Jesus. Back 20 years ago, I was there when a small contingent of us were identifying parts of the uniform and trying to find the right calculator board for the gizmo, among other parts. I remember when we were trying to find a different civvie flightsuit than those craptastic Rothco suits we were stuck with for years. After the Tru-Specs came out, we started calling the Rothco suits "piss yellow" because of how bad the dye job was on em. It's just hilarious watching this video and seeing all the crap we worked hard to ID over that time so easily lined up and presented. I also would like to state that I now feel old...
I'll start with the "feeling old". I've been trooping since 1990. think about that. I was also friends with Norm Gagnon; this is the guy who named the parts of the proton pack and coined the phrase "ghostheads". We had packs with lights; ghost traps that opened and closed...with coaxial cables. Even a slime blower. we had flight suits; name badges; gloves;belts;boots...but you get the idea. Today I am almost ready for Frozen Empire. Can't wear the suit/pack anymore...but I'm still trooping w/ as much OG gear as I can. Not bad for 60.🙃
Love the channel, been binging ever since i found it. Would love to see an episode devoted Stargate SG1 and all the different uniforms, camos and gear they used for that show.
@@UniformHistory Ouu, can't wait. Thanks for these great videos. It was always odd to me seeing the Canadian Elcan scope being used in the show until i found out it was filmed here.
I was thinking about the costumes of Ghostbuster while playing Phasmophobia last night. And here we are freshly served video of the movie. Thanks a lot!!!
I finished my ghostbusters complete outfit about 60 days before this video was uploaded. Man it would have been nice to have all this info compressed into the video you have so thoughtfully made for fans. Thank you for the hard work, the great info, and links to parts. I really appreciate it.
fun fact the tube is actually meant to keep you from visibly peeing yourself as stated by the crew themselves in the ultimate visual history book for the 30th anniversary the idea is that seeing ghosts and getting attacked by them causes you to pee yourself so that tube allows you to relieve yourself when scared without having the visible stain on your crotch region
A friend of mine worked on several movies making props and talked about how people go crazy trying to get the correct warning stickers and pieces when he was told “Get something and slap it on, make it look cool”
The Prop Replica Forum, or PRF, is for these exact people. It's insane, the level of attention people put into their work when recreating these things.
Egon actually does hang the neutrona wand from the right front fob on his belt. You can see it hanging there when he scans the hotel guest with the PKE meter.
This is super helpful. My son wants us to go out as ghostbusters on Halloween. I already have the patches and a jump suit. The little touches are nice to flesh it out. Thanks
FYI, In the 70s and 80s Corcoran jump boots were expensive. And a lot of soldiers purchased H&H jump boots by cove shoe. They were called "the poor mans jump boots"! Hahaha Cove did produce an H&H jump boot with a black zipper in the 80s also. But the movie featured Carolina zipper boots Cheers
Corcoran was owned by acme back then and built in stoughton Mass still. The boots in the Ghostbusters 1984 movie were built by Carolina owned by Cove shoe. They built jump boots, plain toe combat boots and the side zip combat boots with cap toe. Saw these in the 1970's through the early 80's as being promoted as made with elk leather. Yup elk leather because it was tougher than cowhide and spit shined better? Don't know it that was true? But I saw them advertised in the back of SOF magazine and Gung-ho magazine. Another company made an identical boot with a black rough out tongue and no padded insole called Hazen. I bought the Carolinas while in delayed entry in 83' had to keep putting Zoe's black leather dye on the zippers Lol. After I ets'd in 88 I bought an identical set at a surplus store for police work. Seems like a hundred years ago now but I stumbled into an original set years ago at a shoe store that was closing down. Still wear them today. Great boots for the price then. Sorry had to put my in put in here because as far as this old paratrooper knows Corcoran(acme) never put out a zippered jump boot in the early 80's. That was a custom job if you wanted them. Love the work you all do, Ive worn most of the uniforms you've went over for the U.S. Army/USMC. From pickle suits, erdl RDF, choc chips(Sinai) to jungles to woodland. Cheers
Haslab have got the PKE Meter and Ghost Trap available to back now (until 12th December, so if you want one, GET BACKING NOW!) called the "Two in a Box" combo.
Most likely a different paratrooper boot. Many did have zippers back then. The Cocoran boot have 12 eyelets. GB movie boots are 11 eylelets. Carolina boots are 11 eyelets and have side zippers. Also the soles are flat.
Another informative and awesome video! But when are you going to get around to finishing up the major American Patterns with WWII Frogskin? Certainly there are so many patterns, items, uniforms of interest in history but I mean it just seems to make sense to do one you've already alluded to before, the first real mass produced American pattern.
I had wondered since 1989 what that yellow gizmo on the Ghostbusters pistol belts in Ghostbusters II was. Thanks to the Ghostbusters fan community I found out. Lots of fans have used them in their cosplay and several fans even 3D print and sell replicas as well if you're on a budget like I am. Finally got a complete uniform to go with my Spirit Halloween Proton Pack last year. Pack just needs a few changes, and it is good to go.
I thought I read somewhere the boots were Carolina Side Zip Jump Boots. These differ from Corcoran boots in the toe cap, Carolina boots don't have the row of holes between the stitching. Semantics I guess and the difference is minute....
They were Carolinas owned by cove shoe. Corcoran was owned by acme boot and still built in the original factory stoughton mass. They never produced a zipper paratrooper boot back then. Just an old paratroopers 2 cents
@@johnsteele2986 yes sir..... My original pair my older brother bought me after graduating airborne school in 84. Had them resoled 3 times and wore them until 2007 when the leather finally gave way and upper stitching failed hahaha. The Carolina zipper boots were comfy and shined up nice. @@johnsteele2986 Corcoran quality slipped when Cove shoe out of martinsburg Pennsylvania bought out acme boot which owned the Corcoran name brand in the late 1990s. Those were Carolina zipper boots sold through the 70s and into the 90s. You can still find them on ebay and Facebook mkt place for decent $ the soles wont crack. I still own an 80s pair that I wear a lot. Picked them up 15 years ago when a shoe store closed and they brought out the goodies from the basement. Remarkably great shape. The 70s-80s and early 90s versions still had a thick leather mid sole which was dropped in favor of just the neoprene outsold maxitred and more internal cushioning. Cheers
I put together a really accurate Bickle costume nine years ago. Most of the stuff is pretty easy to come by, but it took me a while to find the right belt buckle.
