpassed by the interaction between you and your son. God bless.
You and Arkefthos bonsai are on a league of your own right now whit this high quality easy videos of great craftsmanship. A beautifull display of great skills.
Great to see your with the bear bonsai expert. He is such a gentle giant.
Its ever a great pleasure to watch such a nice video. I look forward to more.
Thanks Anne
Yay! You're back with another wonderful video!
The tree making video is so beautiful, thank you for letting me learn
Botanically speaking tomatoes are berries :p
Haha I love this. He’s always teaching me things!
😄
It's amazing how much of a difference it made when you bent all the small sprigs (mini-branches?) so they were sloping downwards instead of upwards. Instantly made it look recognisably like something out of an ancient Chinese artwork
I appreciate the crossover with Greenwood Bonsai
I think we need more of your artwork/videos. And your kid is so cute.
When kygo stopped producing music and decided to sell bonsai...
That was one of my first bonsai books when i was a kid!
What is the name of the book? Thanks
The one channel on RUclips I have notifications turned on for.
Some of the best work I have seen. WOW!!!
yei ya
I love that side shoot on the left side next to the lightning strike
Thank you for guiding step by step for a first timer like me
Thank you, and beautiful work
Ok you got me, wasn't sure at the start but I'm loving it!😊
4:10 the cutting of the branches was placed perfectly on the beat
Yet another of your videos that inspires me to create!! I love the care and attention that you put into every cut, every bend, and every video!!
Patience is a gift you have
Out of nowhere every time he wins my heart ❤️
I bought that same book when I was 14 or 15. I would study it religiously. Still sits in my bookshelf.
Your video was recommended despite me never looking at Bonsai. I must say your 4 videos put all the other bonsai channels that I've seen since to shame.
Awesome tree work and even better video production
I have the same book its always near my bed ! love that book
This video has loud and loud of conceptual design, stetic sensibility, respect to the nature, calm, humanity and knowledge about the bonsai trees. Congratulation from a Sevillian amateur.
I love how rare this videos are, it made it an experience to watch one the first time.
Humans are astonishing, and you are one of the beautiful soul, your content gives peace and good vibes, arigatou.
Always a pleasure when one of your videos pop up. Like a nice reminder to slow down in life. Thank you for sharing this new journey with us.
Very intriguing, love his patience and his art of details.
Yay! but I didn't get a notification by youtube, I looked this channel up because it felt like it was time, only off by 10 days
In my part of the world, junipers grow wild just like this. The harsh conditions, prevailing winds, and lack of rainfall keep them small, and every single one of them looks like they have centuries worth of stories to tell.
Stunning! I’ve never been more captivated by a RUclips video scared I will miss some detail! I could watch this guy for hours. Wish I had his patience and skill of course!
When we needed him the most he came back! yesssss
Another high quality video..... thank you for your time, patience and expertise in creating these fabulous pieces. I look forward to the next release 👍🎬👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching Ian, and for the kind words 🙏🏼
These videos take so long to shoot and edit. Much like the process of Bonsai. But if you take your time to do every step perfectly you end up with a perfect product. These videos are just gold.
honestly If i need to Learn about Bonsais this is the guy. If you need to destress these videos are the ones. And Lastly Keep up the great work.
Your videos came to my feed this morning on my spare time waiting for a work contract signing. I love your work and subscribe you right after it
This is hands down the best video I have seen to describe the steps in the creation of a bonsai.
Awesome video once again! Ive got my blaauws growing and now just ruminating on their designs
Ah the ruminating is the most time consuming part 😅
Best part of week when I see a new video post! 🙌
These videos have become my favorite unintended ASMR videos I watch them any time I need a mental break from the day. My peace in the storm of life. Thank you.
